How To Cut Your Curly Hair Yourself | Beauty At Home

I need your help. I need your help so bad right now, because in quarantine my hair has grown out to like a bunch of awkward lengths and i'm not really sure how to fix it. So i was hoping - maybe you could talk me through an at-home dry cut today. I'M so so excited to be able to help you today. So the step before we even get into padding it would be sectioning for sectioning. I have my favorite clips. They call alligator clips they're, huge yeah and the reason i like this one because they bend and move and they flexible. So when you cut curly hair, you shouldn't stretch the curls or create any mark or any line on the medication that won't allow you to see the shape later on and, of course, a pair of shears. Yes, what you're gon na do you're gon na follow with the end of that part on the top of the head and you're just gon na go ahead and create a vertical, so middle part all the way down. Yes, all the way down just go ahead and make a vertical line to the top of your ear vertical line like from here to here. Yes, okay, let me see perfect, looks good yes, so trying to mimic the same thing to the other side. So now what we're going to do behind that line, the goings from the center of the hair to the ears we're going to create another line, so it's going to be challenging and it's going to be one inch wide. Oh, if you tuck home, lift the head you're gon na end it out having an uneven line so trying to just be consistent when your movement, all the way to you, meet your ear, don't let it get out of your head, because that would give you. I don't even cricket line, it's not bad, but it's a little cricket. I cannot get these perfect. It'S really hard. I thought that this was gon na, be so easy and i was so wrong. How does this look like, though? It looks better? Okay, you have to let go the halo because we're gon na start cutting the header now and you never never. On the whole haircut you're gon na use tension. Tension means that you're not gon na make it too hard yeah, just let it let it go and soft because remember the curls have movement and you have to let them be free. Does that length look good and now i just start snipping just cut it and then we're gon na adjust that and fix it. What angle should i be cutting in okay, so you're doing it a finger forward, so you're gon na cut like this now we're going to start patting in an angle with the section stick out of the head right, so the top one was like this. That means the one that the follow goes like this. They want the followers like this, so we follow the halo, so that's how we're creating a round shape. So this is the halo here right yeah. I have my guide so when i'm sectioning i'm grabbing her like this, not like that not like that, you have to straighten it straight break it up. You got it creating a square sections. You know what i think in order for you to cut better, you have to open the chairs. I think what is happening you cut it like this. Look open, close and yes just be slower when you do it become afraid that you cut your knuckles. So i want you to move the layers. This is what i do. What i want to see the movement look at what i'm doing on my head, so i want this layer to follow this one to follow this one to follow this one. So this is the way you have to touch and manipulate if i feel that it's a curl that is off so what i'm going to do, i'm going to cut it. This is how i do it. That makes sense. So it's pretty obvious that the sectioning took me about a million years to get the hang of and we did have to stop and come back another day to finish filming. Yes, i was walking around with a mullet for a couple days, but it's fine back to the video okay, so you're gon na divide the back in four okay, so that means you're gon na start from the center top of the head and you're gon na drop. Like a vertical line, all the way to your neck, okay, that means two right and right side: you're gon na divide it in half left side; you're gon na divide it in half. So that means you're gon na now, having one two three and four and now you're gon na get a whole section and you're gon na basically put it all the way to 90 degrees right here, and i see my guide right here. Yes, so now, when you go to 90, you have to make sure that you don't cut your guide, of course, and what you're going to do you're going to cut the rest to the guy, so basically we're taking off the whole little bush, and you see how You have a straight line down the middle, bring left side forward right side forward to see the balance. Okay put it just before it. Yes, yeah right there in front of your shoulder. This one still feels a little long. I don't think you have to cut all of that, but definitely some of that half of that amount. I see the longer pieces, you can see it right yeah. You can tell perfect. So now you have to open the crowns. So you basically gon na, like cross check what you said and you're gon na individually personalize that so now that you're, looking at your hair, do you see some curls that are really long right there yeah they are from the shape yeah! That'S what we need to cut okay. I think this actually came out pretty good. I love how much volume we have now now i have to work with with all that hair cut off it's so much better.

Ramona Charles: Girl, you are brave cutting your own hair. You did a great job. Your curls are poppin'.

SugarfreeCandy: This was actually incredibly useful and helpful!

laPatti: I think this video should have more likes! You did a great job doing it on your own hair. Maybe curly hair are more forgiving than straight hair, but still, to do the back so well is not a easy task. Well done!!

Sami Sparkle: I did the unicorn/ diy diva cut & didn’t like how it turned out. Some layering but not enough shape. I watched this video on repeat for a hour & said okay let’s get to it! When I said I’m so thankful for y’all posting this!!! My hair came out beautifully cut!!!

C L: I have now used this video twice! Thank you so much I desperately needed good advice and my hair looks amazing!

Danah Cameron: I followed this method and ended up with a great cut. Volume up! Thanks for sharing.

Iamcheenyblack: Thanks for his video. Great job on the cut! It did help a lot but I feel the beginning of the video was much clearer than the middle and ending. The use of the diagrams and actual mannequin head made it so easy to follow. Makes me sad because as I am clear on how to cut the middle but not the front and the back. Hope that this video can be updated to include more detail for us DIYers. Thanks again!

Tiffany Navarro: I love this video! It's so helpful! I am using it to cut my bf's curly hair. Thank you!

Sailor Mars: I wish i could have that hairstylist here in Barcelona, i really really need somebody here that understand afro curly hair, how to cut it, how to color our type of hair, here is very difficult, we have some african hair salon they are amazing doing braids, but not how to really take care and maintain of natural hair , we have dominican hair salon, they are good doing relaxers but they don't know nothing about natural hair, and of course european hair salon, spanish people don't have afro hair so they don't know nothing about it . There were on time i went to a Marco Aldany hair salon, they are supposed to be expert in all type of hair, i went for a haircut, and let me tell you, the person who was supposed to attend me was 40 minutes walking around asking to his colleagues because de didn't how to start with my hair, He tried to convince me to do a big chop and color my hair in silver color. That was very disappointing.
