This is a Hair Tutorial on How to do a Long Layered Haircut on Curly Hair. Then I twirled the hair in spiral curls and diffused it dry.

Hi, I'm Timmy and I'm going to be doing a long, layered haircut and naturally curly wavy here, so we're just going to be cutting about this much off and putting some layers in there. Okay. First I'm going to cut her length when it dries it curls out. Quite a bit, so you don't want to use a lot of tension. You want to just comb very softly, meaning tension. You don't want to do a lot of pulling as you're combing it down. You don't want to pull it. You just want to comb it nicely down sort of let the natural wave stay in there. You can sort of see within her hair that there's like a wave coming down and cutting combs, there's a thinner, toothed part and a thicker toothed part. You want to cut with a thicker toothed part, so you don't use too much tension, because the thinner part will pull more now, for her sides run down and sort of push it back like this and just a little bit reached, and when I do the front Section here I'm going to do this part. I have to turn her head because of her shoulder and I want it leaning against the shoulder when I'm cutting I'm going to comb real soft, and I see, if there's anything left here, I'm just going to cut off that little corner right there and we do The same thing: on the other side, now I sectioned out my rounds. That'S where the hair starts rounding down. I got the top section out of the way I'm going to do this like a longer shag. I'M just going to take this middle section right like this comb it out and again, because it's curly, I don't want to use a lot of tension. I want to comb it very softly. I'M going to take out this middle section like this, and now I'm going to turn sideways. You can see the way I'm cutting it make sure her chin is level with the floor. I'M going to pull all this up like this, like this, I'm going to follow that middle section keep pulling everything off that reaches instead of pulling it up like this straight I'm actually, by pulling it up this way, I'm getting more layering in the bottom section here. I'M going to take a little bit of this middle section in a little bit to the right of it. So I have my guy I'm using the middle section as my guide and then I'm pulling out another thin section, all the way down. I'M going to pull that up too, but I'm just going to follow my previous guide. You can see if you could see my guide, underneath I'm just going to follow that guide with this next section, I'm going to continue that into here, as I'm going closer to the ear I'm over directing this a little bit, I'm over directing it up and back To compensate for the concave area of the ear - and it's always better to over direct towards the front too, so it doesn't get shorter in the front than the back now. This next section this one by the ear - I'm not just over, directing it back, but I'm also directing it off. You can see my guide underneath okay for her sides, I'm going to pull everything up the same way, I'm going to leave this bottom section out. Maybe do a couple inches in the bottom just so this doesn't get any shorter and I'll just sort of remember to just leave it out. As I go, I'm going to use the guide from the back of the ear and sort of pull it forward. So you can see the guide underneath it's going to follow that throughout the middle I'm going to over direct this section to go back because of the hairline here, you always want to direct it back to compensate for the loss of hair right here. So if you want to keep your mind solid in the bottom, always directed back now for this taps, I'm going to do the same concept as I did in the back, where I took a line in the middle now, I'm going to take a line in the Middle of the top, I'm going to sort of section this out on each side, I'm going to take a little piece from the crown area to use as my guide. So I'm taking a piece from back here to use as my guide and I sectioned out a thin section in the middle and now I'm going to pull all that off. And you can see the guy from before. I'M going to follow that all the way through to the front all the way through to the very front of her main area. Now I'm going to use that guide and I can start on this side or I can start in the front. But basically I'm going to use this guide and I'm going to cut it across ways. And now I'm going to take this middle guide and I made and cut that now I'm going to connect the top to the sides, make sure that's all the same and connecting the way I'm going to do. That is I'm going to part it down the middle. Now I'm going to check everything and connect everything together. Now, I'm just going to go through it all around her head and I want to comb softly and bring it all the way around. I mean there's just a little bit left that needs to be connected or keep the word salad just going to keep filing this through all the way around. I'M just going to connect that together now for the front section over here again, I want to sort of calm it down with a larger section of the comb, and I just want to push it up. You know let the natural wave come back in there, we're just going to sort of round this around her face, we're going to face frame it for her a little bit under her chin, because once it dries it's going to bounce up, probably around even like her Mouth area, you really don't want to cut this front section too much either you can sort of bring it around from the back too. If you like to connect it, but you want to be careful not to cut off your corners. I used curls rack by TG. I used to score to that and I used a squirt of eye on Auntie fruits. We'Re just going to do sporadic twists throughout here and then I'm going to diffuse it. It makes the curl nicer. It doesn't take long, it's real quick, you can do it yourself. Pretty easily too, but I just take section at a time - and I twirl it around my finger like this - it just takes a second. You can take big sections, you can take small sections, but it gives a real nice curl. You don't have to do every little section. If you don't have the time you know just sporadically, do it throughout it just kind of gives it a little something when you're blow-drying it I'm going to follow this all the way through. This is a diffuser. You can pick it up really at almost any store. It goes right on your dryer like this and I'm going to diffuse her whole hat. Diffusing is almost mandatory instead of blow-drying. If you try to blow-dry it, it's going to get big and it's going to get frizzy. This does exactly what it says it diffuses it you might want to have your client put their head back or, if you're doing it yourself put your head upside down even to get the body out of the crown. Okay, here are the results, came out nice and pretty. You can see the layers in here still on the bottom like she wanted and that's it.

Deborah Walker: One of the most clearly explained videos on here; thank you! So many hair 'tutorial' vids are just "look at me, I'm amazing" exercises. I've picked up so much in the first few minutes re curly hair. Thank you

aventurasweetg: Thank you so much for this video, I literally cut my own hair right now following you step by step. I do have hair that is curlier than you client but I cut little by little just following my guides, and I love it! Thank you so much!

AmiYuy: Thank you for this. We've been trimming my husband's hair for several months now, but hadn't tried attacking my fine, wavy/curly, frizzy mess until I came across this video. He did it for me yesterday and it turned out great! Your instructions were very easy to understand and follow.

jelyfisher: Thanks! Just gave me daughter a *nice* (compared to cutting without guidance like I used to do) haircut with your help!

Song Mozart: Excellent cut. I want to get long layers cut into mine because I want to stop fighting my curls and make the most of them.  I get so many compliments on my curly hair, too. It's not kinky curly...it's more like the girl's hair above, except I'm a brunette. :) Thank you for the great video!

dogzzz2002: Thank you so much for showing curly hair! I wish I knew about the techniques you used here when I was a teen with long frizzy hair (80s). I love curly hair and have now been using your techniques to get the curls to hold and remain tamed (okay, after a day of me running my hands through my hair it's disheveled but not flat and frizzy! Your video covered all my questions and your client looked great when she was done.

Sun Sun TV: im a hair stylist and i love your work. your so thorough and precise. p.s. i tried the twisting method and it makes the curl look so polished.

pnotchey: Thank you so, so much for posting and sharing this video! I've been searching for one with step by step instructions and all others I found were nowhere near as precise and as detailed as yours. My four year old daughter has long curly hair and by following your video, I was finally able to give her the haircut I wanted this morning. I've trimmed her hair prior to this but never felt confident enough to actually give her proper layers. Her hair is gorgeous, as is she! ;) Thanks again!

Dannielle Delagarza: Great job Tammy! Love this twisting method!

nicraig123: your video was so helpful! I watched it 2 times just before I cut my 6 1/2 year old daughters' hair and it turned out the BEST cut I ever did on her! I am a pet groomer who also has always cut my husbands' hair and my children's and, on the odd time, my own!

Joyce Maddeaux: This is a great training video! I am not a professional, but I cut my husbands' and several of his buddies hair with clippers. When his friend with long curly hair asked for a hair cut I agreed with confidence even though I had no idea how. I watched this video once and then played it while I cut my friends long curly locks, stopping it a few times while I cut away. His hair came out great! It looks like a professional cut. Thank you for sharing your expertise!!!

Human Being: the end results are absolutely gorg! spotless! i wish i knew some one who could cut my hair like that and i mean exactly like this

Cynthia Argueta: I love all ur tutorials!! I'm a student at a cosmetology school and ur videos have helped me 2 understand cutting hair so much....u simplify it beautifully and I appreciate how u explain as u go...Ide love 2 see more videos on cutting...thanx 4 what u do and keep on ")

Pip Addis: This is awesome! Thanks so much for doing this layered cut! My hair is only slightly wavy, so can I do this exact cut on my hair anyways? Will I need to fan out the layers since my hair is finer once it is dry to make them blend better?

Sonia Baron: Just what I have been looking for. Thank you so much!!

zeal k: Tammy, You are awesome hair stylist. Amazing job!

Dotlich Duo: Super cute ;) nice to see a stylist keep in mind the recoil her curls are going to have once dry

Junior17: Wow amazing color and texture. Decent job too.

Anna Campos: Thank you sooo much for this tutoral I have a hard time with this hair cut , I am in cosmo school right now and I have a hard time with long culy hair , I am afraid of cutting curly and wavy hair . this tutoral has helped me A LOT .. thanks

DJ lobo: mariva81 explained my cut exactly. It's like my layers are all exterior and the interior is blunt and now it's taking on the mushroom. I wish more hairstylist would educate themselves on cutting wavy hair

spaceanduniverse27: @favatat Thanks for your quick response! Does Walmart sell Karaton Protein treatments or does only salons carry that product? If salons only carry it will the hair salon in the Walmart usually carry that and what price range do they usually run and how big are the bottles? Thanks Favat! I really appreciate your quick response and your help!!

Delaney Allan: This is absolutely amazing!

spaceanduniverse27: Favatat, great job! I'm not a stylist, I just have a question. My hair is long and naturally curly (small to medium curls & very frizz prone). I used to blow dry my hair straight, but now I just either clip up my hair up in a banana clip until dry after I wash my hair to help tame down my frizz to try to bring out my curls more OR I'll braid my hair. Do you think that long whispy layers would be a good look??? I'm wanting hair like mszjackiechu here on youtube.Type her name to see her hair.

Lilly English: Loved it, thanks!

Evelyn Campbell Curtis: I'm not a cosmetologist, but I do cut my children's hair. One daughter has very curly hair, and it has changed a bit since she has gotten older. I'm just looking for ways to make her daily routine simpler, and still have her beautiful curls looking great! This was a great video... and very informative! I think I'll give it a whirl!

Emma: I wish the hairdressers in my town had the knowledge you have! I have very thick, wavy hair and every time I walk into a hairdressers they look a bit shocked/scared. I think they only know how to cut straight hair!

Alicia Sánchez: Excellent!!!!! Beautiful haircut!

mariahmerrymary: 1:45 - "I'm going to do this like a longer shag..." You wouldn't believe how many hair stylists I've encountered who don't know what a shag is at all, much less a long shag.  I feel ancient when I ask and they give me that blank look.  I am SO happy to hear you say "longer shag" because you're young and it proves it's not an age thing.  (Incidentally, I'm 50, I'm not quite geriatric yet. ;D)

eighthcylinder: Very good video and the hair.....I would love to have lock like that! :)

mrs_music_teach: Thanks for this- I have to do a curly cut tonight and have only been shown to point cut it. I prefer blunt cuts:-) nice work!

blazeofsolitude: I wish you were an instructor at my college, they don't explain things anywhere near as well as you do. Thanks for the curly hair tips!

roberto zamboni: You are an amazing professional. Thank you.

niiniimiinii: your work is amazing ! !! if you already have layers but they're awful, and my length separates from the layers (it's been done so badly! and the V shape is too enhanced) can i still do this haircut? :(

sammy eaglz: beautiful.i wish i could have curly hair but my hair is too long and straight to hold a curl :( ty for the video.

Missy Graves-Baeseman: I have very curly hair and can never find someone to cut it right. Next time I am going to show them this video. An even better idea would be to have you cut my hair :)

Ria Romano: Would it be possible for me to do this on myself? I don't really trust anyone I know to be good at this or accurate.

Christy Love Turner: My hair is Natural Curly Very long Piggy back style curls...Every time I've been to get it cut ..they screw up cut it to short cause it shrinks..I need this tut badly..I'm scared though...Your pulling hair out toward the back instead of up..Can this be done by one person..me? With no help? Inbox me plz, xoxo

mikisarah1975: what about the left side you don"t cut

Vane Leo: Where is your salon ? Great job :)

Holly Anderson: I've been getting layers for years and I've gotten to where I hate it I want my hair one length because as my hair gets to a certain length my ends look stringy and not as thick if it was the same length I think my ends would be thicker, my hair is curly anyone think curly hair without layers would look OK ? I'm afraid of getting the triangle affect and I'm not young like I use to be but at 39 I still want long hair I'm growing it 2 inches past my breast I'll go longer if it still looks good after I get there I've got about 7 inches to go, any suggestions ? its very thick curly and wavy and kinky Lol its a little bit of everything..
