Hi guys welcome back in today's video. I will be going in depth on what it's really like, being an independent hairstylist and no matter where you are in your career, whether you're, assisting whether you just had gotten out of beauty school or whether you're working in a corporate salon currently being independent, has changed. The game for me personally, i also want to mention that i became independent at 20 years old and i'm 22 currently. So, if i can do it, you can too so what is being an independent stylist, it's basically someone who runs their own business. You are your own boss, but with that comes a lot more responsibility that i will be going over in today's video just to see if you, if this is something for you, you know if you're a right fit for it or if you'd rather just work in A corporate salon and let them handle business that is okay. You will be renting out a station at a salon, monthly and depending where you live, the price will be different. I live in virginia beach and i rent out two stations. I pay 1200 a month for the two stations here in virginia beach, so i'm going to tell you guys some of the things that i have to do yearly. You have to renew your business license every year, which mine is 300. You have to renew your business insurance every year and you have to renew your cosmetology license, which is every two years it used to be seventy five dollars, but ever since covid they rose it to 90 dollars. That'S a lot, so you have to do that yearly before becoming independent. You want to make sure you have a steady flow of clientele. You have to keep track of your inventory, which i do inventory every two weeks um and then you also have to buy all your products, so toners, bleach, foils, developer, retail, um back bar, like shampoos and post treatments and um everything you are in charge of everything You are in full control over your schedule, which is nice um. I like gasps for a second but - and you also are in charge of the price that you charge so highly, recommend finding a good tax accountant, because you will be doing taxes and it's a lot of work as a hair, stylist and taxes. There'S a lot of things that are involved in that so hire a tax accountant. I meet up with him like three times a year and i pay quarterly taxes so pretty much every two months i have to pick up a thousand dollars for taxes. So again you make a lot of money as a hair. Stylist, you make 100, but you give out so much so keep that in mind and, however, big or creative you are. You know you have to kind of pay the price for that. Sadly, as a creative as an independent hair stylist, you have the freedom to do whatever to be whoever you want. Whoever you are, we are in a million dollar industry. You have the freedom to chase. After so many opportunities, so if you're someone who likes to follow your own rules or make up your own rules - and you like to break the rules, this industry is for you girl. I also had to open up a business bank account when clients check out all the money goes straight to my card with that business card. I use it for anything about hair, so at the end of the year, when taxes roll around everything is there and it makes it so much easier being organized is extremely important when handling business. I also highly recommend you finding a good mentor to kind of walk. You through the process of starting up your business because it is so much work. I had to do everything in two weeks, which is kind of insane, and it's a very long process. You have to go to court. You have to just go through a lot of paperwork and you also have to buy all of your stuff before starting. I spent five thousand dollars on products before becoming independent. Now i'm not saying go crazy, like i did, i'm not saying it's impossible to just you know drop, maybe a couple hundred dollars on products and then you know start your business because you can totally do that. But me i like to go big or go home. So i will also insert some clips of videos that i currently still have on, so you guys can see a little bit of the time when i became my own boss and just like look how happy i was. I was like on cloud nine for a long time, yeah this hair industry. It can make you feel on top of the world it can make you feel so good. So if you are in the hair industry, congratulations because a lot of people cannot handle this pressure, but without further ado i'll insert the clips - and i hope you guys have a blessed day. Hopefully, you'll become an independent stylist, soon believe in yourself work hard, and i promise you got this so today's the day where i move in the salon and i'm really excited because i've planned and prepared for this for three weeks now and it's a lot of work. But i did it so i have all my stuff here and i'm going to drag it to the salon, organize everything and you know, move in basically but yeah. So let's go it's september 14th. My notebook thing for inventory so we're just gon na. I was like decorating it yesterday or last night. These are like, on my toner day, two we're out here looking on business, and i just love these pants anyways. Let me fix myself, damn it, i'm testing out. If this is too high or not wait, stay here. Hello i'll show you guys my little barbicide. Is that just not me or what
