Hey guys welcome back to my channel, so I promised you a video on hair styling tips for alopecia, and this is it so before we get started. Just don't forget to subscribe to my channel and if you end up, like my video, give me a thumbs up, but here we go so. First of all, I wanted to say if you are going through this, you are not alone. There is a whole community of people out there that are going through the same thing. All you got to do is just reach out to them and talk about it, and it will make you feel a lot better and that's what I noticed when I posted my alopecia story that all these people commented and shared their story with me, which is so Honestly, if you were one of the people, is so meaningful. It touched me so much I just. I can't even express to you how much it meant to me to read your stories to know that I'm not alone and that other people are going through. The same thing or went through the same thing and came out the other side and they're just fine, and I don't think that people really understand what it is to lose your hair. Even though it's kind of like one of those things that you don't want to admit that you're, like really sad about because it is part of vanity, but you think about how expressive we are with our hair, how much we invest in terms of coloring it cutting It making it look certain way, so much of our identity is linked to our hair, so it is pretty devastating when you start to move it now, when you start to lose it, you don't want to touch it, you don't want to do anything to it. I completely understand like not wanting to even put a brush through it because you don't want to lose any more hair than you already have. So when I started going through it, I didn't want to touch it. I didn't do anything to it. It was like I was like 16 again, I hardly even like I didn't style it. I didn't. I didn't even want to wash it, but eventually, you know being in the public eye being on TV, doing YouTube videos sharing my Alexa Bickley. At some point, I had to learn how to deal with it, so I started to adapt my older teen to a newer way of styling my hair, and maybe my hair doesn't look as polished as it was before, and I can't do as much with it. But at least I can do enough to where I really enjoy my hair again. The first thing we're going to talk about is washing your hair, so this is a debate that a lot of people have as to whether you should wash it more often or you should wash it less. I heard people say that if you wash it more often it's better for your hair, because you're cleaning, your scalp and you're, getting rid of any of the old boils or dirt or anything that can clog your hair follicles, because when you clog your hair follicles, it's Kind of harder for new hairs to push through, but the flipside to that is that when you are losing your hair, the last thing you want to do is be in the shower and watch more of it just go down the drain. So what I would say to that is do whatever you're comfortable with for me when it started happening. I was only watching it once a week. I'Ve moved on to twice a week now, because I did notice that myself was getting a little itchy and my head just did not feel right. It just did not feel clean, so I've moved on to washing it twice a week now and don't wash with super super scalding hot water. I learned my lesson the hard way. The one day when I was just sort of fed up - and I just took a super hot shower - and I swear to god - I just had this clump in my hair like right there. It was all like just smaller shorter layers that had fallen out and just stayed right here and didn't come through all the way. So basically, what I had to do afterwards was pick out my hair strand by strand and after that I started taking cold showers, which I don't think it's such a great idea as well, because you want to encourage circulation in your head, so maybe like lukewarm, would Be the best way to go and because alopecia is so linked to stress. Another tip that I have for you guys is to press the music when you're, taking a shower. Just put your phone out there on the counter put on your playlist and have fun in the shower just dance around sing whatever it is that you can do to make yourself happy while you're doing something that is so incredibly stressful is going to make the situation. So much better and when you're in the shower and you're washing hair, you really want to massage your scalp. You want to spend a lot of time with charging your scalp. So what massaging your scalp does? Is it encourages circulation in your scalp, which is going to in turn help grow your hair, so anything we can do to grow? Our hair is in my book. Okay. Now, when it comes to drying your hair in the beginning, I was not even using a blow dryer on it. I stopped doing that completely because I was just so scared, but what I figure it out is that you can use a blow dryer. You just have to use this cool setting, so if you're looking for a hair dryer, this is the one that I use to GHD air. I really love it. A lot is so powerful, so you don't need to use it for very long and it has the cool setting. So you just use that I like to put my hair upside down and just blow dry, my hair with the cool setting, and it takes a little bit longer, obviously than the heat setting. But you don't want to use the heat setting when your hair is falling out. You don't want to use too any Hot Tools close to your scalp. So that's why the cool setting is really really important and just lightly with your fingers, just sort of fluff your hair dry and don't use a brush. Do not. I know you guys want to use a round brush, but you're just going to pull your hair out, and I know like a lot of people say: well, it's going to fall out eventually anyways, but, like anything, you can do to not encourage your hair to fall Out is the best way to go so do not use a brush with your hair. Just use your fingers and use the cool setting on the hairdryer and you are good to go so I'm going to link all the products down below for you guys. So if you're looking to purchase a new hair, dryer or any other tool, you'll know exactly what to use okay, so now for those of you that actually want to style your hair, if you have an event to go to or for filming something like me and You want to have a little bit of a style going. What I would encourage you to do is don't use a flatiron, because the Flatiron will plan to pull your hair down. Don'T use a curling iron because I'll clamp, you don't anything with a clamp. What you want to do is use a waving wand, so the one that I use is the GHD curve waving wand, it's great because it doesn't overheat, which is super super important. That'S what I really like about this waving wand is that it takes a second to heat up, and then it doesn't overheat. So you're not using super super hot heat on your hair and the great thing about waiting wands is all you do is wrap your hair gently around the barrel, hold it in place and let it go, and you have a curl so you're not pulling on your Hair at all, that's the great thing about waving laws is, you are not pulling your hair and I just really love GHD products, because they're just so well made - and my last and final tip is all about this guy right here. So if you are going to a party or something really big, something really tension - and you don't want any of your little ball flops to be showing you want to use a root, touch-up spray, that's what this guy is right over here. This is by L'Oreal. It covers it's meant to cover grades, but what you can do it has a little nozzle here. You can spray it, so you spray it onto your scalp and it just makes it look like you. Don'T have a bald patch, which is really cool, so I'll just show you guys and yeah look gone completely. It'S a magic, so you don't want to use these too often because you don't want to put too many things on your scalp that will clog your hair. Follicles because the idea is to let them breathe so that the new hair can come through, but if you're caught in a situation where you just do not want that showing this is your best friend right here. So those my hair styling tips for people that are suffering from alopecia or from hair loss. If you guys have any questions or any tips of your own, please let us know in the comments below and if you have any requests for future videos. Just let me know as well - and I will see you guys next week with another video thanks so much for watching guys. I hope this helped

Majestic_Mermaid919: I inherited alopecia from my mom so I’ve had it since I was little. I can’t put my hair up in a ponytail without feeling insecure about it, thank you for making this video!

Alessia Baglione: I love this video thank you. I’ve watched some of your videos and I learned a lot about this one. I’m a student studying - hairstylist and I just learned I have alopecia - female pattern. (I’m 25) going to be 26 in May. I could relate to all you have mentioned at the start of the video and it’s something I do not wish upon anyone to experience hair loss . Thank you for making me feel better that there is hope and I’m not alone

J Dawg: Hey! Thank you for the video. It gave me a lot of comfort as someone who has only recently experienced the effects of alopecia. I am still terrified.. at this point I am desperate to find hairstyles that cover the big bald patches at the back of my head. I am also super sad that I’m not really gonna be able to style my hair. I have naturally really curly hair and I use a straightener every day. That’s probably not good for my hair ik :/ do you have any suggestions as to what I can do? I gotta straighten my hair !!

local trash: You helped me so much! I have alopecia areata for about 9 years and I'm almost 14. I am always sad about it and stuff, but your video just made my day!! :))))

Megan Born: I absolutely am thankful for this video having alopecia is kinda a burden especially being a young lady who is under the pressure of society I struggle daily to cover mine baldness up and the days I do are when I feel the prettiest. Thank you for showing me helpful hair styles

Pineapple juice: I just started getting getting this since I had my hair in a high ponytail everyday and was putting pressure on it, this helped a lot thank you :)

Jessica Millslagle: This is super informative. I have dealt with alopecia since I was 22. I am 38. My alopecia is in the flair up form. I will just lose 30-40% more hair during a flair. It happens all over my head. Then it goes through a regrowth cycle... Thank you so much for addressing what it feels like during a flair. You know it will grow back eventually. Don't stress about it... what do you do in the mean time? It's so hard. You don't want to wash to often or style and pull the hair out... I'm here with you mama, you are beautiful. Thank you for the wonderful information.

Alli the CinnamonBun: (I know this is long but I had a lot to explain so). Two years ago when I was twelve, I had Alopecia and the hair was gone in the front underneath my side hair and on the back top of my head. It’s not just the Alopecia though that made me lose hair. I also have a picking disorder and I would constantly pick at my hair. (I never tell anyone that) I had curly hair when I was little and when I grew up more it turned out wavy, so the hair that is grew back in is curly. It’s really slow to catch up to my normal hair, frizzy, and just plain frustrating. I do ponytails and half up half down all the time and I am getting bored with them. I also wore a hat until my hair grew back in and now I still wear it most of the time because im so insecure. The hair in the front grew back and so did the ones underneath but the little hair spot on the back hasn’t caught up yet and I want that to be covered up. Also since it grew back in curly, everyone tells me I HAVE CURLY HAIR DEAL WITH IT and it’s frustrating because when they make me out water on it (which is when it gets super curly) the hair on top curls but the hair towards the bottom doesn’t and it looks so weird. I don’t mind curly hair on other people but I don’t like it on me. Please tell me some hairstyles that will help and so I can get the hair to grow back to the normal length and to get rid of my hat habit.

Maddie437: I’m 20, just lost all my hair because of Alopieca. I didn’t even know i had it until i was 18 but one thing i do know is nothing you do externally is gonna cause it. Stressing about when to shower and what setting to put your blow dryer on isn’t gonna help. Nothing got better for me until the day i shaved the few hairs i had left. Now my hair is GROWING! So fast and so thick. The only thing that’s really gonna help I believe is focusing on your mental health and staying stress free. Trying to hide it was only making things worse.

Elena Križnjak: I'm 13 and I had alopecia since I was 8 or 9 years old and I have like huge bald spot on the back of my head and this video helped my a lot.

Christina Miller: I had alopecia right in the middle of my head it was only a tiny spot then it grew a little bigger but then got smaller I’m so thankful for it growing back

Micah: I am 13 I got diagnosed with it when I was 12 I lost lots of hair but I kept myself positive and I hardly touch my hair and it helped a lot I started getting lots of treatment but keeping myself positive helped it grow back I had lots of big bald spots and my school forces me to tie up my hair and it did not help and I became very stressed bcs I did not want anyone to see my bald spots but I’m more confident now!!!!

Sumbel Syeda: Thanks soo much for this can you please do a complete hair care routine with all the hair products you use, hair treatments , hair cut and colour etc

Ayat78: I hope it's growing back, mine fell out quite a lot I had really thick and waist length hair, definitely my hair was part of my identity, I didn't want to wash my hair or brush it, every time I touched my hair it fell out was so stressful. I was give steroids and each time it grew back, I then stopped taking steroids and it still grew back. My dermatologist told me it doesn't matter what shampoo you use, but to be honest using Aveda Shampoo and conditioner changed everything, it stopped my hair from shedding, I don't know how or why but it stopped it literally over night. I also started using oils on my scalp, onion/garlic oil, Rosemary oil, hibiscus and Shea butter and I would massage my scalp as my scalp became so dry. I also did AIP for a year and still do not eat gluten, I reintroduced many foods very slowly, I have only just started eating cheese, but I'll never eat gluten again. But really for me the Aveda shampoo helped I used the scalp benefits and also the one for damaged hair it helped me so much. I have had more patches but they grow back on their own. I also stopped all vitamins and just take probiotics which are gluten free and pregnancy conception vitamins which are gluten free. And I seem better and of course no stress....

Irie Velasquez: This is the first video that I've watched of yours and I thank you because I also have alopecia and this video has helped me in so many ways thank you agian.☺

JustLiss: I'm going through this now because of high prolactin etc etc and I've always had long luscious Italian hair so healthy and always took care of it and my body . I for one truly appreciate these videos please continue to make them on paleo diet for day three days of meals, what products to use on your hair ,especially if there are any safe dyes even for a one time use (the sooner the better answer to that question)new subbie love your style much love from Nova Scotia Canada and please keep being you ⭕️❌:( ‍♀️‍♀️much respect as well

Eveningkiss: Ive had alopecia since i was in my early 20s. My doctor put me on a hair growth medication but it meas that I should not have kids. Tough choice but since I am single anyway with no prospects I can live with it. It just sucks that with Alopecia I can't do cute hair styles and I can't even do a weave. I either deal with it or wear a lot of hats.

Sidra Younas: i am bearing it for almost 20 years.. :) had it when i was 9 and i am 26 now:) Allah never burdens a soul more than it bears. i have coped up with it. i dont care what other people think i.myself feel happy and content. life has been a blessing so far. :) have been through all those phases denial, acceptance a.d now coping up. mine has failed to heal i know it cant be cured and i have accepted it. :) this spray seems to be a saver. how can.i.order it in.pakistan ?

Maiz: since I was 14 i've been loosing my hair tried all kind of stuff to sticking needles to my scalp yet still same! now im 30 I have to wash my hair at daily basis or use dry shampoo if I dont have the time cuz it gets oily really fast and my bald big spot shines mile away so I keep applying black eye shadow at the front specially so at least my scalp wont be too shinny that blind the ppl i talk too! the sad part is there is not way to cover it with a wig or extensions

Amber Virk: You're my inspiration Deepa...keep rocking girllove you

Layla Johnson: I am 11 years old I was pronounced with alopecia when I was 4 I was bullied in schools when I was younger because we were just little kids and they did not know it hurt my feeling I got a a lot of questions concluding like do you have cancer, did you shave it I can go on and on with the questions but I was covering my hair with head bands big ugly head bans do cover all of the spots, but when I turned 8 I wished in my candles for my hair to grow back yeah it might seem a little cheesy now but I got a lot of products to help it grow and sure enough I grew I have a little bit of baby hair enough to do my edges but tp people it still looks “bald” when I wear my hair in a bun people like to say I have a “high top fade” even know it hurts i brush it off because I know how much my hair has grown from we’re it was and I look “normal”! Thank you so much for reading my story.

Irie Velasquez: I'm only 12years old and this is the very first video I've watched of yours and I just wanted to say that this video has helped me so much, thank you so much.

ray ttt: Man I know how you feel had this for 10 years it didn't get any easier but I'm thankful I have arms and legs my tip is to find something you enjoy and stop caring what people think

Super Man: Sadly mine is all up top so I use the root sprays every day. I also wash twice a week and just leave the root coverup in. I’m sure some people can tell because it’s a little shiny when the light hits it. Not like real hair would be, but a black shiny scalp, but mostly it’s not noticeable.

Vivi: THANK U SO MUCHHHH I’ve been going to school and people have started to notice that I’m “balding” so I wanted a hairstyle to like hide it

Chandrani Maiti: Thanks for the video..:)..Have heard of eye shadow trick.can it be used regularly to hide bald spots or visible scalp caused due to hair thinning?

Heather The Reseller: Thanks for sharing the L'Oréal gray cover up spray! I am going to buy that!!! Thanks

JustLiss: What temp do u put your wand on I have 6 in one wand by nume and a couple others and always use heat protectant but what temp would you recommend? Thanks for any and all advice ,I'm 37 and so into hair, makeup, beauty and it's really taking a toll on my self esteem ,also would you recommend foam rollers? Much love always ❌⭕️

Amber Rose: I’ve been losing hair since 20- grad school stress sped up the process. Now I cover balding areas with powder. I feel sad and hopeless often. I don’t often wear hair- too embarrassed. Looking for support.

Surabhi Periwal: It's such a tough time! I'm losing so much hair :(

Amira Mostafa: I am losing so much hair at the front of my head. It is not good not easy not happy I am 19 now all the time hidding my hair from dad mum sisters it is just not fair

Elba Saciolo: I have alopecia areata and my bald patch is in the bottom of the back of my head. I like to wear my hair in a ponytail or bun but my spot shows as soon as I pick up my hair. I’ve used color wow and Anastasia’s color wand (both sold st Sephora) to color in my spot. It looks great but my gripe is that the color rubs off onto my coats, jackets, and scarves. Since my hair is a frizzy curly/wavy mess, I don’t have time to fuss with it in the mornings and a ponytail is easier than a wait and see how my hair will dry approach. I am going to pick up the L’Oreal root touch up spray and see how that goes. Thanks for the tips

Amber Escamilla: I have alopecia areata and I have a huge patch in the middle of my head I always do a high ponytail I'm in 7th grade it's hard

saraj: Hi! What are/were some of the shampoos and conditioners that you have used...

Natalie Lynn: Thanks so much! You’re amazing!

Patricia Enns: I have alopecia for a year now. My sports are so big and in the back. My now ex would tell me I dont need hair extensions or this and that but now I think It would make me feel better to not have to hide my spots in public.
