성우이용원 Haircut & Hair Styling In South Korea'S Oldest Barbershop | Seongu Barber Shop Seoul

Haircut and hair styling in the historic 성우이용원 Seongu Barbershop in Seoul, South Korea.

In 1927, Mr. Lee’s grandfather opened the barbershop. At that time, he was the second Korean who was given a permit for barbering by the occupying Japanese. It was in the 1960s when Mr. Lee began cutting hair. He worked with his dad all the way up until the 1970s when his dad decided to retire.

We stopped by the shop to film on a weekday afternoon thinking perhaps it might be quieter during a weekday as opposed to the weekend. We found Mr. Lee had a regular stream of customers coming by the shop so when it was our turn, I hopped into the chair and the camera started to roll!

Mr. Lee is a little over 5’ tall so uses a footstool to stand on while working on his customers. You’ll also see him using potato starch in my hair as a visual aid.

#HairCutHarry #AsmrHaircut #성우이용원

Hello Haircut, ... and [ shave, ], Wet shave, Yeah., Hello, Yeah, we're open tomorrow, Just as usual, Yeah

문진우: This barber shop has been opened since 1927. Master Lee’s grandfather started the barber shop. And the tools that Mr. Lee use are very classic, especially a razor was manufactured in 19th Century. Also this barber shop is officially chosen as the heritage of Seoul City. As a seoulite, I’m very proud of this shop.

Don Mesut: The way he fixes his own hair before starting Harry’s, classic act

Raymundo Gutierrez: Over 2 years and I still watch this to go to sleep. I know the exact times that trigger my asmr lol. Thanks for always putting up this content. It’s greatly appreciated.

Khan7294: This is absolutely amazing, this is art for that barber. That is one of the best haircuts I have ever seen. The techniques he used are traditions that many barbers these days don’t follow. Much respect.

Dion: I've been a barber for 45 yrs. This barber put out a masterpiece! Beautiful work! Only thing about this video I would have liked to see was a bit more close ups of the finished hairstyle at the very end before Harry left the chair. But not complaining, I loved it!

Questosh: No unnecessary small talk, just pure concentration and relaxation, best barber in the world!

Rick James B.: This is one of the best haircuts I have ever seen. The skill level and experience of this man achieving this haircut with scissors is extremely impressive!! He basically made a perfect fade without any blades or other machine. Looks like a very stylish and upper class haircut. You'd imagine this man to go home and wear an expensive suit, expensive cologne and go to a high end party or business meeting after this lol.

Gugz Dhanjal: It’s been 2 years and I still haven’t managed past 10 minutes without falling asleep, so calming!

Mappster: I love how all tools he is using are primarily traditional. It gives a lot away about what it means to master something with simple tools rather than trying to overcome difficulties with newer technologies all the time.

Jeffersons Gil: Su técnica, atención al detalle y su cuidado en cada aspecto durante el corte es absolutamente impresionante. Bravo!

Sevo Kato: As a barber I can say this is the best haircut you ever had from this amazing barber well done

Ava Vulpes: I’m impressed by how....gently(?) he handles the hair. He uses a light, precise, gentle hand when it comes to doing a haircut. Honestly, it was relaxing to watch him do this.

AlexWtss: This was so cool to watch. Currently in barber school and obviously a lot of the techniques have been taught to me but what this barber is using is tried and true as well as tradition. I am so impressed

FFHB: One of the best videos from You Sir! While watching I always have the feeling, that this master doesn't cut hair, he sculpture it. He sees the final result in the beginning. Modern barbers just do the routine movements and the result come up somewhat what they wanted. This guy achieve the exact result he wanted.

GAU-8: I used to grow my hair out long, and I would go to an old WWII vet barber, every 3 years. The only haircut he gave was a flat top. He had so much pride ( and joy) making a long haired skater, look like a Marine, every 3 years. Thank you Glenn. ( Spring Branch, Houston, Texas.) He has since passed many years ago. But I carry my tradition, in memory of my WWII vet haircutting retired Marine!

Tony Thomasson: I rarely ever comment on YT videos, but this dude’s expertise and passion was crazy inspiring. All of a sudden, I’m wondering if I wanna pursue becoming a barber.

El Doc Bruh: I've watched most of your videos but I always keep coming back to this one. I'm not speaking about any barbers' skills because they are all amazing, I mean the sounds. This video is the most relaxing to me (even in spite of the phone call!)

Christine Hawkins: Just watched a video of the same male model at HaircutHarry in Tokyo - the oldest traditional barber there. It is run by Harry’s daughter and Harry occasionally helps out - according to the information on the video. It’s amazing that there are two shops giving this dedicated and professional service.

Peter Steeber: I like how he unveils the cart where he sharpens the straight razors, he looks over his shoulder like he's hiding a time machine and doesn't want anybody to see. Awesome video

El Rony :D: These haircuts are just like my Uber experiences . Nothing is said the whole time but I rate the driver 5 stars.

Cristina Cervantes Rodriguez: El arte en su técnica, su meticulosidad, su respeto al cliente, su perfeccionismo, y su amabilidad... Es algo admirable, todo un arte y un verdadero profesional. Bravo Sr lee's

Mufmager: This barber really knows what he's doing, he knows his customer is comfortable and he knows he's going to do it perfectly, a true professional here!

Rick Whiterock: Love the video, brings back great memories. When I was in the Army and stationed in Pusan in the 1960’s @ Camp Hialeah Compound. I had the best South Korean barber that cut my hair every two weeks. He was excellent, he finished with a short shoulders and head massage. Best barber I have ever had in all my years of getting haircuts. The South Korean people were very friendly and are great people.

Kyle: Love this video! You can tell a lot of history, culture, int traditions are a part of this Barbara‘s life!

Alejandro Villar Barrau: In my opinion, this is your best video, Harry. The sound is perfect, the time is perfect, the place is perfect, and the hairdresser is a real caracter...

Fixwesker: I don't know why, but watch this video every day, it's amazing to see how professional he is.

M: I've seen this video at least 10 times and every time I burst out laughing when Mr Lee checks his own hair at 2:33. I'm a South African living in Seoul and have never been to a Korean barber. I think Mr Lee will be my first!

Charlie Babbitt33: My Cousin, who was a lot older than me, and since has passed on was an old school barber and seeing a lot of these videos makes me miss these old school barbers...These artists really cared about their craft and were magicians with their sheers...They all have the same tendencies--for example when you think the cut is done (23:10), he, like this gentleman, would see something outta place and would go back and clip whatever caught their eye....I sure do miss going there and seeing the same materials like the combs in alcohol or the leather strap for the razor blades which I still don't know what it did--it couldn't be for sharpening./.? Also that same machine that contained boiling hot, perfectly constituted cream....then the banter that would take place in a barber shop.....As usually things don't get better but only worse with today's cuts and shops...It seems as though that the ones that are doing well are the ones that go back to the style of that day...Today its unique but then was how it was done.....Old school.......

markatkinson167: This is just a great barbershop experience, the barber , the cut, the establishment. Thank you.

Manuel Saldivar: These old school barbers are a national treasure in their respective countries. Love watching the care and skills of a true master.

richard piper: 49 years ago we had Korean barbers at the Seoul Yongsan U.S. Army base. They always did a great job with their scissors just like this master barber.

Douglas De Graff: I've been watching your videos for a year now and this guy is a MASTER!!. He would have made a prominent surgeon, but what he does for you hair Harry, I've seen nothing like it. Perfect Cut.

Aditya Sixviandy J: I remember Mr Lee!!! He is on a TV Show, and for that show he go to Seville, Spain, and opening a barbershop there. he famous for had a gentle hand within customers in Spain. I wish he still healthy and live well for years to come.

markatkinson167: I just think that this is brilliant at everything, the look of the establishment at the time, it looks like it's half falling down but what charm alongside an amazing barber. It's a perfect example of the goal of your channel. Thank you for sharing with the world.

Wagner Tom: Dream come true! Some years ago he complained about young people no longer being interested in his trade and the lack of respect, many were making fun of him. Thanks to youtube he's a star in Korea right now, young folks comin from all over to visit him. The number of views his vids are generating in Korea is just insane

louie armeza: Almost a year and im still back again and again to watch this and i was so thankful because it helps to reduce my anxiety..

Clap On: So relaxing & very pleasurable to watch!! This gives you a great smile! Better than other ‘relaxing’ music!! And of course, the camera work made everything better!!

J. R Park: The 3 things that man must have 1: A good ride 2: A good friend 3: And a good barber

Igor Ribera: I probably would sleep during this haircut, he's so calm and professional! and the scissors noise give me an ASMR experience, this video is awesome

DK: Everything about this video is perfect but i can't explain why, the setting is rustic and humble yet simple, the quietness of the inside and distant noise of a busy city outside, the colours blend, the care and effort in the haircut, the waiting for the phone till the third ring and the delicious click of him putting the phone down, youtube is a strange and wonderful place

Dh’oine Craag: Harry!! thank you so much for making videos, they help me alot with my anxiety or when im sad

cfltitan: I LOVE these videos. They're so relaxing and awesome to watch masters at work. Out of curiosity what does a nice haircut and shave like that run in Korea? Most wondering how they compare to the US.

JJW fish keeping.: Truly jealous. Not only that you get to experience such relaxing shaves but the places you have traveled is mind blowing.

Todd Sin: Oldest barbershop in South Korea AND still using its original equipment by the looks of things. . A pleasure to watch him in action with a noticeable, yet humble, pride in his work.

Kyle Bozell: The courage and belief in yourself to take scissors to someone's hair knowing they will live with it for quite some time, no matter where in the world! Love the videos so relaxing to watch

jayce freak: No one pointing out how good the barber's own hair is ?!?! Never seen such perfect hair, not short/not long, slighlty wavy, slighlty put backwards, much slighlty grey hair by the side, super shiny. Clearly a man of taste.

Declan McKenna: I keep coming back to this one. It's definitely my favourite. The guy is so cool and his shop is as well.

tb11212: Leaving this timestamp for myself loo the knife sharpening sounds at 24:40 are amazing

Counselor Alex: I've never seen a barber so meticulous around the neck. Amazing work

Mike Rowland: I’ve been a Barber for 20 years and just realized I have alot to learn...

PhotoLawgic74: This man is a MASTER of barbering ! A true artist. Much Respect ! God bless him

Cosmic Nemesis: i think this is the 50th time im watchin this, works like asmr to me, the scrissors, the stool, the belts for razor, the preparation before each step, all these sounds :D

J: I've seen this barbershop in another video and I always want to to go here because I knew your video style would fit this place so well. Wonderful video Harry. Big fan here!

Leo Jung: How confident every single moment trimming hair and phenomenal manners he has. I want to visit his shop for sure.

Eric Bonifield: So, I've watched this quite a few times over the years and I absolutely LOVE when old boy checks him self out really quick in the mirror and gives his hair a j'ooojzh before getting down to business

TheThrashers200: glad to see this is now the most popular video on the channel! this gentleman did a fantastic job through and through.

Andrew Vitale: Love this old dude! You can tell he's had many clients in that chair and is talented also nothing like sharp objects around your juggler while wondering if the roof will fall in. And the air-conditioning, brilliant!

베리럭키: He has more than 50 years of career. It's hard to explain, but he has real character. Every movement shows unknown pride.

Pablo Canedo: O melhor barbeiro de todos. Simples, original e genuíno. È do jeito dele, e ponto final hahaha.

Jon K: I’ve never seen anyone cut with thinning sheers like that before (granted my hair is nowhere near as thick as Harry’s). He definitely did a number of things that were very unique and out of the ordinary (like the thinning sheers, shaving cream in the hair, powder in the hair, razor blade the bangs, use the clippers going up to trim the neck, watering can to rinse… etc.) but in the end I think this was an amazing haircut and looked great! You can tell he has tons of experience and I would be honored to get a haircut from him! He’s a first class act, and nice touch with the fan!

J.P.: Man I'd visit there just for the old school barber shop feeling! Can just imagine how many ppl have been thru his chair! Everything was done w purpose and no wasted movement!

Richard Neal: I like looking at the objects in a barber shop and trying to figure out the history of the objects around me. Looking at the history with this shop is like counting the growth rings on a ancient tree.

WelshPhasmid: It would be great to go to this barber shop. No awkward small talk.

Kenneth Noles: This is one of my favorite videos the barber seems to have a great personality I’ve watched it times

Miguel Ángel Balaguer: ¡Me encanta cómo hace su trabajo este peluquero!

Timothy Wilson: Easily one of the best haircut videos I’ve seen. Great job on this find. And Thank You for the content.

Eduardo prado gonxalex: Hola harry unos de los mejores videos, un saludo desde México espero que este señor se encuentre bien saludos a todos

kiely 456: Harry's face when he started styling his own hair in the mirror literally made my day

Wayne Neher: So many little places like this are gone. How very refreshing to see this! Good work like this cannot be rushed.

Rio: After 50 years, he’s got a full bag of tricks up his sleeve of how to transform this mans hair into an exceptional haircut. Epic!

Barber J: One of the top 10 best cuts I've seen, hands down the technique of featuring is call for for your type of hair.. very professional and glad ive watched it... I will be using his skills and apply it to my own.

what if I left it would made no sense..: The cutest thing I've ever seen he's doing a perfect job God bless him ❤️

Calis_hope: I love, how courteous he was with the phone. He didn't rush to grab, he waited until the 3rd ring, politely answered and got back to the client.

steve thornton: This man was born for ASMR incredible job

b4d69: interesting how there's never any other customers walking into the shop when harry's getting a cut!

lflagr: Great haircut. Is it just me or is it always impossible to recreate the exact same look at home the next day lol

jeff wetmore: Mr. Lee was a total joy to watch! I'm very impressed that he started the cut with the 44/20 blending shears. You can do a lot of damage with those if you're not careful. Mr. Lee is a true master barber!

Squad Customs Garage: Best haircut on YouTube for the last 2yrs I think I have watched this every single day too. Thankyou for the awesome content.

Captain William T. Riker: This was so relaxing to watch, a true master of his profession.

Ăla: This is by far the best scissors work I've ever seen. The haircut is perfect. The hairdresser ... What a legend!

Jeff Spencer: His attention to detail was fantastic . Would love a haircut from him,

William Christian: There’s always something special when a person treats his/her job with professionalism and craftsmanship. They do it right with methodical precision with a great and positive result. It’s just a fantastic old school style that one should never fault. They are few and far between these days. These are the people to reach out to. And tell them you appreciate and value their work.

lifelesskids: I hope one day I'll fly to Seoul and get a haircut from this uncle.

Miguel Andres: Execelente , me encantó las maneras clasicas y amtiguas de cortar cabello , el resultado final me encantó , felicitaciones

The Fluro Aussie: Too many barbers where I am are just cut and collect....it would feel strange walking out only when the barber feels that every hair is the exact length and in the correct position.....sheer perfection

Frankie Blades: This guy looks completely self-taught, Breaks the standard with logic, tells me this and probably has been making do for a really long time, The only barber I ever seen use talcum powder to cut the hair

David Micevski: Me at the beginning of this video: Theres no way im going to watch a guy getting a haircut for 35 minutes Me at the end of the video: THATS IT???

The Analog Circle Podcast.: He knew exactly how much to cut with the scissors and a comb and never lost his place. Salute.

Tyler Whitford: Congrats to Mr.Lee and Harry to 10mm views! Truly a treasure of a video.

TommyTron2000: I always fall back to this video when I need some good asmr

Charles Hanna: Love watching a real master work I don't care if it is laying bricks or performing surgery I love watching someone that lives and breathes thier craft

Kristena Patron: Pixar should make a relaxing short film of this guy cutting hair. Like remember that old guy in toy story when he put woody back together. It was so calming.

Silvers Rayleigh: What I like is that the guy doesn't know a word in Korean and the Barber barely knows the word "haircut" in English, they barely even speak to each other, but somehow the barber has figured out exactly what the guy wanted and what type of haircut suits him. Amazing.

Manuel Zentner: Hace tiempo ya lo vi y sigo diciendo, este video tiene algo que me tranquiliza.. Muy muy tranquilizador, relajante..
