Getting Frosted Tips At A One Star Hair Salon | One Star Reviews

On the new season of One Star Reviews, VICE's Taji Ameen has temporarily relocated to Florida where (luckily for the series) businesses remain open no matter what. In this episode, Taji visits a hair colorist who has received numerous one star reviews. Watch to see the results of his Florida inspired look as he puts his hair on the line yet again.

By law i just did a service and you can't like technically leave. You know i can call the cops so i'm in florida right now where, luckily, for my one star review series, it's a place, that's open for business, no matter what, and while in florida i uh you know want to tap into the scene. You know i want to immerse myself within the culture i wan na play the part we're going all the way: frosted tips, baby. Okay, let's see what we have here, there's quite a few options. People in florida seem to really take their hair quite seriously, so i just came across studio 209 beauty. They appear to operate out of their home. They uh have some nice chairs. So let's just see what the uh reviews say immediately after i left that place. I had burning and itching on my scalp sabrina is extremely slow and she keeps her clients waiting forever plus she's, a horrible color. I told her i did not like, and i wanted the way i told her and she told me she had no time and i had to pay her or she was gon na call the police. She closed me in her little room lol. Really. I certainly feel as if it's my duty to try to get to the bottom of that, and hopefully it doesn't land me in this um small room, but sign me up. I was excited for this new upgrade to my style with so many truly iconic looks coming from this area of the country i knew i was in the right hands. However, these hands were attached to the arms of a business who has received many one star reviews blizzard how you doing hi, i'm tashi, hi, hi nice to meet you, i'm sabrina so nice to meet you. You wan na, come on back um sure. Thank you. Okay, great and we'll be right in here have a seat. How did you get into the world of hair? I'M? Basically i've been doing hair for about 25 years, and i followed my mom's footsteps. I'Ll show you all the rooms there used to be bedrooms. This room is the only one that has a window that opens that used to be the kitchen super nice, but no one does live here. It'S um! No! It'S just all um business yeah awesome after a short tour of their impressive house conversion. It was time to get to business, but from the reviews i had read, i was naturally nervous. Maybe i'll just use the restroom really quickly before my consultation. Thank you with an empty bladder and a full heart. I was ready for my treatment. So tell me a little bit about your hair and tell me what you want to do being in florida. You know, i thought i would just try something new. You know some wow to it: yeah exactly yeah, maybe somewhere like i like this guy okay, you know and it's kind of subtle. But then again i like this one: okay, so maybe like almost meeting halfway heavy but yeah, okay, um exactly that feels nice yeah, with some reviews hinting towards a lack of experience. I wanted to ask sabrina directly about her credentials to set the record straight. Did you study hair or you learned from your mom? No, i went to beauty school. Oh, you did awesome yeah. It took me about eight months to graduate. I went morning and night all day just to get it all. You know just get it done and get work and get working and basically trying you know for sure yeah, because practice makes perfect so um a little bit of color for you're mixing some color. What what goes into that? A little bit of bleach honestly, a little bit of bleach a little bit of bleach? Is that some peroxide, or what is that a little bit yeah peroxide immediately after i left that place? I had burned an itching on my scalp right on i'm curious what i look like my treatment was underway. There had been some wild accusations describing how sabrina deals with allegedly difficult customers. I was curious to find out some more. Do you ever have any like difficult clients at any time or how is it dealing with people? Well, you know just it can't, please everybody, but you try to do as much as you can to have a great visit. No, i mean i even like did a search you know before i came in and i you know read through a few of the reviews: um something right over here. Totally, that's okay! Take your time we'll get back to that! No oh yeah! I might have it over here, okay sure, a little bit, i'm gon na put you under the dryer. Now thanks, i feel like i'm about to go off to outer space or something right blast off. It'S gon na look great with my last attempt foiled. Now i would try for a second launch into sabrina's one star reviews, but yeah i mean i even you know checked out some of the reviews before coming in, i was wondering - maybe i could you know, ask you a couple questions about that. You know kind of give you a chance to speak. You know for yourself, oh yeah, yes, one review, i saw kept coming up. People were claiming um difficulty, i guess, with the appointment time they were saying they were kept waiting. This kind of thing someone claimed they felt um, it was disrespectful and rude towards them, even right and now it can be because i know, as a customer like i feel like customer service, it should be number one, but you know you can't please everybody so sometimes Yeah, there's been some instances, you know nobody's perfect, but we try as best as we can. You know to you know, do the best that we can this made sense, but there were certain reviews that had me really concerned mentioning people allegedly being held captive against their will. I think i saw two different reviews where someone claims, i guess they expressed, they weren't happy with the results, and then they were kind of just. I guess in a situation where um they were told, you know you have to pay or we're gon na call. The police and they were almost felt um, they felt threatened and almost like, then they ended up in some sort of like small room. They they a couple people referenced. You know um, like almost captive captain no like um. I remember. I think there was one lady actually a couple. Ladies, you know you think that they're happy with their hair, but then they like just storm up and try to leave the salon. You know and i'm like what are you trying to like leave by law? I just did a service and you can't like technically leave. You know i can call the cops. So that's what i told them. She was gon na call the police and she enclosed me in her little room. Yelling me, you pay me, or i called the police, and i never told her that i was not gon na pay and she was like. Oh my god like no like, and i was like what are you talking about? The haircut is perfect perfection. That was one another lady with the color technique thing like she had long hair. It was like dark hair. Well, of course, the color is going to be different at the root, so at the end they're like oh, my hair was two different colors and then they posted on the review. When i'm like, i try to tell you what you needed to do to do your hair. I don't know just to think about the things that the people like about really don't make sense to me. You run into some people that, just i don't think they're happier than themselves. You know, because i typically wouldn't do that at a salon. You just don't show your ass, like that totally yeah and they're, probably getting free stuff all the time, because i had a friend that put me on the spot like that. One time i couldn't believe it we're in a restaurant and she didn't want to pay for her food. I know there's people out there that are probably the same way at different salons but yeah. No, that must be very difficult. I feel like to keep everyone happy. You know with hairstyles, you know everyone is different and i have a reputation here and i have a reputation of course. You know i have my mom's salon and you know i want to always do the best. I can to hold that you know what she's been building for so long. I even thanked my mom the other day too. I said mom, you know i have everything because of you. She put food on our table and i'm doing the same thing for my kids and that's all that matters to me. You'Ve made this uh very pleasant experience. Thank you. Awesome, you're! Welcome. I really appreciate it, letting us film in here you know, come in yeah. No problem really appreciate it. Yeah yeah, no problem anytime. I, like your shoes, the bleach had done its work and i think that we made great use of the lengthy process by settling some scores. So now it was time to see the results. The energy is good right. Thank you. I promise i will be paying you too. I can. I can guarantee i'm good for it got the company card in my pocket looks uh super cool, i'm like blown away by this. Thank you. He came to the right place. Even that smells amazing too. Oh my! I want to eat it. You made me feel really good today, i'm so kind you made me feel really good today. Thank you, sabrina, yeah you're. Welcome. Thank you again for having us here. Yeah you're, welcome. It'S been amazing. Thank you. Yeah great! All right, bye, head off um sun, with my uh fun hair. I entered studio 209 with the expectation of a technician with a lack of knowledge of color in an alleged hostile environment. If you do not like the results of your hair, i was met promptly by sabrina, with a warm welcome. She was very attentive during my consultation and paid close attention to my hair desires and kept me updated on every step of the way. To be honest, i was in fear of potentially not liking the results which could end up in altercation and potential police involvement, but she made me feel comfortable and opened my eyes to the reality that some customers purposefully act up in order to get a free service. Sure it has a rougher than average aesthetic. So if you were expecting a state-of-the-art fancy facility, this might not be the right place for you. However, if you want to feel good and be in a family run environment, then this is the place for you. I felt right at home to my great happiness. I did end up loving the results and she assured me i could be in touch with any questions or concerns within the coming weeks. So thank you sabrina for helping me accomplish the new florida look of my dreams. Someone even said i looked like this band b44. It'S like this boy band. We were watching some of their videos. They definitely have an on-camera presence about them.

Tony Martino: This dude is keeping Vice alive, one flame shirt at a time.

sydney motto: no no, she’s right. darker hair, and all types of hair, are extremely different and results will vary. people don’t realize it takes multiple sessions, lots of money, and a bunch of time in order to get desired results

Paul McCullough: The “live laugh love” conversion into the 1 star was wonderful Really added some “wow” to it

Bobby castillo: I used to work at 209 and those were some of my fondest memories of my career. It’s where I built my clientele. They are the sweetest family. Her parents were running it at the time and I hope all is well with them. Sabrina was the sweetest always friendly with my customers and I . Yes the place is a humble spot but that was what genuine about it, it was family run mom and pop. They also had a bad ass nail tech Annette, she was the best at foot massages I really miss those simple days. It was sad to leave but had to spread my wings once I grew my family. Much love to the Ramos family ❤️❤️

ThisFallenBitch: My only issue is that the shop is filthy but the color actually looks pretty good!I wish you would’ve let her give you a cut, that would’ve tied it all together!

D.S.: The video editors can literally make a star out of anything

PeterCaptainObvious: I can sympathise with Sabrina, the semi-rant she had about the Karens she has served spoke to me. You can tell she's dealt with some horrible people and has had her reputation tarnished because of them. At moments I thought she was going to break down when Taj brought up the negative reviews because she probably thought "oh here we go again", poor woman

Elizabeth Banks: She did such a great job she literally did exactly what you wanted!!! A perfect middle of the two pics you showed her

Pianotub: “1 Star Reviews” would be an absolutely unreal tv show. Throw it on TLC

Sieayrra Alvarez: I love his social akwardness and how he goes into everything with such an untainted opinion even though he’s only read bad reviews. He has such a cute shyness and sweetness about him that not many people have and I love it.

Serenity Novalee: I've seen a lot of videos of people taking advantage of small business, getting what they want but then acting like it's wrong so they don't have to pay. She seems sweet and did a good job. Wishing her the best!!!

Andrew Sanderson: Mate that hairstyle actually really suits you. Sabrina I hope you read these reviews because you are a lovely human being. I can tell you are doing the best you can with your situation. I almost see some pain behind your eyes. Keep up the great work.

Benno: I love the semi social awkwardness of this guy plus the 1990’s flame shirt is just amazing hahaha love these episodes ❤️

Jonathan Berganza: I love the awkwardness. It's so human and just what I love about this guy in particular. It's not scripted, but it is planned which is unique and I think a lot of people can agree on this.

C. T.: As a stylist I can say that we really appreciate when you love your hair to please give us a review. Negative people run to Yelp and try to take you down

👑Stormi Savagee⚡️: I was so weak at the review when she said “she closed me in her little room”

Crystal Westmoreland: As a hairdresser I can truly believe her. I have some horror story of my own with crazy clients.

macy sorvillo: She did a great job! The salon could be cleaner but you can tell shes trying. I wish her the best

Psychotherapist MFT: She did a great job ! And it’s really hard to work in the service industry , consumers treat you like crap . I empathize with the stylist . Also great content .

Cat Boss: She actually seems like a really nice lady, hope she gets much more business after this video. Hair is very subjective so I see her prospective.

AP: Sabrina!! If you are seeing this! You did a great job! You seem very professional and kind and as a person who is in the hair industry, I understand that there are many bullies like this. Really proud of you and hope you are well. Stay safe and take care

Cyn Thia: She's lovely, and I would love to have her as a hair stylist.

Ashia: Those frosted tips actually look really good, she did a great job!

Rafael Michael Soto: Sabrina is awesome!! I’ve known her and her parents since I was a kid!! My grandparents were really close with her mom and dad!! My grandmother would go over to their shop every Friday like clock work to get her hair done by, Mary which is Sabrina’s mom!! I always felt so much love when I was around Sabrina and her mom and dad!! They are of Mexican heritage and I love that about them since I am both Mexican and White!! Mexican people have so much love and compassion, it’s part of our culture!! The shop that they own always felt so homey and welcoming to me!! And Sabrina and her mom and dad are like family to me, and they will always be family to me, no matter what!! Also, Sabrina is the best damn hair stylist I know!! She always would make me look so fly, and nobody has ever been able to do my hair the way she does!! I love, Sabrina!! She is NUMERO UNO !! ❤️⚡️

Smaller On The Outside: This is one of the most endearing things I've watched in a while - I'm def about to binge this series. I'm super digging the vibe.

Marshall Tucker: that hair dye really did improve his overall style. impressive work, love the series keep it up

omu*: sabrina came off as an absolute sweetheart, so different compared to the other dismissive business owners. hair coloring especially is a very complicated practice, dealing with all sorts of hair types, especially when the clients may not truly understand the state their hair might be in, must be difficult. i hope her business continues to do well!

Genuine Justin: She did absolutely amazing. We should all band together to boost her rating LOL.

Svonkie: This is an awesome series. Great for the misunderstood good cats and lousy for the genuinely bad ones! Binge watching!

Joanna: I was at a beauty salon and the lady told me she has had a customer pull the kind of stuff Sabrina is describing just to get her service for free so I 100% believe her.

Autumn Leaf: Woah, someone gotta give an award out to the editor for that live laugh love star transition. That was fire

rachel Bradbury: I think he’s so good at keeping business owners calm and comes from a place of understanding when asking them tough questions about their reviews. He’s very polite but he also looks a little scared lol, it might just be for building abit of drama.

Brett King: LOL his "nervous-awkward" forced smiles are the best part

Geddy: The editing on this series sold me. It's time to binge-watch the whole thing. Love this guy's personality and the editing is incredibly well done. Very tongue-in-cheek. EDIT: his hair looks awesome, Sabrina did a great job! I remember getting my tips frosted back in the 90s haha, always hated how they had to pull your hair through those tiny holes with that hook. Didn't feel too good.

Anon: This hair stylist was really good. I know exactly the types of clients she has had and they try to bully people into getting what they want. Especially if it’s a small business and not a big company

Jack Delaney: I really hope this video brings a lot more business to Sabrina, doing a great job and a nice lady

Paola Sansores: I’ve heard of this “happy until it’s time to pay” phenomenon, or happy until they’re home, and the call and want a refund from several hair dressers

Bob Debuilda: This lady was awesome and you can tell she has dealt with some major Karens, especially i florida!!! I feel for her. This man is doing some serious community service for these people. So wholesome

Dean Robinson: She did a great job, just the right amount of highlights and they blended well with is natural hair colour.

SolidBanjo Banjo: I honestly didn’t know vice was still a thing until I saw these videos, you deserve all the cash mate you’re keeping them alive and relevant

Lisa Burgess: I love how they allowed her to redeem herself! Great job Vice!! ♥️♥️♥️

Billy Anderson: The irony of this guy leaning so heavily on the Yelp process is he consistently shows that it’s a flawed one. All too often he goes to these one star places and discovers the issue might have a lot to do with needy and bratty customers

Onyeiwu Henry: I totally understand how she feels, some people think because it’s a small biz. they can walk in and bully the owner something they won’t try when they get poor services from big businesses.

legoland: you've made me want to get frosted tips now

Jennifer Paquette: I love your personality and hosting style it’s great to watch for hours

TheFeralBoy: I love her. She seems so sweet and genuinely is hurt by the bad reviews and just wants people to like their hair. Like others said, the only fault i see is the shop being a little messy but her work looks solid! She managed to get a really good color on his tips and they look nice and even!

Jose Carvajal: I absolutely love that smile emanating awkwardness and a scream for help at the same time

Alejandro: Awesome results! Dude looks straight out of the early 2000s! Please leave the salon a 5 star review. Thank you

Justin: I love this guy and this show. So funny and interesting, I wish he had a full on TV show.

microsoftpainenthusiast: I love how he always asks about problems with customers when somebody is going to pierce his nipple or he has his head held in a torture device.

This Week in Bigfoot News: Taji just seems like the nicest person ever, and he's actually rocking the frosted tips!

Clinton Smith: I stand with Sabrina. She seems professional and kind.

bigjoocy: 2:15 I had to rewind this several times because I'm crying of laughter, I totally get what you were going for with this and it kills me everytime lmao

AA: Been watching Taji for a while now, and he always does a great job. Nice tips Taji, they look good!

nuclear pasta: Taj is just such a genuinely nice human. Love this dude

Ashleey: Someone give this man a damn raise. He deserves it

wutflex: She actually nailed your request perfectly!

donkeycuong: i've worked in a nail salon and have encountered the same. people will just end up trying to walk out especially when it's busy so they can get free services.

Wisdom Calls: I give this video 5 ⭐️’s! I thought it was going to be hilarious, which it was, but then it totally took a turn when he gave her 5 stars. What a picture of redemption! I loved it!

elibean: As a hairdresser, I've dealt with people like this. I have had people who don't tell me exactly what they want and when I cut their hair too short or not the way they wanted they get upset. I've even had other people seem happy at first and then walk out saying it wasn't what they wanted but say "oh itll work even though it wasn't what i was looking for" i then offer to help them or fix their hair and they refuse and choose to still write a bad review. you truly cannot please everyone

Sky Nope: I really like her she seems so sweet and kind. I would be mad to though if I did a service for someone for them to act like they’re not going to pay me for it.

Jean de Oliveira Quevedo: I really like what this show does. Despite focusing in a humoristic take it shows there are true people related to the reviews, and that reviews don't depict the whole picture. Empathy is needed, and it doesn't need to be flattery.

Riley95: The editing team deserve a golden globe

OG Studio: His smile is everything hahah legend! This show is amazing also he shows just go off on your own experience as people are really nasty with reviews. A big problem for small business owners and its sad and haha she is soooo right a lot will complain to get a free cut..

Caitlyn Jones: These are the only kind of vice videos I watch. Love this series!

Wesley Wilson: Taji's a legend. Keep up the only real consistent journalism at Vice!

john king: I’m so glad you give these people a chance to address the trolls online. it’s important!

SimBol1216: Man, I got some feels when she said he made her feel really good today. I feel like they could be good friends

Ashley Fry: Being a hairstylist I found this quite amusing. ✌

V U: I love the editing and energy.. great job!

Emma Ventura: This one is my favorite so far. I hope she succeeds in her business.

mobay sparta: Finally my guy is back sacrificing himself for a good cause

Sky Raven: My face hurts from smiling and laughing so much throughout the entire video

Millie McIntyre: the frosted tips actually look SO good lmao

Escape Raccoon City: His hair turned out to be amazing. Kudos to Sabrina.

everything will be ok: Once again, I just love he voices reading the reviews. They get me every time

ItsBetos: Vice please don’t ever cancel Taji and his One Star Reviews! I always look forward to these episodes!! He’s the best!

TheJohnGway: This lady did a really good job! I wasn't expecting much because of the meme choice of the hair style.

Guggu3d: Vice's One Star Reviews editor should get a huge raise, that guy is amazing.

Jia Lee: I'd kill to witness Taji's perfect demeanor navigate out of a one-star mental hospital

Dawn W: I love this guy so much lol. And he's just adorable, good vibes.

Deborah Langley: Well done! You handled this so well, and asked great questions. Sabrina also responded with openness and honest answers to hard questions. I would go to her if I lived there.

Monica Russell: I absolutely enjoy these videos ❤️ I watch on Snapchat. I came all the way to YouTube to tell you that don’t let fake internet people get you down! you’re awesome.

worminator15: I love the 5 star ones They‘re always so wholesome

David Akiva: This dude is the only reason why I still watch Vice. Great video.

Paul Eric: She actually did a really good job on the tips

Dahbz1434: The fact that she was willing to talk about it instead of just kicking you out for grilling her…

yellowboxes09: You can’t really go wrong with bleaching caps when you have short hair. Looks great. His smiles are hilarious

Jimmy Neurotransmitters: It's crazy that Ethan Klein has a separate entity and doesn't talk about it. Wild man

Adrianna Machado: I love this guy! He’s energy and humor.!!!! Only reason why I watch vice

sasuke pluto: from what we all seen i feel that it’s more of the customers than the workers. but from what sabrina showed us she was actually a nice lady and i think she did pretty good on his hair, but as he did say if you wanna go there and feel welcomed and just relax i’d say it’s a perfect spot

Andrei Chete: She did an amazing job!

Jennifer Leigh: Aww, she seems sweet and she did amazing!!! . Ive been to 4 and 5 stars and people rate them bad too. Its hard to believe

uberknarf1: This was everything I needed to feel good about today. Thanks, Taj.

Yinzer Ghost: Legitimately looks good! If I had hair, I'd let Sabrina at it without hesitation.

Fernando Gil: I love Taji…!!! And I’m glad he gives a voice to the people who most of the time seems defenseless against online trolls, whoever has worked serving people knows how unfair it can be.

Mayra-Alejandra Viera: His hair actually looks pretty damn good. Nice work Sabrina!

Sylvano Olivier: All I will say is this guy is awesome!! I really like the one star reviews series..

Cheyenne Jones: as a cosmetologist I can relate 100% some people Invision themselves as the picture when in reality thier face shape or skin tone wont go with the picture they provided its unrealistic to want to look spot on like the picture color wise we can get you there but if doesnt complement your face shape or skin tone then we can only try our best to make the client happy you cant please everyone
