There are so many different hair products out there, clay pomade paste powder, but which is the best one for you, hello, hi. How are you i'm robin welcome back or welcome to my youtube channel this little world right here is man from south. If you like, hair product reviews, grooming, skincare, fragrance and videos like this very one, then chances are yes, you are going to love it around here. Please do press subscribe right now? Okay, this is episode. Six i've got here in my eye episode. Six of my hair products guide series really a deep dive into the world of hair products and helping you save money and find the best product for you. I do all the testing got loads of products here, and i really tell you what products gon na work for the kind of things you want or your hair type. Now there are so many different types of hair products out there, clay paste, pomade the title of the video uh there are like fibers. There are so many, but i'm gon na focus just on these four here, because there is something for everyone i should say. If you're new to this series, then hi you're most welcome um, you have missed five episodes, but those were really on pre-styling. This one we're starting on the styling products and each week i'm going to be going into um how to use these products and then give you a bit of a top five right. First on my list here is pomade. Now pomade is one of if not the oldest type of hair product out there pomade comes from pomade, which is french for ointment, which comes from the latin pom, which comes from apple, really, they used to make pomades out of mashed up apple and also a bit Of fat sort of large - and that's really what a pomade was - it was a thick oil-based product which then went on to create these really amazing sort of classic traditional styles. Think of a huge pompadour uh, think of a ducktale at the back. So you've got the hair going into itself, but it was it was these big, big, hairstyles and really a pomade has kind of stayed quite true to this sort of styling, which is a high shine and a good to strong hold. Now, with technology praise be, we do have more sort of uh water-based pomade, so you've got oil-based, which has oil at the top. It'S going to be harder to wash out much harder. Sometimes you really got to sort of scrub at it and then you're going to have water-based products, which really should wash out just with a touch of shampoo, maybe even a bit of water. Now the why? Why would you want to be using a pomade? I think it is for these big, structured, hairstyles loads of shine loads of hold and something which says you're a guy that looks after his hair the who anyone can use this um. It really just depends on the kind of thing you want. If you've got really thick hair, then a pomade is going to be great. It'S going to give you that control it's going to hold it down. It'S going to hold it up really in whatever way you want the more traditional of the pomades like hi. I have one here and by rhizo fantastic, really strong, thick product, that's going to work up into the hair and give you all this hold for it or if you want something a little bit more loose. But you want that shine and you want a touch of hold. Then a water-based product is also going to work. I'M going to link them down in the description, so you can check them out and see what you want. Okay, so pomade, then a clay clays are the newest type of hair product out there they're the newest and, in my opinion, they're one of the best um clays tend to be water-based. Some of them can be oil-based. Next week episode. Seven we're talking clays, i'm gon na, give you my top five and spoiler alert. This is one of my top fives um moroccan oil. Texture, clay, really great product water based clays, tend to have clay in it. Surprise, surprise! So look into the ingredients you're going to see something like cowling or bentonite. Now bentonite tends to swell the hair. So if you are a guy, that's got slightly fine or thinning hair. Then it's going to be perfect. That'S really the. Why, and also clay by its very nature is uh really great to keep the the scalp and the hair healthy it keeps nutrients in a lot of these products are packed full of other good things. That'S going to help to condition the hair and to nourish the hair and look after the scalp. Also clay tends to pull out any impurities and any oil. So if you've got a really oily scalp, you tend to find that you've got a lot of product buildup. Then a clay could be good for you, especially a water-based clay um who can use a clay. Anyone can use a clay. I know from mamfromself.com if you've not been on my website seriously. Where have you been loads and loads of products? I think we've got about 200 products on there. Now could even be more. You just go down the left you're on desktop or hit the top if you're on mobile, and you can search the type of products you want. You can also look at like mats. You can look at the type of hold you want and it'll just help you go in there and you can jump around and find the perfect thing for you. Um but clays have got some of the highest rating on my website from me and also from you guys - and this is a really high rated product stuff by kevin murphy - stop by sheer revival. If you're new to hair products, then you have come to the right place. This is a world that has loads and loads of things going on. A lot of the people on this channel know their stuff too. So ask your questions and we will be able to help you but clay great products at ben tonight, carolyn, a really good kind of for conditioning the hair and very versatile okay. Next, i'm gon na give you the type that i love um a paste. Pastes are i'm gon na show you. This is sheer revivals northern lights, one of my absolute favorite pace, ah five star product and i'm pretty sure in the man for himself holy grail pastes, tend to be uh thicker than a cream. So a cream is really for sort of light, holds and so thicker than a cream, but less thick than a clay, and they are hybrid products. So you're going to have lots of different things in there, which tend to be in other types of products. You might have clay properties like kaolinite, you might have um oil. You might have beeswax, so you're going to have various things which go together and but what i love about our paste, we're going to say clay there is that they're really really versatile. You can kind of scale up in terms the hold again. You can scale up on the shine they do tend to be. I should say natural to low shine, so more matte, so you've got matte natural and then gloss the pomades are in that gloss. World clay tends to be around more like the matte to the natural and so does paste, but that's what you're going to get there looser hold in terms of um sort of finish, but really great. If you've got um like i love it, i've got very fine. Hair, i use a little bit of pre-styler i'll i'll link the thickening one up there, i'm all about the thickening product and then i'll use a little bit of paste, warmed up into the hands and work through. And it's going to give a loose, malleable sort of hold and finish if you've got curly, hair or you've got slight waves, then a little bit of this into the hands and kind of piece at it or scrunch it. It'S just going to make more in terms of definition, so pastes are amazing and again there will be a dedicated video on pastes and i'll. Tell you about my five favorites, the final type of product that i wanted to talk to you about in this video is powders. Now i was on uh the community tab on youtube on here, and i asked you guys your favorite types of hair product. I asked you about pomades clays, paste, uh powder waxes, i'm sure i gave you another one and - and this was fairly low down, but don't go sleeping on powders. Powders are fantastic and what makes a powder a powder kind of obvious it's this powdery stuff, and this is because they tend to have don't do that in front of a camera rubbing they tend to have silica silicate salivate. I mean try and pronounce it i'll pop. It on the screen, but essentially this tends to give rougher sort of particles. So it's going to make the hair look far more textured. This is everywhere: it's going to look like. I'Ve got dandruff at the end of this um, so you get lots of different products, but they all tend to have that base ingredient. What'S great about powders. Is the texture? Is the texture? It'S the movement. It'S the height. Some of them can be a little bit stickier and so so that they do give the hair a bit of volume. You can really piece stuff in you can work these with other types of products. So if you've got a favorite clay or a favorite paste, but you want a bit more texture in that, i would say: grab a bit of your powder and just dash it into that product, work it in and then style so you've got all the goodness of The products you love, but with more texture and movement, and this is a slightly more expensive one - kevin murphy powder pop. It'S fantastic, though, absolutely love this, but cheaper brands like v05, also do a good one, and although we see such differences in a luxury um, i say luxury a more sort of premium clay versus a real budget, one with powders. We don't so much because they do have that base ingredient, but i love a powder we will be talking about powders and, if there's any other type of hair products that you want to know about, maybe you want to know about waxes. I can certainly take a look at it, and but thank you very much for watching this has really been a whistle stop to it. Ask any questions and also head to mamfromself.com that is going to help you filter, check, jump around the site and also ask any questions, but if you still knew this you'd still not press subscribe, then i've got this all on my face. You'Re going to press subscribe right now, the button is just there, there's, also more video suggestions down there serving and watch them and head to the product page of the manufic.com there and i'll give you the full playlist for this full series and anything else in the Cards up there until my next new video, bye-bye

Robin James: Hope you enjoy this! Has anyone seen all 6 episodes!?

Frank Castle: So many Youtubers these days talking about hair and products (hell you even have Bluuman trying to make a comeback). However when it comes to hair and knowledge absolutely no one one gets close to Robin, you sir are in my opinion the absolute best YouTube has to offer! Cheers from Florida

M T: Been looking forward to this. I messed around with the Morrocanoil Texture Clay and loved it so far! I‘m excited for episode 7 and learning more about Clay :)

fussballfreak1: Keep on going Robin. Still great content and absolute unreacheable knowledge for hair Products. Stay healthy!

POBGEE: Hey Robin! Watched one of your routine videos the other night. How do you keep your hair so healthy after applying so many products (pre-stylers, stylers, hairspray/powder)? My scalp always feels very icky and itchy whenever I use the same routine. Love your videos and keep up the great work!

Seth Blue: Love the videos! I'm thrilled I found you! I am absolutely in love with Shear Revival NL and AG! You can't go wrong with anything from that brewer.

BFCMAN: I have very thin and fine hair (thanks to my mother) and I was relieved to watch one of your videos and hear you deal with the same thing. Totally will use every drop of info from you.

Nicholas Taylor: Shear Revival Northern Lights is an absolute god-tier product. I've tried loads of hair products and I'm still yet to find anything as good as it. For anyone with fine, straight hair that tends to lack volume, give it a try.

ajazman: Hey thank you so much for the timestamps and all I've always had such dense and unmanageable hair that my hair always goes back to falling on my forehead even after I use a bunch of American Crew Fiber This video is like my starting point of learning what I can use (ideally matte so I'm thinking clays or pastes) I was going to default to the gel my barber uses but after reading some men's fashion stuff people have said gel has fallen out and fibers and such are in... it's all so much info and I just need something super strong lol. Appreciate the informative vid

ZZWild: I tend to use a paste most of the time because I have long hair. Gives it a bit of structure without making it heavy. My hair is rather thick and coarse, and the paste also helps with taming any frizz I might be having. Also combo that with some coconut oil after washing for a bit of natural shine and protection from the elements, perfection.

Gregory Patrick: Another awesome video Robin! Your hair looks really good in this one, I love the little wisp/strand that keeps falling in front of your face, trying to do something similar with my hair. Mind if I ask what products you have in in this video? Thank you!

Jennifer Mellem-Teegarden: I'm new to your channel and learned so much just from this video. Would you consider making a video discussing the basics for male grooming, geared toward tweens/early teenagers? I feel clueless trying to guide my son as he gets closer to being a teenager.

Christopher Edwards: Been using blue/red ruezel for years. My length has gotten longer and my 90s centre part is trying to make a comeback half way through my workday. Thanks for the video, I'll have to check out the site today.

Barry: loved the video Robin, sometimes i walk into boots and feel completely overwhelmed by hair products. This has helped loads. Cheers!

dieselunwinding: I used the Moroccanoil clay for a few weeks and I had problems washing the build up out then my hair started falling out. This was the only product I switched from my routine. I figured the problem was the clay. Taking a closer look with a microscope with my barber the residue was off the charts. Today I buzzed all my hair to start fresh with a nioxin microdermabrasion. I’m pretty bombed out about it, at this point I had been growing my hair for almost a year. :(

TE S: I'm watching this video because I just watched a video of Bjorn Borg and I was impressed with how well he has aged and how great his hair looked. I keep my hair short because as it gets longer, the wind blow it all over my head. I'm going to try the clay paste so I can grow my hair just a bit longer. Thanks for the video.

BBr66: I appreciate these informative videos that help me make the decisions that make my hair look it's best.

HeyDanHay: Clays!! I have been using Hanz De Fuko's Claymation for my thick medium length hair. I am wondering what kind of pre styler and hair comb, and finishing spray you would recommend to pair with this product. I typically go with a quif at the front and thats it. I want my hair style to last the entire day without much movement. I am trying to make sure my hair routine is perfect because I have a big wedding coming up!! thank you

Matt Bell: I tried Moroccanoil texture clay but was disappointed - it doesn't feel nice in my hair, I never get good hold and I really dislike the smell. I usually use Hanz De Fuko claymation but I fancy a change, my hair is approaching a similar length to Robin's in this video at the moment (not quite as long yet). Anyone have any suggestions?

Joe R: Thanks for this vid. I have super thick hair, and am trying to grow it out for the first time. I was about to order some pomade, but I don't want to add any sheen to it. Thanks to this, it looks like I would need some paste instead.

Sudesh Waran: Powders are great imo, I love them its easy to use and easy to style the hair, I have a very soft hair and I get lots of compliments for it, my girlfriend loves touching and going through my hair so whenever i use a hair product it sometimes tend to get sticky, so i switched to hair powders and its way better for me

Bil Billy: Bro.. every time I get my haircut when he’s done he styles my hair and it honestly looks 10/10. The next morning when after my shower I blow dry my hair and take every step he does while styling my hair and I swear at best I can get to look maybe 70 percent as well as when he does it. I have very thick hair but can’t produce the volume he does.. so im ordering that first pomade product you shared right now fingers crossed this works, very good video thank you!

SpaghettiMonster: Hey Robin.. Question: If you were to comb your hair (with a wide tooth comb), how many hairs would you lose do you think? I just combed my similar length hair as yours, and i pulled out maybe 30+ hairs from the comb. Think thats normal? Male/26yo

treetoon: Moroccanoil Clay and Triumph & Disaster Coltrane Clay are my two favorites, depending on if I want bentonite or kaolin :7

Fairex: My hair is thick, relatively straight and the main problem I run into is it starts to clump up and become oily after a while. I'm going for a medium length hairstyle, what product would you recommend? It would be greatly appreciated if you could point me to a specific brand especially. Thanks for this great video!

aidano: Male, 20. My hair gets uncontrollably thick meaning I need to top up my bangs + fade every 10 days. Wondering how to manage the thickness by flattening my hair? I always see products to increase volume but I need the opposite without the shiny-greasy look. Would clay or paste be best for me? Combined with a leave in argon oil conditioner to reduce some of the weight.

royai91l: Hi Robin, thank you for the video. what kind of product would you recommend for someone with thinning and dry hair (mostly in the front of the skull) but with an oily skull?

Mogleyo069: I've been using reuzel matte clay for a few years, but my barber used a power along with the clay and I liked the look. But it was hard to see how it was done. Can I use the powder to create lift and then lock it in with the clay? Or do I need to reverse the order?

Brian Kop: Love firsthand supply clay pomade and cavalier clay by Blumaan because they both give me a strong hold without fail with my thick hair.

rajiv sewnandan: I've tried Lsb powder and I liked it. I would like to try a curly low fade, would clay be my best option for styling or perhaps sea salt spray? I have mild curls

JFbreaks: Hi Robin! I have to say, I absolutely love your videos. Just ordered myself some of the Slick Gorilla Powder after watching your review. Also I have to say, I see a strong likeliness to Mick Jagger in you. Awesome stuff mate!

Juno: Im new to hair products, I'm kind of tired of having very frizzy hair that looks messy, my hair is also a little thick and very dark. From what little hair products I have used (hair oil), my hair does tend to look better with a little bit of shine, not like hair gel or pomade kind of shine but like a natural shine. If I'm looking to control my frizz with a natural looking shine which hair product should I buy?

Ben Rosenbaum: Hey Robin! I absolutely love your videos. Seriously the best on youtube by far. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for good products for my hair that are either fragrance free or have a very mild fragrance, as I have a rather high sensitivity to them (like the Moroccan Texture Clay for example). In terms of my hair type, it's fine, on the thinner side, long (slightly above shoulder length), and is 2A (on the straighter side). Any and all advice would be much much appreciated! Thanks so much! :)

Michael Guider: What would be a good hair product for someone with wavy hair who needs strong hold while working? When my hair was super long I had to use gel to hold down all the flyaways, but I’ve recently got my hair cut and I don’t want my hair to be rock hard all the time anymore, unless that’s the only thing that will truly work…

Michael H.: Love this series. Thank you Robin.

Patrick: I just went to my barber yesterday and I like giving myself hair a look where I can slick it all the way back and/or I can give the front different styles I mostly have thick hair and I want to make it look more straight as my hair tends to stay on the thicker side which would you recommend I should use?

Griffin Miller: I’ve used Crew Fiber for years and really want to try something new. Would you recommend shear revival paste then? Feel like crew can almost make my hair too dry/matte

nutmalone: Clays and blumaans pomade are my favourite hair products, and my moroccanoil clay is arriving tomorrow, cant wait to try it out!

Lumo Quest: Robin, thank you so much for this - I have been looking for videos to help me with my thin hair and the advice you offer is so useful... anyway, time to go and watch the other episodes haha, thanks Robin :)

Jacqueline: Much like the many. many decades that Men had no idea what took Women so long to get ready-- I always said.. If it were for you, be flattered! Many of us without Brothers are now curious as to what goes into Mens grooming. (Thank heavens it does now-- it used to be simply a shower, maybe a shave.) Thank you for the peak on the inside!

Seb_: How does sweating affect each type of these products? My hair never seems to last when I exercise or last throughout the day

Sean: Hey rob, thoughts on Nioxin thickening tonic? just curious how it compares to Label M!

Jozef Furman: Hello Robin. During pandemic i grew a pretty long hair which need some styling with/and to full man bun. I tried pastes ... very disappointed. Absolutely product range not for me. Very greasy, very sticky, hard feel on scalp and looks disgusting by my standards. Than i tried Clay. I did not know nothing about these kind of products or cosmetic products for men at all ! Your channel was first for me to learn. I bought FirstHand Clay Pomade, Moroccanoil Texture Clay, Dapper Dan Ultra Matte Clay an budget Schwarzkopf Got2B Phenomenal Texturizing Clay. Got2B very dissapointed - no hold at all, i needed to user very much of a product and it is sticky like crazy ! FirstHand Clay Pomade 4/5 by me, but i really hate that smell it is pretty "exotic and fruity" and unbelievable strong. But my point : MOROCCANOIL TEXTURE CLAY !!! Omg .. i thought there is no product for my thick, long and very curly hair to work with. This one is. Incredible smell by my standard, i need to use very small amount of product, very easy to work with and my hair looks great ! I learned it is much better for long and curly hair work with this product on damp hair, than it is like miracle. I do not want anything else now and this is thanks to you. Great job and again thank you :-)

Mary Kay Holland: You’re the best, thank you for all your time-saving research! And, I could listen to your voice all day!

Nikolai Lee: Hey there! I see a lot of recommendations for thin hair, but what would you recommend for thick hair? I’m currently growing it out again so it is a bit hard to tame. It’s slightly shorter than your hairstyle in this video currently. Thanks!

Alex Bowell: Hi robin great video! Could you please cover mousses? Also what products work well to apply to wet hair and then blow dry please

Elitte Hassan: What do you recommend for very straight, thin, long hair (shoulder length)?

Alyssa Jost: My husband have a medium to thick hair with good volume, a little curly when it grows, he hates gel because it makes his hair hard and flaky, I was trying to look for something to substitute, and something that gives a more natural look to his hair without thickening or making it too shiny, what do you recommend???

darion naimi: Just stopping by but damn. Your vid’s are solid and informational. Great transitions into ur display shots and stuff. Seems like you’re very knowledgeable on the topic

Haider Iqbal: I have thick oily hair, and a slicked back hairstyle. So which product would you recommend? Thanks.

Don Thishal Wirasinha: Heyyy! I'm new here and got a question. What hair product(s) would you suggest for an everyday basis, I don't want to do too much, yet I still want to look like I put in some effort and I want it to be good for my hair since its likely to be used everyday rather than occasionally? (I got thick, longish hair w an oily scalp) and I like the natural wet look I never know which products to use, hence I'm on your channel

Eliseo: I thought I’d take Robin up on his suggestion to leave my question here in the comments. I need advice on what products and or procedures for a hard part combover hair cut. I’d like to have my hair at least somewhat stay in the hairstyle throughout the day but I don’t want shine or super hard/rigid hold, which is almost always what happens with any pomade or fiber I use. I have thick unruly hair and don’t know quite how to tame it. Thank you!

John Olivo: What would be best for me? I have thick short hair at the moment. Curly as well. I don’t want my hair curly, I’m trying to go with the new styles with the front of the hair high and shorter in the back.

Mark Coronel: Can you do a video on “Putty’s” Robin? That would be awesome! Appreciate the content you upload !

JITTERS_XP: Yooo as a trans masc person this is so helpful, recently got a very short cut and I want to experiment with my new hair, subbing to you to learn more!!

Juvenal Pineda: I had this thought in my mind! Thank you for making this video Robin

Darren Clarke: You should make a video on the best types of powder, paste, clay etc.

SL1200MK: Could you make a video on assembling small freshen up kit for work? What should be included etc. =)

Crespo Greek: thanks for the info, its been almost a year now that i watch ur videos before buying products.. once i had a pomade, unknown brand , had an orangy scent and i was introduced to hair product world, ever since then i cant fint the perfect product for me..

Svilen Penev: My hair feels tangly after using Moroccan oil texture clay :( I have thick wavy hair 4 inch on top and 2 sides. I don’t why but pomades and sea salt sprays work for me only.

@islamquranandsunnah: @Robin James hey mate, what would you recommend for beards? im was thinking the beard balms etc might be a bit gimmicky where you can potentially get hair products for cheaper

PapaFranku: I remember watching the previous version, first video of yours I watched. Glad to still be watching after a year!

cerealkiller195: NO joke I subscribed to your channel a few days ago on your Tom Ford Fragrance video, then I watched your restyled video (which was AMAZING). Today on a lazy sunday i was browsing a few topics and without looking I keep clicking on your videos. Thank you for all the great videos!

Andy Li: Hey! Asian here. I just recently started styling my hair but I'm not sure what kind of product I'm suppose to be using. I have thin hair and I have something similar to a two block haircut. Currently going for a 3-7 side part. Could someone recommend types of products for me?

Vega Lyra: Robin i cant stand my hair after i wash and condition it. Its really soft but the its really "poofy" and just sits awkwardly on my head if you know what i mean. But after a few days of not washing, it becomes more matted but not in a greasy way and looks alot better and i can style it better w/o any products, do you have any recommendations on what to use to make my hair look like it hasnt been washed in a few days even tho its just been washed?

Kali: I know this channel is geared towards men but I’m a woman who has fine hair and this information is very helpful! Any clay recommendations for thickness??

Tommaso: Hi Robin, I'm totally new to this kind of stuff. Thanks to you I'm learning something new. I bought a powder to increase the volume and make my short hair look more messy, it work but it also dry out my hair and I don't like it. Could you please suggest something that gives the same result but keep my hair soft? Should be water based and matt finish.

Myrlon Ortell: Any advice on a product to use on hair you want curled especially thin hair? I am in the process of using a product you suggested for progressive thinning

callum blake: Hey man, just wanted to ask ur opinion on what is the best product to define layers in the hair

JJr: No matter what I use I can’t get my hair to stay back even thought it’s not sue or long. Any suggestions?

AYAAN SHAIKH: Robin , are u planning for a whole room for products ? Just asking

Adadinat: I don’t know why but I got the feeling that a night out with this guy would be hell of fun

Hunter Costello: Currently getting hair cut and styled similar to Chris hemsworths current style and wondering which product would be best to achieve his current look?

Wilderness Worthy: I’m needing a product to help style me hair. I’m wanting to do a side part. Here’s the deal- I’ve got an identical cow lick on both sides of my head right where the part goes.
