Is The Natural Hair Community Dying #Natural #Naturalhair

Hey guys, in this video i just wanted to get candid about whats going on in the natural hair community!

What'S up guys, it's dewan aka curly guy here and i am boo, boo, boo boo back with another video. I know um i've been off the scene for a little bit, but honestly, i've just been feeling really uninspired by the natural hair community and that's what this video today is about. So let's talk about it, okay, guys so before i even jump into it. I'M going to go ahead and let you guys know that i do have some of these uh bohemian braids uh, whatever you want to call them a lot of people, call them bohemian braids. So that's what i call them um and i actually did just refresh them - and this is like my summer style for the rest of summer. I'Ll probably be rocking this more so than even wash and go's, because it's so convenient it's so easy to keep up with, and it looks good so i'm just going to come close and show you guys what they look like now. My hair is still wet right. Now because i did just refresh them, but i love the aesthetic that this hairstyle gives it's just a gifts for me and i'll go ahead, and let you guys know what i did when i done them as well as refresh them. All i did was you know, of course, part of my house and braided. I do have a reel on my instagram, showing you guys exactly how to do this style. So if you want to see that then go check it out, i don't think i'm going to film a whole youtube video about it, because a lot of people already have. But anyway i just used my curl enhancer smoothie. As my moisturizer, of course, i shampooed and conditioned my hair, i let it air dry most of the way, because for this type of style i didn't want to braid on soaking wet hair. You can do that. I just chose not to, and then i applied the shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie all over and then all i did was proceeded to braid and i used eco styler for my braids and then once all of my hair was braided. I went through and defined each strand with the eco styler gel, and then i just let my hair dry to refresh i've been basically doing the same thing. Just rinsing. My hair, which i did just film. A video that'll also be an instagram reel about how i refresh these so stay tuned for that, but i really been loving as long as i've been having braids in this royal oil scalp elixir by head and shoulders. I really love that my scalp has not itched me one time since i've been using this, so i'm pretty impressed it does contain periphery and zinc in it, which is an anti-dandruff treatment. I don't really struggle with dandruff, but i was having a little inflammation on my scalp um about three weeks ago and this has really helped with that. So i'm not experiencing any of those symptoms and i do attribute it to this product. So, if you're in the market - and you have dandruff or anything, definitely go check out this product, if nothing else and of course i used just a denman to define those curls, and i also left some curl out on the end um. I didn't braid all the way to the end, just to give it that more boho effect, but anyway moving forward, let's go ahead and get into what this video is about is about, and the topic is, is the natural hair community dying? I personally feel like the natural hair community is not what it used to be yeah. It'S not just that. I feel that way. The natural hair community is not what it used to be. I mean i look at other influences, much larger influences than myself and their views have drastically decreased, like people just aren't consuming natural hair content. The way they used to at least here on youtube. I know since tiktok has come around it - has taken everything by storm. I know a lot of people are still posting instagram reels, mainly myself, and just to keep up with that, because instagram is what we know and youtube was what we knew and some people are having a hard time, adapting the tick tock i dabble in tic toc, But i don't use it as a social media form of income, not really not yet anyway um, i don't know if i will even i'm okay with just using instagram, predominantly for income, and then you guys also know. Of course, i am a full-time nurse, which is why this style has been so convenient. It'S so convenient at work. I can just pull it back, it's not like. I have a lot of hair and i do have last week i did have a color patient, so i definitely was wearing like an n95 and it's just more convenient to put this on with the n95 um. But that's not at him or there. The natural community people just aren't consuming the goods anymore, people just don't sit down and watch. I guess the attention span has shifted people really i mean some people are don't get me wrong. I still get probably about the same amount of views that i was getting here on youtube um, but i've never really gotten like thousands and thousands and thousands of views. It has been my consistent audience for a few years now um, but i noticed a lot of other influencers are shifting to other platforms because they're not getting the views that they used to get people just aren't consuming 10 minute plus videos like they used to um, Especially in the natural hair realm, it just isn't what it used to be, and i understand there is a shift, but my issue with the social media platforms is: when will it be enough um, because i was just watching um curly chris shout out to her. I love watching her videos um, and i was just watching her videos the other day and in one of her videos she just reached. I think a hundred thousand here on youtube and recently on instagram as well, and she was like basically saying once i get to a hundred thousand on tick tock, that's it, but i just feel like what's gon na come next, like what's gon na come next, i Am not using tic toc to promote i just post content that i like to post. I have a mixture of like you know, um, like the viral type of content that i post as well as um lifestyle, stuff, skincare hair care. All of that more professionally edited videos, and my my tic toc - is a mixture of both. I don't really use it again as a marketing tool. I guess it kind of does market on its own, but i don't use it for that purpose. I use it for entertainment and that's what i like to do, um, but as far as youtube, i just haven't been feeling the motivation and i think it is because people just aren't watching people aren't really subscribing. I know i've been at like 60. I think i'm right at 61, 000 um and i also am on a road to get to a hundred thousand, but people just aren't subscribing, and i know some of that is my fault. Some of it is the inconsistency just because i don't know it's kind of a synergistic effect like a cause and effect. If i don't get the engagement, then i don't feel the motivation to post, even though i like posting, and especially with my job, you guys know, i am a travel nurse, so traveling around makes it a little bit more difficult to commit that time to filming content. If people aren't going to watch um and i do know - i have those loyal subscribers that have been here since day, one and that still watch and still comment and still like and all that, but on social media. If you get to a point where you're not growing or you feel stagnant, it just kind of feels like redundant to be making content. If that makes sense, i mean, of course i want to make content for my regular viewers to see, but i can also do that on instagram and make reals that take less time and not that it's about the money. But i make more money off of a shorter amount or a smaller piece of content. So um that's been my main issue. Also, there hasn't been a lot of stuff for me to do in the natural community like how many walks and goals can i do. How many twist outs can i do how many styles can i do like that? We haven't seen how many products can i review that we haven't seen and honestly guys company send me product and i haven't even been using a lot of product just because i've been keeping my routine very minimal with the travel. I try to keep like about four products in rotation as far as shampoo and conditioners, and then i have only been using as of late. The shea moisture curl enhances smoothie for moisture, and then i've been alternating between wet line and eco styler gel. For definition, that's why this style has been so convenient, because i can literally just rinse my hair in the shower use conditioner. If i'm on that day, where i don't need the shampoo, i can just condition my hair, throw in a deep conditioner for about five to ten minutes, rinse that out put in some more curl enhancing smoothie and then top it off with my gel of choice and That has just been so easy and convenient for me. That'S why i like this style, but again i'm trying to keep this video under 10 minutes, even because i just feel like the algorithm is not pushing videos that are more than 10 minutes just because it's trying to move away. I know they're doing youtube short videos. Uh, i feel, like every platform is doing everything they can to keep up with tick-tock um but yeah. I just wanted to get on here and get you guys feedback. Definitely let me know down below in the comments. What do you think about the natural hair community? Is it dying? Is it dead? Can we come back from this? Are you guys still watching? Just let me know your opinions. I would love to hear them and also give me some ideas of videos that you guys would like to see from me content, even if it's lifestyle, if it's about nursing whatever that may be and yeah um, just remember guys if you can't keep it curly, keep It classy and i'll see you in my next one

Natural curl Girl: It most certainly is. Wigs and braids are winning right now. Plus the natural hair community failed us. For one, we should have NEVER let white brands and people in on what was meant for US. The capitalized and got gone! Put naturals like tracie Ellis ross on their covers thinking they were marketing but they weren’t!!! This movement was started by type 4 natural, and seeing tracie Ellis Ross and type 2c and 3A naturals be the face of the natural community was a smack in the face. This is what I got from what I’ve been reading about it.

Akeya Johnson: The natural hair community will never die... I feel like through the movement we all healed and broke generational curses that are attached to our hair. But as far as content goes we have done it all and after years of doing natural hair videos you run out of content. Alot of those channels literally just turned into product review channels... but if you look around look at how many black women are embracing natural hair.... you hardly ever see a relaxer these days...

ItsKashima: the creators were here... the brands came in late, wanted free promo/paid poorly for the most part and fed into texturism and favoured creators with looser curls. the natural hair girlies divested. i believe this also fed into the lack of creativity in away that made us bored of the content. The fast paced content also shortened the longevity. etc... lol

Perkins Professional: Since our hair is versatile, we tend to change styles after a period of time. So, the hype has died down and the lessons are learned. Only the die hearts are still here, like YOU!

Yoo-Ah: I have noticed that a lot of natural hair content creators have been shifting towards lifestyle videos and vlogs, in favor of just hair videos. I have definitely noticed that a lot of them aren't uploading as consistently either. But like you said- things are changing with what's popular and there's only so many wash day/twist out videos that you can do. I do always appreciate seeing your face on my subscription page though. I hope life has been treating you well, and thank you for all that you do. ❤️

Ornette J: I can’t tell you how much a appreciate you. As for me, I’m fairly new to the natural hair community. I did the big chop just over a year ago and I hated my hair. I didn’t know how/what to do with it to make it pretty like other’s. I started following you, and honestly some others as well, and through trial and era, I FOUND MY THING! Now my hair has l grown tremendously and I get compliments everywhere I go. You were and still are a big part of that. I love your reviews of various products. You introduced me to some products that I didn’t even know about, like Wet Line, which is now my primary product. I always know when you have a post, it will be informative and full of content. Thank you and blessings to your career.

Shae Poppinkurlzdc: I love watching and making natural hair videos. But I do think times have changed with the “I want it now” generation which puts Tik Tok and IG Reels in the forefront of YT Either way I’ll be here watching. I love a good hair video from YT ☺️

Breana Hanna: With the natural hair it’s definitely a number of things causing the decline Corona starting and everyone not being able to go outside so no use of doing hair a lot, tik tok attention span and it being the new hit app, inflation and cost of products- not everyone wants to spend that much on products, most brands products not being something magical to keep the consumers, and overall just growth with their hair journey. We know what works for us and don’t subscribe to the natural hair rules anymore. But I always have loved your videos as well as others but mostly hair influencers are phasing into other things

Madison Palmer: I think it is. I think that when the panini started and people had to adjust their lifestyles and work changed daily maintenance became less popular. It also doesn’t help that the community was messy for a bit and became very wavy hair focused

Roses & Peonies: I would like to see you try ayurvedic haircare. But, yeah it seems like everyone is doing whatever with their hair now that the natural trend is dying down. Sending you love from California

Donna Cashman: Like several folks commented here, a great deal of the drop off you are experiencing is because the younger folks, (I'm going on 68 so errybody younger tjan me! Lol!) have only ever experienced INSTANT gratification. The attention span and patience level is non-existent! So when Tik Tok came about, that was the draw. Quick, immediate and endless. I find that sad. No one wants to invest time absorbing content of it takes longer than 3 minutes. Why prepare a meal when one can have food brought to their door in less than an hour? I like watching the entire process of yours and other natural hair influencers. And I for one am not in the least interested in how to lay down fake baby hair after a lace wig application...js...

SQueen_ Rob: Still watching and relaxer will never touch my head again in life. So no, natural will never die in this household

Tahjee Tolbert: I would like for you to try the new naturallclub line or canvas beauty growth serum. Im just now getting started on my natural hair journey , I've had natural hair but just started getting into taking care of it more

Jermaine Au Natural: TikTok has taken over!! Attention spans max out at 1:30 - 2minutes. The times are definitely changing and with every new generation it always does. I’m trying to get into TikTok YT it’s really a after thought lol Lifestyle( vlogs seems to be taking over more than anything.

Destined2bGreat: I still watch but alot of creators are vlogging now and I'm not into vlogs. I still watch videos on natural hair especially twist out videos. I haven't gotten to the point where I have mastered my hair so that type of content is helpful to me still.

CTS Diva: I’m definitely still watching you tubes videos … thanks for posting, you been missed…. I miss natural hair videos from our fav influencers, all tho I know tik tok n IG runs the world, me I’m still here watching you tube ♥️

Cynthia Everett: I love your channel I have naturally curly hair and you should keep promoting natural hair you have inspired to keep my natural hair start having guest not all products works for everyone I will be willing to travel to become a guest if possible

Sabrina C: I‘ve been seeing naturals going back to texlaxing or texturizing their hair.

efhawkins19: Dawan, I like to see how you did your boho braids. That's a good look for you.

A. H.: I still use Pinterest to find short video clips for natural hairstyles and hair products. I see quite a few Youtubers on there.

Natural Babydoll: It not the same because people are not giving truthful information. Finding people with honest information about certain hair types is hard.

Blackcubin1: Nothing but facts. The amount of content of natural hair products and style reviews is over saturated. When the community was growing and people wanted to learn the views were significantly higher. But at this point it’s like what haven’t we seen and how many people are consistently doing the same thing. At this point I only watch the same 3-4 channels just to see if they tried a product I am curious about.

Whitney Brown: This is 4 Sure Gonna B so Good CG….

Sharee Minor: Ooooooo it's like a stretched wash n go. The braids keep the shrinkage to a minimum. Clever!

Winfred Forrest: Naturals are going back to cold waves. Its call the Ginnycurl aka texturizer.

LCH Herrarte: Keep posting don’t stop

QuadraWithLove: Your hair looks really kewl like that.

Kellz Willz: I think it’s dying. I personally prefer 12 minutes or less. I skip 30 min videos and I don’t always watch Vlogs… I skip around. So, I did click on this because I saw under 10 minutes

LifeAs JC : maybe you should try and expand your content, life as a rn, weekly vlogs etc, try smt new n see how it goes

Diamond Gilliam: Heyy

nikzad koochesfahani: ♥️ ❤️ Alles sehr schön. Aber zuerst zusammen die Nummern 10 und 1. Eine warmthhh.Online Brünette und eine andere Blondine. Es wäre unfaird, wenn ich 4 wählen würde
