Hi, I'm Athena Padilla owner of nf10 Naturals, I'm just going to quickly show you my favorite tip for enhancing curly hair and then I'm going to demo with my flaxseed cream gel. I want to preface with saying that my nf10 natural hair products have a different consistency and feel to them than other products. You would get at the market so because of that they might take a little bit of practice to get used to kind of the new method of using them. Um with that being said, I've got really great reviews, so I'm not worried there, but I'm gon na show you a little bit about what I mean with that um. So this brings me to the tip that I want to share with you guys as much as the type of product you're putting on your hair is so important, it's actually equally important, or maybe even more important, that you know how to use them right. Give me a like, if you agree, or if you understand, that's really what I want to share with you as this big tip, because a lot of people think that they can just scoop up any products and that they'll magically work for their hair. But they're not going to unless they know how to use them correctly. So let me talk a little bit about my flaxseed cream gel. I have just a little in this white tub today and I'll open this up here in a minute, but normally when it comes to a gel product for your hair, people often will wet their hair first right. That'S usually a good idea a lot of times. If you use too much product you're going to get flaking, especially when it comes to a typical gel that you buy from the market, they have all the extra thickeners in them, and you might not know this. But the reason the gel flakes is because of the gums and powders that are put in there and that actually cause flaking. So um like, for instance, with my carbamer gel or my flaxseed, my hardholed flaxseed gel. It doesn't have any of those thickeners in there, and so they will not flake whatsoever, even if you put them on in high amounts on dry hair. Now, when it comes to the flaxseed cream gel, it does have some thickeners in it, and so you have to know how to use it to make sure you're not getting too much. But with that being said, um, let's, let's kind of get into this here um. I want to make sure you know that you can use this on dry or wet hair, just as long as you know how um and then, when it comes to the specific tip on how to apply the product, I'm going to explain that right now, okay, I've Told everyone on my channel this here before, but I'm going to remind you the three most important steps when you're doing your routine, with your curly hair, smooth, clump and then scrunch right, so you're gon na um, I'm gon na dampen this hair, I'm gon na show You the right way right now, I'm gon na dampen this hair and then I'm gon na make sure it's really smooth, I'm gon na kind of prep, the hair first um. I could use a primer to prep this hair or I can just use water. This hair doesn't necessarily have any leave-in conditioner or anything on it. It'S been a couple days since I have done my hair, so it's pretty much naked hair um and then, when my hair starts to get really wet with just water. I'M gon na go ahead and start smoothing that, by smoothing in this direction, pinching and you know pulling down uh, it gets rid of any little hairs that are crossed or twisted, and it starts to make this ribboning effect right, starting from the top lifting up and Keeping that hair going in the same direction, you can do this with a Denman brush or a fine-tooth comb, but you don't want to forget this smoothing effect. Now, if I had a whole bunch of leave-in conditioner in there, that would go a little bit faster and I wouldn't have to work so much. But right now, like I say, I'm starting with no product, then I'm gon na go right into the flaxseed cream. Gel now this has a nice thick consistency if it has been setting for a while. If I start mixing this up, it will thin up just a little bit as you can see. It still coats very nicely and a little bit of uh flexibility there. Okay, I do not need very much of this product, especially for Just Two curl clumps here that I'm going to be doing well. On this side, I got my eye away from the camera there for a minute. Okay, just a second I'm gon na try really hard not to have to edit this video okay. So let me show you about how much I'm going to use just a little bit just enough to coat on my fingers. My hand was just slightly wet. My hair is quite a bit longer than it used to so. I'M gon na go by feel today, tiny bit more depending on how dry your hair is or what other product you already have on will depend on how much you put on now. This is starting to feel slippery. I'M checking for any rough spots. Um even praying hands can help you in smoothing okay. Now I'm checking to see if it feels just as smooth and slippery all the way down to make sure I don't forget the ends and then I'm going to the next curl all right. So I'm just a little dab on my finger and this is per curl. Now, okay, so you have to think about how much product you would use if this was for your whole head? Okay, so this is what happens a lot of times. People won't Prime their hair correctly. They will forget that leave-in conditioner step um their hair will already be very dry um, meaning it is in need of moisture, so it will suck up more product than what you expect and they might just kind of scrunch and blob the product in they're missing a Lot of areas that need more product. This is what I would consider to be a pretty good helping of product. Okay, it's not globbing off or anything like that, but I can feel it on there and it's nice and smooth. Now, as you can see, my hair looks very straight, so we got to get that curl going coming back right, so some people like to shake when your hair is this long. You can try to kind of do the little lasso technique. You can give it a little bit of a turn at the root, the pirouette technique and then have it just kind of follow through. But basically you got to get that curl coming back, because with that smoothing process it did kind of straighten out the curl right. That makes sense. So don't forget that step! Okay, now I'm not doing ribboning. I could, which would give me a much more defined, really wide curl, but, as you can see that brought the curl back, pretty good, don't forget to scrunch it it's going to bring the curl tightness up even more. I I actually like to make sure it's coiled. In my hand, press it flat against my head - and I feel like that, helps to kind of make the curl more full and then gently bring it down and scrunch you're gon na get a really tight curl pattern from that, especially if I was to diffuse or Pixie diffuse um, but there we go so what I want to show you on the other side, is kind of that um wrong way of doing it right, which is actually going to not encourage as much curl as you want. You may say. Oh, I have too much frizz with the wrong method or, you might say um. I thought I used enough product, but you're really not um. Maybe you didn't really get the hair smooth enough wet enough on this side. Here, I'm going to show you that um. So this is what a lot of people do with normal traditional gels, and it's not going to give you the best results with my flaxseed cream gel. So let me show you the difference. Get that hair wet, maybe just a little bit of raking okay and they might think that's wet enough - seems down right, no smoothing, not gon na. Do any of that. If I was to look up close, there would be little hairs here that were still kind of frizzy Crossing um. I don't have this like over here. I have two big curls and over here I have you know several. This one has little pieces that are pulling off of it, not nearly as much definition is going to happen here, because I don't have the smoothing when this dries. It'S going to naturally have a lot of flyaways and it's it's not going to be as curled. I didn't get the roots as wet or anything I didn't um, you know pull up on the hair. First, I didn't twist The Roots it's going to be more flat, less volume and then, when it comes to adding the product they get the product that they want. I'M gon na try and put about the same amount of product. I did on the other side just so we can have a pretty good comparison um about you know about as much as I used the whole time. So I'm gon na rub this between my fingers. I'M gon na do the little praying hands that a lot of people like to do, and I actually have a little bit of leftover product. So you can see it doesn't thoroughly soak into the hair when you just glaze it over like that, when you don't massage it in and then I'm going to go ahead and scrunch the rest and usually they don't coax their hair. They just kind of grab it and whatever happens happens and they usually over scrunch, and they think that that's going to enhance the curl, you know, but you can see we're gon na get really different results here. Okay, so um, I'm gon na go ahead and diffuse. Both of these and let you guys take a look at how they turn out: okay, um, what we're looking for is less frizz, more definition, more volume and more curl, so I'll be right back all right. I got my handy dandy, Hot Tools, blow dryer and my Universal diffusing attachment. I love this diffuser because it has such a nice wide Bell and the prongs are hidden inside there. They don't stick out really far. This one actually works way better for frizz um. Something like this. Let me show you where the prongs stick way up and the bell just is not deep at all the hair blows all around through here and even blows out when you're diffusing. So this one is a no-go, and this is my favorite one here so before I get started, I want to make sure um. I don't forget this one more thing to tell you, and that is that I'm suspecting that I'm going to get more of a hole or a cast on this side, where I did more smoothing and distributed that product, so well um. So if you are looking for a product that is going to give you more hold or the flaxseed cream gel to provide hold for you, then this is going to do that. For you um this side, I'm suspecting is going to have almost no cast at all. Even though I use the same amount of product guys, it's really interesting right. So, let's see how this turns out and then if we need more hold or control at the end, we can go ahead and add a little bit of a hard hold gel layer, or I can know better the next time, depending on how this works. On my hair and just mix that in next time you know before I get started so there's always a way to fix that and you know: try different things see what works best for your hair type. So here we go, I'm going to use um medium heat. No low heat and high speed, I'm just going to get it positioned up in the Bell to make sure I have less frizz and then I will turn this on, get the roots all the way up. Here we go foreign course if I was to show not good um diffusing techniques. It would be more something like this with the dryer already on and, of course, that would add more more frizz but um we'll do it the same on both sides, I'm trying to kind of test the curl factor for the most part here and the hold Factor. This side, of course, is drying a little bit faster because I didn't get such thick curl clumps, not quite as much water on there um Okay. So I'm gon na blow dry, these just a tiny bit more until they're, completely dry and I'll be right back to show you the results, all right, I'm at a stopping point. Okay, both sides are equally dry and you would not even believe the difference that we've got here. I'M just absolutely excited about this. Of course, it's what I expected okay. So let me explain what we have here when using nf10 Naturals flaxseed cream gel, there's a preferred method to get the most curl enhancement definition that you really want. Okay, that was this side. Obviously, and then, on this side, I used traditional techniques that most people use with a traditional store-bought gel and, as you can see, it doesn't jive very well with my flaxseed cream gel that it it's not going to give you the best results. If you don't use the method that is suggested for my product, okay, does that make sense? Um, of course, you've got some great tips here that should help you with other products that you're trying as well. This is always going to be the way to go here now. Let'S talk about the curl, I mean the the cast The Hold that we have here. Okay, this is what I would call kind of a medium hold. Some of it has scrunched out just ever so slightly because I was diffusing it, but I want to show you this lovely shape that we have here very nice. Okay, my hair is so long right now all right and I did not put as much product on there as I could have um. I put a little bit more on the tips and they're definitely crunchy. Okay. You can see that I have not scrunched this out yet um, so you know you can play with that just a little bit, but that gave you a better idea of how much product you use on this side. I use the same amount of product guys. There'S no crunch or cast whatsoever just going like this completely softens it already and that's it. Um curl shape curl enhancement, really isn't there. These curls are kind of wonky um kind of stringy um, you name it um, there's more frizz in there. It'S not gon na last as long for sure um. These curls right here are going to be just as sharp and perky for the next few days without any problem at all, and they just feel velvety they're glossy glossy and look at the spring and the shine. Okay, this is the way to go to get the best results with my flaxseed cream gel now, if you did want more of a cast, then there's a couple things you can do. Let me just go over that really quick with you. I'Ve got a couple different ways to get a hard hold with my products. You can even get a a mix-in product, either the hard home flax, seed, jelly or my honey drops mix that into any product. You already have at home to make it more hard hold for your own products at home, or you can just get the one that I have um. I could have mixed this into what I was using today or I can just do a light glaze. At the end, this is my flaxseed, I'm sorry, my heart hold flaxseed jelly now, depending on the batch, it may have a thinner or thicker consistency, but that is not gon na change, its Effectiveness as far as hold as concerned. Okay, this version, even though it was made exactly the same way, is quite thin. Okay, you don't need very much you just Glide that on your hands and then a light coating to define those curls back up, okay and then another way for you to get hold to your hair is through my Carver gel that can be customized. This carbonara gel actually has uh how my heart hold ingredients in it. It'S really great for wet frizz and for scrunching curls. I'M doing this Masters technique and all of that and, as you can see, it has a very nice thick, regular gel consistency that you would be used to from a store brand of gel okay. It doesn't drip or run out of your hands and um. This makes a really nice effect, we're scrunching your curls. I prefer to use it kind of at the end of a routine to um spruce up my curls at the end after I've already got other products on there, because this does not have like the highest slip of any product but and see that's bringing some of The curl back on this other side, because it's re-wetting it a little bit see how nice that is for scrunching, oh yeah, and then I can go back and diffuse one more time and these curls will shrink up even more and then wow. Look at see great scrunching gel guys, and then I can diffuse one more time and get even more shrinkage and even more hold, so I'm gon na go ahead and leave it at that. For now I love it.
