Hi, I'm dawn, I'm a stylist and makeup artist in Pensacola Florida, and I want you to welcome my special guest. This is on Ave, my daughter, who's six years old, and today the video I'm doing is a simple, elegant, updo for children. Now I have two girls. One with fine hair, which is just onna, which I know, is a challenge because nothing likes to stay up, not even ponytails, and then I have another daughter which you'll be seeing later. Her name is vera with thicker, coarse hair. So today, with ona we're just gon na do again just a simple, elegant, updo anything good for church to a event or wedding hair, so to get started her hair's pretty fly away and in order to be able to manage it better and keep it. I'M gon na just spritz it just a very little bit damp as all we need so just take a little spritzer, so we're holding a little pin it it cold, okay and then we're gon na comb. It up just to get those little flyaways down enough and we'll spray it with hairspray, which will keep those down. Don'T know me now another thing, especially fine, hair, the shorter it is the harder it is to keep up so the bottom part that normally falls down. I'M doing a part across the back of her head here, where I did long the occipital bone um, so anything that turning out on it down here, that's gon na fall down when it's up to bending on how high we're gon na do a pretty high right Up top on her right above her crown we're gon na separate that out and a way to keep that up without having to do tons of pins or just look nasty or too much hairspray is we're just gon na put it in braids. Now the shorter the hair is the more braids you're gon na need, so for hers. I i've done it with three today. I'M just gon na do one again we're just gon na spritz it and get it a little bit wet, and then you want her head. Not necessarily upside down but kind of um. Can you stand up turn around on yeah like that and then you're just gon na pull like this and then braid it? You can do three section. Do three different braids, but just today, because her hair is long enough for sake of time, I'm just do one now, if you're a little bit more advanced, you can do a French braid. However, that's gon na take a little bit more from the top of the hair and sets her hair. So fine, we don't want to do that. We don't want to take too much away. Cuz then that'll leave less to work with on top. So just a quick little braid and since her head is forward, it's gon na automatically want to stay sticking up, which is a good thing and I'm just doing a little rubber band. My favorite are the goodies, clear, no stick ones. Unfortunately, I left those at the salon, so I'm just using the goodies classics. These are the black ones, but obviously the lighter hair. You definitely want to use the clear ones. Okay, turn back round. Okay, so now that we have that her hair is still damp, which is perfect, I'm just gon na part off a couple pieces here just so she can have a little bit of fun up front as well, and this is her natural part. You can change that. You could pull it all straight back. We like to work with her natural part. So that's what we're gon na do. I'M just gon na leave that down for a minute and pull the rest back just into a simple ponytail wherever you want the updo to be we're gon na. Do it on her crown because we want it kind of up top. So she can see it because little girls like to see things it could be so pretty in the back, but they don't see it. It'S not the same. So we're just gon na pull this back into it, high ponytail being a little bit damp. It'S gon na help a lot so keep that in mind. I'M gon na turn, heaven I'm gon na pull this up and that's gon na help, keep it from falling down. Thank you. So the braids or braids that we did in the back are pulled into the ponytail top. So then, here I'm just gon na do a braid as well. You can do as many as you want you. A French braid have fun with it. Just for the sake of the video I'm just gon na do one on each side and we're gon na pull it up this way. So that's the way you want the braid to go, because if you braid it down like this, but then pull it up. It'S gon na know where your Bulge right here, okay, so now I have the two braids again, you could do as many as you want as long as you're not pulling too much from the ponytail and then we're just tucking it into the elastic. That'S already around her pony and pulling it through and that'll stay, there's just enough tension through the rubber bands to hold that okay. So now this is where the fun part comes in. We'Re just gon na make sure everything's up and good, and then you just take a section depending on the thickness of her hair, depending on how much you want to do. You'Re gon na take it and twist it once you twist it you're gon na kind of, let it twist around and then we're gon na pin it just like that. Now you want to make sure the bobby pins are closest color to their hair and then with the bobby pin. It goes in like this. The jaggedy side is down, and then you just kind of slide it in right up underneath the ponytail and keep that in place, and then you just do this all around the hair have fun with the directions. How fun is how big, how little you want to make it, but just make sure there's variety of directions and movements with the hair. Okay, I tried once you have all the hair twisted now we're going to play with the shape, but - and this is where the hair pins - not the bobby pins, come in hair cut and then one little trick just bend down one side and that's gon na keep The bobby and the hair pin from just sliding out so now that we have the hair just around we're gon na pull some of it down and kind of place, some of it together and just sliding that hairpin in cuz. We don't want the hair to pinch. We just kind of want it to group together and so then, once you're done put your head down just playing with it moving it, you can pull it spread it out, give it more body, you can push it down, but I know little girls like to see It so a little bit bigger up top the better all we're gon na do is just spray it. I like Sebastien's, shaper fierce. This is a very small travel size that you can get it in big sizes. So you just put it away. You just kind of spray and then smooth it down with your hands, get all those flyaways out, and this is a close-up of what we did on Little Miss on a bag.
