I am straining to think of how this could be a good idea. Hey there guys. Yes, today, I will be using a strainer to diffuse my hair. This is a wavy curly, hair hack. I use that term loosely that is going viral. I see everyone on the Instagrams, the wavy curly Instagrams playing around with this hack. Now it's gained a lot of popularity. However, it has been around for a little while I did some digging myself and found on YouTube that there are videos going back five years of people demoing. This technique, I to be fair, have never tried it, but in the interest of wavy curly hair science, I will be trying it. I do see some downfalls with this like reasons this may not work. One. A diffuser naturally defuses the air, as you dry, your hair, with your hair dryer. That means that it softens the air flow and widens the airflow quite a bit this I don't see slowing down or diffusing the air as effectively as your actual diffuser. Secondly, this is metal, metal gets hot. This is going to be in contact with my hair and as a wavy curly hair person. I try to avoid using a lot of heat on my hair because it's damaging and because my hair is going to be Curly, it's more susceptible to damage, so this is gon na get hot and I'm scared. That being said, I am using safe air practices. I do have a heat protectant in my hair and I will be turning the dryer down we're not going to be using high heat. In fact, I will be using a hair dryer that does not use a lot of heat, so I will be using my curlsmith hair dryer today, as it has the coolest and most even heat of the hair dryers that are currently available to me to use. But before we do that, I will say that I see the Merit in this technique for a couple of reasons, one depending on which strainer you have. This is an eight inch one. I picked up from Walmart. You can kind of like scoop up a ton of curls and really hold them close to your head. I could see how some curl patterns would really like being held in this shape, while they're drying. Secondly, I see this coming in handy if you are traveling and you happen to travel to an Airbnb and realize that you forgot your diffuser and you have to style your hair and there's no other option for you while traveling, and you cannot leave your Airbnb and Go to a store and buy a diffuser like a backup, travel diffuser that will live in your suitcase and there just happens to be a strainer in the Airbnb, your curly hair. You could style your curly hair with the diffuser in the Airbnb. I don't know see. I'M really trying to think of reasons that this is a good idea, I'm not being fair because I haven't tried it yet. So, let's jump right into being fair and testing it alrighty. I have been plopping my hair in my perfect hair care, towel mmm. Actually that doesn't look too bad. I was, I was kind of worried, I'm just giving my hair one more little scrunch, as I would do normally, while diffusing also lately, my hair has not been loving, pixie diffusing, which is very similar to what we're going to be doing today, because, like I'm gon Na pick, it all up blow dry it. What my hair has been enjoying is hover, diffusing and hammock diffusing, where I kind of like Hold My Curls and like hover the diffuser away from my head, not in contact with my head. Okay, I'm just stalling at this point: let's go so what I'm noticing, while I'm diffusing my hair with the strainer, is my hair really isn't blowing around in the strainer like? I was expecting it to. I have watched one or two of these videos, and I have seen the curls just like the blown out of the strainer and mine are kind of staying intact and it's actually holding pretty well. However, I do find that this is incredibly awkward having to hold the strainer and the blow dryer. I can't do both at the same time or I can, but I'm like really having to stretch my arms. I have gotten very used to having the diffuser attached to the blow dryer and only having to handle one tool instead of having to handle two tools while diffusing my hair. Okay, I don't like this. I'M trying I'm trying, but my curl clumps looked pretty cute when I took the block off now we're pretty wonky. There is so much more frizz than normal. I'Ve got these big giant kind of fish hook, curls at the end of my hair. Oh no! No! No! No now, in the interest of fairness, I will say that anytime, you try something new, it does take a few trial and error moments, get it to work best for you, but this is not one of those things that I'm going to be working really hard to Make work better. For me, this is a no guys. This viral hack, I see the thought process. I see why people thought it might work. I think there are too many other options out there. Now that are better than this, I think just about any diffuser. That'S like an actual diffuser would be better than this hack. I know that this hack works great for some people. I don't think it will work for me and I don't see it as being something that I really want to play around with and try and figure out and make work for me, because this was shaping up to be a really good hair day. And I feel, like I borderline screwed it up with this thing, all right guys that is it for this video. Thank you so much for coming along with me and hanging out while we tested something out together. I felt like this was a fun experiment, even though it did not pan out the way. I was hoping that it would. I still enjoy trying out all the stuff and things with my wavy curly hair. Are there any experiments that you think we should do next comment down below? Let me know your thoughts. This is fun. Sometimes we find things that are really really awesome, and sometimes we find things that are a pass all right. Let'S leave that side, shall we as always. If this video was helpful to you, I would greatly appreciate a thumbs up. It does help out with the YouTube algorithm, and it lets me know that the content was actually helpful to you, which is the whole point of why I'm here. I want to be as helpful as humanly possible in your wavy curly hair Journey. As always, I sure hope you are having an absolutely fantastic day and I will talk to you later. Bye, good

Swavy Curly Courtney: Would you try this? What do you think??

Sharrell Kline: I would just like to chime in and say I have curly hair and at one point -- three years ago -- it was almost down to my hips. The best way to dry it was using a strainer, which I had started using five years ago. I would flip my hair over, bend at the waist, and I could get all of my hair into the strainer -- which was not possible with any diffuser on the planet. Not only would even the biggest diffuser fail to fit all of my hair in, but because my hair uncurled was three feet long, in order to get the curls to spiral I would need to bring it all the way up to my head. I would never have used the diffuser standing up with my head up because that is just not the best way to do utilize what it can do. I always used cool air with some shots of warmer air. But as soon as I would feel the warmth to my scalp I would change to cool. Like I said, I used one on a regular basis for almost five years with amazing success and no damage. The only reason I don't continue to use it is because we are retired and permanently traveling, and a strainer doesn't work in my luggage.

Jackie Forbes: The good thing about wavy curly hair is we can dampen our hair and try again with a proper diffuser

Gena Marie: Yep, not for me either lol!

Bridget: When I first started "curly girl" a couple years ago I did it a couple times before I got myself a diffuser lol

Donna Bellew: You didn't scrunch it out to see the final result... you didn't actually give it a fair try...

JuLee Curtner: I saw a “hair hack” where the woman washed only the top half of her head to save time. Her hair was straight, but I’d love to see you try it!

Kristen Saenz: I forgot my diffuser once when I was visiting my parents and I had to wash my hair and they only had a regular hair dryer. I didn't want the hairdryer to blow my hair around so I used the strainer only to hold the ends in the curl shape and set it. Then I hovered to dry without blowing the curls out. I did not put the strainer up to my head with the curls inside. It turned out ok. Not as good as a diffuser but better than nothing or air drying.

Karissa Thatcher: Thank you for making this video! I was curious about it. :)

Brina Milenbach: I didn't see you scrunch out the crunch. You have said not to judge a washday before that. I wanted to see the fluffed out results. Not that I think they would be good, but for curiosity's sake,.

KR: Oh my gosh. I hate this trend so much. Your curl clumps were looking so good before too!

Brief little candle: I thought your hair looked cute and I would’ve liked to see it after you scrunched and fluffed

Sara McIntosh: I thought it was more of a strainer/collander that was supposed to be used rather than a sieve

Andi Naudzunas: I just bought a curling Iron for my already curly hair to soften the curls I hope it was a good idea

Masha Zhurbina: Thank you for the vid! Where can I see the other 2 diffusing techniques that you mention here (besides pixie diff)?

surrendertoflow: Pixie diffusing also can give me wonky curls (I have shorter hair than you and it’s about 2b-2c). I’ve thought about getting an overly big hair meet to “plop” my hair in while diffusing (using an actual diffuser) so it will kind of keep the curls in place almost like hammock style diffusing. I’ve also thought about getting a stand so I can still have some hands free! Have you tried/thought about either of those experiments?

413078291: "This is metal!" - my thought exactly! We'll see how this goes

Charlie Severson: Nope. Not for me. I just bought the Shark hair dryer and the diffuser on that thing is amazing, although I find the heat to be too hot even on low. Anyway, I'll just stick with that.

Cleocatra: Lol Courtney I love the thumbnail I needed that today

Sharyn Shepherd: I would just like to find a really large diffuser!

Caryl Castro: loving your hair short.

Sonia Burgos: One should leave kitchen gadgets in the kitchen...lol

Ashley Dahl: soryy but if you go to an Airbnb I would not use a strainer in their home/apt to do this- even if you wash it, the fact that it's not yours, hair product could get in those tiny holes and it really just grosses me out. If you do this, i'd have one strainer for my hair only- it would stay in my bathroom.
