Fans absolutely love our No-Heat Curl series, and this is Bantu Knot version is one we in our home have been enjoying for many years now! {This knot technique is of African origin and has been by African women and girls for generations.}

Feel free to tag your own photos of this hairstyle with: #CGHBantuKnotCurls

Bantu knots are fabulous to use in combo hairstyles! In fact, you can see other styles in which we have used the Bantu Knots here...

Star Twists: http://youtu.be/NrN2LKuFc-A

The Bun Hawk: http://youtu.be/qfWHYOjpCR4

Each of these Bantu Knot styles leaves gorgeous curls for the next day when you untwist the knots! The curls can last you up to 3-4 days! I find that you really do not have to keep them in all night to achieve great curls... as you get better creating the knots, you can leave them in for only 3-4 hours and receive a great result.

{Most Common Overlooked Mistake: Be sure that you only dampen the hair before twisting the knots... if the hair is too wet, the hair will fall limp when you take our the knots!}

Items Needed: Brush, Rat-tail comb, 10 hair elastics, hairspray and accessory {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 5-7 minutes to create knots, sleep overnight, 5-7 minutes to remove twists and style hair.

-Hey guys. Before we start the regular video, I thought I'd jump on and tell you guys some so exciting news.. So on Saturday at 5:42, AM we officially hit our 500,000th subscriber. And we are so tickled pink about it.? So as a thank you to all of you guys our loyal fans and followers, we will be putting up an extra special video on Wednesday., So make sure and watch for it. Wednesday night and you are going to love it., We'll see you guys, then., Hey everyone.! I'M Mindy from Cute Girls Hairstyles. Today, I'm here with Special K. And we're going to do and no-heat curl tutorial using Bantu knots.. I think the most important thing when doing no-heat curls is the wetness of the hair., So her hair is obviously dry cause. We just let it air dry after her shower., But we're going to have to add a little moisture.. You do not want to start with sopping wet hair., Your hair just won't dry completely, and then it's just going to be like a limp noodle when you're done the next morning.. So we're going to start by --. I'M going to do just a section right here on top., So I don't like to see part lines when I'm done the next morning when the curls come out., So I'm going to take this whole front section. And it really doesn't have to be pretty.. That'S the beauty of these no-heat curls. And then I'm just going to take my spray bottles --. It'S just water, -- and just lightly spritz, her hair.. Now, if your hair is starting from sopping wet, then just let it air dry until it's about half dry. Or if you want to use a blow dryer you can but entirely up to you.. At this point you can choose whether or not to add an elastic.. I like to add an elastic just because my kids are younger and they roll around at night. And this just kind of helps secure it.. But you don't want it to be so tight that it creates this crease line in the hair.. So I'm just going to leave that elastic loose.. You can see that it's loose on her head, so it's not going to hurt her to sleep on it., So I'm going to again just add a little spritz. And then I'm going to twist the hair. And then you're going to take the hair strand. That'S all twisted and just twist it until it makes a little knot on the top of their head.. This is called a Bantu knot. And you can leave some ends. Hanging out. Don't stress out over that either because I actually think a little bit of straight on the end makes the curl seem really natural and nice. OK.. I got to slow down., I'm moving so fast. I can't think. When you get done with your Bantu knot. -- I used another elastic over the top of it again loosely to hold it in place.. Another option would be to secure with bobby pins.. If you're worried about this creating a crease line on the hair, you can just take a bobby pin, -- or two would be better crossed, -- and slide them over the hair., And that will also hold it into place.. But that's whether or not you think you can sleep on it and not have it fall out. It's up to you.! Now, depending on your hair, thickness you're going to decide how many you want. On her hair, I find that five works really well, because, of course, the smaller section that you take is going to create tighter curls., And I don't mine super tight.. I want them kind of loose and soft looking. [ MUSIC PLAYING ] Last one.. The whole thing is really fast and easy. Soak a little bit on that end.. So I think the biggest trick, again just to reiterate, is not to over wet your hair. Over wet's. Never going to curl. It'll just be limp when you take it. Out. OK. We're done., So we've got our little Bantu knots in and ready and we'll see you guys in the morning when we take them out for the beautiful reveal. Good morning, guys., So we're back.. She slept on the Bantu knots and we're ready to take them out.. So we're just going to reverse the process., We're going to just pull those elastics out gently and untwist our curls. And then the next elastic. There we go. And you can see we're going to have lovely curl., I'm going to have her --. You can start separating that one if you want a little bit., [, MUSIC PLAYING, ] And last, but not least., That end. I'm going to have you flip your head upside down. And I'm just going to run my fingers through it to just try to separate out The curl., If I can see that some aren't separating I can just use my fingers. Shake it., But you can see that lovely curl we're already getting. OK. Flip it back up. Voila.. Let'S give you a little part.. You can see, I'm just doing it all. With my fingers., You can use a brush or a comb, but it's just going to pull the curl out more., And I want the curl to be pretty soft still. That way as it loosens. Throughout the day. It still leaves us with a nice looking curl.. I think we had that one laying this way. That looks better. OK. And then once you get to this point, you can decide if you want to just leave them down or if you want to put a headband in.. So I think a cute feather headband on her would look really cute.. We have a tutorial on how to make these. If you don't already have some., You can check it out.. I think it's called Feather Headband.. It'S very cute and very easy. Add a little hairspray where you need to. There. You go. - And you have these soft soft, really pretty beachy waves out of Bantu knots which, like I said perfect for day, two., Wear the fun Bun-Hawk or something day. One then second day, curls. Finished product. And there you go. Hope you guys enjoy., We'll see you later. -Bye., -Softer and looser like that.. Take that piece wrap it over the top wrap it underneath

Queenie1547: Lol, some of you commenting "cultural appropriation" clearly did not read the description box, where she states the African origin of the Bantu knots. CGH (Mindy) also has black children (one boy and one girl). To me, it allows the other daughters to get a better understanding of Sweet Pea's (her black daughter, who is adorable) hair and not alienate her because her hair is different. Does cultural appropriation exist? You bet it does. However, to leave harsh comments to a mom who acknowledges the history behind certain hairstyles and decides to do them on her children (both black and white) is just inappropriate. CGH: please show more hair styles for Sweet Pea's hair and keep on with these styles! Thank you for properly posting the history of this hairstyle. =)

Skye Bhawadeen: So happy she got the name right and gives credit in the description. This is how you do it.

Kendreya Howell: I give her credit for at least calling it bantu knots and not "mini buns".

Saint Sirene: We all know that this is an African hairstyle, but the goal here was to create heatless curls. No one wants heat damage, especially at an early age.

bitofapill: Hey mindy!!! My mom and I wanted to thank you for this ide we tried it last night, today is picture day. I got bouncy beautiful curls and we love I will definately use this more often!!! THANKS MINDY AND GIRLS!!! :D

kevi246: I think the point of this channel is to make hairstyles that pretty much every hair type could try, or at least every race. It's not about "hair styles for black girl" or "hairstyles for white girl" it's Cute Girl Hairstyles. I never even thought about how bantu knots would turn out on non-kinky hair honestly. My 2yo niece is mixed half black half white and these are hair styles i can do for her so that she can have "pretty curly hair like Auntie" or so that she can have her hair like all her friends in preschool. She doesn't understand that our hair types are different, she just knows that regardless of skin color she's got a loving family. Thanks for the video! now i know how this might turn out on her hair and I can tell her "It won't be just like mine, but it'll be really pretty like a princess!" :)

Morgan Daisy: I find it really sad that people are getting so irate about hair. My best friend is Nigerian, and for fun she challenged me to put Bantu knots in my hair. I think we should just celebrate the culture in a way that makes us all happy, and not get too caught up on who is stealing who's culture. I have never once been racist to a black person and I never will right up to the day I die, why don't we teach or younger generations that culture is a beautiful thing to be shared and celebrated? Much love and peace xx

MariaSingerGirl: Tried this for Christmas dinner and i loved it! Easily done in 5 min and looks great in the morning. Looks like wand curls once you play with them. Amazing video!!!

Gabrielle Sonjali: Make smaller, more uniform sections before you make the Bantu knots and it will come out a little better. You can too this with many hair types! I didn't know what these were called for the longest, so I called them "Scary Spice Balls" hahahahaha (Scary Spice from the Spice Girls)

Andrea RObbins: I have very straight hair, and I tried this out last night. It worked amazingly. It's going to be my new go to style for spring/summer. Thank you very much for the idea!!! :)

Char: I came here because I wanted to see how it would turn out on straight hair.  Looks great!!!!

Lilion99: I don't see why people are complaining she gave credit to the origin it came from and called it by it's real name.It should be ok for other races to enjoy different cultures and backgrounds.Just know where it came from and give credit where credit is due.

Crystal Bass: This video has really made my five year old happy. I have naturally straight thin hair and in order for me to have curls i have to get perms and body waves, but that most definately was and is not an option for her. So when she started kindergarten a few weeks ago, it was rather hard to come up with new hairstyles to work with. Being a five year old little girl that wants to be cute and sassy all of the time it seemed that their wasn't many options to work with, but her face just lit up when I took the knots out and she had cute waves. The bashing of another race is very immature and ignorant and for you all as adults to comment on a tutuorial of a child that simply wants to wear her hair curly is absurd. This a great hair style idea for all races regardless of which one invented it.

Iris Locke: Love this look! Especially on your daughter. I really like how it puffs out and gives these big, messy looking curls. They look amazing! I tried them on myself and it didn't turn out as great as I'd hoped they would. But they are amazing

Anesu: thank you for actually calling them bantu knots looks beautiful

Christina Prophet Shorter: It came out really nice! I love the pancake braid too! Great job!

Christin Sheppard: Thanks for this tutorial! I have wavy hair naturally but would like to wake up and have even curls all over without slaving over a hot curling iron! Plus my daughter would as well! Going to try this! Thanks a bunch!

Yocelin Morfin: I did this no heat curl and it actually works thank you ❤️❤️

jackie reinstedler: Thank you!! This looks super easy, no heat, love it!!

anamariacncv: tried it, it worked like a charm, everyone noticed my amazing hair, i felt and looked happy => thank you!! :)

Tejal Shania Kala: AMAZING! I love these curls, never seen them before? But you guys always satisfy my taste for hairstyles, I literally feel so lucky I stumbled upon this channel! All your kids' hair is amazing, your family is so cool and you all just inspire so many people! Lots of love from tejal in nz!! <3 <3 @Cute Girls Hairstyles

Dlayne Vasquez: I love the way these curls came out there so pretty and looked really great on her, can't wait to try these soon!

Mob: love how credit was given in the description <8 well done

CherryAppetite: Bantu is the Language of the Central and South Area in Africa...The hair style is of African origin but ITS OK for others to wear it..Black wear Straight hair ALL the time i dont think whites are knocking the relaxer boxes out of our hands and getting mad when they see our hair straightLOL

tanya latinsky: I tried it and it came out perfect !!!! thank you <3

Jennafer Twilley: Very pretty results! I recommend leaving the first hair tie out next time and just twist from the root. The curls will hold better and be more defined.

DollyDomDom: Beautiful and very interesting ! Had no clue it could work on straight hair also ! Neat!

Emmy Engström: Great way to make beautiful curls <3

Selina Servinis: i love how loose and soft the finished curl looks! i'm definitely going to where this look to school.

Zariah Spence: On a positive note I think this tutorial was great!

Rebecca Gingerich: LOVE THIS! My sister did it last night and it looks amazing. Trying.

drubidoux: Love these beachy curls... I am obsessed with these no-heat tutorials!!

Najma: this woman is so talented!!! I love how you use different methods to achieve a wide variety of hairstyles. keep up the great work! amazing results and beautiful daughter. Ps-your hair is gorgeous too

Mary Thomas: I did Bantu knots on my daughter's hair last night. I rope braided each section first then did the knot. It is adorable this morning. Looks similar to spiral curls. Definitely adding this to our favorite hairstyles.

Crafted by: I love your videos. I just watched the Bantu knot video and I am going to try it on my granddaughter, who wants curly hair for a day. Thank you for all of your great videos. Jeanette

FYTJ: I am appalled at the racism in the comments. Because yeah telling a little girl curls don't look good on her because she isn't black is being racist. And stupid as a) there's plenty of white girls with curls and b) she looks gorgeous with this hairstyle. It's JUST a hairstyle! You don't see white girls commenting on black girls' videos telling them to stay away from straight hair, do you? Some of the comments here are just pathetic. It's as if the Chinese would start complaining about non Chinese people using toothbrushes since they invented them. Or as if the French complained about non French people getting vaccinated since they invented vaccines. Ridiculous! Get over yourselves.

Joana Rebelo: I try this and this is SOO pretty! Love you all!♥

Love Bunny: I love these curls they are really bouncy and crazy. I can't wait to try them out !

Nathalie Ferreira Diamandis: So gorgeous! Both the girl and the curls :)

XxAlexusXx: thank you. i have always want my hair to have curls. this video helped me do that. i love the way my hair turned out. thank you.   :)

D Douglas: the people freaking out about this video are quite pathetic and I'm a black woman and I thought the style was adorable. If anything, we should applaud this lady for thinking out the box and trying a non traditional style on caucasian hair.....so sad and pathetic... So I guess that means all black people or people of color that straighten thier hair for "styling" purposes shouldn't because is the "white" way? Seriously go sit down some place .

Jazz Geter: I do Bantu knots on my hair all the time. Ladies it really does work and you don't have to use a hair tie if you twist tighter, just use a Bobbi pin and it will stay.

Darkshadow: it looks really nice, thats a good heat free way of getting wavy/curly hair.

Amanda Finch: I hope mine comes out like that tomorrow!! Thanks for the idea!!❤️

Ashley Jimenez: Hey Mindy! I'm trying out this method for the first time; always looking for that new easy way to get gorgeous curls! Anyway, I was just wondering what brand/type of elastics you use?

Paulina0o0: I honestly think this hairstyle can look good on everyone anyone can wear any hairstyle and rock it as long as you have the confidence to have or wear that hairstyle and feel comfortable in it :)

Cecily Angel Lent: i love you guys! I'm getting so many ideas for my hair for my senior year at high school. :)

Lou Reed: This is my dream hair! I'm doing this! (Thank you to the Africans who created this)

Sherena Arunachellan: this is so beautiful:)

Reena Verma: Thanks for this tutorial xx I will try this tonight xx cant wait to open it in the morning

J S: I think this turned out well and it "works" perfectly for her hair. She was going for a looser curl and having large bantu knots worked. Lets keep in mind that bantu knots turn out differently for every hair type (be it straight, wavy, curly, coily, or kinky). If she needs tighter culs, then she can always use smaller parts (maybe 12-20 knots instead) with lots of gel and spray before she takes them out.

Jasmine Dempsey: I tried it and it worked really well i will definitely do it again

Marryneu Lu: It looks just amazing *_* . Thanks, Im gonna try this out.

Annabella Gomez: I just love the hairstyle so awesome!

SadieNRyker: omg i love ur amazing hair styles! ive been trying to do them on myself but i wasnt very sucessful because i have shoulder length hair and short bangs

Adrianna Marrongelli: tried it and it work wonderfully my hair is really hard to curl but it was nice and curly i am now on my 5 time!!!!!

Rimsha Khalid: OMG this worked so perfectly thank you soo much I have soo much volume and my hair looks shorter ( my hair is naturally long )

May Hemm: Black, white, brown, purple... anyone should wear their hair however they want, without people telling them they're not black enough, white enough, etc., for the hairstyle. It's freaking ridiculous. I'm Spanish, but I don't go around knocking burritos and tacos out of every non-Latinos hand because they're not Latino enough to eat the food. No, see that's called being "crazy" and it's the same thing as saying someone can't wear their hair a certain way because they're not ethnic enough to do so. Pick your battles people.

Tegan Bredberg: I loved that video I did that and when I went to school all my friends loved my hair :)

julissa m: I love these curls :)

Taylor Ashley: I love this hairstyle!

Shannon G: This turned out so pretty

Ashley Jimenez: Hey Mindy! I'm trying out this method for the first time. I was just wondering what brand/type of elastics you use?

Koriander Yander: GASP! :D You did bantu knots!!! :3 Awesome!

Abbie Sellers: Tried this in my hair worked perfectly the curls were very bouncy and lased for a long time!

Jessica Miller: I did this to my hair last night took the curls out this morning it is now 7:00 clock and still beautiful curls. I will definitley do this again love it!!!!

Ashley Jimenez: Hey Mindy! I'm trying out this method for the first time; always looking for that new easy way to get gorgeous curls! Anyway, I was just wondering what brand/type of elastics you use?

Jane Ashcraft: I love it, You have such a wonderful mom to do these things to your hair she is so creative I love your guys channel cant get enough from it!

Flavi: She's so lucky to have a mom like u!

luxe kitty: It looks gorgeous (:

TheAmericanGirlLove: Did and it turned out WONDERFUL!!!! Thanks CGH

KinksKnotsKurls: I absolutely love bantu knots! However for your hair type you may get better results with using wayyy smaller sections. It will stay in longer reduce frizz and increase curl definition.

Sara Dele: Can't wait to try it tonight :)

Thuy Le: Me, asian with super straight hair and always braid or twist my hair at night to get the "natural heatless curls" the next day. I've been doing the bantu knots for years and had no clue it was a "cultural hairstyle". No one taught me. Yet, today I came across this video and this comment section makes me so dissappointed in the human race. Racists would never understand why. Just sad.

Ari Velazco: LOVE IT!

Lu ki: Gorgeous both, mommy and daughter

Bobbi3: I've been doing this style since I was a kid, though I just learned the proper name for the technique. First, for people with fine hair(like mine) freshly washed hair doesn't work right.2nd or 3rd day"dirty" hair works best. Also, don't wet with water,it will frizz. Oil the ends, brush through, then wet with a spray on product. When dry, pull the knots out ,loosen each curl into 3 curls. After walking around,it will release into a clean finish. I'm white&it works fine,it just won't "grow".The more a dark person scrunches, the larger the hair becomes. Kinda like blooming

Kit: That's really cute! I'm going to try this tonight. I have a Christmas party tomorrow so I hope it comes out looking as nice as it did on your daughter.

Dominique Fortune: Instead of bringing race into this, let's actually focus on the video and realise that her hair looks awesome.

pink sign Okokuku Oniru: it looks so soft and beautiful

Cristina Jerome: Awesome . I never thought to use an elastic . Gonna try it

amayafoxx: **reads five comments, rolls eyes**

tripping_eyes_looking_at_you: Awesome most easiest no heat curls video on YouTube. And affordable going to dollar store for elastic bands. Thank you

kleinRiesin: It's amazing how beautiful you all are.. ❤️
