Best Braids for Heatless Curls or Waves

I'm doing more experimenting with heatless curls using overnight braids. Today, I put three braids to the test: fishtail braid, French braid, and rope twist braid. I dampened each section before braiding and then slept overnight to really set the braids in place. Which braid is your favorite for heatless curls or heatless waves?

Today, I'm testing out which braid produces the best results for heatless, curls, French braid rope twist or fishtail braid. Let'S begin, we have the three sections we have the middle section, which is going to be the French braid. One of the other is going to be there. A rope or a fishtail braid, alright, and I am going to dampen my hair slightly each section guys I haven't braided short, hair and so long. I feel so out of my element right now. French braid is where you take the outer sections and you go over the middle, so it's basically the opposite of a Dutch. Are you kidding me right now, it's hot! This is big. Look at that little ponytail all right! I think next, I'm gon na do a fishtail just because this one's gon na take the longest I've actually never done a fishtail, braid and lik slept with it. I never actually tested out the curl, so I'm really curious. If you have do you like it, what are the results? I guess we'll find out tomorrow, though, I'm just honestly curious, all right, that's as far as this gon na go honestly, not bad right looks pretty good all right, so you see the rope braid it's nice and twisted it's not unraveling. I'M excited to see all three of these or results in which one we like best, which side do you guys think, is gon na look best tomorrow morning, babe, which one do you think is gon na look best he's put his money on the rope twist same Here I'm excited all right: I'm gon na go to bed. Are we ready to see the results? The next morning, cuz, I L actually slept pretty good surprisingly was not painful, doesn't feel sticky all right. Let'S see what this looks like do we look like a hot mess? This don't look better. That looks slightly better. I mean this one has more like a zigzag wave, there's way more definition. Alright, let's move on to the last braid, all right, you guys. So what do we think? Which side looks best war which braid looks best which curls came out the best? Well, these favor results are definitely the French or is that French? No? As a Dutch fishtail braid, it wasn't French. I was going underneath. So it was a Dutch fishtail braid. It just didn't, create as much definition and created, not even the frisk cuz. You contain the frizz, it's just it's just. It looks really inconsistent and the curls look really uneven. Just doesn't look the best in my opinion and then the French braid I actually like the French braid. It reminds me of a Dutch braid, but the French braid. It has a little bit more. It'S a little bit more of like a sharper edge around the curl. I prefer a Dutch braid over this and I like that. The curls are a little bit bigger. I think that actually looked pretty good and then we have the rope twist. I think the rope twist definitely created really nice waves and definitely I'll have to play around with it more just to see which way I wanted to go and all that good stuff. But I think my favorite was the Rope twist results. Really we called it. We thought it was the mirror favorite, honestly, I'm not really hate on this hairstyle. Look at that volume, but still the hair moves very easily. It doesn't look dry, but I do want to do a video for you guys. A lot of you asked the difference between a mousse and a bomb in your hair for braids. So if you guys want to see that video as well - and I was thinking - maybe do more intricate braids like a four strand braid and see what the curls look like there, I think that would be a really cool result. If you guys want to see something like that, but yes, we are gon na get there and we're gon na create the most perfect heatless curls. Ever we are doing little trial and errors, but we're getting closer. You guys we're getting closer. They have a very pretty bag from the very top to the bottom. That'S my opinion, honestly. I would just add some oil to this hairstyle, maybe throw in a couple of different curls with a very tiny curling wand or a curling barrel and yeah. I would just go for it and just rock this hairstyle honestly, throwing like in a little half bun, like I said, I'm not gon na touch my hair now because we're gon na film another video with a hair tool, and I don't want to apply oil to This hair, I'm gon na, apply afterwards, but basically to tone this down to really chill this out just apply a little bit of hair oils, maybe after you put in a little bit of defined curls with a tiny little curling wand and then that's the hairstyle super Easy quick and very effortless, in my opinion, Andres telling me that you can totally see the differences in the curls, as I make my way around, starting from the worst ending with the best. It'S just there's just not much definition happening here and that's the problem which I kind of assumed, but then I just still wanted to see how the results would be with the fishtail braids. So keep that in mind. So, for my experimenting, the best results produced from chunky breeds like a rope twist French twist, not a French twist French braid, a Dutch braid, I'm thinking even like a four strand braid, might produce some really pretty results just because it has a chunkier braid. Here'S in a lot more sections and yeah, that's mine! That'S my discovery. Chunkier braid produce better curls / ways. They just look more defined, there's a lot more curl happening and yeah, and I'm taking a note of that. Let me know which kind of braids work best for you for heatless curls, and why? How do you do them? What do you do to prep them? Do you put any product in there what kind of product you put afterwards to keep the longevity of them with now? You guys think so much for watching. Let me know if you wanted to see those videos that I mentioned in this video and I will see you in the next one very soon bye. You

Marlena k8: Milana, coming from somebody who actually has naturally curly hair, I think the rope twists created the most natural look but the French braid created the kind of curls that all of us girls with natural curls wish we had. LOL BTW I'm totally stealing your hair next time I go to the salon! It's gorgeous!

lauryn cliff: I’ve been doing the ‘rope twists’ almost every night and they look loads better than if I spend 2 hours curling my super thick hair. Definitely recommend for back to school hair. Takes .2 seconds to take out lol

Internal Optometrist: Can we see a side by side of regular French braids and Dutch French braids for overnight heartless curls??

Alyssa s: I've recently tried Dutch and French braids for waves. Put them in fresh out of the shower and left in for several hours. The waves from Dutch braids lasted a few days while the waves from French braids were disappearing the same day. No product was used.

Kalisha J: The rope twist braid is my favorite. I always do individual braids for more definition. I usually use water plus my AG bb cream or their leave-on conditioner. I love heatless styles especially since I cut my hair into a bob.

ChiTownGal: Aww this takes me back! When I was in junior high my sister and I would spend hours braiding my entire head in tiny one inch sections to wake up with super crimpy hair. This was clearly before I knew I could just buy a crimper lol will def have to try the rope braid, that one was my favorite!

Bar Hernan: Yesterday I did it with 3 dutch braids and they turned out beautifully! Next time I'll do only two, as I would prefer bigger waves, but the ones I have now look so good!

Alexa Style Book: It's really cool how you can creat such neat braids for short hair loveee ittt

Marie Conforti: Great video, loved the rope twist the best and the french next.. overall your hair came out so nice and loved the top knot at the end with that little pin! Def gonna try! ❤️

Itsangelhere: I have been doing the rope twist ones for years and it works, especially on my very thick coarse hair

Brie B: This was great! I think I like the French Braid best. Def want more experiments like this!

Vicki H: Yes!! Same here! I’ve been on the search for the perfect heatless curl that I can sleep on, I don’t have all day to wait for my hair to dry and I can’t sleep with hard curlers in my hair. I’ve tried rags and my hair turns out so wacky. Braids have been my favorite so far but they aren’t a super polished look imo they’re perfect for everyday though.

BodaciousBeverly: I do the twisty knots (variation of twisted braids) to get nice curls for my fine, medium-short hair. I love watching your videos; always great ideas!

Friendly Face Painter: I have long hair past my bra strap and I do two rope braids that I try to have sit high and away from the ears. I then wrap this up into a bun and wear that hairstyle for a day, sleep in it, then undo the rope braids and wear the curls the next day. Love the volume and definition it creates.

VM Perkins: Thank you for the video. My daughter has very long thick hair and we are always trying to find different braid techniques to get curls in her hair without using heat. I would love to see videos on balms and other hair braiding techniques. We love your videos.

Emme Fen: I have wavy hair and honestly i love doing twists in my hair. I do multiple 2 or 3 strand twists all over and the results are alway amazing. I can't french braid if my life depended on it.

kristina nik: I always do the second one on my hair (just 2 braids). I love the waves that come out with this technique

Rosa Johnson: Love this video thanks so much for bringing me into the world of short hair! @milabu

Mally Makings: Yessssssss, Milana is BACK! I’ve missed your short hair. I’ve braided my hair for years and then I found twisting. I air dry my hair to about 90% and grab all my hair on top and twist and twist and twist until it’s a twisted “bun” on top of my head and just put a soft band to keep in place. The next morning, I’ll gently let it down and just gently comb through with my fingers a tiny bit of jojoba oil and those curls will last me about three days. I love it and my hair has thanked me for it by not falling out as much.xxx

Rucha: Omg yay!! I just got my hair cut exactly the same length as yours so I'ma do these braids tonight

Crowned Lily: As someone with naturally curly hair I'd have to say the rope twist results look the most similar to my natural texture.

85thistleton: Love the new shorter hair and the rope twist was my favourite I do them on my youngest daughters hair

MrsLoretta: Love the fullness in this style...I love your haircut...I have naturally curly hair so I put a little gel and cream in my hair and air dry sometimes...You are so good with braids...and hair style...Hugs Loretta

Ainhara: loved the video!! I actually have a question, when I do braids for curling my hair I get a lot of frizz on the top. What can I do to avoid it??

stupor mundi: I really wanted you to test this, I had a feeling the rope twist would be the best! Thanks!

Max Parris: I'm curious to see what kind of curls an infinity braid could make for a heatless curl. I think it could look really cute. Also I love your new haircut! Looks great!

Claire Blaszak: My go to heatless hair curls (which because my hair is so THICK they turn into waves) are putting my hair up in a pony and using foam curlers. It great because the hair is in a pony tail you dont need nearly as many curlers in your hair compared to without a ponytail;)

Ann Latham: You’re making my life so much easier for back to school! Thank you ❤️

Denisse Alpuche: Whole video I was praying “not the fishtail braid please” as I think it’s the hardest for me good thing it wasn’t the best one

Nicole Henry: They all look nice. Cool how they all blended together when you took them out

Emma Caraway: Yesss I love all the heatless hairstyles and CURLS! :))

Caroline Elias: Could you do a video with the difference between French and Dutch braid curls??☺️

Jan Cal: Can’t believe you made this video! Last week I did french braids on wet, just-washed hair of your same texture, just a *bit* longer. I used Lottabody straight from the bottle, just poured it into my cupped palm, then distrubuted it through my hair, then did the french braids, maybe four of them altogether. It was morning, so I put a 50s tied-bandana over my braids, went outside, and when my hair was dry, finger-combed through and— ha ha looked like the Bride of Frankenstein!!!, and it was crunchy. Next time, fewer braids, MUCH less (and diluted) Lottabody ... did result in great body though, for days! Can you do pin curls some time? (Not into heat styling.) Thank you: love your work

victoria a: I've found that French braids just create frizz, not curls. Dutch braids on the other hand create really nice curls. Especially when you brush each piece before including and use nice tension.

Kotryna Pupkuvienė: I have similar lenght hair and I do 2 one side twist braids every night. I love volume and how it curls my hair, almost every day is a good hair day

Amelia Black: I've been sleeping in braids most of my life (less often now). I find that a Dutch Braid, more than a French Braid makes the prettiest beachy waves. Rope braids cane make the curls too tiny, kinky, & frizzy to me. And Fishbone Braids are my least favorite - at best they crimp my hair but that usually falls out leaving it mostly straight.

Rucha: Question!! Your braid looks so neat and amazing, I feel like I always pull too many extra strands when I'm adding hair into my dutch braid, and it looks extremely shabby. Do you have any solution for that?? I really want my braids to look like yours.. and unfortunately I've got black hair with Hints of dark brown so I don't think anyone can really make out which braid I'm wearing. I feel like it's so much more evident when you have lighter hair .

Javi Villafuerte: can’t wait to try this since I have long hair that would look sick

KONSTANTINA ANASTASOPOULOU: Beautiful ideas. I have a question and I need your advice. I try heartless waves during summer but at the end of the day my waves end up frizzing. Any tips in order to avoid frizzing?

Jaime Michelle: I’d love to see how the air wrap works on your short hair now!

Katha rina: the french/dutch braid look good when it is done all over the head, because the nice waves take the attention away from the not so nice ones. unfortunately, they look horrible on me the second day, however, it can be saved by brading the hair a second time before going to bed (without making them wet)

Jade Amelia Walsh: I always use two Dutch braids for my curls!

Tamara Morton: Me, too, rope twist for my prediction because it looked like the waves would be bigger. Yeah, that would be interesting to compare results from mousse versus water. I think it was water. Maybe it's because I'm a lot older than you but I don't look good with disorganized, tight curls. I enjoy watching you do it though because I never know what I'm going to learn from you. Thanks for all your hard work.

Jessa Smith: For someone eco can't braid own hair... I thinking about the wave formers. Would love your review on those.

Selena075: Do four Dutch braids total and when taking it out be very gentle and just unravel it and leave it sit without messing with it and then put hairspray on it it comes out super defined and silky I love it

Ní Raghallaigh: Whenever I want wavy/curly hair I always go for French braids or Dutch braids

Emily Erickson: I once accidentally slept with a fishtail braid in and the end product was like crimped lol so if you’re into it, go for it

Nazat Sakellaropoulou: I don't use curl tools in summer, i do dutch braids before i go to sleep and wake up with wonderful curls love from Greece

Hanna Maamoun: I liked the french braid best , also my best heatless waves come from dutch braids :D

Teresa Creighton: I personally think dutch braids give the nicest waves!

Alyssa Duong: I was legit just binge watching these videos trying to find a good method, youtube knows my needs

safiya3277: Tysm for this amazing video

It'sFunFriday: Everyone has different texture so the braid will depend on type of hair and how tight you make the braid..etc.

Cindy Snow: Omg stop arguing people. Waves= curls ok? Let's just enjoy Milabu and her awesome methods.

Jami Womack: Love them all. What was that bottle of water you were using. I need that in my life. My favorite was the french braid :)

Rewan Khaled: I think the middle braid looked the best the rob braid looked konda shapeless but i loved the video❤️

Ambi Valent: Don't take or handle it so much. Bend over and rough the roots and scrunch . This will give more definition, then lock it in with an alcohol free hair spray

Jakobowww W: You should try a 5 strand French braid and see ❤️

Jessica Vega: Rope twist definitely my fav

Kay-lee Snyders: my hair is pretty straight, so what can i use to help curl it overnight?

mari tere huerta: Hi¡¡¡ can You teach us how to do a infinity braid please¡¡¡¡ You are a great braid teacher. .

Amanda: Thank you for linking the spray bottle!!!

Erin Serrano: Wow that looks great. When i sleep in braids my short, thin hair looks like it's crimped (80s style) :(

vidhi shah: Loved your Vid. Can you do a video on types of hair sprays and their hold on the hair??

Gabriela M. Ramos: You should try flaxseed gel for this hair style.

Fay Coleman: Please try the headband curl method!!! I'm curious if it would work on shorter hair. All the other videos I've seen the hair is about shoulder length and longer

skyler Lane: My favorite is the one in the middle the French braid

Julie Howell: Hi, I love your videos on hair styles but can you do some on makeup??? Really miss those. Thanks

Stephanie Lopez: Can you please put a detailed tutorial on how to do the rope braid

BodaciousBeverly: Btw, although I thought the longer hair was pretty, I'm glad you went back to your signature length.

Kendra Adkins: The rope twist 100% do you have a video on how to do the rope twist?

sailorplutox.x: You Look so cool With the Short Hair

Radley Rayne: French braid is my fav

Sabrina Honaker: Nice! I am curious about a shampoo that keeps popping up on IG, Apple Vinegar...or something like that. It says it does promote growth? Just wondering. Thank you for all the work you do on your videos!

ginny weasley: i frenchbraid my hair for curls and put hairspray in after and they ALWAYS come out the same day

WithMetta: French, definitely, although I expected to like the rope twist.

Joanna Rantamäki: Yas!! Do the videos you mentioned, can't wait!!!

Camille Coopersmith: Your hair looks cute with the waves

Stephanie Kienzle: Fishtail--no, French--nice wave, rope twist--yes.

misneachail: I have that water mister and unless I add a drop of lavender oil, the water ends up smelling like 'old hose water', even after just a couple of days. Love the mister though!

Chandra Heidel: Oh sweet lawd, the rope twist for the winnnnnnn.

teaisluv: I really want to try it, but I can't even braid my hair. My mom can't do it for me either

Miguel red Ignacio: Ooooo mmmyyyyyy gooodddd ..... Really love your tutorials.... i wish i could do that...

مريم: Personally I prefer the French braid

AtomicRoxi: Yea please try more type of braids!

Brenda Lewis: How about Bantu knots.? They create pretty coils and like braids you can customize the size of the coils by the size of your sections.

Hannah F: I just cannot do french braids at all no matter how much I try. My hair’s shoulder length after I cut it the other day and has been through a dip bleach, a dark brown box dye, a colour remove and a red box dye in the last 2 months so I’m trying to avoid any heat. I normally just do a load of regular plaits but they are uncomfortable to sleep in, as are bantu knots. Arghh.

Yvonne Rahmes: Okay, I NEED to know where to BUY THE MISTER !!!!!! AND THE PINK BRUSH !!!!! - also how did you learn HOW to do these BRAIDS???!!! Can you link TUTORIALS for them???!!! This will occupy me for the next month... thanks so much and I LOVE YOUR NEW SHORTER HAIR omg you are totally so pretty no matter what you do :)

Dianne Lopez: I use mousse on damp hair for 2 dutch braids.

Paige: You are getting so strong look at those arm muscles

bebe hensley: I love your videos and watch at least 1 everyday LOL Can you do a video on the best drug store mascara for long beautiful lashes?

Brenda Ayala: I've tried fish tail & i liked it.

Fay Coleman: Thank you so much my hair is about your length it's shorter in the back cause it's A line (not my choice I hate it) anyway thank you.

Patrycja Zernik: I like ropetwist the most ^^

Bijayalaxmi Shrestha: My favorite was french braid

Della Grice: Milana, I think the french braid looked better if you want more volume but for more of a natural look the rope was better. Those two were my favorites. How long did it take you to get used to braiding your own hair? My hair is SO thick and it is a bit longer than yours. It comes down slightly past my shoulders. I have two young children (8 and 6) so I always put my hair in a pony tail to get it out of my face but I want to start doing more with it. I also can't curl my own hair with a flat iron (the mirror throws me off).

Anna Schwarz: Yes, I once slept with a fishtail braid, it was ok

free ._. bee: If you are using rope twists for heatless curls it turns out a lot better if you don’t twist the hair before braiding it. That looks nice when you’re wearing it in that style but for heatless curls it actually works against you. I do it on my hair all the time when my natural curls have lost definition. Give it a try!

Zeinab Chabuk: If do these braids they would look perfect for an hour and after that they get frizzy any product recommendation for locking there curls

Athena Caudill: I literally have the worst time trying to do a French braid on my own hair. Like a Dutch braid seems more natural when I do it on my own hair, but French braid when I do my daughters. I don’t know if it’s an angle or a mirror thing or what. I just find it so funny
