How To Roller Set Hair | Roller Setting Tutorial 2017 | Relaxed Hair

How I Roller Set my Shoulder Length Relaxed Hair for Silky Curls that I can put into almost any hairstyle using Magnetic Hair Rollers.

Here's my updated roller setting routine. If you watched the previous video (wash day routine 2017) this is the footage that immediately followed, it's just a separate video. I do have older roller setting tutorials on my channel, but I chose to update my roller setting tutorial to give you all a better look at how I complete my roller sets for my CURRENT length of hair. (that way when I make reference to my roller sets in other videos, I'm not directing you all to a video from 2012 where my hair may not even be the same length) =D

A Roller Set is a great way to straighten your hair & go from wet to dry without direct heat from a blow dryer or flat iron. This method is STILL possible on relaxed hair with lots of new growth, longer, transitioning, or natural hair. Give It A try to see how it works for you. The size of the roller you choose depends on the size curl you're going for and the length of your hair. For a straighter look, I would've used my larger rollers. I purchased my rollers and clips from my local beauty supply store years ago.

Hey yeah, this is olive dystiny. So in my last video, I update you all on my watched, everything for my relaxed hair and now I want to show you how I roller set my hair as a way of styling it and also avoiding the use of direct heat immediately following the watched, a Routine video - I pretty much I'm just continuing that process with this Roller set. So now, I'm going to take some leave in conditioner apply that to my hair and then I proceed to just call my hair I'd. Do a quick, ponytail check of some kind of unofficial update and now, once it just section my hair out or the rollers see I've been kind of doing roller sets for years now. So as far as section of my hair off, I can kind of just eyeball. It and know where it's apart, my hair, but if you're unsure you could definitely hold a roller up to the middle section of your hair and then just pour it back following the length of the roller and I'm using a lot of body. Sailor lotion because my body gives you a lotta body, and I just love it, because it helps to keep my Roller set silky and smooth, and it makes my curls last for as long as I would like for them to. So I'm starting from the back section and I'm going to work my way forward. Since I'm rolling these rollers going down towards the floor, I feel like they kind of align and lay and see it better when you just start from the back, but keep in mind, I'm not a professional or anything like that. This is just my preference. In my way of doing my roller set from her and it works for me and also you can choose to use the clips that come with the rollers, but for more security, I like to go ahead and use roller setting Clips instead on a part of another Section and this routine will pretty much be the same for this entire middle section of my head, so I'm parting off that section. I am NOT facing the mirror at this point. I'M trying to pretty much get a good angle for you all to see so yeah. Just know that when I'm not recording my part, okay, hey so yeah, just gon na proceed to roll my hair tightly on the roller, and then I just clip that in place using the roller setting clip and when I part my hair, I pretty much apply the Oil to my Scout that way, when I'm sitting under the dryer you're, my scalp is not getting dry. As my hair is getting dry or dry from that being wet, it makes sense, so yeah pretty much receipt. This process is the same thing over and over and as far as making my way to us the front, I do start using a larger sized roller and you'll see that I'm applying lotta bodies each individual section as well, just to make sure that I have enough Distribute it throughout my hair for us, you know the hold of my curls throughout the week as far as using larger rollers, they're, really just opinions on the look that you're going for and the length of your hair. So, for me I may say: oh and this section I kind of may want it to either hang longer, or I know that my hair might be longer in this section and so yeah I'll choose to use a larger roller there. All of that is really just preference just depends on the look that you're going for, like I said, but for me I'll, just use largest rollers in this section for one, because I have more of those grain rollers than the pink ones, and I don't want to Really run out of those so yeah now this section is to be so if you're gon na use a larger roller that will be fine, but for the size of the roller that I'm using. I definitely want to make a smaller section for their roller in that piece of my hair and as I get towards the front, I do kind of overextend, because I want the rollers to sit. You know neatly in place, and you can see that when you just roll just kind of like not even caring about the way you're rolling, it is not tight and your hair chances are. I won't be as smooth as it could be and also when you place the clips in your hair, you want to make sure that you're positioning the roller as far back as possible so that it's smooth, if you're, trying to straighten out your roots and also it Just keeps the roller cut from kind of like you know, flopping around and everything so just kind of pull, you're tight and then position the clip in place to where the roller won't move. Just gon na proceed to row. This last roller going back and then the very front roller I like to roll that one forward facing my face facing my face. I like the row that will forward towards my face for styling purposes. I just feel like I want it, so you know hang that way. So, depending on the way you know you want your curls to hang that also determines the way that you roll them. So I'm gon na apply more lighter body to this next section. Doing some kind of unofficial length checker is coming this kono stay tuned, um, so yeah, I'm gon na part, the first section down towards my ear. I feel, like that's the perfect size for positioning the rows. We did. The middle section go on back towards the floor, and then I only place the front roller going towards my face for these we're also gon na roll. These going up, if that makes sense, because for one, if you're, trying to smooth down or Flay to your new growth, you're kind of positioned in the roller on top of that and so it'll help it to lay flat. But majority of the reason for why I roll mine's going up this way, it's just because it's easier on my hands to go up than it is to kind of roll it in a downward motion. So you know as you're trying to do your roller said. That would make more sense, but yeah I just like to roll it going up like that, because for one it flattens your new growth, if you have any I'm only about six weeks posts. So, for me, it's not to lunch and therefore to is just easier on the hands and as far as these smaller sections of hair just grab those pieces as you go up the way, you're, not excluding any sections and everything you know, gets included in the roller Set so it can be on curly and smooth, and just you know it's a girl also, if you have a problem with getting your ends to be smooth on your rollers, they do have what's called an papers and and papers is just like it's like this tissue Paper kind of material that you put on your hair and then or you can put it on the roller and then it'll just help to keep your hair smooth on the roller. I'D have those, but I don't really use them, because I just can get my hair smooth on the roller, since I've been doing it for so long and plus I have relaxed hair. So I don't really have a problem with getting my hands smooth. So, for example, if your natural or you transition it or just for whatever reasons you can't get your hands to be smooth, I would suggest making sure that your hair is wet. That will help you to get it to. You know stick and lay onto the roller and for two, if you just can't do it, then just get you some end papers and you should be good to go so for this fiction. I'M proceeding so just roll all of them up towards the sky, and so I like for the hair and my hands, are kind of positioned down towards the floor and I'm titling my thumbs as I roll my hair up and then we'll proceed that same process. On the opposite side, so as far as letting your roll is dry, you have so many options. You can choose to air dry. If it's the summertime or it's hot, where you live, you can just you know chill outside on the porch. You can use a hooded dryer, a bunny dryer. I do have a hooded dryer, but lately since I got this funny style dryer for my birthday, I just like to use that one because it kind of traps all the heat in here and it's just you know quicker. It only takes one hour or maybe that's just because it's making my hair now gets thicker my rolos overnight, there's just a preference. I didn't feel like 10 curling, my hair, so I just chose to sleep in them overnight and then want to remove them. I didn't have a problem sleeping in them as well. I'M not sure why, but they were not uncomfortable to anything like that. So before you remove your dryer before you remove your role is definitely make sure that your hair is dry, because if it's not bandages to fetus the whole purpose of you roll the state of your hair, like you, don't want to take the rollers out. If your hair is not dry and if I find that a section, it's not dry, we'll just rear, oh that definitely late and slay your edges, because your hairstyle is not complete, as you can see. If your edges are not on fleek, this is pretty much what my hair looks like before. I began to manipulate the curls, I'm going to take it wide to comb and a hair pick and just go to town on my hair to kind of separate the parts and pretty much down my hair and fluff it up and all of those good things. I like bigger, hair and bigger curls, so yeah the bigger the hair. It makes some stairs. So I pick my hair and make it really big and pretty somehow like definitely style your hair. The way that you would like, I know that everyone may not want to wear their curls this way, there's so many different options from where your curls honestly, for me, Rolla, said in my hair and getting these curls is kind of the foundation, so the different styles That, I will you know, put my hair in maybe clipping it up or putting it into Crilly puffs or not even wearing the curls at all, but just needing to get straighter hair so I'll just brush all of that out and put it into a bun. You just have different options: it's just up to you to play with your hair and find what you like. You know what works for you and all of those things at this point in time. Right now, my focus is just healthier, hair and getting longer hair, which I have had or if you do have longer, hair and you're wondering if you can do roller set. I will link my roller setting videos from when I had longer hair down below few out to check those out and yeah questions. The comments be sure to leave all of that down below. I definitely wanted to update you all on how I do my roller set, since my other videos are kind of older than now, since it is 2017 as far as maintaining the curls overnight use a perm rod, flexi rod, soft roller stand roller, whatever kind of roller. You just want to, you know, maintain your crews overnight, and these are just some of the different styles that I do put my curls and, as I said, the roller set datian so styling your hair. However, you like it, you don't want anywhere the curls. Definitely brush them out, wear them straight fine, so you have questions or comments be sure to leave all of that down below get connected with me on Instagram and Twitter, for when I'm not here on YouTube and yeah also subscribe if you're not already - and I thank You all so so so much for watching

Tiffany Ne’Cole: Ahhh Destiny I miss these Relaxed hair videos you were so dedicated to your journey I still come back to these videos they are refreshing years later. I love your natural hair too by the way your dedication is admired

Cierra Weatherspoon: Great video! It was very informative. I've been transitioning to natural for about 6 months and it's been difficult managing my new growth sometimes and my roller sets would never turn out the way I wanted them to but the way you explained how to place and roll the hair to straighten your new growth Is just what I needed. Thanks for the great video!

iCoach Ladies: You're such a positive bubbly personality. It's refreshing to see a video of someone who is an humble confident... Not over the top. I love your hair outcome!!

Kyra Myi: you do this so easily it's a struggle for me lol

Ayanna Hana Elaine: Even though I’m natural this is the best roller set video I’ve seen. Not only did it show the roller set process, but also how to maintain and other styles to wear with it

Tyiece: Wow so synchronistic, I just did roller set this week. I find it easier to start at the front versus the back. Yes I'm going back to no heat as well. My relaxed hair thrives so much without heat. I had to learn the hard way over the years. So from now on if I want straight sleek hair, it will just be wet wraps and roller sets. Thanks for sharing, I love watching other relaxed hair ladies journey

CD Sherwood: I love your videos. You explain and show the actual mechanics of a good wet/damp roller set better than anyone else I've seen. Thank you for sharing.

jess till: Hey Destiny, great job on the rollerset, you might want to roll your sides last and not block yourself in by rolling the side before you roll the other section, but bottom line, Great job!!!!!

Natasha Moore: I just finished roller setting my hair. I believe in no direct heat is the key to healthy hair. I wish you the best in achieving the length you want.love your videos.

Luke Thomas: I've been trying to figure this out for a while for the theatre, definitely going to try your way of doing the sides. Great instructions, thank you. Your hair looks very pretty at the end, really suits you.

Meggs: You make it look so easy! *sigh* Every time I do roller sets my hair never gets completely dry. Even if I use my hooded dryer or sit around the house 8-10 hours. I can only do roller sets when my hair is dry with a little moisturizer/setting lotion.

maria aparecida barbosa da silva: So beautiful!!! Well done !! I love it.

Licia Face: This was really sweet of you to post! I spent my childhood going to hair salons, so as an adult I don’t have a lot of knowledge or skills when it comes to doing my own hair. I never like the experience of going to the salon- my shirt would get wet from the shampoo and I’d have to sit a wet mess until the full thing was done. And the overbooking always kept me in there for two hours or more- and the price! And I would always be so hungry! I’m going to do my best with this- can I do this using my drier in the morning? I’ve never slept well with curlers and would wake up a bit earlier to get it done!

Claire: Which edge control do you use??

Veronica Greene: your hair kooks beautiful. I love all the syles you did in video. I have perm hair. My hair was damage from using curling iron, flat iron and stress of abusive marriage. I left my husband. I cut my hair when grew back. I when to hairstylist got perm every 8 weeks. but I got roller wrap. instead of having him take rollers out and put me back under dryer wrap hair. than unwrap it. I had him take rollers out. leave it curly. That night I reroll it. I did that for year. my hair grew. I stop using flat iron and curlers. I started using magmatic rollers in pink (big), yellow (medium ), blue (small). I use the white curl rods for curly hair. I use argon oil and pink oil lotion, shampoo, condition. I roll my hair. I started doing like you say play with style get different looks. I also use fancy bobby pins. one has pearls. it looks great have all curls up. you see bobby pin in back. Also I use artificial flowers in my hair. it has become my trademark like Nicey Nash from clean house. I love using rollers because I can achieve different looks. I also wrap my hair. in put medium side rollers in middle. it is cute look. Like you say just play with your hair. More you practice better it becomes.I perfected my hair So much now. That my financee say my hair looks better when I do when I go to hairstylist.

Jamaha Smith: Can you please do a video on why you choose to have permed hair and how long have you been permed?

Ron Williams: I love the idea of roller set hair but it just never looks as good as hair off the curling iron I don't care how you set it. It looks real good if you go over it with the hot curling irons off the stove that's the best looking hair in the world. But yes your roller sets are the best that they can be for being wet sets.
