How I Successfully Transitioned From Relaxed To Natural Hair | Transition To Natural Hair

How I SUCCESSFULLY Transitioned from Relaxed to Natural Hair. Since I transitioned for two years i feel like its my duty to not forget about the transitioners out there this is EXACTLY what I did to successfully transition. I explain what my weekly wash routine was like, how i deep conditioned, what products i used, the hair styles i did. Literally everything you need to know about how i made it to the end. Hopefully this is able to make your natural hair journey of going natural easier.

Hey it's Caitlin and welcome back to my channel. So, as you guys know, I transition for two years, so you know I can't forget the transitioners out there. So I thought I would get you guys to this time successfully, transitioned from relaxed to natural hair video and before I get into this video, if you guys are new to my channel that make sure you hit the subscribe button down below. There really helped me out and check out some other videos on my channel and this one and yeah let's get into it, so I got tempted to go natural twice before I actually succeeded and the reason why I don't want to because I wasn't watching natural hair Youtube videos at that time, so I was still changing my hair and I don't think that I even knew about doing like transitioning styles, like that you have to be to a thousand braid outs. So the morning news room that I was getting the harder and harder and harder it was to like straighten my hair and since it was so hard to like get like the blow-dryer teen and slept through my hair, I'm just like forcing it. So I'm adding like so much so much so much heat to my hair, trying to get it straightened that I was damaging on the world and then another reason why I said it's basically because I was just letting the criticism of other people get to me. Like everybody was saying, oh they'll go natural, you'll have that type of hair and your hair is nappy, but I personally have to finally get to the point where I was like: okay, I'm going natural for me, like I'm, not doing this for nobody else. If you don't like it, it's not your head. So after I got that mindset is when I attempted to go natural for the third time at the third time I finally succeeded, so I started watching YouTube meals for people who actually long. I felt like I got the best advice from people who actually did it so obviously the second thing that I did after watching YouTube videos was, I stopped getting a relaxer and literally I had came home for my Christmas break during the school year and, as I Was sitting in my beautician chair? I had literally made up my mind that that was my status time that I was gon na ever get a relaxer again, so I started doing six outs braid out bantu knots, but leave maybe I'm doing braid outs and bantu knot. Those were mine to go to so when I first first started, it was really easy because my hair was basically still calm at that point, like I suppose I had like maybe an inch of new growth, but once I hit like three inches of new growth, that's Where my hair started to get like manageable, like we're, not manageable, but that's one of the times. I got a lot more difficult to deal with, so what my hair actually came like a lot more difficult to deal with, and I got like a nice, an amount of natural hair. That'S when I switched and started using like actually natural hair products, because it's like I was using this just some basic conditioner and I really didn't - have no sleep. I don't even know what Smith was. It'S like. I thought what I was using with people once I found a conditioner that has some slip like some real slip. That'S what I was like. Oh okay, like this and the conditioner that I used like during my transition, was oddly moist we've an empirical team. That was my go-to conditioner. It made my shower routine, so much easier, shampoo. I was just using ATO shampoo because you really no matter it's a conditioner that we made a miracle also started last as long. So I got into a routine of washing my hair. Every single week for two years, they're tired to be used that I transition, and mainly I have to do that once a remoisturize, my hair and then to to get rid of tangles, because at first I wasn't properly detangling my hair because it was so hard. Then one time I went to the petition to get my hair straightened and I'll talk about straightening my hair later, but I wasn't musician to get my hair straight and she was basically like tripping because she was like your hair is locking and I believed it because I was not possibly to take a look. My hair and, like I was like. Oh, this section is hard all into the next section. Like I wasn't. Even I wasn't angling from my roots, some is, I was really just. The same level was easy that only boys 3 minute miracle really made it easy to detangle my hair and get from our roots to the ends. The tango was a breeze and another being like at first. I would use the shampoo every week when I was transitioning, but my hair was already dry, so I stopped to the shampoo every week during my transition, and I only did it once a month, because unless your hair is like 13 areas, you really don't have to Shampoo you every single week, and I instead, I shampoo my hair every week. Well, while the only reason why I do it now is really because I found a better life, pretty moisturizing and I cut into the happiness to win it. But while I was transitioning, I would share point once a month because my hair was already dry and I need it as much moisture as possible. But another thing that I did was found a very very beginning of my transition and if you go away that can send my channel you'll see this in videos, but I'm going to take it weekly pictures of my new bro. Like every time I wash my hair. I would snap a few pictures of legs on curls and stuff. Just to keep me motivated inside help me keep track of my progress. As you guys know, people are always like. Oh my hair isn't growing. My hair isn't growing but like if you see every single day, you're, probably not going to notice because you see it every day but like if you have like progress pictures you can see like oh dang four months ago, my hair with this one. Now, my hair, is this long you're, not I'm saying so. The progress pictures really help me just stay motivated and see that, like my hair really was growing but also, I know after two years, like my hair was like this long, so it had to be. Like 1012 inches, so I know after two years my chair like when I did my big chop, is SHINee's back where it started. But when I was trying to share my transitioning styles, they never lasted be long, and I talked about this and videos before, but my spouse never lasted long like they literally like one day. I was lucky, but I honestly think that meat not deconditioning play a major role in. Why am I here with the lasting long, so I'm horrible, and I would wear my hair thanks now about for like one or two days, because that's as long as it lasted and then I would go back into a boy so because my hair was the last Thing, I always did my hair is a day before it is bent, and I would take down the style today on ebay, because I still me getting my hair with a knife and I also just got comfortable wearing, but it's like. I had to camp also going back to the straightening if I had somewhere like important to go like I wanted to look my best like I didn't want to do these little transitioning style. I would get my hair straightened now in Chicago, like everybody through what would have you to know? I did have my beautician that I trust that I know how she works like I know how she takes care of people's hair. So when I wanted to get my hair straight, my sole job - and I was not me - straighten my hair - that was not 15 for me, because I know what I was doing so I went to get my hair professionally straight, but Iook straighten my hair, like ed, Like I'll say like within the two years that I was transitioning, I has to braid my hair and I can't remember, but it was somewhere between five and ten and when I straighten my hair, I want my hair straight for a month because that's a whole month Now I'm gon na do nothing to my hair. It could just be as it is and I have to be bothered. But when I was transitioning the way did I moisturize my hair, but I would just wake up every day. Get some oil rub it in my hair. You know every day every other day probably would have been okay. It'S three months. I have any bit that I'm going to wear my three months coming today. You did, and then I wear my hair straight but a one month and then go back to my Styles is never be like I'm saying so something you ain't coming up with too much my hair too much a new straightening. You know and when I was getting my hair straightened, like I told you I went to somebody who I know pays care to filter your hair. So we don't see my hair straightened. I didn't get no heat damaged at the end of my transition. I know if I were to do it myself. I probably would have had any damage and if I noticed that I was getting heat damage or whatever they're not gon na straighten it at all. But I was cool like when I was getting my hair straighten and I also retained, like all my length when I transitioned my hair, wasn't like broken off or like choppy looking or anything and that good, because that's the entire point of transitioning so that you could Retain you insane and you wanted to look help me and, like I said I was getting my hair straightened a couple of times, so why would I want like some broke? It off, drag it chunky in so much crazier. When I got my hair straightened, that's when I got in truth, I don't really care how much she trimmed off, because it was going to be cut off at some point anyway. So, even when you transition a it's still important to like be gentle which are relaxed Tara, because that's the whole reason why we're transitioning so that we can hold onto our relaxed period so we're ready to cut it off. But even though my hair was like super dry like you're, super super super dry, that's why I had to moisturizer every day, but because of the fact I was moisturizing, my hair every single case. That'S why I was able to retain thanks, like when I finally reached my two year mark job. My hair was long like I didn't want to do my big chop because I was like dang like my hair - has never been this mom, but just to describe my hair routine every week getting a shower once a month and poo. Every week I became conditioned my hair. Give us one minute miracle go I here at section, is female white suits calls in just the tango each section and it just tie back up so visit the tango I wash off the conditioner, and then that was it. I take my shower or whatever then I told y'all like I would be conditioning wrong, so I was putting in regular conditioner and sit under my dryer for an hour and then I would rinse it out. Didn'T do nothing so makes me that was like the unnecessary step in a waste of time. The way that I did my transitioning style was literally like I think I um sectioned off my hair. Then I will take one piece at a time hook: moisturizer on it. In the moisturizer, that is, with the Canton, leaving repair cream and think it was five hours at the time, and that was maybe even three, but that was my go-to like except one product and I never used another product intellection until I finished my transition. So I use I found it every single time. I would put that on my hair at the moisturizer detangle apply oil apply chill, and then I would just braided up or bantu knot it if I braided it up above those perm rod on the end. Just you know so that the end would be curling up a bit. So basically I would go to be a have my span going and then my hair would normally be dry the next morning and I'll take it out, and that was my routine every week for two years so yeah, that's, basically how I ended up successfully transitioning from Relaxed to nachos the hardest part is really just your mindset. That'S there once again show routine only. You really just got to wait it out in to see patient until your time is up. It'S not really much that you can do once it's over. You will be so thankful that you will be so happy that you finally made it like y'all for real. I am so glad that I did not have a relaxing so yeah. That'S how I successfully transition from relaxed and natural hair.

Michelle Lassiter: I'm transitioning now and I have 3 inches of new growth. I'm having difficulty with this process because I'm used to straight hair. You give me hope. Tnanks

Ivanna: "The hardest part is the mindset", That's so true. People will always try to talk you down with a lot of bullsh*t (even without knowing a thing) and tell you that it would not look good on you, that relaxed hair is easier to manage, that you should settle and not do it for the trend (as if the way my hair grows out of my head it's a trend), but as you said I'm doing this for me, it's MY hair; whoever dislikes it then turn around and mind your business. What's funnier is that when you go completely natural and it turns out it looks good on you, they're the first ones to compliment it

dnw75: This is my 2nd time with going natural. The 1st time, I did the same as you, kept my hair straightened not realizing that was bad to do. I knew NOTHING about transitioning (this was 4 or 5 years ago). Fastfoward to today, I did tons of research this time when I decided to try again. I just completed my 4th month & am now in my 5th month of transitioning.

Giggles: Kaylyn your hair looks great. I only relaxed after 18 yrs old. I transitioned before and went back to relaxed. I like both to be honest. I see benefits on both sides. I have to do deep conditioning no matter the state of my hair. I like Camille Rose products and Garnier Fructis and Rose water/glycerin.

Brittany Ferguson: I legit only do buns every single day. My hair is too short and the relaxed ends are so stringy so I can’t wear my hair out. I do box braids sometimes as well when I wanna give my hair a break or when I’m bored.

Joannaa Joi: Five minutes in and I clicked that like button already You're sooo informative and Honest. I would've never thought your hair was in the condition youu explained, hard work pays off! Your hair is gorgeous queen

itrat zara kaleem: I can relate to everything you said at the beginning of the video I tried going natural many times ,got discouraged each time .I wasn't watching YouTube channels I am transitioning now. Thank you so much for this video

Shelley Rice: Great video. Now 6 months into my transition and decided to changed all my relaxed hair products as my hair wasn't moisturised enough. Deep conditioning on a weekly basis is a must. I'm using the Mane Choice to transition. Their pre poo is a lifesaver. The LOC method really helps soften new growth.

J Mo: I've been transitioning for 6 months so far. I have about 3 inches of new growth and this will be my second time going natural. As I'm transitioning, I'm trying to figure out my hair and learn new methods of retaining moisture. The last time I was natural was my first time going natural, and that didn't go well for me. This time I will succeed!

Giovanahc: Thanks for posting! Your hair is beautiful! I will be at 12 months this August without a perm. I'm doing the steps you stated to transition now. I'm having success so far!

GSW Power: It's funny how haters told you not to go natural but for me it was the haters jealous of my hair length that made me want to cut off my heat damage. But my hair is still a nice length and is growing back really fast!!!

Dominique wright: I got it right the 2nd time lol, I got discouraged during /after the first year. I think I was just overwhelmed by the two different textures.

karen horton: Way to go Sis❤️ So glad you chose to do this video...I hope the new transitioners appreciate itYou’ve given them the most important information. And touching on the mindset was genius...btw I see you shouting out the Jheri Curl girl

LadyJ Kelley: Hey Kaylyn I really enjoy watching your videos!! And this month on August 24th I will be one year post relaxer..I am soooo proud of myself!! The first time I transitioned it was fail but this time so far so good And u are so right the more natural hair I get my styles do not last long so I just wear a buns 95% of the time.

Anisha Armstrong: Thanks for the video btw. I'm loving your videos! You're so real with us and humble. ♥️

Amber Drummond: Your hair looks like you got it shaped! It looks really good!!

Sierra LaFaye: Omg I ain’t realize everyone growing up in Chicago had a beautician, I thought it was just my family but I feel like ur right! also orange is ur color!

Lilly Caines: 15 more days and I’ll have transitioned for a year! I’m thinking of big chopping the relaxed parts in June. I’m excited. :)

flyingangel: I’ve been transitioning for about 7 months now and i’m so excited for the results, 5 more months

Miss K: Love your vids! <3 keep doing what you do! Almost 10 months post relaxer. idk if I'll make it to 2 years..im too thirsty to see my curls

Tabitha C: Love the video, very thorough and informative

Graceful Knots: Nice information. Thank you for sharing. It s good that you stopped listening to people. They certainly discourage people. I transitioned years ago but kept braiding cos I felt I couldn't leave my hair out like that. Now I dont braid anymore as I almost became bald. I did a video showing this :)

S Brown: I would snap a picture of My curls and stuff just to keep me motivated. When she said that I smiled because I'm ready to start my natural hair journey.

God’s Precious: I always learn so much from your videos. Can you do a review on higher end vs. lower end hair products?

balaia29: I'm going natural again. I texturized my hair on Jan 1st but its extremely unprocessed because I diluted the texturized with conditioner. My hair is back to its natural kinky state. I wonder if I have to big chop

Ingrid Nasson-Ansarie: Best realistic transitioning video to date. Thank you. I BELIEVE you about the tangles...lol. Sending you love from Africa ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

moon star: taking progress pictures keeps me motivated too❤️ i’m post 7 months

All Smiles Over Here: Thanks for sharing. This video was very helpful!

Deja Dantzler: I’m watching this video for tips . When I wash my hair it’s curly then straight at the end . any other tips I can get to get back natural ?

yessimperfections: Good job and good tips I’ve been trying to transition but my problem is not the heat it’s dying it

Kay west: Glad i found this video! No more perms and I’m not going to cut it off to get started!

darshana pillay: Your hair look amazing , I transitioning from 1 year n five month in next month I am planning for big chop

Darcey DeRosa: Your natural hair is beautiful!

Felicia Dunn: Can we see a wash day routine and a wash-n-go routine please ❤️❤️❤️?

TJ Radway: Your curly hair video was amazing

shalomshawty: Did you condition and deep condition weekly? I am transitioning and wonder whether I have to conditon and also deep condition after under the hooded dryer? Thank you all of your videos are a big help!

aquiviene: YYOOOO and you hair looks AMAZING THANK YOU for not listening to those people who don't believe in God's design

Do Anne River : i love your videos but the music wss too loud

Alison L: Is your hair low porosity? Any tips for low porosity new transitioned hair?

Ajah Coleman: So you didn’t have to do the “big chop”? How often did you get your ends trimmed?

Yodaly P.: how often do you wash your hair?

Anisha Armstrong: I wish I was watching transitioning videos back when I was transitioning. All I was doing was watching videos of people with like 3C hair when I have mostly 4a hair. I also had braids all throughout transitioning, so I never knew how to take care of my hair. I didn't even know what it looked like. If I'd just transitioned without the braids I'd probably get to know my hair more than I did then. I was using products I used on my permed hair and I was just washing it and putting the hair lotion on it and going.

April Wheaton: What was the name of the conditioner you use during your transition?

Boluwatiwi Ogunye: your hair is so beautiful

Michelle: How long post big chop was your hair in this video?

shayloveeee: Post more!

Anne Cuthers: oh and this is random but would you ever try Xtreme wetline gel?

Mymy Kisses: I love you & this video

karen horton: Oh I’m hooked on Jane Carters Curls to Go☺️

Adriannn Adriann: How do you deal with morning shrinkage? I've been natural for almost a year and this shrinkage is killing me . I keep it moisturized and my roots and scalp oiled, but every morning my hair shrinks and takes shape of the bonnet. My hair type is 4a/b.

Amisha Abdihakim: I only relaxed my hair once please tell me how to stop please

Arleen Xitumul: wait, ok so i have natrually straight hair can i still transition to curly hair????????????? or how does that go???

Redefine Resilience: Who makes the 3 minute miracle conditioner that you used?

Miss K: Do you still use products that contain silicones?

Megs Craven: I haven’t had a relaxer since March 2018, is it okay if i get my hair professionally straightened (like a silk press) once a month?

Lorraine A. Mitchell: Great video but music way too loud

Pusheen: Do you have to do braid outs and twist outs cause they don’t look good on me :(

Danilda Velazquez: If you weren't using shampoo every week, what were you using to wash your hair?

Gabby K: So people that have gotten perms can go natural once u let the perm grow out & your hair will be curly?

Sharon Douglin: The music is too loud and very distracting. I couldn't watch the full video.

Coco Nelly: Hey girl!!! What does slip mean?

Sarah A.: So it took to months for your hair to start falling right.

Mamie Frazier: She looks like Josaline from LAHH

mia grenade: Do you ever have to moisturize your wash and gos at any point of time during the week? How do you do it? My hair start to get a little dry like on the 5th day

Anne Cuthers: Already natural but heeeeyyyyy girllll

Tyra Greer: Thanks
