FAQs & TIPS!

✔ How long does the curls/waves last?

This will be different for everyone, and it depends on your hair. For me, the curls/waves stayed for a day. If you want your curls to last longer, you can mist it with some hairspray.

✔ Will this work for thin or thick hair? What about short hair?

Yes! For thick hair, your curls may turn out more soft and loose. For this tutorial, your hair should be around shoulder-length. Otherwise, it may be difficult to roll it around your shoelace.

✔ What about curly hair? Frizzy hair?

For curly hair, I'd recommend dampening it and brushing it out really well before rolling it around the shoelace. If your hair tends to get frizzy, you can use an anti-frizz hair serum/spray.

✔ Can I use a blow dryer to speed up the process?

Yes! It's best to let it air dry because the curls will look more natural, but if you're in a hurry, you can use some heat to make the process faster. If your blow dryer has an option for cool air, you can use that instead to lessen the damage.

✔ Can I use something else other than a shoelace?

Yes! Any pre-made elastic headband or elastic string will work. The shoelace will just give you more room for customization because we all have different sized head shapes xD

✔ EXTRA TIPS:

-If your ends don't stay, pin them down with bobby pins.

-Remember to only slightly dampen your hair (20-30%). If you wet it, it will take too long to dry and the water may weigh down your hair and prevent the curls from forming.

-For best results, wait for your hair to be completely dry before removing the shoelace. It shouldn't take more than 2 hours. If it does, you may have dampened your hair too much. In that case, you can use a blow dryer to speed up the process.

-If you don't get this the first time, keep practicing! It will get easier, I promise! :)

Hello, everyone long time, no see I apologize for this delayed upload for this past month. My laptop was terribly damaged and broken, and it was nearly impossible to edit any videos, but I managed somehow and I'm glad to be back today. I'M gon na show you how to curl your hair with a shoelace. The results will give you some beautiful, heatless soft curls that are versatile for many different occasions to get started. You'Re going to slightly dampen your hair with some water, then brush it out to get rid of any tangles next you're going to need a shoelace or any elastic string, place this over your neck and bring it to the top and tie this over your head. When you're done, you should have a customized headband, that's perfect! For your size. If you already have an elastic headband on hand, then you can use that instead, I just find that it's more comfortable to make your own customized headband, because everyone has a different sized head plus. I know you're more likely to have a shoelace lying around than a premade elastic headband. So what you're going to do is place your shoelace head bend over your head, making sure to tuck everything behind it, except for any short beings that you have split your hair. In half from the back and let's start on one side, you're going to stretch out your shoelace and pull your hair into it, you're going to do that again, a while going upward until you reach the end. Since my hair is really long, I had to bring it all the way to the top. At this point, if you don't feel like your ends, are very secured, then feel free to pin them down with some pins now move on to the other side and continue to row to rest of your hair around your shoelace headband. When you're all done, you can spray your hair with a little more water or hairspray to keep it in place, and you should have a pretty cute updo, that's actually wearable! Now you just have to wait for you here to be completely dry. If you are impatient or in a hurry, you can use a blow dryer, but if you can avoid it, then you should let your hair air-dry hello again. This is me the next morning and I'm getting ready to go out. I realized that I didn't do a very good job of sleeping in a straight line. I look like it just endured a very long fought battle, but let's see how the curls turned out to take up a shoelace. All you have to do is untie it and slowly and wrap it around your hair gently, separate your hair and arrange it to your liking, and you should have some soft romantic curls and waves, unlike my other heatless curls, these didn't last as long they loosened up Within 12 hours, and by the next day they were pretty much gone. I think it was particularly because I kept turning around my sleep and I didn't use any hairspray. If you make sure that your hair stay put in a well in place, the curls should turn out more bouncy and be fine anyhow. I think this is still a nice and cheap way to get some cute heatless, curls or waves. So please try it out. Let me know how it went for you, you can send me a picture through my Facebook fan page or show me your results through Instagram by using the hashtag, x3 haha or directly tagging me at x3 huh. Thank you for watching and be sure to leave your next video requests in the comment below have a wonderful day and I'll see you all soon. Toodles you

Teresa Nguyen: Hello, Thuha! Last night I tried this method, doing everything you did (except switching the shoelace for a headband). I just want to thank you so much, because the results are great! These could be my favorite no-heat curls ever, because it doesn't take too much of my hair length. I have butt-length hair, and I find that curling my hair makes it look ten inches shorter. This method, fortunately, doesn't make my hair like that. Also, my results are very different from yours. Whereas yours is more loose and beachy, mine is more tight and defined, like I used a curling wand instead of no heat. My advice for anyone who is having problems with this method is to wait a very long time before taking the shoelace off. I waited 12 hours before removing, and I think that is what makes my curls more defined. Anyway, thanks for this video, and have a great day, Thuha!
