Okay - and here is the final look, this is why I love to finger coil. My hair, hey guys, welcome back to my channel. My name is Kelly and in today's video, I'm finally going to show you how I figure coil my hair. I'Ve been doing this in most of my videos, and a lot of you have asked me to do a separate video on how I do this, so I'm finally doing it, I probably finger coil about 90 % of the time. There are certain videos where I didn't finger: coil my hair, the most recent one being my weed dat, vital curl video. I did not finger comb my hair there, but I was still loving the results side. Note. I guess the finger coil helped to train my curls. I feel like it makes my loose curls a little bit tighter and more defined now finger coiling does not create curls. If you don't have curly or wavy textured hair finger. Coiling is not gon na magically give you curls, you have to have naturally curly hair already. So, as you guys know, my hair is a loose curl. I have liked to see through 3b. Most of my curls at 3a, though, and I feel like it has worked great for my hair - so depends on the products you use, but mainly it depends on the finger coiling technique. So I'm going to show you how I do that today, most of the time in most of my videos, I only finger coil, the top section of my hair. This includes my bangs and just like the top layer, I might do a little more than usual. Just for the sake of the video to show you guys like how exactly I do it and the products that I'm going to be using today are diva curl products. If you haven't seen my diva curl video, I definitely recommend you go check it out in the link, above so as usual, when you're styling, your hair, make sure you're styling on very wet hair, other people will say: soaking wet is soaking wet, as you can see, The water is not dripping out because I usually kind of squeeze it in the shower to get the excess water out, but my hair is still very wet and I keep a spray water bottle on hand. Just in case my hair starts to get a little dry. I just spray it and make sure it stays wet as when your hair is wet. It helps the products to set how it's going to dry if it's already starting to dry and form. So I'm gon na start off by putting a little bit of diva. Curls believed in this is one of my favourite leavings, it's really lightweight, and it helps to make my hair nice and voluminous. So I'm just gon na work it through my whole head. I'M gon na use my Denman brush to smooth out my hair. Now I'm going to separate my hair to apply the products and, as always, I'm gon na apply a little bit of the cream and then a gel to seal it all in so for the cream. I'M gon na use diva curls wavemaker, just a little bit and if you're confused as to why I use this since it's called wave maker and my hair is curly um. I mentioned why in my diva curl video, but pretty much, it's really a lightweight cream. I like that about it. It helps to texturize my hair, give it some body, so I like to use that now, I'm gon na add some diva curls ultra defining gel. This is one of my favorites that much and rake it. If I added the cream to now, I'm going to add the gel and then I'm going to show you guys how it starts a finger coil, so I usually do it right after I add the gel and that's because gel is very liquidy, usually water-based. So I finger coil after I rate the gel in because it gives it a nice slim. Okay. So now I'm going to show you the steps on how I finger coil. So what I'm going to use is my middle finger and my hand to tighten the coil. So I take a piece of hair about this big. Then I rate my fingers to it to make sure it's not tangled. Now I'm gon na hold this piece of hair, so my middle finger is holding it with my thumb and then my other two fingers are holding it and I'm gon na twist it around my middle finger twisting that piece of hair slide down hold that twist use My hand to come up and keep twisting and then you can be twisting as you slide down as well, so I'm twisting twisting twisting and then gently from the bottom release see and then it stays in this nice little coil, okay! So now I'll do it on this side, this front section so twist twist pull down wrap it up twist, pull it down, wrap it up with your hand twist, and they can keep twisting as you go down and trust me, it takes practice. I didn't naturally get this at first. It took a while for me to kind of get it now. It'S second nature to me. I know some people say: oh this takes too long. You know, I don't want to waste my time doing that it's worth it. For me, and obviously I do it really quickly now, so it doesn't take that much time and I think it's worth doing it. I really like the results. Sometimes, when I finger coil, I like to switch my hands are using my left hand, makes the curl go inward towards my face and then using my right hand, makes it go outward away from my face, and I like doing this, because if you do too many Curls going the same way, they might just turn into a big clump and they'll turn it's like a giant curl. So if your finger coil I'm going different ways, they won't like get the stuff together. Okay, so after your finger coiling, this section you're just going to scrunch lightly with your hand, and this just helps to encourage the curl. So I didn't finger coil the whole section I kind of just did like that outer layer. So some of the inside is just my regular natural curls, so I'm going to continue doing that all the way up to the top. So, starting on this top layer raking through wrapping around my middle finger, sliding it down as I wrap and then using my hand to come back up to the top and do that all over again. And this helps to make it nice and tight and obviously the tighter the coil, the better the curl will come out. So, as you can see, the finger-pointing helps my curls to form, especially these right here. These are gon na dry really nicely yeah again. It just helps to define the curl the gel helps to hold seal it and keep the curl in place. So now I'm going to diffuse my hair until it's fully dry and we will see the result okay. So this is my hair all dried. I feel like Goldilocks right now, so this is not the finished look. Obviously my hair looks a little too flat and a little too like perfect, so I'm gon na go in as I usually do, and I separate the curls that I finger coiled and this just helps to make my hair look more full. So it's funny. Sometimes I get comments on YouTube and Instagram here and there not too much, but people are like. I bet she use the curling wand off camera and I bet she use perm rods for that and I'm like I did not, I don't have to lie. It'S usually because of the curls like this, but this is what your quailing does. So I'm going to separate the curls really gently, I usually just start from the top and slowly split them down the middle. There we go so you can see. The curls are really nicely defined super bouncy, and you only want to separate your curls when your hair is fully dry. If you do this, while it's wet or damp, your curls are just gon na mess up. So I pretty much just go around my whole head separating my curls actually notice that I became a habit of mine like if I'm waiting for something or kind of just like just sitting there I'll just like go through my curls and like look for a big. Like clump of curl and like separate it, it's like so satisfying and then sometimes I pick up the top layer, so I can get to like the middle and bottom layer to separate more curls. This helps to give you volume to I love separating my bang, because, obviously the shorter, the curl the cure, it looks it's so bouncy. Okay, and here is the final look. This is why I love to finger coil, my hair. I just think it makes my curls look so spirally and it's fine and I just really like the look that it gives my hair type. So let me know what you think in the comments below. Thank you guys so much for watching. I hope that my technique helps you and if you have to use it, don't forget to tag me on Instagram, so I can see if you're not subscribed to my channel already. Please subscribe for more videos. Thank you guys so much for watching, and I will talk to you in my next video bye.

Joy Before Her: UPDATE: I no longer recommend these products due to recent claims of DevaCurl causing hair and scalp issues. But the technique is still fine and can be used with any products.

Mallory Brooke: You are so gorgeous, and the reason I’m going to accept my curls Thank you for your videos! They have helped me start my curly girl journey❤️

Shahzel K. Asghar: I would like to thank you for all the tutorials you have made on YT ! It's hard to find technics and products when you have 3A or looser type of curls. So thanks to you, now, I embrace my natural curls which are more and more beautiful every week, following your pieces of advice. Thank you so much, I love you <3 !

Sasha Colon: We literally have the same type of hair and i have been looking FOREVER for someone to help me with my hair. The back of my hair is 2c and the top is 3a and it was frustrating for a very long time and boom i found your video! Thank god and thank you for the videos!

Zoe Silvia: Looove this. My hair is kind of curly and I spent so long trying to get my hair properly moisturized after 18 years of not knowing how to take care of my curls, but then got really sick and my hair’s been up in a bun for 4 months. I can’t wait to get my hair cut and give this a try when I’m better! I won’t look nearly as good as you do, but I’m grateful for people like you who are helping people learn how to properly take care of their curls.

Ashley: I never knew that I could do stuff like this with my hair. I wish someone had taught me how to appreciate it... I heat damaged it so bad

Lidia: Holy crap... I just did this the exact way you did it and WOW. I've seen these twist methods before and i was like, meh idk, and I never cared. But omg you made me wanna try and now I'm fabulous

Felicia L: I found this video to be very interesting - I never knew that this method could be used for different types of hair. I have Type 4 curls - so tiny coils. I stopped putting a straightening relaxer in it a few years ago, and I am still learning how to deal with it. The latest transformation is that it is getting curlier and harder to straighten with heat. So, I started finger coiling the curliest sections. I find that the hair tends to retain length better - instead of shrinking down into an afro. It also helps to loosen the coils into spirals - which I really like because it looks like I spent a lot of time with a curling iron but lasts longer. If I take care not to get it too damp and wrap the finger coils into a bantu knot or around a scrunchie, I can get the hair to unwind enough to form loose waves. So, I use finger curls to loosen and unwind my naturally coily hair.

Qhristi: Oooh I'mma try this out on my next wash. My hair is a range of 2a to 2c. It's annoying, how I do my hair and leave it really effects it. I love the definition and volume this gave you

VintageWonderland: Wasn't sure if this would work on my 2b 30" hair but it did. Looks beautiful and my friend thought I had it trimmed because the ends look so much healthier. Thanks for the tips!

Melli: OMG I just did this and got the most amazing coils for my just wavy hair.

A B: Love your channel girl! I have the same hair type as you. Although I'm still transitioning I've gotten about 70% of my curls back with only 3 months in to my CG journey! I feel like i have to finger coil to get the lasting definition, otherwise my curls have a lil mind of their own lol.

Nouf Alosaimi: I have recently discovered this technique and it was a LIFE SAVER! i seriously hated my hair before.no definition. But this simple technique made the curls defined as if i used a curling iron.no heat TOTALLY recommend it. And i liked the advice about the two directions so they wont become a big chunk, i will try it next time XOXO from kuwait ♥️

Seachelles 7: Thanks so much for this! I have transitioning, dyed, damaged hair that’s a mix from 2A to 3A and this looks like it might work for my curls/texture. Your hair is great and such shiny, defined goals!

Zakia Fawcett: This is so great for me! I have perfect ringlets under my hair but the top hair can become very unstructured and messy. Can't wait to try!

Dragonhammer Soulbreath: *finally* some one who separates her curls *on camera*! I always mess up my hair after coiling, twist outs, etc. Thank you

moviesmag1971: Thanks for such an informative video! I’m a newbie CG and still learning. Your spiral method makes sense for my hair type and next styling time, I’m all over it!

Kayla Enlow: We have almost the same hair type and curl pattern. I’m so excited to try this method!

Katelyn Gonzalez: I saw this method a few months ago and I've been trying it ever since. It really does work the curls form beautiful It actually does train your curl pattern. I noticed the days I don't take the time to finger coil, my hair ends up drying in a coil by itself anyway. I definitely recommend ✨

Olivia Do: I have 2c hair I'm in my transitioning phase in getting my natrual curl back. I'm so excited to start doing this. I think it will help. Although I've used Deva Curl ultra gel and wave maker they both dried out my hair. I've been using Curls blueberry Bliss Gel and Shea Moisture leave conditioner. It's doing an okay job. Still searching for a good gel.

Carissa C: Oh my god thank you so much!! I’ve always had long hair (22-26”) up until my brain surgeries a couple years ago. I never knew how curly my natural healthy hair is (3B) but as it grows the thickness is weighing it down. I don’t like heat & rods are annoying to me so thank you for showing how to encourage my curls as it’s growing!!! ❤️

Berchy Zgb: Yes gurl, curls popping I can't wait for my hair to grow, it was long like yours, now it's to my neck for months, and I thought it would grow fast since it's short, but it actually grows slower and congraaaats on 50k I'm so happy for you ❤

CJ Jimenez: I am so glad I found your videos I cannot find anybody that has such an exact curl pattern and type as me with fine hair you are awesome keep it up girl you’re gorgeous!! Thank you!

Kiera: we have literally the same type of curls and the same thickness/texture from what I can see. I've only started my curly hair "journey" about a year ago and I look back at your older videos and my hair looks almost the exact same as you but blonde. I hope to get to the gorgeous curls you have in this video!

Flor Rangel: Thank you for this !!! I just started my “curly” hair journey , I have 2a waves and I tried the brush handle method but i don’t feel coordinated enough for it and this is much simpler , gonna try on my next wash day :)

Heather: Wowww!! Thank you so much for this video. I have been struggling to finger coil and actually achieve a nice curl for about the past FIVE washes! Smh. I used to only curl one time and it didn't do much... kind of even straightened some pieces. Now I do it about 3 times over and I got some great curls!! Yass! Thanks again!

Yasani Valerio: It looks so cute I love it and going to try it out! Thank you! ❤

Diane Bailey: Beautiful! I have the exact curl type. I had done the finger coil but not quite like you do. Your technique is better. Since I have a lot of hair and it’s thicker, I am ok with curling my hair in one direction and not separating the curls quite as much. I’m excited to do your technique. Thank you so much for the wonderful tips!!!

Life & DIY: I LOVE your hair. It is so beautiful. Thanks for making this video. I'm just curious, if you don't do the finger curls, do you still have a lot of spiraly curls? I didn't really know my hair was curly until recently and it's been interesting trying to figure things out. Your videos have been so helpful. I will try this technique again soon to see if I can create larger clumps because my hair has lots of little skinny curls and waves, somewhere between 2C and 3A. I am amazed at how straight your hair is when wet and how it looks when dry. Absolutely gorgeous! My hair tends to not get that drenched, no matter how I wash it (prob. related to porosity) and so the waviness or curliness starts pretty fast after I get out of the shower.

Cheri Palmisano: Girl yasss! I’ve been using my finger to help my daughter’s hair along (but she’s impatient so not as much as this) but didn’t really know it had a name LOL “finger coiling”. I like this. So glad I found your channel. I’m gonna check out these products. Especially whatever you’re using to comb/brush out knots.

Raynah Woolsey: I am so grateful I found your page. You’re so beautiful and I’ve changed my hair routine so much because of what you’ve taught me. My curls are living their best life and I use many of the products you have recommended. Thank you again for all your videos !

Miriam Stevens: I love your videos. The slo mo was good. I do this too and it’s definitely worth it as don’t have to use curling iron and it lasts a few days. Thank you , thank you , thank you.

Kelsey Mixer: Oh my gosh, thank you so much for your videos!! I think we might be hair twins? Like, I’m still in transition (didn’t even know I had curly hair until my early twenties, now late twenties) but on my best days it looks almost exactly like a much frizzier version of yours, with mostly 3A, some 2C, and the odd 3B thrown in. And it’s copper/red. And my name is even Kelsey... Wild. So yeah, now I have a hair role model to follow as I continue to heal this mess. You’re a godsend! <3

B. Smiles: Girl I’m so glad I’ve found your Chanel I’ve been watching video after video lol. I’ve just began to embrace my curly hair and these videos have been so helpful especially since I have the same hair as you. I honestly though all curly hair products worked the same and as time has past I’ve noticed their not and I thought it was my hair but it’s not it’s just the wrong type of product for mine

Thayra Cordoba: I've done the finger coiling on my crown area like you've done in your previous videos but I will definitely try this all around!!! thanks for this video

Amy Williams: I love this! I started doing this a week ago and my hair is so happy

Candle Caboodle: Gorgeous results! Finger coiling has helped my unruly curls in random places and the curls around my crown look so much more defined and spirally and it’s all thanks to your videos! ♥️

Vathes: Omg this works 100%!!! My hair is also a loose curl and when I did the finger method my hair came out absolutely beautiful

Lauren Kirton: KELLY!!! The final result is like making my heart -like- 3 sizes too big! GORGEOUS!!! I doubt you read all the comments, but OMG!!! Be still my heart with this- cannot wait to do it. Praise for girls doing something different than what urrrrrrrrybuddy else doing <3

RandomDani: I love this, so many people recommended this technique for my curly hair but I couldn’t find a good video explaining how to do it right. Thanks so much!

Emma Seay: I’m do glad I found your channel! My hair is about the same type as yours and I’ve been wanting to try finger curling for a while, thank you for the videos!

Gayle Groce: So glad you posted this! Trying it tomorrow, my crown curls are wonky so I'm hoping this helps.

House Lorebridge: Thank you for showing the technique! I have struggled to find curl help videos for my hair type (which is very similar to yours). Thank you, thank you!

Aalema Saiyed: It's so satisfying to watch you separate your curls! <3_<3 Your hair is gorgeous!

Jordan Sullivan: This is kind of mesmerizing. I totally want to try this (my hair is like 2c), but I'm worried I would spend like 2 hours and end up doing it wrong

Sandra Diaz: Absolutely gorgeous, thanks for sharing your technique . Can't wait to try it!

Ncc Y: i found you yesterday and i cant get over how similar our hair is because i have never seen anyone with 2c, 3a and 3b curls all in one like me, your hair is beautiful and so are you <3

KryptDOH!: lol. I love finding the clumps from time to time and separating them, too. It is really satisfying. I'm 2b and 2c (I used to blow dry my hair straight. I mostly air dry now as I'm sick of the hairdryer). Now my 2b hair curls at the tips! Love that and even my hair stylist noticed the change. I learned to finger coil from you and it really adds body to my thin, blonde hair. This tutorial showed me I'm not even finger coiling 1/2 as taunt as you do and can't wait to try that! Your my #1 Youtube for learning how to successfully transition to going naturally curly.

Emilie Lennvall: Wow! So beautiful! Thanks for the tutorial! :D

Miracle: I'm Samoan with thick Polynesian curly hair. I always straighten my hair because I didn't know how to style my curly hair or embrace my curls. Watching your videos made me love my curls and start practicing styling them like yours. I love these video of yours sis. Beautiful.

Just a Lauren: You made that look so so so easy! Beautiful!

Abigail Mun: watching her separate curls and watching the curls bounce back into tinier curls. soooo relaxing

Tessa Younger: Really cool idea. It doesn’t damage your hair. Really good step by step description, thank you.

Reina Potter: Finally, someone I found with the same texture as me! I never really know what exactly to do with my hair because it's not as curly as everyone else's but I love it anyways

SidneySays: Beautiful curls! Wish mine could do that!

Tanya Avoundjian: Hey Kelly! Your hair looks insanely gorgeous! Quick question: do you ever find that when you separate your curls, they end up curling back together within a few hours? My hair does this and it drives me wild! Do you know if there is any way to keep them separated?

Irma Gashi: Why is everyone calling her beyoncé? She looks more like shalissa to me

Lisa Jones: I'm going to try this tonight and wrap it for tomorrow morning thank you I'll give an update when I do it!!! Update: did this last night and this morning I blowdried it good side it was cute and came out better then I thought it would be.... bad side my hair is a mixture so sadly it didn't look like yours and look as full as yours but overall I loved it thanks for the video love❤❤

Meghan Workman: I'm definitely going to try this method starting now since my hair is very short, and hopefully it will encourage nice curls as it grows out longer.

Ariah Lea: Thanks for the details Kelly. Love your end result

Robin Brown: Your hair came out super pretty. My question is how much ACTUAL time did it take from start to finish (after washing) to do the products application you did here, and then the coiling, drying, separating. It's hard to tell because of the speeding up and cutting out most of the drying time. Was it 1 hour, 2 hours, less? Please let me know. Thanks! And thank you for inspiring us with your videos and demos - they are so helpful! Thanks!

Taylor Jones: Tomorrow is wash day so I'll definitely have to try this out!!! Thanks for the tip!

JoAnna The Singer: The hairdresser that helped me get/embrace my curls showed me finger-coiling, but in Texas, I only had to do a few, and only once in a while. I'm living in a much dryer climate and have been frustrated because my hair just hangs and the curl is "gone". I'm going to do this this morning and see what happens. Wish me luck!!!

Taylor Maurand: Ooh, I have a similar type of curl, and I want to try this! What do you think about air drying? It takes forever, but I find I get less frizz than even with a diffuser...

Athena Padilla: I've cut my layers like yours recently. It's so cute. Thanks for the inspiration. ;)

Leah Weiss: I never really cared before for finger coiling or doing anything to my hair after a shower. But wow! This technique is so amazing and leaves such beautiful defined curls! Thank you do much. P.S I love your bangs they're amazing!

Delilah Adielen: This video is heaven sent I just cut my hair & I’m stuck on how to get my straighter strands to coil. Thank you sm

Kayla Rodriguez: Great tutorial the hair on the crown of my head struggles to curl up so hopefully this will help my hair texture look consistent

Vidya Devarajan: Really helpful! Thank you. Gorgeous hair colour too!

Aira: How long does it take you to diffuse your hair? And on what settings?

ash terrell: Your video was so helpful I thought my curls would never cooperate until I saw your video it was so helpful and just you’re an angel I don’t know what I would’ve done without you it really helped them out and thank you

ItalianCurls: Beautiful! I've been using the finger coiling technique for a few years and it never fails. Great video and I will definitely give that gel a try.

Melissa Andrews: Love your videos! Keep ‘em coming. I tried B’Leave In because of you and I love it! Now I gotta try finger coiling.

Familia Quintanilla❣: Thank you Kelly for your tips and help!! Really help me with my daughter hair.

nat a beauty guru: I got stressed when you said it takes long at first and takes a lot of practice to get good at til you did it and I realized it’s the exact same thing I used to do to my hair when I’d done out in class when I was 13

KEVITA master-brew kombucha 505: Her: I only really make the top layer defined Me with thin hair: *what is this ‘layer’ you speak of?*

Randi Russell: I coil a couple pieces in the front of my face (I think I need to layer and face frame but I'm not sure) and I love it, so I should take time and try it with my whole head!

acres home: I have 3a/3b type curls and I am so glad I found thissss, I have naturally curly hair but they have kinda been going away over time with heat and stuff so I want to start finger coiling to train my curls

Jessica Ortiz Torres: Thank you for this video! My hair pattern is very similar to yours. I think I've been using heavier hair products which makes my hair heavy. I love Deva Curl but have not used the products you use. Will be trying this now!

Sunny All Day: Nice instruction about directions! You want to use both hands to ensure the curls go in different directions... that's what makes them extra pretty...if they all go in one direction it will look like you "did" your hair. Using both hands results in curls that go in all directions, and they will look totally natural.

Hot_Diggity_Dog: Lovee this video! Finaly someone with my exact same hair texture I get so excited when I learn new techniques about our stuborn hair type

Acelia C: Beautiful! Can’t wait to try.

GossamerWaits: I see a mix of Shakira and Beyoncé lol! You’re gorgeous

Mauritza M.M: I love your curly routine. I will take your advices the steps. I does use a brush comb to curl my hair but I think that's not the best thing to do. My ends does look fizzy . The brush does damage my ends. I will have to try the finger curl. Your beautiful and your is gorgeous. I did a big chop off. My hair looks more healthy and curlier

Jeana Hernandez: Thx for this video. You are the best at explaining techniques when it comes to curly hair. Super helpful

Trisha Livingston: Super helpful. Will try this next weekend. Takes 4-5 hrs to dry my hair.... best overnight. Nervous about final look but weekends can be experimentation time. Thanks so much.

Rachel Emery: Your. Hair. Is. GORGEOUS. And I’m going to try this technique! ❤️

Bloody Marine: This honey colour is the first thing that caught my sight. It is wonderful on you

Bee Field: Beautiful woman thank you, my hair is like a birds nest. Not anymore thanks to watching your videos! ♥️

Angelica Chavez: I'm so happy I found you. We have the same hair type and I really don't know what to do with it. I normally keep it wild and it gets frizzy. My cousin said I resemble Freddy Fender. So thank you. I subscribed. I can't wait to see what else you create on here.

C. T.: Hi I just want to say thank you for this tip! It's a game changer for me ❤

mom, com pick me up, i'm scared: Thank you, i tried finger coiling and my curls stray tied together the entire week

Sarah Judith: I finally tried this and it does look very good! I think its also not too time consuming... gonna do this when I wanna look extra good :)

sofiii ch: I just finger coiled my hair for the first time and OH MY GOD ITS AMAZING i have the same curl type as you and holy shit its like i used a curling iron

Giean: Whoa!!!! The results were awesome!!! Now I’m gonna try this out!

Amelia Sage: This is my natural hair pattern, I just have a few flat pieces I could totally use this on so it all matches

Gwendolyn Marrylin: How long does this entire process take? I'm in high school and time is a very valuable resource, but this is my desired look. Its so beautiful!

Lori: Love it! Can't wait to give this a try. Downside?....when my hair has great curl, my hubby can't keep his hands off of it. Compliment I know, just worried it messes up my curls. lol!

Sydney Lynn: Love this !! I never finger coil but I may try doing my crown area since it gets looser in that area. I haven’t tried DevaCurl wave maker before! I need to get that one. Do you like it better than the super and styling cream?

Ríta Geïn: That looks gorgeous!!!!!
