Hey Glamfam!

Today we are discussing why doing a patch test 24-48 hours before doing haircolor is so important! I have seen many people have severe allergic reactions and end up hospitalized behind trying to save time and soil this step. Please make sure that you do a patch test, ESPECIALLY if you have never had color before, it makes a world of difference.

❤️ As always, if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Until next time, take care, God bless, and stay Glam! You know I love you boo!

Good morning fam, so you remember how on the back of the hair color box, it always tells you that you need to do a 24 to 48 hour patch test. Let'S talk about that. So, on the back of a hair, color box is going to tell you two different things. The first is: do a strand test, that's to see how the color is going to take on your actual strands of hair, and usually it's just an isolated piece. The second is going to be a patch test which is usually done on the inner portion of the elbow here or on the inner portion of the wrist here. Some recommend on the neck: don't do it on the neck, for people who have never had hair color before you always want to ensure you do a patch test, because, if you're allergic to it, it can literally cause ice to swell shut. All that you can go back and watch the original video, but it gets far worse and some people can even cause issues like death hospitalization things like that, especially if they have a severe allergy to analyze derivative dies. Please understand it's always best to err on the side of caution, especially if you've never done color before for additional tips make sure to follow from

Cam chronicles: This man is gorgeous. Hair, skin, eyes voice , hair. Lord.. what was the video about ?

melliemel: That's literally what happens to me now. I had the same reaction and had to go to the ER to get a steroid to stop it. It really confuses me though because i used to dye my hair all the time in high school and college and out of nowhere I became severely allergic to all hair dyes so I don't touch them anymore. I can only use pure henna and indigo now.

Jermaine Au Natural: Wow! This is the first time I’ve seen that type of allergic reaction to dye. Patch test! Patch test!!! Excellent

Lailah Lynn: This happened to my mom when her stylist forgot she’s allergic to permanent dyes and can only do rinses. Her whole face was swollen.

Aisha Long: Hey Lin you look healthy & happy.. glad you back with hair tips.

SHE McG: ✨ My friend went n2 anaphylactic shock bc of allergies to hair dye; treated in ER, so thanks for this vital information! ✨

M Turner: Linwood, you’re sounding like Barry White today.

V Jones: Did this to myself 10 years ago. Been testing myself ever since!! Please do a patch test no matter what the package says!!❤

Sherlene A: This happened to my mother when I was a child. The reaction became so bad that she was knocking on deaths door but was able to turn a corner praise God! Thank you so much for educating everyone cuz it's no joke when this happens!

La Donna: Thanks for the reminder. I do it sometimes. But sometimes I forget. Also, do a strand and patch test even if it is a dye you have used before. As well all know, dyes and hair care products can change formulations. They might start putting in ingredients you are allergic to.

Destinyseeker: Oh my God! Thank you for this Boo, I will definitely be doing a strand test.

Charlotte Roberts: SMH! Education is key. I was never told this information before. Thanks Linwood

saundra brown: Thank you so much for sharing this bruh because I dyed my hair back in June and yes I noticed that my right eye had a little swelling for 6 days and now I know why.

Nedra Hines: Hey Linwood and family!!! Thanks for educating. I heard of one lady who developed an allergy over time, after getting her hair colored for YEARS. I love me some hair color and I grew out the blonde. Linwood - what are safe, nontransferable hair color options are there for natural hair? I want color and don't want to chemically alter it again.

Bonnie Peele: Hey Honey, Good to see you. Listen, dyeing my hair black, using drug store color, I have had to go to the emergency room twice in my life. The first time, my entire head was covered in boils within 24 hours. Received steroids (a 5 day treatment) and an injection while at the ER. My eyes swoll up and the lump nodes in my neck swoll. My ears were full of boils also. 10 years later, thought I'd try it again. Same exact thing happened. Forgot to add, first time and second, because of the swelling, my face distorted, I literally looked like a monster. Second time, I went to my primary physician who gave me the same treatment. He warned me to never use dye again because it was not promised that my face would look normal again. Never again. Listen to this gentleman, the negative reactions can really be devastating.

Akilah George: That was my brother when he dyed his hair black also. He fell asleep with it in his hair and woke up looking worse than that

Tara Walker: Good to know. We've been considering dying my daughter's hair.

thinkerfeelerdoer: Linwood, I just have to share this with you: You are so dam good at what you do and on top of that, you are providing an extremely valuable service to all people with hair. We love you so keep on doing you. Proud to be a member of your Glam Fam

Barbara Cook: As usual Linwood you're leading us on the road to safety . We trust and appreciate what you say. So to you.....thanks.

Betty Boop: I have NEVER known anyone to have a reaction to hair color!! I guess I'm one of those living under a rock kind of people. I've colored my hair since 18 thanks to relaxers burning my strands to a dirty brown!! Went natural 12 yrs ago and learned my hair is BLACK!!

It's Yours Truly: Hi Linwood. I have a few follow up questions. Could there be a delayed reaction to dye? How long after applying professional color could a reaction show on your scalp and what are some of the symptoms? When should you seek medical attention?

Erika Morrison: I had a doc compliment me on my grays. She said hair dye, especially darker colors increase cancer risk by 9%. Like wth! So, officially not dying my hair anymore since then. I was already done with it when the only good colorist I've ever had moved to another country. My hair picks up the undertones more than the actual color so I've ended up with purple and orange when trying to go red. Once my girl left, I gave up. Premature gray it is. Now you saying allergic reactions...I'm so, so good. My grays are now white, so, I guess I'm just stuck looking like an old lady.

alexxdaye1: My aunt is SEVERELY ALLERGIC to hair dyes! Almost killed her!!! Thanks Linwood, you know folks ain’t reading those directions!‍♀️

Ms Williams: See this is why I love you! I've never dyed my natural hair but I've been thinking about it and I never would've thought something like this could happen.

Carla Smith: Listen to this man! He knows what he is talking about! I tried permeant color one time. All my hair fell out and my scalp was swollen. I’m just going to go gray gracefully. I feel bad for that lady.

Tish Payne: Facts. Much love and appreciation for your cosmetology knowledge Lim. #GlamFam

P. JaJa: This is vital safety information, don't ignore it always test first and test often if you color your hair because the companies can change the formula and what was okay the last time might not be okay this time. You're beautiful anyway but be safe

Curious George: You always safe with your client hair, I’m in good hands with the services you provide

MS FRECKLES: Nobody does this when doing their own hair at home. I'm so guilty. However this happened to my cousin and she had to be rushed to ER.

S M: A true hair specialist; a master of his craft.

Mrs Robinson 9075: Not many ppl speak on the patch and strand test I learned this years ago both reading the box when I started coloring my hair and when I went to cosmetology school y'all be cautious what you put on your skin and hair everything is not for everyone ♥️♥️♥️

mangana215: With anything related to chemicals near the face is always good advice to do a test on the sensitive part of the arm

Divine Chakras: I’m allergic to PPD…and did not know until I had an entire reaction that almost closed my throat shut. Worst two weeks of my life years later got a temp tattoo and it had PPD in it…. Literally my entire arm was swollen and had a chemical burn

poetress82: I love your channel because I don't think some people realize that hair is more that just looking good. It is literally a part of our health and body. Keep up the great teaching and informing!

JadeFoxx: I do everything to my hair except hair color. Box dyes do not do anything to my head. Won't dye a strand of hair, but this is actually extremely important to note. And I hope that the lady is doing much better now.

Carlis Crawford: This happened to me I was allergic to the permanent dye look y'all both my eyes was shut swollen l had dark purple bruise around my eyes my whole head plus forehead was swollen like a damn Halloween pumpkin I was messed up and to top it off my head was in so much of pain like my head was hurting so bad y'all mine was worst then this but the pain omfg I cried so hard asking GOD to take the pain away I was like that for a couple of days people please take the patch test ( please ) I only can use the semi dye only oh and please pay attention to the date on the box also

T J: My mom used a hair color and did a DR miracle relaxer the same day….. it ate all of her hair off from ear to ear. She was forced to go natural for years, but now she goes to a salon regularly

Ms. Yogi G.: Omg!!! I had the worst hair color experience ever. I was 47, not my first color. The 3rd degree burn on my scalp, face, neck and ears. The pain was unbelievable.

Dark_Tarot: Also, let's STOP doing what we USED TO DO to our hair/mama used to do to our hair... A lot of what we/mama nem did damaged our hair and it shouldn't continue to be done.

Gina ATTLADY: Yes my sister she dyed her hair twice in her life. Both times she looked like the elephant man afterwards. I remember coming home from school and didn’t even recognize her. Scalp drained awfully.

Julia Cowser: FACTS! We are actual taught this in school, but never did it even in school. Most cosmetologist are style focused and will damage you and your hair in the name of style.

Ms T: Might I also recommend that even if you don't have a reaction TODAY...every time you color do a patch test. Your body chemistry can change with certain factors.

Shycurves: Yes this happened to my mom and my little sister was so shocked that she didn't want my mom to bring her to school because she looked like Quasimodo

Talks With Cookie: No seriously. I would do this every time you never know how your body changes. I have gotta waxed many times. However when I went to esthetician school no matter what we used I had a allergic reaction to all the waxes. Don’t set yourself up for not listening

Mary Wright: I know Right!!!! Don’t care what he brings it’s always informative & I am always here for it.

gracesix: This was great to find out! Where can we watch her original video? I’m very curious to see how bad her allergies got.

VaBarbie187: How old (or young) should you be before getting a semi-permanent dye job. My 11yr old is pestering me for a dye job. I bought her the As I Am color dye that washes out in the shower but it isn’t working for her. She wants to be able to have the color in her hair and then be able to flat iron her hair.

Nia X: I just checked your store, I don’t see any hair color I need to know which brands are “safe” with my curly hair. I’m depositing color, only - covering gray hair. Any suggestions will be _greatly_ appreciated. I will do a patch test

Chaunda Sumara: Glad to have you back to educate us. Keep teaching

tikigoddess23: Alanine derivative hunnay! Everyone IS NOT A COSMETOLOGIST! Don't let YouTube "Stylists" trick you baby! It takes longer to become a hairstylist than it does to become a cop. 2 years to legally carry a curling iron... 6 months to carry a gun. Let that sink in.

Ms. Tee: Glad to see u ☺️ Education is the ️

Colinthia Walker: Linwood sounding like it's eaarrrrrllllyy in the morning, but me likes lots.

MIKA POWELL: Even if you have had your hair dyed before apparently you still need to do a patch test which didn't know. I went to watch the original videos the young lady posted and she stated that she had been dying her hair for years about every 4-5 months, same dye and everything. Moral of the story ALWAYS do a PATCH test.

DAME Brooks: I had my hair colored by a "professional" and he did not give me a patch test. Luckily, I was not allergic.

Coffey Baldwin: Thank you. Life saving info!

Just Me: Extremely true because my aunt had blisters all over her scalp and forehead. Scalp & face inflammation so horrible she looked like the elephant man. She ended up in ER eyes swollen shut and required multiple shots. She stayed home for almost a month.

TheodoreBakes: Oh wow this should be viral to get it out more. I've never heard of this happening I'm not an avid box dye user but wow

꧁ღSwnsasyღ꧂: See, and people KEEP telling me, "No just do it and stop being so slow." Mhm.. Found out I'm allergic to TCB products.. Now think of what would have happened if I did my hair!

zheahra: I needed this info. I want to color my hair. I haven't had a color in years.

Holly Bland: Wow… well that’s some powerful information . Thank you !

Charon Faulk: I love your hair it's so pretty and shiny

JamaicanJoy H: aesthetically beautiful..imho keep teaching us

Kessiah Santana: I can’t concentrate on the advice and knowledge when there is a high level of fineness and sex appeal in the way ❤️❤️❤️

BritbratnextDoorT.V: I don’t see the point and dying my hair anymore thankgod I love & appreciate my hair the way it is and if I want color I would just throw a wig on instead of unnecessarily damaging my hair.

Angie Gingerbreadman: I had an allergic reaction to perms. So no perms . This was interesting

deborah sampson: Great information. I never knew the reason for the instructions. Although I knew it must have been a good reason

Tamika Baker: Hey Fam, I've been seeing a lot of videos for a Gina curl. Do you know anything about it? Is this geared for black natural hair. It looks like jheri curl without the greasy mess.

Goddess of Many Waters: Tested in the past and stopped because I use the same brands. I only plan to change to using natural one but know to patch test before I try it. But I'm wondering if they are adding ingredients and people who all of a sudden are allergic are allergic to a combination of the added ingredients ✨♓

Jasmine Burton: Thanks for sharing this vital information

Lorna Nunez: Been there! Done that! more than once, ER Visits ended up in glasses,

Priestess Cici: Thanks Love for the GOOD reminder.

cease19811: I dyed my hair when I was in high school everything thing seemed to be fine but the next day every was swollen I couldn't even open my eyes I was so scared I was still a kid

Lunna Locca: I’ve never known this I just slap anything on my head lol

Blackwidow456: My mom had to be hospitalized for a bad allergic reaction to permanent hair color

Tahjjj: Linwood on his Barry White educating us!

Demi Matthews: This baby is gorgeous

Shawntia Morgan: Yes this has happened to me several times was looking like Will Smith on hitch... When he got stung ... What kind of dye do you suggest? I Kno Bejein (spell check) the hair dye... Is the one that I have a allergic reaction to. ‍♀️

Tina Davis: Yes my husband never got to hair dye he started getting gray hair getting a little salt and pepper and his uncle's girlfriend died his hair and he said every time he comb his hair falling out

Barbara Williams: You is so caring. Thanks for the hair tips. Keep it coming. Just my opinion but I think you should have been a dermatologist. You are so professional.

Claudia Schmitt: What is the reason beauticians never do the patch test in salons?

Carlita Washington: My Mama used to go through this but her forehead would swell up. This was before I was born but she said one time she could look up and see her forehead. She went to the doctor (again) and this time her speech sounded like she had a severe sinus infection. Her doctor yelled, “Do you want to die?!” My Mom said no, he said “then stop dying your hair, you’re allergic!” She hasn’t dyed it since. I thought she was the only one who went through something like this til I saw this video.

Donna Coleman: Mr. Linwood, you are prince beautiful...

Kenya N. MBA ⚜: I don’t know what he’s saying, he’s gorgeous and that voice ☺️☺️☺️

Blackwidow456: Good to see you Linwood

A.M.B.: So true! Thank you.

Ms. SWright: He is so handsome, cute, sexy. Pick one, either one works.

Rose Vinson: Coloring your hair which I did for years, the dye goes into your brain what kind of damage is it causing!!!!!!!!

Iamspeaking66: WHO ARE YOU?!? WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?!? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!? AND PLEASE TELL US YOU ARE HERE TO STAY?!? I’ve learned a ton of things in such a short time as I happened upon your vlogs here. HASHTAG #️⃣ The honesty is REAL. ✅❤️

Shannon Armstrong: Thanks for the advice

P.G. Mac: Oh my gosh, your eyes are beautiful.

Blue Kitty: My $125 ($175 w/the tip) silk press was an afro within hours.

Tyard OvdaBULLDH!T: Dude has a future in voice overture work!

Colette Mallory: Wow! I did not know this. I’ve never done color before.

J Baby: Thissss is sooooooo true!!!!
