Thanks for being Part Of The FSE FAMILY!

All right, so it's a disgusting day in New Hope, but we're doing some great hair still. I hope you guys enjoyed yesterday's video about curly hair and the structure of curly hair. I put a lot of time into that and I think I got my point across, but I'm not sure, but the comments seem to be pretty positive. So thank you guys for that today. What we're going to focus on we're going to go over layering long hair here is the end result of the mannequin that we cut today, like I said it's a lot of movement and a lot of layers, so I think you guys going to get a lot Out of that, it's not as long as I would have liked it to be, but it wasn't because I took length off. It was just because mannequins don't have that long, a hair, so this can be transferred into a longer haircut. So don't be worried about that. But it does have a ton of movement. You can see all the layers through the back through the side, so this could be a face frame haircut in this style. We styled it back. We used a round brush, so a lot of cool steps in this haircut. I think you guys are gon na like it. So let's get started with our step by step. Here we go oh and before we start the step-by-step, I want to make sure that, in the comments below the comments, are my favorite part of these videos so post in the comments? What you think of the video? Also, what you want to see next and hit that like button and share this video with your friends Thanks, alright guys so we're gon na start off. This is the carving comb which I have used in previous haircuts. I love this tool, so I'm going to show you guys another haircut with that this is going to be a long, layered haircut. It'S very simple and that's you know what I like about it, because it's so salon friendly. So I think you guys are going to enjoy this cut, we're going to start off our sectioning by taking out a you section below parietal Ridge, so right below the ridge of the hair. You can see that sectioning we're going to start by creating a face frame. This is what I love about: the carving comb, I'm figuring out how much weight I want to leave in this face frame, and then I'm basing my elevation on that. So my elevation is kind of medium. I could raise it up if she had thicker hair or I could lower it if she had skinning her hair just to keep some of that density, but we're coming straight out from the head. That'S going to create our face frame. Now I'm going to go in same thing on the other side, I'm using the carving comb wide. I like the wider teeth on this just for freedom of quickly working through the hair. If I was working on a tighter shape, I would definitely go with the carving comb fine and you can see I'm using it pretty much like a pencil and just drawing in those lines. So that's that's the quick face frame right there. Now I'm going to take out the top. The cool part about this cut is I'm going to literally comb the entire top of the head forward. You can see that whole u-shape, I'm bringing it into my hand, and I'm going to start figure out where I want that guideline to start in the for the fringe area and I'm just going to carve through this entire section. What that's going to do is layer. The entire haircut for me put a pop of volume in the top of the head and and pretty much finish, the haircut I'm going to go through with the 50 % carve side and take out a little bit of weight on the ends. Just to add a little bit of texture - and that is the haircut you can see how quick that comes together and then I'll go through and clean up, my baseline, just by using the 100 % carve side of the carving comb. So such a simple haircut, but you can do this haircut all day long in the salon and we all know time is money. So this is definitely a quick technique to get a long, layered haircut and get something kind of new and fun. So I'm going to go through now, I'm going to do a round brush blow dry. I want to bring out my ergo brushes and show you guys a quick round brush technique with this. Now I wish the mannequin, like I said in the in the beginning of the video I wish the mannequin had longer hair to really work with this haircut would be great on even longer hair, but this is what we have to work with with a mannequin. I'M going to use two round brushes at a time. A lot of you guys have probably tried this before, but if you haven't it works really well, because I leave one round brush in to cool. While I blow-dry my next sex, then I take it out as I work through. That just allows, because you want the heat to set in the hair cool off and then your cuticle layer will be set where you want it. So I'm working on diagonal sections going through using my eggo dryer and ergo brush, which I really enjoy the power of the blow-dryer, and then these brushes are just second to none. Any of you guys out there that have used the Ergo brushes they're really really awesome. The handle is super long. The barrel is super long, so you can work big sections at a time and get a lot more work done. Alright, so you'll notice that I'm working on a diagonal forward which is going to push the weight of this blow-dry off of the face. That'S really what my goal was: I'm pretty much coming straight out from the head. I do like to work back and forth a little bit just to add a little flexibility to the the base of the hair, but for the most part, just diagonal forward straight up out of the head, creating as much volume as I possibly can. In the haircut same thing, on the opposite side, working diagonal forward again, keeping that nozzle on the blow-dryer, if you guys have taken the nozzle off your blow-dryer but still have it, I would try when you're working with a round brush, definitely put the nozzle back on The dryer, because that's going to help with the airflow, it's going to help the airflow move over the cuticle, and you know it's just going to help with your blow-drying keeping the cuticle smooth on the hair. All right now we're going to work the fringe area. What you're going to notice is, I go one way and then I work it back the other way, what I'm doing there and you can't really see it that well. This is what happens when you film yourself, but I go back and forth because I'm keeping flexibility in the fringe. I really I'm going to have my guest in this particular blow-dry, where her hair back off of her face. So I wanted that flexibility in that movement in the haircut so we'll add a little bit of hairspray he's in our picado hairspray and I'm just going to go through with my hands brush the hair back and then work it forward. What that's going to do is kind of pop that volume up and you can see how those layers just come to life. It'S a nice rounded shape for the haircut, so I hope this inspires you guys and gives you something to do today. Thank you. So much for watching, and we will see you guys on the next video did. I mention I love when you leave comments and like the video make sure you do that before you stop watching Thanks.

EGORElicious: Wow, I love that technique! I'm going to have to try it!

Emily: I absolutely love the technique and the end result. The thing that worries me is how super quick and easy it is, I feel like guests might look at a technique like that and think, "well I can just comb all my hair forward and do that myself!"

Juan Rojas: loved it! amazingly done, precise and quick. like you said, time is money.

Gabriella Greer-Benedict: WOOOW, that was great. I'm in a small town in a salon that doesn't do any advanced education. I really look forward to your videos. I'm pulling out my carving comb and practicing that technique. you seriously just blew my mind.

Allison W: Love watching these videos before I head to work! Question: do you more often do flat wrap blow drys or round brush blowouts on clients in the salon? I want to try to do the flat wrap on clients because I feel like it's easier on my wrists, but I feel weird blowing they're hair everywhere and covering their face with hair like you do with your mannicans. Maybe you could do a short video showing us your technique! Thanks! -from Nova Scotia, Canada

Tracey Gavidia: You make it look so easyyyyyy! Thank you so much for the fresh perspective

Julianne718: I really love that haircut! I’m tempted to cut my almost waist length hair to that length and style!

Anissa Zepeda: You are so refreshing Matt! You're not only showing us a different style of haircutting you're teaching us how to think outside the box. I've had the Paul Mitchell carving comb for a few years now and have only used it a few times. I'm so gonna use it to try out this cut.

Amanda Cararini: Thank you for the super salon friendly inspiration!

Tommy Hartman: I love the simple face frame that is a little disconnected from the top to the sides. I've seen you do them starting with the side panels and then the top. I love the way it looks. I dream of the Donald Scott combs. Question: I am curious to see a cut on a live client especially for those with challenging hairlines (widows peaks/high foreheads)?

Tamieka Holmes: That was THEE BEST layer hair cutting tutorial I seen thus far... cut throat and to the point I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDS thank you for having a heart and sharing your talent

Rene'e Australia: Hi Matt, great hair cut and amazing how you can move through a hair cut like that so quick with a razor. If using scissors instead of razor would the sections taken be much different. Great result luv the amount of movement.

The Warehouse Salon: Hi Matt, do the ergo brushes cool fast? I find wood core brushes cool and set better, than my metal core brushes. Thanks for all the great videos.

Larry Hernandez: Matt, did this cut twice now. But I have a question regarding situation I came across while using this. I love it the most because I can fly through the cut. But after taking the crown forward and razoring the entire section, because everything from the back travels across the fringe area doesn't really over direct at all really and it basically gives her a bang. If you want her shortest layer to sit below her chin... What do you suggest to do. I took out a triangle in the fringe and cut it separate but wondering if you had better insight.... Thanks again Larry. #fse #freesaloneducation

Sheila Koo: Awesome , I'm not sure if you've done a video yet on this but it'd be nice if you could show how to prep the hair before cutting? Like what products to use to keep the hair moist and not dry out as fast while cutting. Thanks for the very informative videos .. Love them

miss china: wow u make it look so easy! I want one of those razor things! super quick

Katelyn Fraser: So how do you know that the top section blends with the length underneath in the back? Is it because it was all pulled to the front so that will make it blend? There wont be a disconnection?

crystal heffermehl: Also another Great video, I'll be doing this one with my new Donald Scott Carving Comb also ! Thanks again! #hairdresserstoys

Mickey Bolek: I love this cut Matt. Can you explain the angle to hold the carving comb in the next video you use it in?

OnyxFaith aka Chelle: I know you tend to prefer precision cuts, but I really enjoy seeing you work with a razor.

DariaunSoSweet: This video was great. I like watching FSE. It's just awesome watching you and your team do hair. I'm not a hairstylist or anything. I'm subscribed to you and I follow FSE on Instagram. Is there a way I can request you to do a Bob haircut that I'm actually getting from my Beautician this weekend. I have a picture.

๋Jamie Chomduang: Hi. Matt. By using a razor to cut the hair. Is it good for the hair? I loved this cut. It is very quick and simple. Is it suit for any face shape? Jamie Melbourne Australia

Lee Sennett: Really awesome video. Great job.

Teresa A Browning: does this create a disconnect between the sectioned-top to the bottom-back if the hair is much longer?

Ann Stanfield: I love this cut! What do I ask for at my salon in order to get it. I would love to show my stylist the video, but I'm sure she won't want to watch it just to do my hair. LOL

Dylan Valentine: hii! beautiful cut! what side of the carving comb did you use for the face frame ?!

Kristin Mouton: Would this work on someone with long fine hair to give fullness and movement without making the hair to thin?

Sadia Khan: Watching your videos make me to become a hair stylist...great work

Brandon McCauley: Just discovered you about a week ago and I'm pretty much caught up with all your videos!!!! This has helped me so much I can't explain it. However I was wondering if you were planning on more like longer men's cut in the future. Oddly enough that's my weakest point! I'd love for your input.

Dylan Valentine: Beautiful haircut! How bout a video on how to cut curly hair? :)

Enga lar: wooo .. good idea ..i am going to try .. thank you so much for this video .

Samuel albritton: Here is how you could improve your videos. After you make a cut show us how it falls; the layers and the face frame. Let us know if it works for middle parts and side parts. When you make a cut on the whole top section I'm wondering how did he choose the length. Hey you are the bomb, this is not an insult. I totally appreciate what you guys do and I think you are the best hair people on YouTube. I'm just an apprentice and my boss doesn't explain shit. Maybe one day do a video on over direction and elevation with examples. I'm making cuts with out fully understanding how the hair is going to fall as with that main top cut you do in this video. Again, just a suggestion and I think you are a wonderful teacher and your videos are amazing.

Stacy Kinser: i am going to try this one now on my hair.

Susan Strijbosch: Love it!

steffers841: Love our videos, thank you!!
