Hi, I'm Timmy and today I'm going to be doing a mid-length to long layered haircut as you can see. Her hair is pretty long right now and we're going to take it to about here - and it's really thick in here - we're also going to be decreasing. Some bulk in this area we're going to cut her length. I wanted to get it about right here for her sides, I'm just going to comb them down and then pull them back into the rest back here. So we don't touch the shoulder part there, because you don't want the hair to lay over the shoulder, because then it's not going to be. Even so, you have returned her head and I'm just going to cut the length on her sides we're just going to cut off that corner. You can always cut more off later I sectioned her hair and like a rounded V right where it starts to angle up high and we're going to layer this in here. First, you pull my first section all out like this straight from the head. At a 90 degree angle, I'm just going to pull it straight out and I'm going to cut that corner off right. There follow that, through on both sides, when you get towards the side of the head, you want to over direct that back can compensate for that. Concave right here by the ear, so what you do is you direct that back so then, when it falls down, it's going to fall down nice and full okay. Now I sectioned off my rounds. I actually sectioned off to where the head starts rounding down. So I've rounded off this top section. Now I'm going to be doing this section here going up and around while I do this section here, I makes you're going to be rounding. My fingers and it's all going to be rounded, so we're going to bring this up and around we're going to bring this up, and I'm also going to round out my finger. So it's an around of a rounded shape and normally a much nicer and again I'm over directing just a section right here above the ear over-direct that back a little bit. You don't have to cut all the way up here. If you don't want to. If it's too much to keep holding your hands up high, you can actually section it off. Pull out your section. You'Re going to cut and drop then cut, but you just have to make sure you have a very tight grip on the hair and that the hair is not going to move like this section. Here is going to be directed back. Then I'm going to use that same guide and direct it forward, I'm going to take the middle section of her sides and pull those up and out a very frontal hairline we're going to drop those back into the middle section, the hairline it's good to over direct That back and you can always clean it up after you're done okay, so she wants some more layering up in the top. So what I'm going to do first, is I'm going to pull it all up there make sure you going to twist the top around like this, and I'm just going to cut that piece right there. Now I'm going to go through it and just sort of point cut into it. So now what I'm going to do is I'm just going to connect this all around and round this out a little bit more, I'm going to go right in there. Just with my scissors and point cut, I'm going to be connecting the top with the sides on the top, with the crown by point cutting everything in a rounded fashion. So I'm going to connect everything together by point cutting it out, but at the same time I'm still rounding my fingers. So it's still rounded, but I'm just using the point cutting technique now we're going to frame it around her face. I'M just going to do this with my scissors and I'm going to point cut into it. Okay, now I'm just going to blow-dry it I'm going to use redkin satin ware, you, okay, these are the results from our haircut. She'S got a lot of layers now. So that's it!

Krissy Joy: I love how simple you explain this and I really understand everything you are doing! Thank you!

Fiona: Thank you for sharing! Your instructions were very easy to follow. I just followed this tutorial to cut my sister's hair and she loves it!!

Emily-Ann Hill: I took a two month leave the week I was supposed to go out on the floor and I forgot everything about cutting. This video is a tremendous help. While my floor instructor is great with ethnic hair it has been frustrating trying to re-learn haircutting with her. Keep up the good work! (PS- this is not really criticism or anything so don't take it the wrong way..., but I think your tension screw in your shears are too tight. They shouldn't be so loud. You don't want to dull your shears! )

Wizzlestein S: I just have to tell you how refreshing it is to see a clear and to the point tutorial like this. Please keep it up! I feel like your videos are the only ones I've seen without fluff or gimmicks and I actually LEARN something from!

Frederica Bimble: This is the BEST instructional video I've seen on this site so thank you for taking the time to upload it. It's crystal clear. I was a hairdresser 20 years ago and just wanted a reminder and this helped me alot. Thanks, again.

Pacifico House: You have the best tutorials I've found on cutting hair with layers- ever! Keep filming and teaching, sister! -Patti Pacifico

John DeLeon: wow thanks for making an informative and easy to understand video. my wife has RIDICULOUSLY long hair and is making me cut it so hopefully i dont mess it up! thanks to you. i probably wont!

P O: Wow you make that hair cut look soo easy! Great job!

Sweetjohnny: hahaha! 'your scissors are making noise', are you kidding me!? this is an excellent video that tells ppl exactly what they need to know to cut layers into medium long length hair. i followed this video to cut my girlfriends' hair recently and it worked out really well. thank you tammy for a clear, easy to understand tutorial :)

linda vago: . i have been watchin tammy videos for about a year now. I feel more and more secure about doing haridressing, most people that come into the school for student-haicuts wants simple haircuts, layered, medium cuts, bob and nothing too sophisticated. And Tammys videos are the best for that. I am strongly recommending them, and do not go for the other fancy videos on youtube, they can confuse unexperenced hairdressers, cos they go for stage-cuts. Plus Tammy sais what she is doing and WHY,

puppymoomoo: How do I accurately describe this method of layering to my hairdresser without having to show them this video? I think you are a truly amazing stylist :)

fleshylocust: thank you for this, this is helpful for beginners!

Goldi Das: Hi Tammy! your utube hair tutorial helps me a lot because i just open a beauty parlor. It improves my skills. By the way, can you please upload a video of a feather style hair cutting and a square layers...thanks!

Witty Vixen: I thought this was real neat. I like how you can hear how she cuts the hair and the snipping. You can tell her shears are very very sharp. And her sections are very clean and neat. Beautiful!

Chichiou 12: Very nice hair cut, I love it thanks

Lindsay B: love your videos! sad to say, but i learned more from you then most of my teachers in cosmetology school... anyways, if the client did not want so many layers like you did in this video.. instead of twisting the top and chopping off that sectgion, would you just direct the entire section up on a 180 degree angle and then connect the sides? thanks and keep it up!

Dorna Johnson: thanks again for a well informed way of layering long hair.

Katarina S.: Thanks for the detailed, simple instructions. It looked good, but I wish that you'd shown the client from the front though. We only got to see the sides & back of the finished product. Do you have any pictures of this from different angles that you could share?

Anastacia: Love it keep up the AWESOME work

Gstefani: HI tammy, Your haircut tutorials are great! Do you have a video made about extra long layered men's haircut? I'm having a hard time making my xtra long men's hair look masculine and less feminine. PLease help. Thank you.

snix-mcnicky: The layers take weight out of hair. Think of it like you cut somebody who has very thick and straight hair and you cut all one length it has a "triangle" silhouette to it, if you remember her referring to taking out "bulk" in the hair and think about how she was layering it you see that you can take "bulk" or "weight" out by layering the hair....Hence letting your hair draw up and curl a bit because the hair is shorter in the layers.

skeetskeet85: I am in school right now for barber/cosmetology .. your videos are very very helpful! I'm more of a visual learner and I read Milady's textbook as well as watching your tutorials .. wish I would of found u sooner but .. ur videos are very helpful! R u a teacher? Well thank u for posting b/c uv helped a hopeful cosmetologist! (I'd really like to specialize in doing makeup/up-dos) Ur awesome! :)

Lu Kh: I like it one of my favorite, thank you for sharing it .

Lyric WasHere: My rule for my hair is if I don't like my stylist's hair cut or hair style I won't let you cut my hair..It's a rule everyone should live by.. I like watching this kinds of vids because they relax me and I can fall asleep!

iluvrvandav: I LOVE <3 YOUR VIDEOS!! THANKS FOR POSTING!

Anita Lee-Yu: wow..u made hair cutting so easy...thnx so much!!!

Jao Correia: I want to say that I really appreciate the way you go over every step sides and guideline, can you please make a video of how to make a haircutting tutorial, because every other video out there is too darn hard to follow. Ur cuts rock, your blow drys, umm could be better. Luv u anyway

hmmngbrds: very helpful video! congrats!

TatiHatesEverything: i LOOOOOOVE your videos! thank you for this!!

realvanillahair: @favatat ...agree!!! :) keep up the good work....we all learn from each other, appreciate your efforts :)

my3boyskkb: i think that you would make a good instructor, some make their videos so complicated...really helpful for students and new hairstylist.

Lacehairwigs: you give the best tutorials.thank you

Stavros Pashalidis: Well I buy one brand of shampoo, then switch to another as soon as that ones done. It lasts about a month and a half to two months on average per bottle of shampoo and conditioner. I also put oil in my hair to keep it strong. I also use a wide tooth comb. Is there anything you think I should do to help my hair along? I keep getting split ends at the back area of my head and that's bugging me a lot because I try to keep my hair healthy.

Xx3Tinkerbellx3X: I have knee length hair and have never cut it, but I had to choose someone to do it, I would choose you, I think you're amazing :)

jazesjas: i love the way you cut the hair it look like you are very organize and clean making sections is very important. thanks for your videos..

jsnwelsch17: Nice Finished look ! Ilove styling Hair Especially Before I do The Haircut That Gives Better results Because Wet Hair Lies! 20 Years of Hair cutting Has taught me That One thing Will always be true ! Remember hair shrinks a little when it dries!

lv89015: I would love to see her finish style. I love layered styles, thanks for tis vid

Stavros Pashalidis: What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you recommend for a 19 year old male with long shoulder length hair? I try and go with anything sulfate free, but is there anything you recommend?

fabuless funkeez: good job and u have excellent teaching skills... thanx

choc lover: that is a great tutorial, can you please recommend the best scissors for cutting hair?

sammy eaglz: does bringing the hair out at a 90 degree angle create the same look as bringing all of the hair straight up? i was taught to bring all the hair straight up for a layered look, but im was too short to do this and its very difficult for me .ty.

judydatsme: i love your videos. best ever ! thanks alot. ;)

미셜비: Can men with medium length hair get a layered haircut too? I'm a young asian male (21 yrs old) and most of my asian male friends grow out their hair to medium (shoulder) length and they really get into styling them the "asian" way. So my only question is would it help me if I got a layered haircut with the "asian" male hairstyle that I want to do?

SingingTrainer: Great stuff! Any chance you have a medium length layered haircut like Katie Melhua? Please please please?

Ruby Tuesday: Proof that we all cut differently... I use the top layer as the guideline.

Lohith Laiq: Very stylish and healthy

Brenda Lagunas: U Have helped me soon much!!

chris ronan: after u sectioned it in V and when u are doing the layers at the back u just show the back do u do the sides also at 90 degrees and then go back to the crown and bring it up and do round layering from crown around to the front sides again ?

GiverSSJ: Would you consider this haircut just below shoulder length?

fiorela alberto: What (brand) of Scissor are you using? They seem like they cut REALLY good!!!????? :D

dcdddddd1: It looks nice.

nazia mirza: very nice this haircut I like .

Kirsten_Matyus: Can you take layers out?? I have had my layers ever since I was little and now i don't like them anymore and I was wondering if they can get taken out by my hairdresser

Alicia Olson: everytime when i get a haircut, i get my hair layered!!!!!!!!!!!! recently i had a haircut and i had my layers little shorter...my hair is long again but im not getting a haircut for awhile.

Laraib Khan: Idk why I just watched a 7 minute video of someone cutting someone else's hair when i know i will NEVER do this...

Tammy Laughter: could you make a video showing how to do finger waves and pincurls. Those are the hardest for me to get and I have to do them to pass State Board.

bbycakes73: Do you find smaller shears like that are easier to use? and where did you buy those? I have Nic shears which are nice, but really large

M B: Ive been looking for that .... Thanks

M B: she uses a twist cut on the top horseshoe section to layer that area

bonitas101: favatat, tks for helping us to understand the haircut concept explaining the why you do the way you doing. The back side of the head is very clear but, for me always the front and front side is very challenge (very important since is the frame of the face, and where the client can see) So, can you explain and show more next time. I have problem to understand the different elevation concept.

sammy eaglz: i wish u were my hair instructor back when i was in beauty school! ty for the vid.

Becky Rubio: I love the way u teach. can u show also mens hair cut to?

Islam People: my hair did too and it looks pretty thick i think its normal. do you feel your hair is thick?

FTFoodieCraft: my hair is medium-short, would this kind of layers work for my length?

25Bsingle: yay a haircut vid with no annoying music!

Melanie Shaw: When you twisted the top section and cut the ends was that just a shortcut? Or was that because of her hair texture/length?

David R. Gaines: d@m great tutorial.....excellent......must share

choc lover: Thanks!!!

stralbem: OMG I love how it sounds like too!!!

micanikko: Before cutting my mom's hair, he watched this video first. XD I dunno the results yet. He's still cutting her hair right now.

michelle lovato: wow shes really good i need to learn this for barber school they make you cut womens hair.

Sy Tac Loc: Double Hitter from Paul Mitchell is Sulfate free.....It is shampoo and conditioner combine together...good stuff :)

Nicolejg1982: those are the easy, in the begining it was hard but now i got the hang of it... pin curls are so easy im going through my state board in 6 more months

GiverSSJ: What length would you consider this haircut? It seems like shoulder blades.

greenjellybean978: Would you ever consider being a cosmetology instructor?

Rebecca Johns: Looks great. Hair look healthier

Hairstyle by Rüya: You are the best hairstylist 3

Jenn Weenink: Very cute toy have pretty hair :)

154angel154: I like this but I am searching for a more "edgier" cut...if you will...as it is for my 20 yr old and she wants dear old mom to do it... Looks great though... She begged me NOT to give her a "mom" cut lol

manish sain: Good and nice

kim Johanna: a nice hair cut but..in my opinion. just needed a little bit of thin-it-out would be nicer.

RayInMiamiDade: nice,,, Ahora can you repeat all that in Espanol?

Alixx Nott: Did you happen to go to a Mario Tricoci school? I'm about to graduate there, and these are the signature cuts... hahaha.

hodgkinsonable: I don't think I would make a very good hairdresser, everybody always seems to be a cut above me

Alev Gov: oh how i love the sound of those snipping sccisors

thestolenvoice123: my teacher says that if we do that he will yell at us, lol
