Quickest and easiest way to achieve a decent layered haircut for medium-long to long hair.

Last year's haircut https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQ3YlS...

Other diy haircuts, more advanced and more time-consuming:

This is the best one I followed years ago, when I first started cutting my own hair (it had a few thousands views at the time, ahah) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byjEXp...

This is a better quality version of the one above, but a bit overcomplicated https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNzZqV...

This is a DIY haircut, video for people with medium long to long hair. Also, my hair is medium thick and wavy. I cut my hair last time exactly one year ago. It was May last year - and I made a video about it, which received so many views and still is getting so many views which is hard to explain, because my channel has nothing to do with this kind of topic. In fact, I attracted so many people coming from the beauty channels and they didn't really understand the purpose of my video. My haircut is all about not spending useless money to the hairdresser, because I travel full time on a budget, it's all about efficiency and practicality. So what you're gon na see today is the simplest and quickest layered haircut that you can do for long hair. I don't care so much about the result as long as it's decent, okay, before getting into is two words about my last very bizarre video. I used a very weird technique. You can go check it out if you want. The result in terms of haircut was perfectly fine work well for 12 months in terms of health of my hair. It wasn't ideal in that video if you have watched it. If you remember, I was asking you guys how split and look like, because I couldn't see them in my hair, and I know they are so common, but probably my hair didn't have any split ends, because now now I know exactly how they look like, because I Have plenty of them you so if you suffer from sleep and you want to get a good pair of scissors, probably that's the secret! To that. I don't know. I started noticing in my split ends a couple of months ago anyway, so it was not that big of a deal last time I was still traveling this time. For obvious reason, I am quite settled and stable in one place, so I went to the shop and bought a pair of scissors just for this purpose, so I wish they were better quality. I look for better quality ones, but this is all they had at Target. So I'm gon na use this, let's bug into it now my hair is against so long and it looks so ugly when it's down. I found this kind of hairstyle. That suits me very well. Well, now it's a bit messy because I've been having it all day and now it's evening the brush remained the same. The technique is super simple and I'm just gon na show you I'm gon na flip my hair and tie them up all right when you think it is smooth enough. You tie them up, but at this level, so don't do it here. Don'T do it on your back. Do it very very upfront, okay done completed, but you want to have before proceeding to the real haircut now. What we want to do is just to cut straight, because this way these hair are going to be longer than these ones, and this was you, you can't worry me they're gon na be all layered when you flip them back so now to help us out. We just to make the straight cut. You tie another kind of ponytail, and now you decide the length that your hair are gon na have okay, I decided that my hair are gon na arrive till here. I'M gon na cut sorry, I'm gon na cut right above the elastic, so you put the elastic. I put it on my chin and I'm gon na cut at the level of my mother. That'S it! This is all my hair ends, aren't so bad at the moment. They'Ve never been so bad in my entire life. I think so. That'S the result of the way I kept in first time. What year ago, now you go with a straight cut? You'Re not gon na be able to do this, but do do it as smoothly as possible, of course done so this you can throw away or if it's long enough you can sell it now. Obviously, the cut is not going to be completely straight completely smooth, so aren't gon na go in with smaller chunks and I'm gon na cut them straight. You can remember that it is all about effectiveness and practicality, not about aesthetics. If you care about the statics, you just go to the hairdresser. Well, now, they're closed. I guess this is also the point of making this video. If you want to do a better job, you can spend more time on this. You can spend three or four hour hours cutting your hair since you are at home with nothing to do. There are way more detailed videos out there and better than mine for cutting your hair like a professional. The fact that this cut is not straight is not a problem for me really, because my hair is so long that I don't really care. That'S why I said at the beginning of the video. This is a video for people who have long very long, hair or really long too long. This is obviously not straight because I working with and big chunk of hair all right now, let's see the rough results and then I'm gon na adjust the layers around my face that are the most visible one. All right. I was looking at myself in the mirror and I definitely screwed up this time. This is the sixth or seventh time I do this haircut on myself. I do it more or less once a year since seven eight years. Probably this is the first time that happens to me, probably because I was too concentrated on making the video and I wasn't working with a mirror. So as you, I don't know, if you can see, I cut come here here. Super short for some reason. I don't really know what happened, because I did the exact same things that I always do, but the point here is: does it really matter? I mean I don't care that much. I I wear my hair, mostly tied up in some way, so this in my case it doesn't matter if you have shorter hair than me, or they are not so long or you're afraid to to screw up your hair. Just don't cut as much as I did cut less. You can literally just cut this much and see if you like it. If you screw it up, you can just spend a couple of hours in front of the mirror with your scissors and adjust your haircut one week later, I am editing the video and I don't realize that I didn't really show you that much. The final result that day and so I'm gon na try to do it now. Okay, so, oh my god guys, I told you, I don't wear my hair that I almost never wear my hair down. I always tie them up in some ways: either the entire hair - or you know just the upper part. But yes, so I wash my hair yesterday and while I witnessed it we're still humid. Why would they say why would they step we're still humid? I put them up in a bun today I woke up and I did the same thing. So that's why they are so messy right now why I screwed up that haircut. I don't know the reason. I don't know why, but these chants are way too short. So I have like short here long here and I have like a hole in the middle. Don'T know why, anyway, they day that I cut them. I really it was evening. I was tired. The sunlight was going away, so I didn't have time to really shoot the video. So I was doing everything very much in a rush, and I told you I've done haircut so many times before. Usually, I always do this ponytail method, at least for the first cut, because I cut them really once per year, so they grow very long by during the years. I also tried several different methods of cutting hair. I also spent three four hours on a haircut every year. I try to reduce the time I spend of the haircut because I realized after I do it that I really I never wear my hair down and also they are so long that nobody know. This is how they are so I always spend so much time on a haircut and then I regret to have spent so much time. So this time I was like okay, let's do it in 20 minutes, and I think I did it maybe 25 minutes, because I was filming at the same time so yeah the the mistake I've done this time is that I didn't put a mirror at the beginning. For some person I just asked to my partner: please give me 20 minutes of your time. Help me film this video. So I do this air cut as soon as possible without having to set up cameras and stuff. So I didn't even set up a mirror before starting to feel which was a very stupid thing, so I probably did my ponytail a little bit too too much to the back. I should have pulled it a little bit forward a little bit more but anyway, if you are still like me, you don't want to spend time on a haircut, but you don't want to do a little bit of a better job than I did and a little Bit more accurate, there are levels of accuracy that you can step up to. So, first of all, if you do only one ponytail, you can then take three other elastics or two and and divide that one ponytail in sub ponytails, so the cut will be straighter in the end. Then, if you want to step up even more, you part your hair in the middle and then you divide it in other two parts and you do either four or six ponytails instead of one. So, for example, your part in the middle and then you take let's say this hair trunk and you do a pony tail here and then you know you cut here straight. So it's the same thing that I did with one pony tail. It'S just that you do it in four directions. So, in the end, if you go straight up, it's gon na be more accurate. Instead of you know putting everything in this direction. Yes, so the point is here that I tried other more accurate and better techniques, but this one is literally the easiest and quickest one, and I realized that for me personally, I don't want to spend more than half an hour on a haircut, no matter how it Turns out in the end, so that's it so, maybe we'll add. A couple of links to other tutorials are more accurate, so that if you want to step up in the accuracy, you have a reference. Remember final message: there are more important things in life. So that's! Okay, I'm gon na have for a couple of months, some weird haircut and I don't really care. I hope you are all going. It'S try to cut your own hair and I always think experimenting is fine. Even if then, you have a bad haircut. Who cares? Little corn teeth. Thank you. Everyone, mati mati, bye, bye, oh Jesus,

Coco Shin: You hair is great! It's so thick I think the waves from the bun look beautiful. What probably happened this time is that not all of the hair was pulled tight when you tied the ponytail and the ponytail should have been more forward toward the hairline as you said. The shorter parts were tighter in the ponytail and the longer parts were looser. If you have a bigger brush and you brush it for a bit longer, it will all lay down the way you want before you tie the ponytail. It looks awesome anyway and you are 100% right that it's not that important after all! It's just hair!

Durs Koenig: Mary Jane, I am enjoying your creativity creating content during quarantine beyond travelogues.

Heather Frampton: What beautiful hair and a great record album collection you have! I'm looking forward to using your direction to trim my very long hair.

Trippy Erin: Your layers look great with the waves in the hair. I use Moroccan/argan oil throughout my hair after drying it with a towel and it gives it nice waves when it dries. You don’t even need much - the size of a dime. A bottle lasts forever and it makes the hair look luxurious with almost no effort. The Moroccan oil smells sooo good too!

Stephanie Stearns: I hope my hair is long enough to try your method but if not I'm still giving myself a haircut. Thank you for sharing and giving me the courage to cut more than just my bangs! PS - Next time please consider cutting a bit more off and donating your ponytail here: https://locksoflove.org/hair-donation/

Juana P: I've done this haircut many times, since 1981 when I first read about it in a magazine for young girls

Judith Hinton: Your hair is gorgeous, Mary Jane. It looks great worn down.

Simonh: Lovely video! Thank you!

Jayden Dash: Interesting that this type of video came around now. That's how I actually came across your channel last year, or more the less the reaction video from that Brad Mondo dude who tried your haircutting advice on that mannequin head and was absolutely mortified of the results. That was freaking GOLD! Ahh, hilarity aside, I'm not sure if it's been exactly a year I've been subbed to your channel but it had to be around last May. Looking at it now, you've definitely grown in channel size since then. Edit: Brad Mondo seeing this vid prolly be like: "NOPE! NOT THIS TIME! YOU WILL NOT FOOL ME AGAIN MARY JANE!!!"

desides93: Umm what are you talking about. Your haircut looks amazing! I want that hair cut now

Terry Tro: Hello Mary Jane . I love your hair anyway you wear it. Need to see more of you on YouTube. Stage safe. More live walking videos

Juergen Lilien: Not too bad, Mary Jane. And you already know the universal problem resolution from the pandemic: Just stay at home and maybe, in addition, close the curtains and dim the light. Just joking, you are beautiful and I never thought it would be so enjoyable to watch a video with a woman cutting her hair.

Usama abaid: Happy to see your channel growing

Loachana Egodawela: hey Jane, I love your content so much and they are well done. I have little issue though that there is a noticeable difference in the volume gain of your voice and sound effects. I think Voice is low volumed and sound effects are high volumed sometimes. I don't know if this is only for me though. But I really like what you do and wish you good luck with your future expeditions.

Carl Loar: Ur hair looks great Mary Jane. It really looks beautiful.

Axel Paff: Nice haircut!Your hair is beautiful greetings

Jitesh Solanki: Your videos are very informative ✌ Love from India Keep up the good work stay home stay safe.

David Ellis: Hi Mary Jane , I gave myself a ✂ & mainly used a pair of Clippers. I did ! Hope you do a video on your fellows vinyl ! Looks like he has a cool collection. See Ya !

Tim Yamasaki: I would think that if you cut your hair even while bringing it to the front of your body, you are actually cutting it opposite of layering since you are going to bring the hair to the back of your body. So your hair is the exact opposite of being layered. You have so much beautiful long hair that it looks good regardless of how you cut it.

EM F: Mary Jane it looks good!

Katy Bay: Ooo this is super clever

Perry Malcolm: Ooh! I’d like to know more bout ur record collection!!! Confirms my initial good vibes from u weren’t wrong!

George Kelly: Nice job .

e a: BELLISSIMA!!

Michael Smith: love it

Don Vito Cascioferro: OK for us men this is not a problem twice during this lockdown I’ve just shaved all my hair off myself, problem solved.

lbunny Gordon: Scared to do it you are braver than me ...

Denise Lay: It's because you need to pull the hair more forward to the front is why it was different

Linda Nguyen: 10:40 hahaha that made me laugh a lot!! You are funny

DENVEROUTDOORMAN: Yeah some of these places way overcharge for haircuts...but there are places that are reasonably priced.like your hair

Life & Nature: Not as scary as the previous video cutting with a knife, but bizarre nonetheless.

Alain nash: Whahaha this is comedy :D it doesn't look that bad

DENVEROUTDOORMAN: No your hair looks great down

JROD: The pandemic doesn't stop you✌

Mrs K: your hair is so gorgeous

Undesirable Truism: 5:27 Knife woman does it again!

Matias Arizu:

Perseo Eridano:

Lacquerisma: Ffs Mary Jane, if you're going to cut your own hair INVEST in a pair of shears. Sell an LP or two and do your ends a favour.

META M: Mary Jane, I think it's the brush you use that gives you the split ends. Can't you replace with a proper hair brush as that one you have is only to keep in your handbag for occasional use when you need it. Just my advice.

Darrell: I miss your collaborations with Actionkid...

Esther Batycki: Shut up this looks amaaazzing this is what I want

The Laird Report: I don't know if it is just me, but I get the sense of the camera person wanting to burst out laughing, I cut my own hair too, however, I use electric clippers and do a complete take off, sheared like a sheep, but I don't think that style would suit you.

Michael Pifferi: hi Mary Jane, new video with ActionKid when is possible :)

Proton Pkm: I'll buy the hair

Qwerty: Ich trage noch Pandemie. Vielleicht liegt es an der Länge meines Haares, ich bekomme den Haargummi erst in 4 Wochen fest ☺️ vermutlich

Emanuele Santoro: La collezione di vinili! O.O

Scott Kempton: Your last comment: "I don't really care". I suspect you care more than you'll admit. And as one of the other commenters said: you could shave your head and you'd still be a pretty girl. :) Also......is that your music collection and stereo system? It is definitely old school. As it turns out, as I watched this video, I'm in the middle of ripping all 450 of my CDs so that I can use a much newer player technology.

Mars Bel: This is a bit off topic but ... .I am completely absorbed by the Roman Empire/Republic and I would LOVE to visit in situ the ancient history of Roma. Do you know by any chance a knowledgeable historian who would be willing to do an in depth private tour ? PS: I miss the knife :P

GerardDuijfNL: Very funny.

taylor dickinson: Do you have a Snapchat ?
