dyeing/highlighting my roots blonde using a highlighting cap !!

this method worked extremely well & i am pleasantly surprised with the outcome. this method saved me $500 instead of going to a salon :D

*all products used were bought at Sallys*

*PS I forgot to say wash the bleach out after bleaching the second time -- before you put the toner on! Which is applied to damp hair*

All right, so it didn't turn out ugly. I had a mild panic attack, but all is well and it turned out so good and i'm so happy and i'm super excited to show you all my process that i went through and how i achieved this color. So this was what my hair looked like prior to dyeing it super outgrown, unmaintained poop right. So let's just take a look at that difference. Right there. It went from like poop to like milk chocolate delicious like swirl, so i just woke up and i decided i was going to try something i had been wanting to try for a while, which was doing highlights with a cat um. So this video is going to be showing you how i did this and i am not a professional um. So don't quote me, don't forget to have snacks. Snacks are very important. This is a long process. All right. Let'S get started so you're going to need the bright powder lightener by ion 30 volume developer also by ion is what i use 20 volume developer by ion the color charm wella t18. A highlighting cap and usually the highly highlighting cap, comes with the crochet hook. But if it doesn't just buy one they're like a dollar and a shower cap and a bowl, a brush and snacks, all right, so the first step is you're going to want to part your hair wherever you want. Your highlights to be the brightest, so i just did straight down the middle um. I did part my hair all the way on the back two down the middle, and i kind of wish i wouldn't have. I think it would be better to just have only parted. It right on the top, so then you're gon na get your highlighting cap and then to start you just get your crochet hook and you're going to poke it through every single hole. I literally poked it through every single hole on this freaking cap. It took it really did take a long time, i'm gon na be honest. It took like i'm gon na say, like maybe two hours, just to pull every hair through um, so you basically stick the crochet hook through the hole and poke it through and then kind of like in a swervy motion, grab the hair and if it starts to Loop, i just kind of go back in and pull more hair through, so that eventually there's like no little loops coming out of the hole so that it just feels smooth. And then i kind of like use my fingers to brush through the pieces of hair to make sure that there's no like funky anything blocking it and then make sure there's enough hair through that bleach isn't going to seep in through the hole that didn't happen. To me, but when i was watching other tutorials that happened to some people, so this is what it looks like um once all of the hairs are pulled through every single hole. I guess if you want less highlights, don't do every single hole, but i wanted a lot of highlights. Um. I wish i could have done more holes honestly, but yeah it kind of was. It was really satisfying getting all those hairs out and you can just see that i did every single haul so after that then you're going to take the hairs that are pulled through and tie them up and separate them from your other hair that you do not Want to have dyed, so i just tied my other hair to the side. I don't know why my voice is like really froggy today. So sorry, um next step, you're going to do three full lids of the bleach powder from ion. I just use the top of the lid from the bottle that it was in and you're going to pour it in your mixing bowl and yeah. I just made sure that they were filled to the top um six full lids of the 30 volume developer. I use 30 volume because my hair is a level seven and i need more lift faster um. If your hair is lighter, i would suggest using a 20 volume developer and then you just mix it together until it's like a pudding, consistency and there's no more lumps or chunks in the bleach concoction, and i didn't have gloves, i would suggest just going and buying Some clothes um, i didn't have any brush so and i didn't want to go to the store but yeah, so i'm just basically applying the bleach all over my roots, i'm just really focusing on getting the roots, deeply saturated with the bleach, because if you don't there'll Be like splotches that are orangier than some parts, and it just looks weird like it's just really important to take the time to really like massage in the bleach to your roots or whatever you're dying. You know, and then i just like used a mirror to do the back of my head and then i tie it up and i put a bag on my head. Okay, so you're gon na put that on for 30 minutes. Do you see that? So this is what it looks like after the first round of dye and then you're just gon na rinse it out only the highlighted part. I didn't wash the rest of my hair. Just the highlighted part um. You could add coconut oil in after it's dry. I forgot to do that. It would be healthier for your hair but yeah, so now i'm just blow drying it and brushing it out. I'M sorry, like my voice, is so weird today, so once your hair is fully brushed out and dry repeat the entire process. I just did over again. I know it sucks you guys it takes forever, but then, after the second time when you remove the cap, it's going to look like this beautiful white crisp and then you get to do the fun part, the toner. So i used the toner well at 18 on the 20 developer. I poured the toner in the bowl and then i did two parts developer with it. So i filled the bottle up twice and added the 20 developer and mixed it up until it's like a pudding. Consistency as well and all the toner is mixed in thoroughly warning. I messed up on this next part. I accidentally brought the toner too far down onto my previously bleached hair, which made it really silver compared to the rest of my hair, so i would suggest only putting it on the roots where you dyed it and bleached it um. Otherwise, you're gon na have to tone your whole head or use lemon to get the gray out, and then you put a cap on let it sit for five minutes. Okay, so this is how it looks right now. I am literally so scared to take this off, because i have never done this before ever. I have never tried a cap, i'm afraid it went really great. I probably shouldn't have pulled the gray through the rest of the hair. I probably just should have put it on the roots, oops didn't think about that, but you can also take gray out of hair with lemon. I think because i've done that before so i think i might do that. 3. 4 cup lemon 1 4 cup of conditioner and you mix it all together and then you leave it on the hair for 30 minutes to an hour to even two hours. So luckily, i have three lemons, i'm just going to cut them up and uh put them in my hair, just like where this like purpley gray areas are. The top looks really good okay. So this is the lemon mixture that i used and i let it sit for an hour and then i just rinsed it out, and this is me pulling the cap off it hurt it hurt pretty bad taking the cap off. I don't know of a way to make it any less painful. Oh, it's pretty good! Also um. I went back in and i did my money pieces, which are those front two pieces um see how there's still some brown in the front um. So you can see this is the final product. I love it. I am in love. I have never done this before so this was super a little bit scary um, but i'm really glad that i took that risk and just tried it because look at that in this big and look at these emotions they get so loud. I can't seem to find the time to let them go, let them go overall, i give myself an a plus and i'm interested to see. Who else does this? Because i know at a salon, you have to spend a lot of money to get this done, especially when you have thick hair so yeah. Thank you so much for watching this video and i hope that you loved it make sure you subscribe and check me out on social media under shannon blake, and i will see you guys in the next video. Thank you so much bye i've been going crazy. I just need somebody to bring me back down.

Bonnie Edwards: Your hair is crazy beautiful

Tina Collins: You done a good job

Fiona Gichohi: You funny Also, thanks for the video, it's the most informative I've watched on highlighting

Trevors Mommee: If you are having to bleach your hair twice with 30 volume you are using the wrong bleach and/or not leaving it on long enough. There's no reason at all that you should have to bleach it that much to get the lift you need. Also, you should be toning all your blonde hair

FionnRex: Wow that's dope. U did such a good job. Uve inspired me

Ally Marie: I love your hair wow

Nat: Where did you buy your highlighting cap?

Jacinda Friend: I have done this for years. I finally went to a salon just because I figured why not. While It came out great, I won’t be doing it again. Not worth the money. I always use a highlight kit I get for 10 dollars I think it’s by loreal

Sherri Chorba: Looks pretty..
