I'M going to show you how to set how to set the hair using heated rollers. You need the head to be clean and, ideally not to clean, so if they can wash it the day before, without it being greasy, that's great know. If they're used to washing their hair every day, then that's fine. They can wash the hair the morning that you're going to arrive and what you definitely don't want. It'S really difficult to work with hair, that's remotely greasy. So if that's gon na be the case just get them to wash their hair, so Kitty washed our hair yesterday. So it's clean, but not too too clean and what you don't want is hair. That'S super conditioned as well, so you want to ask your clients not to use any deep sort of deep conditioners or any leave-in treatments, because we can always make the hair shine. But it's very difficult if it has super soft and really silky, it's quite hard to work with, and it doesn't want to stay up. Okay, so let's create our first section. So your roller sections need to be just a little bit sort of narrower than the section of hair that you're working on. If you make the section too wide, when you once you've created once you've rolled the hair, the hair has a tendency to fall off the edges of the roller. So it's far better, it's just a little bit narrower than the roller and then depth wise. It should be about around about the same depth as the size of roller that you're working with so the bed of the roller is about it's just a little bit narrower than the actual width of the roller, and this way it's about the same depth as this. So you need to change the size of the section of hair that you choose, depending on what size roller you're using so start off in the front section here, you and you're going to just spray the hair with a little bit of flexible, hold hairspray, and you Make sure when you spray in the hey, don't spray it down just spray up the hair so that any of these little flyaway bit I'll start to lie down in the right direction? And I'm going to show you how to create a traditional wind on the hair. So take the roller to the end of the hair. So what I'm not going to do is hold the hair vertical and roll down you'll find, if you do it this way. What happens when you come down the hair? Is the roller will sit behind the bed of the roller and, ideally, what we want and what we want to create? We don't just want to create a curl, we're also looking to create some root lift. So what we need to do is get the roller to sit on here, sit on the actual bed of the roller, so it puts a little bit of tension, extra tension on the root and that's what helps to give you the root lift. So, in order to get that what you need to do so you're not going to be vertical you're going to push the hair forwards itself around a 45 degree angle like that, and then you take the hair. Sorry, you take the roller to the end of the hair, using your tail comb, just tuck the ends of the hair underneath, so what you don't want is little hook at the end of the hair, so you need to make sure that they enter the hair. Oh nice and smooth and you roll the hair down they, so you roll the roller down the hair. Now I'm keeping some tension on the hair here. So I'm not letting it go all soft, because if you let it go all soft it'll get off the hair. Will be all floppy and then it'll spoil your curl it'll come out with all all kinks in it. So keep a nice amount of tension on the rollers. My thumb chain the nail changes color, then you know you've got the tensions just right and you roll that down and it will sit nicely directly on the bed of the roller. Then you take your hair. Your section pin make sure that the the curved end is pointing upwards, because you don't on that to go into her scalp and you just slide her don't go in. You just slide slide that across keeping tension on the roller. Whilst you get that on and slide that on there and that will then stay in place so then directly behind you're going to create another section following the lines of the section that you've got in the front there, you just a little bit narrower than the roller, Whichever size you're going to use and you've got your section, there spray the hair, making sure you're spraying the hair in the right direction. Just so, you make sure all these little loose fly away and just all start to lie down nice and flat your row. Now I'm using all medium sized rollers in Kitty's hair, because I want quite a nice curl, but way too just if you are looking for maybe just a little bit of root, lift and a bit of volume, but no curl. You might choose to use all large rollers so take the roller to the end of the hair, with a little bit of tension on the hair. Still, when you get to the end, you took those little the ends of the hair under they line nice and flat. Without any kinks - and it's worth practicing this, so just take your time - don't expecting this to get it right straight away, it does take practice, and then you just roll the roller down the hair. Keeping the angle you now, if your bride has layers in her hair I'll, show you what to do, because it's been it's really difficult to go to the end of the hair. But I was showing you how to deal with the layers when we come to the side of Kitty's hair. So don't worry, we will be covering that okay, so I've got my third section again. It'S just same keeping the lines nice and straight. It'S always best to keep to keep your roller sections really clean, so don't be tempted to sort of just allow a little bit of hair from there or a little bit of hair from there into the section. Keep each section nice and separate with nice straight lines and you'll see why, when we actually come to create the Styles later on a little bit more hairspray, so take the roller to the end of the hair. She got to the end at the top gets how come and just curve those ends underneath when you're happy with the ends, making sure many of made sure they're all nice and smooth and keeping the angle on the hair and I'm rolling the hair down, I'm rolling The roller down - and it sits nicely just on that bed of the roller there now gon na start work about working on the side, sections so take a parting. I make a section from the second roller back straight down and that should come just on the ear line, I'll just straighten that up a little bit. It'S worth taking your time and making sure that these are you happy with your sections here? Don'T click that away so then, I'm going to make a triangle section here, so this is really important that you get this the hair at an angle like this, because what we don't want to do. If you do a straight line here, then what tends to happen when you take the hair out, you get a very definite rolla line, there's actually really quite hard to to hide so you'll find if you do a diagonal, and it has to be the day, the Top the point of the triangle is up: at the top of the section spray the hand you can see here, cuz, it's got a few little layers and cut into the hair. So what we do here, instead of starting, we could start at the top of the hair, but you can see the layers start to fall down, so probably the best way to do it. It'S where the layers I start to cut into the hair. So you hold the roller there and you're going to start curling from there, so you sort of doing a little bit of a reverse wind here, just to capture all the hair and again it's important with this section, I'm keeping it straight, although the section of hair Is at an angle, I'm not necessarily going to put the roller at an angle, I'm going to keep the roller horizontal and then the second section I'm going to do a more of a straight line here. So it's almost as if what you do you've got a square here and you've just cut the square in half, so you've got two triangles either side same thing again: she's got some little layers here, so the layers might be there. It'S wherever you're, wherever the layers start. That'S where you're going to hold the roller and wrap the hair around again, I've got tension on the hair and you can see I'm holding the roll up a person, so the hairs up at an angle. So when that rolls down, it sits nicely on the bed of the roller. If you got a little end and that sticks out like that, what you can do just go back a little bit move the end of the hair over to the center a little bit. But when you roll the hair back down the end will go underneath the top section there just to make sure that all the ends are curled as well, and it's really important as well to make sure you're using the right size roller Clips. So if you're, if the clips the start, starts a pink off, then you're, probably using the roller clips that are meant for a smaller sized roller. So you can force them on there, but little bit. But every now and again, they'll start to ping off and they'll. Come loose so you probably you've just got the wrong size roller clip and what tends to happen if you keep doing that, you'll end up stretching all your smaller roller clips. So when you do want to secure your small rollers, if you do want to use them, you'll find that all the clips are too big, so just be really careful making sure that you use the right size roller clip. So, finally, now on the side, the first side, I've now got gone back to a regular size, roller, a regular shaped section, and you can put angles all the way down the side here. If she was going to have her hair down, you could maybe put a little angle on each section and you'll find once you're confident setting the setting the hair with heated rollers. You can vary the way you put the rollers in, depending on what style you're looking to create. So we got our first side. Don'T three rollers coming down in a nice straight line there. So now I'm going to do the other side of Kitty's hair and I'm going to do the exact same thing. I'M going to get my guide from the second roller, but back on the the end of that second roller. I'M then going to take a line down to the ear, so it can either use your back combing comb or you might find it easier to use your tail. Comb just use the tail section of the comb so which ever is easiest for you starters hire pushy. Can, depending on where the layers are and that's how they start probably more aligned around about here for kitty, I'm going to hold the hair there and then I'm going to do start. If I went to the end of the hair and did the traditional whined here, where she's got the layers and most of this hair would end up sort of down and out of the roller, so it just makes your life a little bit easier, everybody's different here. You might find you only have enough space for two rollers, not three, in which case you would still do an angle for your top roller. When I'm working with the layers, I'm making sure that I take the hair far over to the side of the roller, at least with space I've got. It leaves me some space to use for this for the rest of the hair, whereas if I started but put that section in the middle, you can see, you start wrapping and you're already running out of roller space and your hair is going to have to go On top of the other hair, or you have to sort of maybe think about wrapping it over there, so just to save yourself that bother start off with it at the side of the roller. It also helps you a little bit because the rollers are hot, so that means you can hold thee. If it's starting to hurt your fingers, you can hold the roller with the hair there on top. So now I'm keeping the hair flat on the roller for this curl. It doesn't have a twist in it, so I'm bringing the hair slightly over. So the end goes underneath the top section. So if the role is a little bit low this, if this one isn't, but if your roles end up in there a little bit long they're just touching the ear, then what you can do, let's just get a little bit of tissue and just pop it up There, just in between the roller and the ear just so it doesn't, her ear doesn't get burnt, and you can also do this. If someone has very fine hair, you might find that the rollers feel a little bit hot on the scalp. So again you can do the same thing. You just get a bit of tissue and just put it in between the scalp and the roller. So so far we've got our three rollers at the top I'd guide, rollers and then we've got our three rollers either side. So I'm going to do one more roller here, coming back using the same lines that I had from that I've got from the guide rollers in front. It'S important at this stage that you make sure that she's looking straight ahead. So you know you're working down the center of the head, so I've just on one more section that continues back from the first row. There hold that, with your thumb, get your tail comb smooth down. Those ends, see you happy with them and everything's nice and neat. The end of the hair roll, the hair down no she's just got one little section of hair that maybe is a little bit broken just there. So I just need to make sure as I bring roll the hair so bring the roller down. I include that section. So I've got some still got some nice tension on the roller bringing it down and it sits nicely on the bed if the roller, it's just keeping that tension on the hair and making sure the roller sits on the bed of the roller will give you that Root lift now we can't do square rectangular sections all over the head because I had to not square so in. We need to down balance things out a little bit. So what I'm going to do now is create a little triangle of a section just here. So you don't necessarily need to worry about lining up this, the front of this section with any of these rollers. But what you do need to do is make sure you line up the back of the triangle with the back with the bottom of this roller, because this area here is going to work as our crowns section. So when we come to create the styles, we're going to work on different areas of the hair, at a time when you, when you're going to when you take the rolls out, is I find it's far better not to take all the rolls out at once, but To take the last section by section, so I might just work on the back section. They know to work on the crown area. Then I'd work on each side, so I'm going to create a crown area. That'S that's got its own little roller sections in there. Now. You might find after why you might be comfortable using your fingers to smooth the hair down there, roll it down, I'm keeping the tension on the hair, and then this is going to roll and just sit just nicely in between this. This area is little in this little space just here, then, we've got one more triangle left to do when you want to create Heights with, on the crown your you need to include the rollers either side of the crown, not just the hair on here. If you use the hair, what happens if you just create height with these? The two rollers here that are sitting on the crown you end up with quite a pointed look, and we want to get some nice widths as well as Heights with our styles. So we need to include the hair that for either side of the crown, that's why I'm being really careful to make sure that I get these sections nice and clean so hope we're holding the hairspray around about sort of eight inches from the hair. If you're too close you're just going to make the hair wet with hairspray, which won't work so it'll make the hair crispy whatever hairspray you're using and if you're too far away, then you're wasting most of your hairspray. So I would say around about it's about eight inches away from the hair and I'm spraying it upwards. Okay, now I like to use the L net professional, hairspray and you'll find the regular L net that you get in boots and Superdrug and the spray is really quite wet. So this has got a much finer spray and it it feels quite dry on the hair, whereas the other, the regular L net you'll find, will make the hair a little bit wet and a bit crispy. So this is a that Elnett professional. It'S definitely the best. Hairspray that I found to use so far now, if you find, if you're, working with very fine hair - and it tends not to hold the curl very well instead of using a hairspray, you can use a setting lotion just to spray on the hair a little bit Before you put the roller in and you'll find that will just help the curl, but just a very light hold setting lotion and you'll find it will just help the curl to hold a little bit more so another section now again, I'm still using. So I'm still using these Center roles as the guide roller and use my fingers that time as the head started to curve down, we can now just we don't have to push the rollers forward. We can just now hold them vertical and get the same effect. So once I've done one more central roller, I'm now going to create another section here, and this is going to be a nice straight line continuing along here. So I'm not going to use like a brick set at the back, which is a sort of an uneven way of setting the hair. You'D, probably use that if you go in to do maybe do a perm or you setting an old lady's hair which zooms got short hair. So you don't want to see the roller sections, but I'm gon na do nice straight lines across the back of the hair. With these rollers, because if on this style, I want to build in heat it, if I'm this style, I wants to start building in some extensions later on. I can then use these guidelines as much to clip in the extensions, but you'll find that setting the hair in this way works for nearly all the Styles that we're going to create not to use your fingers. You can try that now it's easy. If you're going to use your fingers, you probably might find it better to use it where the hair is all one length. If you were working with very long thick heavy hair here, you might find what you need to do and you, when you and you've, done the trial and found out that she really likes the sort of curls she gets from a heated roller or, if you're going To create maybe an up style, and you want to use heated rollers, you might find with long thick heavy hair, but at the back you might put less hair on each roller just so that the hair gets the better more chance to get to the heat of The roller and therefore it'll, curl a bit better you so I like to use the babble is heated rollers because they get nice and hot and because they don't have the fabric of flock coating on them, they're really easy to clean. I prefer their smaller sets of babel is heated rollers to the larger professional set, because you can vary the size of roller that you heat up. It'S like, for example, today on kitty, I'm using all the blue rollers. So, basically, on these sets of heated rollers, I can put fill it up with all blue. I can just use all red the larger ones. I could use all small, the yellow ones that I can vary which rows I choose to heat to warm up, whereas on the larger sets of babish rollers, you literally can only heat up each different than the set number of each size of roller. Another sent another section down Center there and another one on the side. My kitties got a few more little layers here in the hair, so I'm going to work with those layers and not take the roller right to the end, maybe just to where the layers I cut into the hair or slightly shorter sections, so I'll roll the wrap. The longer bits around the hair and then from where the layers are, I start rolling down like that, make sure it's nice and smooth at the end and rolled out now, if you were creating, maybe a side bun here, you would have put a little ponytail here And you might start to gradually change the rollers and curve them around towards the bun at the side. So I'm going to do three rollers here, it's not quite large enough. It gets narrower as you get further down the hairline. So, instead of doing three rectangles, I'm going to do a little inverted triangle here, so that would be one section, two sections, three sections: if you asked her to look down when you're doing the back sections, you'll find it easier be able to get it nice and Tight next to the scalp and then also because the scalp now starts to curve outwards here, you need to still be able to get your clipping. So if you've asked us to look down, you'll find it's much easier to get that clip in without actually digging it into her scalp, so you're angling them just a little bit because it doesn't really room for them to lie perfectly horizontal. There. We'Ve done give it a little spray then, before you finish, you just need to come back and just check the front section that little bit there is pressing into the scalp it's going to leave a mark on her forehead. So we want to avoid that. So the when you finished just take the last just take that clip out it round and pop it in the other way. I wouldn't I'd leave that till the end. Only because if you do that at the beginning it when the clips got in this direction, it's actually quite hard to get the next roller in position. So you need to get everything else in and then come back and correct that then we finally spray everything and then you're going to let the rollers cool down and you'll take them out, maybe about maybe 20 minutes. Half an hour is enough time to let the rollers go cold once they've gone, cold they've done their job, but you might find you leave them in a little bit longer if you're doing maybe a set working like maybe you're working like other bridesmaids, but you probably Need a minimum I'd say of half an hour watch me: take the rolls out carefully in part two.
