This is serious.. to *me* anyways.. I feel like... Okay, I've had a revolution in my mind about hair masks. They are number one for everybody. Hair health is important for everybody, whether you have long hair, short, hair, thick hair, fine, hair, coarse hair at like literally very important, and I want to say, use a mask because it's important but there's a few things to make it effective. Because you can use a mask and it doesn't really work. So, let's fix that the best hair mask out there is the one that you can use consistently again and again, and that means it's the one that you can purchase again and again like afford to. If it feels like it's expensive or you feel like, oh, like I'm, not sure, I don't think it's a good idea. You'D be better off with, like the five dollar mask versus the 50 mask that you'd have to take like 30 years to research, and then you just like want to hold on to it and not use it. Because it's like fancy like that's not what hair masks are for they're nutrition for your hair and everybody can use them, even if you have an oily, scalp and really dry ends, especially because they don't actually get applied to the scalp. If you do it correctly, let's go over the types of masks and treatments that are out there, since there are a lot and hair technology has come a really long way. We have the traditional mask, which is what I'm kind of talking about mainly today, because I think that this type of hair nutrition is so underused. The difference between this and the conditioner is a hair mask is very thick. It has a lot less water and to use this correctly, you want to shampoo your hair lather it up rinse it all out and then use your mask on damp hair. You wouldn't want to apply a mask and then go in and use shampoo. You have to rinse after shampoo and then apply it, because this shampoo is like detergent, so it can really strip away, even if it just runs by the length of your hair, a lot of the oils and hydration that's supposed to be there. So that's the first type of mask, but we're going to look at the types of treatment, slash masks, and there are three in this video this next one is really interesting and could be really helpful. A bond repair product like olaplex, has a patent on this technology and it is proven to go into the hair shaft inside and repair broken bonds. This has a different order of use. You actually use this before shampoo on damp hair Bond repair is serious business and it actually has its own order. It goes on damp hair before shampoo and you could technically add a mask after now that product is quite expensive, but hair glosses are the third type of treatment that I consider to be like a mask and they are usually quite inexpensive. These treat the outer layer of the hair, whether you're using a lamellar water or a gloss, that's more of like a gel and a thick type of cream treatment looks a lot like a mask, but these glossing products act on the outside of the hair. They don't neutrify or help or rebuild the hair after shampoo, you apply this onto wet hair and always follow the instructions based on the product you're using, but it's like a top coat, and so you shouldn't rely on it to make your hair healthier. However, it's very protective and it has the most gorgeous result on hair. If you've never used a gloss and then you go to try one, you will fall in love with the results. You use your shampoo rinse it out and then, if it's the lamellar water one like this, you just rinse it onto your hair and then wait eight seconds and rinse it out. It'S amazing. This will give you that, like very commercial line of light in your hair, the gloss is for the aesthetic the mask is for the nutrition and bond repair is for Bond repair. All three have their place. You know, and I think it's important to consider using a mask more free, frequently and not looking for something. That'S really expensive, like I said, because using those hair masks consistently is your best defense against the aggressions of like everyday life, and when your hair has that extra elastic from The Mask it can really withstand and not break when it's put in a ponytail or it Rubs against your coat or just the weather is cold or dry. I always detangle my hair. If I remember before I apply a mask because it makes it easier to apply it even once my hair is wet. It just is better if it's not all knotted up the biggest mistake with a hair mask is like using it on dry hair because it can't go into the hair. That way, I can think of like two situations where the protection of a hair mask could be utilitarian to like dry hair. But if you actually want to get the benefits of the ingredients, you have to use it properly. So to do that, you rinse the hair. After you shampoo, so I've used a detox one today, because my scalp is really oily and then I got out of the shower and took all the excess water out of my hair by squeezing it out and I'm going to do the mask without being in the Shower because I can really focus on what I'm doing this way, it's going to take a few dips into this jar, starting with about seven inches down from the root I'm gon na do my best to spread the mask, but knowing that it has a tendency, since It'S so thick to kind of Clump up in one area, I'll start trying to tube it down the hair, but one of the best things you can do is after trying this for a while open the hair back up and see what parts don't have any mask. I'M going to dip back into the jar and then add some more and you'll see, as you start to massage this in and through the hair, it actually starts to disappear. A little bit goes from being like bright white and looking like moisturizer or like face lotion to being kind of just not there just wet. Looking. I really squeeze this in through the ends. Of course. The ends need the most coverage since, when you really think about it, your hair grows like six inches a year, so the ends of my hair must be like, like I don't know, 6 12 15.. They must be like 15 years old, or so I don't know. I don't know about that math, but the point is the ends need a lot of help, otherwise they will look very aged since they are older, hair treatments and at least in this tutorial are usually kept in for like eight or ten minutes, and then they get Rinsed out so rinse yours out, based on the instructions and then reveal and protect your results and don't forget to do it again, because this is what helps care for your hair, regularly comment below what you're your favorite hair mask is. I can't wait to read your comments and tell me what hair type you have too. I love you guys, thank you so much for watching. Don'T forget to give this video a thumbs up and click on my channel for more

Your Mom: So helpful as always ❤❤❤ 3:00 the lamellar technology is amazing. Just a word of caution: if you leave it on longer than recommended it will burn your hair. Thankfully, this never happened to me but my hairdresser has seen a lot of destroyed hair because the clients thought “the longer the better… probably won’t hurt”. So please be careful and always follow recommended application guidelines. They are there for a reason ❤

Kiara - Pro Wrestler & ANIME CONTENT: I used 'Philip Kingsley Elastisizer' ONCE and my hair dresser said that my hair was looking SO healthy and to KEEP DOING WHATEVER IT IS YOU'RE DOING. I felt like a kid getting a sticker & good job well done from the dentist

Alex S: Sharing a lifehack: I usually apply the mask to the very ends first, then to the mid sections and so on. This way I make sure my ends get the most of the product.

Ελένη Μπενέτου: I am a curly girl and I needed this so much. My hair is so much alike your natural hair.. so you can imagine how dry it could be!

Elsa Maria: Im a 3a using the L’Oréal dream length mask every week it works very well for me, not so pricey and it smells so good! I never tried the gloss that your showing from the same L’Oréal line, must give it a try! ‍♀️

Magn0lia_Tree: I have long, thick blonde hair. I love Tresemme mask, Redken anti snap, Phillip Kingsley elasticizer and Olaplex 3 (now I know the difference, thank you!) all amazing and I like to rotate them all to mix it up a bit! I love the advice of not buying expensive items and then being too afraid to use them.

littlemissfloral1: I have oily and wavy hair, I use Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Oil mask every week and it makes a crazy difference in my hair. It's so much shinier and healthier ever since I started being consistent with it!

Good morning xox: Never heard of a hair gloss but going to try it now thanks to you!

Sofia Lazcano-fafard: Im so happy to see you more often!!! But still, you could make me wait 3 years and i would never leave you

ronny: the effort you put on your videos, the edit, everything is just immaculate

Gigi Beah: I love the Briogio Don’t Despair Repair in apple honey. And it comes in the cutest little bottle! I love lamellar waters and rinses as well. That Colorwow money mask looks pretty, I’m not sure if it’s worth the price though

sellmoon: i always learn something new in your videos! ❤ I've never heard of hair gloss before but now i want to try it , my hair is wayvy so it can be dull and become very frizzy. this might be exactly what it needs

🌀: Just inspired me to start looking into the 3 types of masks!! Omg I can't wait to start my hair journey now I've had a pixie and grew it out to chest length two times already but now I'm so stubborn and just want it waist length- hopefully this will help the gloss is my favorite I really didn't know it existed and God is the results drop dead gorgeous!!

So Vain As Hell: I mix argan oil, coconut oil, castor oil, avocado oil and olive oil with a some heavy cream mask usually shea or something from Sallys. I apply it to dry hair in sections and leave on for an hour while doing chores. Then wash as usual. I apply an inexpensive gloss clear shine from Sallys, same brand as my hair dye a few days later.

Trina Clark: Love this video !!! K18 is my go to for hair repair, since 2020! It's a miracle!!! For hydration its Olaplex #8 deep conditioning treatment and for a gloss, its been "wow dream coat" !! Blessings and love from Panama !!

Jessica Orban: On an unrelated note, I LOVE your nails in this. That color is stunning!

ZariDV: I've never heard of glosses. I'd love to try one out!

Belle Boutique: I have curly hair and I switch masks depending on if my hair needs moisture or protein. There are moisturizing masks and protein masks and you need to be able to tell which you need to help keep your hair balanced and healthy. Olaplex is for repairing the damaged bonds if you’ve over processed your hair and damaged it. Just an fyi. ❤

Andrea O'Connor: I haven 2C/ 3A curly hair, medium density and fine strands, and I find my hair loves the Noughty to the rescue intense moisture treatment ! It also loves the Garnier papaya or aloe vera mask.. my hair doesn’t seem to agree with shea moisture masks or olaplex, neither work well for my hair

Christie Nicole: Our actual queen. The quality of your content is unmatched.

Lizy Cardenas: My hair is 3A/3B curly, super thick and high density, low porosity with dryer ends, no heat or chemical damage and I'm about 20% gray. I've been following a capillary schedule for about a year now. My favorite hair masks right now are high quality argan oil as an oil treatment (nutrition), Garnier's whole blends honey treasures mask (Hydration) and 7 day fermented rice water followed by the Ellizaveca cer-100 collagen coating hair treatment (protein/ repair). I also love adding extra ingredients to my masks (I use one every wash day followed by conditioner) depending on the purpose so for hydration I can add glycerin, honey, hyloronic acid etc

Ani Alva: I love your videos! Thank you so much for all the info and answering all the questions we have about this

Kirsty Macfarlane: I love the money masque from colorwow. I have bleached hair and it's made a huge difference. I also use my regular conditioner after I've rinsed my masque out. Thanks lovely lady for the application tips and I'm definitely going to give a gloss a try xxx

tecnapurin: Just curious, but for times you use hair masks, do you generally incorporate conditioner as well? Like would you add it after the hair mask? I don’t have oily hair and my hair tends to frizz pretty easily.

Florencia Prada: Thank you! I am really into my hair care so I watch a ton of videos and, girl, this one is different from the rest

Michelle Stella: I absolutely love the hair mask and especially the hair serum from function of beauty. But right now I'm using Kérastase.

Natalie Dube: I actually don’t mind pantee or that’s 3 minutes moist one from that Aussie brand, I haven’t had bad experiences with drugstore ones. I did really like a 20$ one I got from Function of Beauty but I only bought it once because it was expensive.

XxGamer GirlxX: On a side note Hair masks don't add nutrition or hydration. Each conditioning agent only coats the hairshaft and protects it from further damage. These hair "glossing" products work about the same as that. Only bond building products directly repair the hair. Hair hates water. "Hydrating" is a big mistake. Companies use those terms so it is easier for consumers to know what to buy,and I feel like for a lot of people when something feels dry our instinct is to add water to fix it. Hair doesn't work like that though as water damages it and makes it more fragile, think of how delicate your hair is when wet or humidity hair. Other than that! Great video and I'm sure gonna do a mask today!

huh: I have 2 questions, can anyone help pls!? 1. Do you apply the gloss before or after the hair mask? and 2. how often should you do hair masks?

eraikuu: I never knew there were different types! I always learn something new with your videos! Been using the Pantene Miracle Mask since forever and is my absolute holy grail especially when I transitioned out of my very damaging, hair rebonding phase years ago!

Cece Trejo: I didn’t even know what a hair gloss was this is such an informative video.

S Vogel: I don't have a favorite mask, I love going through TJMaxx and picking out the prettiest I can find^^

No Madge: I’ve got kinky curly hair (3c/4a if you subscribe to the curl type chart thingy) and my favorite hair mask is the Amika hair food one. My hairdresser introduced it to me and it works wonders on my naturally dry curls.

Reece Schurger: LOVING the consistency

Aditi Mukhopadhyay: You're uploading videos on a regular basis. This already made me happy. And its not even Christmas yet.

malina: I love that you’ve started posting so much Youtube needed you!

Annabell Diaz: Dark Oil Lightweight Mask by Sebastian is absolutely the best for my curly dry hair. Loooove you videos btw! Hugs from DR.

Alonso Martii: Thanks, I'll be doing some of this rather than my rough routine. I'm sure my long hair will appreciate it.

anic131313: Breaking news: there is no difference between most conditioners and masks. Some conditioners are also thick and very rich and many masks contains very little in their INCI. Just focus on putting hair product with every wash day, don't damage your hair on a daily basis and you'll be fine.

Kelley Broussard: One of your most visually satisfying video's yet, Alexandra! One of my best beauty secrets is being subscribed to your channel. Thanks for all you do!!

D: I Love the frequent uploads!! Keep up the good work

Bburstgamer: I'm a big fan of hair masks especially the homemade natural ones. My go to mask is 1 egg, 2 tsp of lemon juice, 3 tsp of yogurt, 1 banana and a tsp of cooked rice (no need to add water) Blend all this together and strain it with a fine cloth and apply like applying hair color and leave it on for an hour or two and wash it off without shampoo... I do this at least once a week

Ivy Marie: I love your videos been a sub for years! Rn I'm using Gloss.Me hydrating treatment mask this is by DESIGNME. It's vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, paraban free, sulfate free, it has: argan oil, cannabis sativa seed oil & moringa seed oil. I have used this for 2+ years. I have straight&wavy hair long almost waist length, my daughter (5yrs) has wavy&curly hair super long past her waist- we both use this. It smells floral like a beautiful spring morning - like gardenia flowers. Bonus: The tube is made of sugarcane also good for the environment ✌️

Leilani Chee-A-Kwai: I always oil and massage my scalp, then put a mask through the rest of my hair and it’s seriously changed the game

Esraa Adam: Wonderful ! But I think you can section ur hair for easier application and making sure u don’t miss any strand

Smol Sunflower: How often should hair masks be used? Or bond repairs?

lylavati: I use a comb to spread the mask everywhere. Thank you for the information

Linda Deáková: You never miss, love every single video

Laura C: That blue container hair mask I’m the beginning is the Color Wow Money Mask and it’s AMAZING!!!!!!! It’s kinda pricey but you get a big tub of it. Highly recommend

Priyanka D'sa: I simply use an egg, olive oil and honey as my hair mask...it works. It is also completely natural

Merry Clark: i use a wide toothed comb to distribute my mask more effectively through my hair :)

a s: Medium thick curly hair that I always keep straight: Garnier hair food mask with banana ( I have been using it for about 6 or 7 years

ChesireSays🔮: My favorite hair mask is “Twist strengthen the bond”. I saw it on Manes by mell’s video where she explained the science behind the product and how it works. Another favorite is Shea moisture Manuka honey moisture mask, also discovered it thanks to Mel.

just-married: How often do you hair mask? Also, can I follow a mask with a glosser in the same sitting, or are they better for separate days?

Jasmine J.: Is it ever bad to leave the mask in longer than recommended on the product?

AlexandrasGirlyTalk: 2 Things 1. You can assume replacing your conditioner with a mask 1/2 of the time will help with the health of your hair. If you would like to make your whole hair texture smoother* (if it's coarse* and no this won't be as effective as a chemical smoothing treatment) I recommend using mask's each time you wash! Personally, I rarely use conditioner only - unless I'm in a real rush! 2. A mask acts like a more professional-version of a conditioner - meaning, you don't' *need* to use a conditioner after the mask. I suggest a leave in conditioner/blow-dry cream after washing if you use a blow dryer (+ heat protection).  Note: On several occasions, I have used a mask, rinsed it out, and applied a conditioner overtop then rinsed it out. If you have coarse hair, like me, you might love doing this! It's a little extra but it works to add as much elasticity as possible to your dry hair

Ms.Queue: Yeah I definitely needed that insight about using a mask more regularly instead of hoarding one "for later". The best mask for my hair by far has been the Maui Moisture castor oil + neem mask , and for whatever reason, this specific MM mask is out of stock in the US a lot, so I have to find it through odd retailers or get it from Canada. It's a mess! For that reason, it drives the price up, I end up using it way less than I really NEED to and my hair suffers for it. I've already begun looking into more affordable and accessible masks, so I'll take this video as a sign I'm on the right track! Thanks as always, Alex

thatgirlwholovesanime: i love that your post more instead once a month love your videos :)

Inimu: Try brushing through your mask to spread it, it amazing

Shi-Hui: I’ve been trying to search for a good but also affordable hair masks since forever! Can anyone recommend some good ones here? :)

Sara Or: I LOVE your videos soooo much , keep posting

Alina Agafonova: Could you please do a tutorial for hairstyle shown in the end of the video? Because my hair type is looking like yours but i have no idea how you receive such a good looking hairstyle out of curly hair

Diya B: Thank you for this! I just bought a hair mask and the instructions on how to apply it weren't clear or detailed.

Sewar Blasi: I love ur videos and still waiting for ur “skin care 101 video “, I have curly hair

Jenna Grove: Would you say it's necessary to use a masque on your bangs? I know people condition their hair normally from the mid-length downward.

crystal zapata: When I put the mask on my roots my hair falls out but then how do we hydrate the scalp??

My Silver Screen Diary: Can I use all three on a beauty/hair day?

Ana: my favourite mask is just an argon oil mask, i first got it for £1 but the price ranges to £3 and it’s SO thick and does wonders for my hair. it’s a brown tub and green lid, i highly recommend for anyone with long frizzy/ wavy hair!!

C H: Camille Rose algae renew is divine

Gin Gin: How about oiling?

Trisha Morgan: Thankyou so much for this information! I am going to get Olexpex and a gloss. I do mask.

Elise Clavel: i have both thick and coarse hair so wash day is a bit lengthy haha

Julie Juju: Do you guys have NATURAL ingredient mask suggestions?

Lunalovification: Hey thanks for the video. I would have two questions plz. 1)do you use conditioner when you use a mask ? And 2) do you use heat for better effect of Your ask ? (Like reheat a towel and put it on your head etc). Thanks again !!

Addie Gitschlag: I love you so much I am so happy you are posting again all of your videos make my. You make me feel beautiful.

angelxsiren: I have wavy hair (2c/3a). I try to use a mask once a week. I usually use Shea moistures protein power about once a month(or whenever I think my hair needs some protein), and deva curl melt into moisture the other times. I was able to get it on sale for half off when they were switching out the packaging sometime last year. That being said, once I run out, I'll probably try something new :)

Mo Buckey: Hair below the waist club! Masks are essential for me with 2B hair and my boo with 3C hair. We’ve been happily using Lush for almost 10 years but we are open to trying any cruelty free recommendations! ❤

hawa kabu: I love hair masks. I use the PK Elasticizer along with Olaplex number 8. My hair loves both masks.

jenny escobar: Can we use the gloss after shampoo and hair mask

pearlite: One that has improved my frequency of using hair masks is that I make my hair damp in the sink before going for a shower (I typically don't shampoo very often so that's fine for me), and this way I can apply the mask before showering. I prefer this instead applying it in the shower and then waiting 10 minutes, and losing some of the product because the shower is still on and rinsing it out. And also I don't want to have to step out of the shower to apply my mask. I alternate been using the Shea Moisture Protein Treatment, and Shea Moisture Strengthen & Repair Treatment, once a week.

Jenni Montalvan: You don’t deep condition your scalp ?
