I'm about 3 years into my gray hair transition, and I FINALLY have the length I love. It's time for a fresh cut, and I've been so inspired by some of the layered cut trends I've been seeing-- some call them Butterfly Cuts or C-Shape Cuts. Those of us who were around in the 1990's might see this as a "Rachel".

I also picked up a new kind of shampoo to fight yellowing--my stylist recommended trying L'Oreal Professionnel's Metal Detox shampoo to help lift the metals from my plumbing that might be adding yellow to my gray/grey/silver hair.

Good morning, hey everybody, it's Beth welcome to infinite Garden. Today I am going to get a haircut. It will be my first haircut in about seven months. I'Ll show some pictures of what my hair looked like before and after my haircut from the spring, I'm about three years into my gray hair transition. That would put me in sort of a beyond my transition phase. About a year ago, I had my big cut, where I chopped off all of the remaining dye in my hair I'll put a card up for that video. If you want to see that at the time of that cut, I was willing to go much much shorter than is my comfort zone, because I was tired of the dyed hair. I kind of wanted to get that old energy off of me and the hair itself was extremely damaged and brittle, and it was in sharp contrast to the kind of health and a good quality of my natural gray growth. I just wanted to get rid of it and since that time, I've had just that one haircut back in the spring I've been trying to let my hair grow back to the length where I'm comfortable with it, which this is kind of it. You know this is about where I like to have the length of my hair, but what I want today out of my cut is I want some layers. I'Ve been looking at some really inspiring pictures. I'Ve been looking at images of butterfly cuts and all of that I've been kind of playing with maybe parting, my hair, a little more down the middle, possibly which is not something I normally do. I'Ve always kind of gone for this, like the slightly off-center look, but I'm going to talk to my hair stylist Brandon we're going to do a good trim, because I do have some split ends. I want to clean up, but I also want to remove some of the heaviness I'll, give you a little bit of the spin, so you can see. I personally think right now that most of my layers are a little too long and I'd like to add a little bit of like lift and a little bit of face. Framing I'm going to turn my back to the camera. You can kind of see it's just like a heavy wall of hair, so I was thinking - maybe I might want to like you know, get some more layers up get a little more Motion in the hair. I also want Brandon to look at my color. I have been using purple shampoos, which I think have deposited some color into my hair. Maybe in some cases that's a good thing, maybe in some cases it's more than I wanted and in some cases like at the top of my hair, where I get more sun exposure and basically more environmental exposure, I do have some yellowing, so I'm going to ask Brandon what he thinks about that and get some ideas from him. We may do a little bit of toning, but I don't want to do anything too. Crazy, sometimes We'll add a gloss just to increase the shine. So that's the plan for the day. I'M excited about this and I'm going to take you with me. As far as I can foreign, okay, I'm back, these are the layers we did sort of a modified, butterfly cut, and what that means in this case is that I don't have perfect symmetry on either side. He designed it so that I could have my hair parted in the center or, if I want to go to my comfort zone, which is maybe like more like here, that it would still work well like that either way. So I can wear it either way. But what I have is some high layers here and some long layers here, so you can kind of see one of the things I don't like about my hair when it gets longer, is that in the back it can look heavy like an uninterrupted wall of hair. So we made sure to put lots of layers in the back that are kind of high, so this is it I honestly feel like it might be. The best my hair has ever looked in my entire life. I can honestly feel that way. I'M also confident this is going to grow out. Well, this will be a cut that should look good for many months to come. The other thing I wanted to share was I asked Brandon to look at my color and to look at the toning and what he thought was that some of the very light yellowing that we were seeing he attributed to mineral deposits. That may be related to my copper piping, and so he recommended that I try this L'Oreal metal detox. He said that this bonds to the metals and then we'll rinse them down the drain, basically we're lifting metal coloring from my hair. I don't really know I'm not an expert on this, but I'm just repeating what he told me. So we used that what this was was like a shampoo. It sat on my hair for a couple of minutes. We did right in the bowl and I think it did lift my hair. I took all of the warmth out of it and I think my hair looks really brilliantly bright without having used a lavender toner, so he recommended that I use this, maybe every fourth wash. I don't wash my hair very often because I have textured curly hair. I tend to wash my hair, maybe twice a week. I do sort of a wash day routine. So he again he suggested that I use this. Every four washes, so I will absolutely be checking back in with you guys on this to see how this serves as potentially a replacement for purple toner. I often find that the purple toner can be just too intense for my silver hair and maybe better suited for you know, bleached blonde hair, which I had for a really long time, and I made great use of purple shampoos. Then I just sometimes feel like after I wash my hair with purple shampoo, my hair looks a little purple and what I really want is for it to look really bright and really white. So I feel like I have that tonight after using this and so we're gon na see how it works over the Long Haul I'm so into this. We have two parties to go to tomorrow, one in the afternoon and then one in the evening. So I'm so glad that my hair is looking good. These layers are really giving me life honestly. This might be the best haircut of my life if you haven't subscribed yet, please consider doing so at a minimum feel free to give this video a like anyway. I hope you're all doing well out there and I hope you have a great week ahead. Thank you so much for watching talk soon.

Shelley: Wow! Your hair looks spectacular!! I love that you found a solution for the yellowing, other than a toner. I’ve seen enough disaster stories of women who used a toner of one sort of another, and then ended up being so unhappy, they went back to colouring their hair again. You are stunning in your silver hair!!

C. Blake: Wow, Beth! Your haircut and specially formulated L'Oreal (clarifying?) shampoo treatment has made your hair look even more beautiful! I'm intrigued with the idea that this cleansing product can be used to keep silver hair evenly toned versus using a lavender, mildly color-depositing treatment. I hope you'll update us over the next few months on how/when you use this new shampoo, whether it plays nicely with your other hair styling products and heat styling tools, etc. I've fine-tuned what's bugging me about marketing against warmer toned silver hair. Apart from media/marketing exposure, I think many people would simply prefer their hair to be roughly *evenly toned* once they decide to skip the dye, regardless of whether their personal gray hair "undertones" lean warmer or cooler. This preference for even toned silver hair is in contrast to gray hair with specific segments mysteriously becoming discolored. To my ear, many marketers of products for silver hair don't make this distinction. Again I say, live and let live. But I don't want to internalize this idea that it's never cool toned *enough,* even if I've prevented or reverses random discoloring. All of this is to say, I am hopeful you find this new L'Oreal shampoo to be helpful. If so maybe it will help others who are experiencing discoloration from minerals in their water. Yaaay!

Gray Hair Transition and Beyond: Hi Beth! Your hair looks beautiful! I love layers but have been afraid to get them because I wasn’t sure how it would look with the long gray. I thought maybe with the gray it would look rough at the ends-looks like I was so wrong! I had layers when I was growing out my pixie but never with the long hair. I really like how it looks- your hair is so bouncy and full of volume. Please give a review on the metal detox shampoo! Do you use a shower head filter? I had yellowing in the beginning and got one and it helps so much not only by keeping my hair from turning yellow from the water but also helps my skin (I used to break out a lot before I got a shower head filter).

Jewbe Sixty: Two thumbs up, hair cut looks great Beth! Yeah, lets us know about the shampoo and thanks, for sharing. Have a good week!

Denise Brennan: Hi, Beth - I'm new to your channel as of today and really like your videos. I'll be curious about the metal detox outcome. I don't have copper pipes but have a well here at my home and there is a lot of iron in our water. A whole-house filtration system would be $6k, so that's on hold for the time being. I'm just considering the transition to gray and will talk to my stylist this week. I tried last spring, and just couldn't do it, but with all the info out now - like your channel - I want to be ready to do this. It's not a professional thing for me, but I'm 73 and "haven't wanted my sons to think they have an old lady for a mom!" It's going to take some courage for me and I want it to succeed this time.

Jackie: Beth your hair looks absolutely beautiful. The new cut is fabulous. I got some layers put in a few weeks back and it just lifts the heaviness out. Happy Christmas and all the very best to you and yours for 2023. Jx ♥️

Brenda W.: Your hair and the cut look absolutely beautiful. Great choice!

Lisa Mackenzie: Just fabulous!!! As always I look forward to seeing how it will look with your natural curl also.

Elizabeth Kerr: I love how happy you are after your haircut, I'm chuffed for you.

Shannon Flanigan: Your hair looks so fabulous! Enjoy the parties. And thank you so much for the insight on cooper pipes. It never occurred to me that my cooper pipes might be the issue behind the yellowing of my silver. I air dry my hair, use UV protection and wear a hat when I am outside and couldn't figure out why I am still having some yellowing. Got to be the pipes!

Louise Alain: Yessss absolutely stunning, your hairdresser did a great cut and style. I will check out that shampoo as well, thank you for sharing and have a great week ❤‍

Frannie B: Have fun at the parties. You look fabulous and although I won't have my gray hair long, I am into month 7 of the growing out and I am inspired by you.

Rene Klein: Beth, your hair is incredible. I absolutely love the cut. Your hair is so bouncy and shiny. Your hairdresser is fantastic. Enjoy your new cut. Super glamorous. ❤❤ Hope your mom is mending well. ❤

Anabel Clarke: Hi Beth, great choice of cut. With your hair being thick you can pull this cut off easily. My hair is thin so if I cut layers in at the back, I lose too much weight at the bottom and the thin bits at the bottom look ridiculous (the distribution of weight is off then). So, your are lucky in that way. Good tip about the metal detox. Must try this one. Please keep us posted how you style your hair now in different ways. Has it changed to before?

Karen Ley: Beth your hair looks wonderful!. I too have white/silver hair and find the purple shampoo can be tricky, I'm going to give the metal detox shampoo a try. Thanks for the video

Jeannie: Lovely hair Beth! It must be time for layers because I as well got tired of looking at my wall of hair and decided to add some layers and more face framing layers to the front. I still need to go to the salon to get the ends trimmed off Anyways your hair looks gorgeous as usual

Tracey Chiang: Your haircut looks great! Also I will be very interested to hear how the metal detox shampoo works.

Leanne B: It looks amazing

Jane Sinclair Hilk: Love your cut. Do please keep us posted on the metal detox. So hoping it is a viable alternative to get rid of the yellowing I'm experiencing. Happy holidays!

QuickSilverHair: Gorgeous cut!!! I’ll check out the shampoo for everyone, too.

Yolanda Tauben: Beautiful haircut Beth!

Tamara’s Timeless Beauty: Wow! You have the most gorgeous hair...and your cut and style is perfection. I need to try that L'Oreal Shampoo...Happy Sunday Beautiful Beth
