Hey everyone Kayley your friendly neighborhood hairstylist here and today we're gon na talk about some weird tips and tricks to get more volume in your hair, slash hairline.. Now I've done a ton of videos on how to volumize your hair, because I have naturally fine somewhat flat hair and I like big hair., But every time I make one of those videos. I have these tips that end up on the cutting room floor. They'Ve not made it to light, and I want to share them with you, because I use them all the time. And I feel like they're so helpful because they take less then a minute and make the biggest difference.. So I wanted to share it with you. I hope that you enjoy it. Let'S get into it. First trick. Don'T part your hair flip your hair.. Whenever you can see this distinct little line, that kinda makes things a little flatter because your hair is parted, so it's gon na lay down.. Also, anytime, you can see scalp, it makes your hair look a little bit thinner, not a lot, but whenever you don't see scalp anymore, that's when the hair really starts to look super full., So I would say you just grab some hair, don't part it and you Flip it over and it can be as deep of a side part or not just depending on whatever you want.. This looks particularly great when your hair is curled. I love, but you can also get the idea here. Like there's more lift to my hair already, and the great thing is like through the day. If your hair starts to fall, zhooshing isn't working anymore, you take it, you flip it to the other side, the volume with be there, because your hair is used to laying the other way.. I know a lot of girls with long hair are part flippers, because we just kinda like to like play with our hair throughout the day., But that works to your advantage.. I would say: try not to get to into the root. We don't want to add anymore oils. You know just take up here, flip it over. Take it here, flip it over day in day out.. Now, on to our next tip this one, I learned on Pinterest and when I first saw it, I had a bit of disgust, because I thought it was really just a view. Grab. I was like this is not gon na work. This is dumb. People will do anything for clicks, blah, blah blah and then one day in desperation, I tried it and I love it, and it is now like one of my go-tos. And it's using a toothbrush as a teasing brush.. Now, before I say anything else, this is my dedicated hair toothbrush.. This has never seen my teeth. It will never see my teeth, it is just for hair., But essentially you do what I just said. You use it as a teasing brush, and I love it because it gives you that extra little it of lift without turning it into helmet and seriously damaging your hair.. It'S just that extra little touch that you can do in 10 seconds and it looks amazing.. My next trick is using hair-building, fibers. And you're, probably most familiar with these from infomercials on mostly bald men, but it is not just for that.. You can use it in any sparse areas of your hair or any areas that you want to look extra extra extra full.. So I have two brands. I love. I have Caboki which I've used for a really long time. It has a nice subtle shine to it very subtle, but I like that about it. Another one. That'S really great and I have used up entire bottles of are the Toppik fibers.. You can buy these at Sally's like now.. Now I don't use these when my hair is down very often, but let's talk about the ponytail. Shall we This is when my hair fibers come into place., So I'm just gon na do this on one side cause. I have another trick. I'M gon na show you guys, but you'll get the idea.. So for my hairline on my ponytail, I like to to look like very full and kinda frame, my face a little bit. And you can see it dips right here.. Now there is nothing wrong with that. Like do not feel like you need to cover that up.. I just now how I like to frame my face a little bit and I like for there to be a little bit more fullness through here.. So I like to add a little Toppik powders in this area, because I have some little hairs for them to grab onto and then it will make everything look a lot more full.. So I'm gon na use this little hairline apparatus and I'm gon na put it right against here and I'm trying to fill in this area.. So I'm literally gon na take this like a salt shaker and shake it onto my hair. And once you've done that you're gon na pat it into place to get rid of any excess powders and have the powders that are there to really be like set into Place. And if you end up with any stray fibers, it's really easy to remove just use a washcloth and wipe them off and everything will be good to go.. When I look from the front, you can see that it frames my face differently than the side without and when I look from the side, you can see that it looks a lot fuller than the other side. And, like I said it's not something that you have To do, but you wan na feel, like you have that full pop star ponytail it's a great way to do. It., Although you will note that I have a tiny little bit still receded. That'S cause. I literally don't have hair right here. So there was nothing for the hair fibers to stick to., But we're gon na address that in our next step.. So we have our next tip, courtesy of Jen Adkin she's, a celebrity hair stylist, who I follow and love, but she also posts a lot of her tips and tricks on her Instagram stories.. One of them was to use brow powders in the hairline and the part to make your hair look thicker. And I tried it out and I love it., So you can totally use brow powders and you've. Seen me do that in videos, but one thing I've been trying recently is using gray coverup powders, like literally powders, that you're meant to use on your hair to cover gray between salon visits., And there are some pricey options out there. But I found this one from Clairol at Target for $ 10, maybe $ 11, and it's just this really pigmented brown powder comes with a brush and a little mirror, and you just go to work. On this side. I'Ll show you what it looks like with powder, and I chose this side, because this side has a little bit more hair and I do find that this is best when you do have some hair there. I wouldn't use this on completely. Bald areas can be a little obvious., But if you're just filling in some like sparser areas in your hair, it's a good option. And then I'm actually gon na use some hairspray on the powders and the hair fibers.. That does two things. First of all, it keeps it in place all day, but second of all, it actually takes down some of that powdery look kind of like a makeup setting spray. It makes everything look a lot more realistic and seamless.. Now I am showing you guys, like the most full coverage option like this is fully opaque. If you want it to look a little bit more realistic, you could go with just a light. Little veil of powder or building fibers either way it's gon na help. It look fuller, it just depends on how much you wan na do.. Now, let's say that you don't wan na change your hairline, but maybe you've pulled your ponytail up and it has these little lines in between the hairs that you don't want to see.. You can also use the powder for that. And obviously I'm showing this to you guys on a ponytail, but this would be really really great for braids, especially if you put your hair back into like dutch braid pigtails, and you want this to still look full in The front. It's a great thing to do. At the end of the day, this all comes down to preference like how do you want your ponytail to look? How do you want your hairline to look? How do you want your braids to look and I'm just trying to give you the tools to do whatever you wan na do.? This is not saying that you have to have a hairline in one specific way, because that's completely against what I believe when it comes to hair. I just wanted to through that out there. This is not like me, giving you a rule. This is me giving you a tool that you can use. However, you want. Not to be an after school special. I just I feel like, especially in the past. The beauty industry was built around teaching you to be insecure about yourself and then selling you products based on those insecurities and that's the opposite of what I'm here. For. Like. I want you to come to styling your hair, putting on an outfit or doing your makeup from a place of excitement and happiness and like this is how I want to present myself to the world. This is how I want to style myself, and I want you to take pride in that and I want everything that you do to come from a place of self esteem and so like. If you want to wear your hair in braids, I'm a teach you how to do it. If you wan na, have voluminous hair I'll teach you how to do it., But none of that is because you're hair isn't okay the way it is it's just because sometimes That'S what you want to do, and I'm here to help you learn how to do it.. Okay, sorry had to have that moment because, like the philosophy major in me just needs you guys to know how I think about my channel and like what my motivation is.. Alright, I'm done let's get back to hair., (, dance, music, ) And, of course finish it off with hairspray., (, dance, music, ) And that's the hairline like fully fined in like this is as thick as I'm ever gon na go. It is cool to see like how full you can make your hairline look when you want to and it's cool, because you can dial it all the way up or you can just like eek the volume up just a little bit whatever you want to do.. So that's what you can do with your hairline and it even makes a difference when your hair is down. So even if you're not wearing your hair up, you can fill this in a little bit and it will help everything to look fuller.. But you can also use this on your part. To make things looks fuller, so I'm gon na show you that now.. So let's say that you've done your hair flip, but you know you can still see scalp a little bit., So I'm gon na go through and everywhere I see scalp. I'M gon na put a little powder.. Here'S a little life spoiler. Whenever you see like a hair enhancement ad of some kind like whether it be hair, skin and nails pills - or I don't know some kind of topical treatment, when you look at the before and afters, the parts have always been filled in so sorry to ruin. For you forever, because now you're only gon na be able to see that., But it's definitely something that people do. And as annoying as that is they do it because it works. It just makes the hair flip look like more of an accidental hair flip.. At the same time, not seeing the scalp makes your hair look fuller.. This is a nice little trick to have. Okay. This feels like a ton of volume to me, but I definitely wan na show you guys everything you can do, and all of this looks very good when your hair is curled and like super wide too it's just like big hair goals.. Now, on the part, this can last for multiple days, it might start to wear off in areas, so you can add more it.. But if you don't like the idea of adding powder on top of powder on top of powder, you can always flip your part to the other side the next day and then either fill it in or not depending on your preference.. Now, when it comes to the hairline, I do not recommend rocking that one day to day to day to day. What I recommend doing is just taking a makeup wipe and getting as much of that powder or hair building fibers off as possible, and that way you Know the next day you can either add more. If you want of you, don't have to., Because, at least in my experience I've been able to get about 90 % at the end of the day. So, the next day you don't really see that 10 % and it's totally fine. You can live your life. However, you want to filled in not filled in whatever. And that's it for our weird volume tips and tricks. Adriana A: My hair is so damn flat that when I flip it it just looks awkward. Tell me I'm not the only one.

Catherine Davies: I was bullied in school relentlessly for having a "weird" hairline" or "bald spot", and to hear your disclaimer about wanting to be encouraging and positive when it comes to playing with your hair as opposed to "fixing" hair "problems" honestly made me cry, because I really needed to hear that. :') Thank you. And thank you for the tips. ❤️

Indy D: "I'm not giving you a rule, I'm giving you a tool" I feel like that has to be a punchline at the end of all your videos, or tutorial videos in general, because it's so important!

Liz Sanchez: So well said “ I’m not giving you a rule but a tool” Honest and sincere video. Thank you!

Major Robinson: That is so kind of you to convey that the way you look is not something to be ashamed of, but a true beauty, and hairstyles and makeup are to make you happy and feel good! I was crying inside! Love you Kayley!

J Em: I loved that you took the time to tell your viewers that they are enough just the way they are and address what ads, beauty products, etc tend to tell us is the opposite. Thank you so much, it's refreshing and frankly, much needed.

Emma MacGregor: Hi Kayley, Always love your tips! I had the space at my forehead for many years, due to heavy hair worn in ponytails. I started putting pure castor oil (hexane-free, cold pressed...Jamaican Black Castor Oil is wonderful too) on those spots overnight before I washed my hair...although even 30 minutes before shampooing will help too....and within 3 months I had loads of baby hairs and a year later both sides are totally filled in. Give it a try. :)

Kate: TIP: instead of spending money on hair fibers which can be expensive, get a tinted dry shampoo! Its made to add volume and the tint will do what the fibers would have done

Chris H: I love these root-focused volume tips, because that's what I really need as someone with super thick, wavy hair. Otherwise I just get the dreaded pyramid hair. (Even the powder trick was helpful because my hair is oddly thin at the temples)

Alternate Echo: Also, just sleeping with your hair up can make it have more volume, especially if it's in a high bun or if you braid your hair on the top of your head (so when you braid you pull up). It's the same trick as when you blow dry your hair upside down, only without heat.

pilarrrgh: Thank you so much for these great ideas. I used to have the thickest hair in the world, but recent illness caused it to fall out by about 2/3 my original amount of hair. I have been so upset but these are really easy ways to trick the eye. Thanks for the positive message and for being aware that these things can help us feel how we want to feel without making us feel worse about ourselves. ❤

Annalise: My hair is literally eight times as thick as Kayley's... But I'm still watching cuz I love her videos

JOYTODRACO: "thats why her hair is so big , its full of secrets" - damian (mean girls)

SUJATA CHAKRABARTI: Dear Kayley, Could you please do some hairstyles which could be done before going to bed to keep the hair in good health? I love your videos, Thank you so much!!

Laura H: Kayley you're so inspiring! You've really helped me enjoy doing my hair more. I used to hate doing the same old ponytail every single day, and then I found your channle and it totally turned my hair game around! Thank you for being amazing!

ThatOneChick: I recently found your videos, and I am enthralled! I was never taught to do girly stuff, so YouTube is providing me great teachers like you! Thank you!

Michelle Byrd: Kayley!! This has to be my all-time fave video from you! 1. Your your mid-vid rant - YASS!! Your perspective and positivity makes all the difference, and that’s something we could all practice for ourselves. 2. I love these hairline/volume tips, and prefer to frame my face like this, too! 3. That toothbrush song / “Hairbrush” Veggie Tales homage in the bloopers! Lastly, thanks for the bell-notification tip!!! I’m not sure why YouTube keeps making things harder to stay up with our fave YouTube content makers! Thanks again!!

MadE: Very lovely video! Have been filling my "receding" hairline on the temples with eyebrow powder or with straight up bronzer for ages now, works great!

thelittleleni: I know you're struggling with your eyebrows as you mentioned in one of your other videos, but (as a person who's constantly struggling with even/similar/natural eyebrows) I have to say, that I love your eyebrows!! In basically every video I think you're brows are just the perfect combination of fashion and personality, of sleek and natural!!

2015Haley1: I’m so glad you talked about these tips as tools and that you were so honest about what beauty tips are all about. This really spoke to me on a personal level. Thank you .❤️

Till We Have Replicators: "The philosophy major in me needed you to know that..." oh my gosh yes! Some friends say I over think things, but no-you! You let that affirming philosophy of yours is shining through!!!

Eloquent Coaching: I tried the brow powder along my hairline when wearing the ponytail - awesome - looks so natural - soooo happy with it! And the toothbrush trick works too - thanks a big bunch :)

Livia Diana: This is the hairstylist philosophy we need! God, I really loved this. <3

Arc Kocsog: This was super useful, thank you! I have extremely thin hair because of a chronic disease, and have this exact problem above my temples. I hope these products come in blonder shades, too. Is the powder talc-based? Because that's very drying. You are very sweet btw:)

Ankita: This is sooooo helpful! Seems very easy and doable ❤️

UnDeR tHe StArS oVeR ThE mOoN: I have a bunch of baby hairs in my hairline that don’t grow and they are soooo annoying. I used eye shadow to fill in the spot but I should really try this powder stuff!! LOOKS BETTER!! Also, teasing with a toothbrush?! BRILLIANT!!

maricella888: Thanks for all the tips and the inside info on before/ after shots for hair "vitamins". I never would've known your hair was fine if you hadn't mentioned it. You uplifted me today. Thanks!

Aliirielle: I SO needed this. My hair has been looking even more thin and flat than normal (thinking medicine might be the culprit.) Seriously been feeling bummed out when I'm styling my hair. Can't wait to try all of these!

Katti Miller: I love that you fill in your hairline. Because your hair is amazing but everyone still has an area about their look that they think needs extra love.

olivina624: Thanks for taking the time to say what you needed to about beauty marketing and 'fixes'. You really are so positive and sweet!

KC Stone: I neeeeeeded this video, my hair is very similar to your hair Kayley, and I have the peaks with sparse baby hairs that won't grow if their life depended on it, so these tips are very helpful! I will use the hair flip day to day, and the filling in the hairline when I do my photo and video shoots (because I'm too lazy to do it every day )! Thanks girl!

Alana Clark: I love what you said about self esteem, it really have me a confidence boost!

Maike: Thanks, these are so helpful. I would really appreciate another video on hairstyles for straight hair. My hair just doesn't hold curls for longer than a couple of hours, so I really love it when you do hairstyles on straight hair.

Abby Beardsley: My hair’s really thick and I’ve always been taught to do a clean side part. Recently I started wondering why my hair never looked good, and the first trick helps so so much!!

Anna Fontenot: I absolutely love when people can step out of the comfort zone. Admit thay are imperfect, and help others. You made me feel so comfortable and secure with fine things hair. And be proud either way. Thank you. You are beautiful

Helene Kristoffersen: I love how you talk about doing things for your looks, that its not supposed to come from a place of insecurity. You got a subscriber

Maria Cor Reyna Mari Mutoc: This is my first video that i watched in her channel and few minutes in this video i can already say that i like her, and i don't even know why. Halfway through this vid, i said, now i know why. I've been unfollowing beauty channels in the past because it made me feel insecure about myself and that you have to have/buy this and that product to completely feel good about yourself. The positive philosophy of this channel just came through i guess, that's why like her. God bless your soul kaley. Much love from phils.

chelsey makes: Thank you for your hair pep talk! I love your videos and appreciate all the help you provide for us for free! ❤️❤️

desighee: I JUST discovered your videos and channel and while I'm not a beauty enthusiast, these hairstyles and hair tips are SO handy! You are an amazing communicator, have great potential to be an educator and I love your genuine enthusiasm and realism. Thank you for being so relatable. I LOVE it when you smile. I found myself smiling with you. It was kinda sweet. :)

Zoe H.: My hair is pretty average in fullness, but I just stumbled across your channel and subscribed because you're such a positive, optimistic person. That's the kind of content I like to see on the internet that I usually can't find

LovedHappy: I’ve literally never really thought of these things this is magical

Janie Tyrell: This is so helpful for a fine/thin/straight-haired girl like myself! Thank you!

Olechka Nova: Girl, we literally have the same forehead and hair type. Thanks for the tips. I'm excited to try them out!

Alyssa Pollock: Hiya! I love your videos! They've helped me treat my hair better and play with my looks. I was wondering, could you do a mini series on guy styling, maintenance/tips/tricks, and what to ask for in the salon? My boyfriend wants to "look cool," as he says, but doesn't know how to achieve the looks he's going for and what I know doesn't work, lol

shatterspeed: I have a pixie cut, so there's not really a point in me watching styling videos. But I keep watching them anyway. I've been subbed for at least a year or two and I never tried any styles, even when I had hair down to my butt. I just enjoy watching the process! You seem like a sweet person.

Haylee Lorton: Honestly just found your channel and wow! Your view on giving us tools rather than being insecure ♥️

Meg Collins: Super helpful. You always do such a great job, Kayley!

Becky McKenna: Fantastic tips, Kayley! I’m looking forward to trying them out ... especially on my Dutch braids! Great job! ❤️

Mae’s Daze: Kayley you're amazing! This video was super helpful! Going to try some of these tricks starting now

Major Robinson: Early squad! These tips are gonna be great! For my short curly hair, I slick it back, then mess it up for volume, but natural curls give volume already. Love these!

shakives: Hi Kayley. Thanks for the great tips. I do the same thing but I use the tinted dry shampoo. I’m going to look into the tinted hair fibers you used.

Ingridlosneslokken: I loved your little positive rant ☺️❤️ and that's exactly what I've been feeling on your channel from the beginning!

Michal: When you tie your hair in a ponytail. Deffinitelly play around with pulling here and there and loosing up some of the hairs to make it look fuller and denser. This can also help round up the hair line by pulling hair above the spots you want to hide. Being a long haired guy I know I will battle receeding hair line one day and I want to be prepared

Beautiful Mess: Instead of brow powder you can use matte eyeshadow, it's cheaper and works just as good. Covers grey as well.

Backstage Beautician: This makes such an amazing difference, I love it! Can you address how all these different products affect your scalp? I'm worries I'll have excess oily-ness or breakouts on my scalp, and my 2nd day hair, as a result of extra product or "makeup" :)

Peg B: I love the positive message you share! I think we don’t always get that message of “do what is right for you”’ from the beauty industry and so that was really nice to hear!

Brooke Wilson: I'm so glad to find a youtuber styling hair that didn't roll up with picture-perfect hair before the tutorial even started. (not that you don't look gorgeous both ways)! From your face shape to hair thickness and length, all of these tips are so helpful and insightful. Thank you so much.

Hannah Bowers: Finally! A hair channel for fine haired ladies! Thank you

Magdalena: We need a tutorial for this makeup look!

Erin Brussell: I definitely have to try these tips when my hair is longer because it gets so heavy! I have a hairstyle question. I graduate from grad school in 2 weeks and I am sure I am not alone in the graduation department =] Do you have any hairstyles in mind that will look good with a graduation cap? Thank you!

Honestly Moore: I love your heart!!! What a wonderful message to put out there! Keep it up girl!!

ruby aarts: Ive been following you for about 7 years now and i still love you more and more every video ❤

Lucie Hristova: Not a fan of volume on me, but I am definitely happy I watched this to get your "channel philosophy" speech. I really like this as to look at it, and you've helped me get ready for so many events in my life! (like graduation, interviews, weddings..), but also to just make everyday a little be better with some nice hair. So thanks, for giving me (us), the tools to achieve what I want with my hair.

Sabina Hertzum: I’m a natural blonde (#9) but color my hair dark... and every time I get a weeks worth of grow out I look balding :( So I use powders - fibers and even colored dry shampoo, and one thing I feel make it more natural is to brush over the area ( especially in the hairline) with a tooth brush or even a teasing brush ;) it removes a lot of the ‘powder’ look, even before I use hairspray...

Ada Draginda: These tips are going to change my life. Thanks so much

JudyLovesNaps: these are some unique tips and I'll definitely try some of these!
