Along the way, Ornelaz stresses the importance of patience and committing to practicing these basic yet critical skills. Once mastered, you will be able to move on to more advanced techniques for adding density, direction, and lifelike flow to your hairpieces for theater, television, and film.

So you want to turn the hair over on itself like that.. This is what we call our turn around. We refer to this as a turn. Around. Generally you'd like to keep it very short, but for this and because you're beginning what I'm gon na do is basically fold the hair in half. We'll make it a longer turn around, and that will make it a little bit easier for the beginner.. Now, keep in mind that, because we've created a longer turn around the length of your hair, when you finish is going to be shorter., So the shorter the turn around the longer the length of your piece. So we'll just fold the hair in half. And sometimes you'll, Have some hairs that are cut a little short.? It'S okay, you're not going to get every single hair into the lace and we'll make a couple of boo boos here, but we'll just move forward. You're, not gon na get a very good knot with dry hair. You want to add moisture into the hair. And the way we do that is we take a cup of hot water and we'll dip the hair into the water.. So on this first half of your square I'll demonstrate the first knot.. So what we're doing is we're taking the needle and we're placing it under the lace and we're drawing and catching a piece of the hair., Bring it through the lace and we basically knot it on itself. And I'll. Do it a second time.? So you just repeat the process.. I also wan na get single hairs. And, as you gain experience, you'll start becoming a little faster.. So that's generally the idea, this being the most difficult part of this entire lesson, is getting that first knot tied.. So what I'd like to do also is maybe just slow that down a little bit for you., Come through the lace and you grasp the hair.. It'S just a slight tension between the tool and your forefinger and thumb, and once you figure out that tension things will be a lot easier, but it just takes practice.. You get that first knot. It'S such a happy thing, happy day.! So we've done a few knots. Now now what I wan na do is show you each step.. I wan na take the knotting tool underneath the lace and I'll freeze there. So you can see that. Now remember you can see the tension that I have the lace at you don't want it too. Loose., But you can see how there is tension on the lace and that's good tension between the needle and the lace there. So I'll hold that there. So you can see that very clearly and then the next step is we'll grab a piece of hair and I'll freeze there.. The next step is bringing it under. Now you're, going to take your hair and wrap it and, at the same time move the tool back towards you. I'll freeze there. Now. You'Re gon na continue bringing the hair around towards you and the needle goes away from you. And I'll freeze there. Now you let the barb catch it and you're coming through I'll freeze, there. Remember you still have that tension, there. Tension on your forefinger and thumb tension On the needle and hair., Now you'll slowly bring the hair through releasing here and drawing the hair through.. So on this front half I really want you to just concentrate on filling. If you can do every other hole. Every other row just get comfortable with the art of tying knots on this first half.. When we get to this second half we're gon na concentrate on trying to hit every barb every little hole.. The reason I want you to capture every little hole here is: I want you to become so familiar with the technique that, when we go onto the next step of building your first mustache that it becomes like second nature. And the only way to do that is To practice, and really finish off this first square. So again, I don't wan na jump too far ahead of ourselves. But what we'll do on this? First half is just continue to knot. And it's always good to have maybe a pair of tweezers handy as you're knotting and you feel like. If your hairs begin to kind of splay, you can take a pair of tweezers and just if you have a loose knot, you can go back in and just squash it.. You can already begin to see what's happening here: you're getting a nice little textured amount of hair. We're not so concerned again with density at this point.. So I'll, take a little more hair. Remember to do your turn around just fold it in half and we'll dip. It into some water. So just I know that my speed is a little faster and this is actually quite slow for me, but after about 20 some odd years, I won't tell you exactly how many, but I've been doing this for such a long time. You'Ll get there too., So just do every other hole and don't worry about how things are looking at this stage. We're just trying to fill. So we'll stop there, and I think what I want you to do now is to continue filling in that half of the Square. Once you've filled that in and you fill comfortable with where you're at come back to me and then we'll do the rest. A little tighter, a little more density to it and then we'll continue there.

Barry Barriette: Thank you. One of my wigs have developed thinning hair at the back, but it's too costly to get someone to repair it. It's a good wig apart from that so I don't want to throw it away. So I bought some hair and will do it myself - thanks to you video. I realise it's a skill, but I am gonna try. Thanks again.

Mercury In Reverse: My cosplay wig has begun to shed a lot of hair, so Im planning on gathering any of the loose hair and adding them back :)

Armani Preciousjewel: I’am going to practice like this

Suhalia Sauls: Thank you for your effort❤️

Liz Lele: What do you do with the short turn around piece once the hair is knotted? Do you snip it? I snip it and my piece is becoming spikey

Davis Torrain: This is so cool!!

Pynk Dymonds Beauty: Great video! Easy to follow. Where is the best place to buy wig making tools and supplies?

Poncik Unicorn 😘 pk xd: would like to ask you something , Once I ordered a lace top wig, it has been done from completely virgin children hair. Lace part of the wig completely tangled after my wash , because the returned short part of the hair strands were holding the long part of the hair strands. And until detangling it a lot of hair has been lost un fortunately. How do you solve this tangling issue with the returned hairs? Are there a solution for that?

Cheryl Ross: You should tell people if the root end is long, the hair will always tangle from the cuticle friction. Not a mustache, but anything longer.

Nancy Palmer: It’s like a super-delicate latch hook kit!

Priya Pierce: I need to see this done with yarn bc I’m blind

Phaytea's Pulse: Please does anyone know what the needle is called? I'll like to order it

Fiona: Thanks for sharing the best video ever x

aliayson: So can this be done on a wig that is already constructed? I bought a very expensive human hair wig but their ear tabs are very noticeable because there isn’t enough hair covering them. I have two other wigs from the same company which are fine. Company not taking refunds or exchanges due to COVID.

Ntombi Shabangu: This is so helpfu. Thank you so much. What do you call this needle

SLOWSiNN IMAGES Melissa Hutton: I wish you could mention what happens when you use make the overturn long on a human hair wig.

Leona Yhap: WOW. I would love to learn.

CreativeToMakeup: Thank you

Phyllis Parris-Borum: Great demo

Lyns World: Best video I've seen.Thank you

Nappy Scribe: I’m going to make one. I’ve bought the supplies!!

fatim kra: Hi i would like to know how many balls of wicks it takes to ventilate a frontal lace?

PUMPKIN CAFE: I can't use this tool ... I don't get it! When I try to pull the hair through it just falls off the needle ... It's frustrating. Unlike the Crochet needle, that has a latch to prevent the hair coming through. Problem with the latchook needle is it often tears the fine lace.

The Mother's Passport: with the hair being folded in half, the cuticle is now going to be going in both ways, and cause it to tagle!

chajena wallace: If yo know how to crochet on wool/cotton thread then this shouldn't be hard it's like tying a knot. Gonna make my first lace this weekend and then my crochet wig. No need to buy one for $13000, when I can make use of some skills.

Lovebug2719: Thank you for your video.made my Knott

Abigail Dunn: Hello I live in the UK and I'm really struggling where to buy hair so I can make repairs to thinning parts of my wigs. Please can you help?! Thanks for the video! X

N G: Amazing

Tina Francisco: Wow so perfect

Cali9000: The different camera angles for one move was super frusterating omg

Nneka Micheal: Love ur work

ana anushi: You are amazing

Leam G: Where does one buy the lace required?

Roberto G: Thanks so much for Best teaching in knotting hair to lace. i have just 2 questions. 1) What can I use to seal knot? 2) With wig lace is it possible use virgin cuticles correct hairs? What about tangling because of cuticles in upside direction? Thanks in advance for help.

kjhgf ewe: Thanks for sharing this amazing video, you are so nice,I like your videos, I purchased the same product from newigstyle three days ago

Luna and Stella: Where would one find such a needle?

And I want to make 4 extensions out of it so that I can have a souvenir of the texture and color of my hair as I get older and gray and help me in my future braids and other hairstyles. My question is, do I need to prepare my hair in a specific way before I ventilate it? .. And how should I keep the extension after, should I treat them periodicly?
