TJ is training for triathlon but when swimming, her hair becomes tangled and she has hair damage. With training, a job, a life, and hair that takes 5 hours to air dry, how should she handle her hair?

Hair Tip #1 Use a Clarifying Shampoo and Deep Condition Hair

Always clarify your hair with a deep cleansing shampoo first and then always follow with a deep conditioning treatment right after to restore moisturized hair. The reason why a deep cleansing shampoo is necessary is because you need to remove all product and build up effectively from your hair so that your deep conditioner can penetrate your hair shaft. When using a deep conditioner, it must contain shaft penetrating ingredients or it will not moisturize your hair internally. The best deep conditioner that is also 100% natural is using coconut oil because it prevent s a loss of natural proteins in your hair and its molecular size is so small that it easily migrates into the shaft of your hair for internal moisturization.

Hair Tip #2 Seal Hair with Heavy Butters and Oils to Keep Hair Supple, Moisturized, and Healthy

After deep conditioning your hair, you have to seal with a non-shaft penetrating oil or butter to prevent a loss of moisture and to also prevent minerals from building up on your hair. Using butters like Shea Butter, Avocado Butter and Mango Butter are phenomenal when it comes to sealing moisture into your hair and blocking toxins and minerals from entering inside of your hair.

Hair Tip #3 Keep Hair in Braids when Swimming to Avoid Tangles and Knots

Once you have thoroughly prepped your hair by deep cleansing, deep conditioning and then sealing with a non-penetrable oil or butter, you need to protective style especially when it comes to swimming. Long hair and especially natural hair will tangle so badly if it is not would in braids or twists. Depending on your hair styling preferences, you can put mini braids, mini twists, cornrows or individual plaits into your hair with the assistance of extensions if you like.

Hello, everyone. This is Breanna Rutter, author of one of my most popular books, The Natural Hair Bible and founder of Howtoblackhair.com these videos. I love to answer the questions that you send me via email. So any of you have any questions you like for me to answer. Be sure to check out the description box below for additional information. This video is because of an email that I received from TJ TJ emailed me saying that she is getting ready for a triathlon, so she's been training like crazy, and the issue is that she doesn't know What to do with her hair or what kind of styles to wear, because she also has to swim so she's constantly getting tangled and knots when trying to care for hair and then like she said on top of that, she still has to work. She still has kids to take care of and she has to keep up with her home, so she just needs some help pretty much to make her hair of one less problem that she doesn't have to deal with. So I have some tips for you, and the first thing I'm going to say is that at least once a week you have to clarify your hair and you have to deep condition your hair and you have to seal in your moisture now, depending on your regimen. Depending on how often you like to wash her hair because you're constantly going to be swimming and your being very active in things like that, you want to minimize the amount of times you want to be handling your hair so that it doesn't become as equally demanding. For you to take care of your hair, so once a week clarify your hair with a sulfate shampoo, sulfate shampoo is only necessary under the conditions to rid your hair, any product build up mineral buildup. You know helping the chlorine of your hair and things like that. As well as also product build, if I havent said that, but clarifying shampoo will take off all the grit and grime and things from the surface of your hair, so that, following up right after that, you can get the most effects from your deep conditioning treatment. Now you should always use a deep conditioning treatment right after using a sulfate shampoo, but even if you chose not to use it because if it's too harsh for you for your hair and its just, not something that's helping you to maintain the moisture in your hair, Then just amp up your deep conditioning affects so that way your hair can stay moisturized after that seal with a heavy butter or oil of choice, because you got ta do this before I suggest my next tip the reason. Why is because, if you're using light oil or highly penetrable oils like olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil, the thing is, you may not be able to maintain moisturized hair for a long enough period of time, as well as block out any additional minerals and things Like that, especially if you're swimming in a chlorine poor so after you use something like Shea butter or almond butter or mango butter, things like that to put on your put that after your hair, while it's wet after you do your deep conditioning so first clarify shampoo And all this is going to be done all at once, and you only going to do this whole process. Once a week, youre first going to wash her hair the clarifying shampoo, then you follow that up with a deep conditioning treatment and then you're going to seal in that moisture in your hair, with a heavy butter of choice, now thats how youre going to maintain healthy And moisturized hair now, after that, you need to keep your hair in a style if you have free, hair and you're constantly going in the pool its going to get tangled its going to get knots its going to get ratted its going to be a mess. So if it is applicable for you, you can wear extensions things like box, braids, patra braids. I wouldnt suggest micro braids because the water can make the braids too heavy and pull on your delicate edges or your hairline and things like that, because the braids are so tiny. So I will suggest bigger braids like box braids, a patra braids and also even cornrow braids. Now, if you don't want to wear weave, you can still do cornrow, braids and individual braids with your own real hair as well. Just keep it wound up with a braid or twist, so that way is not free and constantly getting tangled and matted. Things like that, when you're swimming and being active such so all my tips have helped you and just make sure that once a week to do your regimen prepare your hair for the entire week. So you won't have any issues and good luck with triathlon thanks email. Once again - and I also want to thank you all for watching also before any of you go make sure to sign up for my email list, because only there, I update you with exclusive content as well as do giveaways. Naturally Dunn: I've been wearing mini twist ( not to mini) and I put them in a very cute and professional style that I got off of the green beauty channel and I've been working out and they are easy to wash if needed and I can touch up the edges so my hair still looks neat.

Miranda Coleman: Would you recommend kinky twist style for swimming ?

xiuxiu: Why does this video have such little views. I'm on the swim team and I've always kept my hair flat twisted for the length of the years. I've always neglected care for my hair and now my hair is dry and I'm planning on cutting it and starting over. (I've been natural almost three years; shoulder length hair). I don't really know what my point is but I think we should stop with the whole black girls don't swim or something. Not on is it a lesson that will be relevant for the entirety of your life, but it's also extremely relaxing.
