Hi and welcome to my next video today, I'm going to be showing you how you can protect your hair from chlorinated water in a pool or from the salt water in the ocean. I hope that my tips can help you, so let's get started. Chlorine and salt water are very famous for damaging the hair as a child. When I went swimming in the pool it always tangled my hair, and sometimes it was so bad that my mom would have to grab the scissors and cut off some of my hair. That'S still knotted together. My first tip starts the night before you know, you're going to be putting your hair in the water the night before I go swimming, I do a deep conditioning, hair treatment using a very, very highly conditioning mask. This will make your hair super conditions and soft and will help your hair to remain soft the next day as you're going swimming. This will also help to prevent tangles as well. Some of my favorite deep conditioning masks are the shea moisture jamaican black, castor oil, strengthen, grow, restore and treatment mask. I also like the shea moisture, smooth and Repair nourishing hair mask with some keratin the day that I know I'm going swimming. I add a little bit of a light coating of an oil onto my hair. If you don't have any oils, you can use your favorite hair, serum oil and water. They repel each other having a barrier a physical barrier between the water and your hair will help to prevent the chlorinated water or the drawing sea water from getting right into your hair and absorbing into your nerves. Don'T add too much! You only need a little bit of oil to lightly coat your hair, almost like you would use a hair serum. A really great oil to use would be something like coconut oil. Coconut oil is a wonderful choice since it penetrates the hair shaft, and this will help to protect your hair even more. Some really great choices. Besides coconut oil or olive oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, and you can even try almond oil, whatever oil that you like to use to haul your hair. That'S something that I would use then, after that I would add a very light. Coating of a deep conditioning mask to my hair or my favorite conditioner, something like a very, very thin layer of this. I would add to my hair: you only need a small amount or you can use your favorite conditioner or something like this. This is another conditioner that I really like something that's a very thick and creamy like this see how it's very thick like that. That'S something that I would recommend using. This is also going to act as a physical barrier between the sea, water or the chlorinated water. From getting right into your hair shaft, this again is to act as a physical barrier between the water and your hair. You only need a very, very small amount. It'S not meant at all to saturate your hair, just to very gently coat your hair to protect it from damage. If you don't want to put anything in your hair, when you're going into the pool, you can always use some protective hairstyles, something such as braids or buns are really good. I do prefer using a braids. Braids are the best. In my opinion, you can make a braid like the regular 3 strand braid, a Dutch braid, a French braid. All of these really cute hairstyles will help to prevent your hair from tangling, and it looks cute too. I like the regular 3 strand braid the best. It'S simple and it keeps my hair out of my face. It also prevents any tangling in my hair. I would use a very gentle hair tie on the ends of your hair, something like this. That'S stretchy and has a smooth material, and you just tie this off at the end of your braid and make sure that it's tight enough so that it stays on your braid. But it does not tug at your hair. Another option that you have is using a swimming cap now I know these are not very popular, but they are very good, they're, also extremely effective at keeping all of the water out of your hair completely. This is the only guaranteed way to make sure that the water does not touch your hair. They may be an unpopular pick, but if you don't want to put anything in your hair at all, this is another great option for you. It'S very good. If you really really don't want a single drop of water, getting into your hair, it'll completely prevent the water. From touching your, if you have very long hair like I do the best way, I think to wear your hair when you have a swimming cap, is using a Nautilus bun, also known as the lazy rat bun. I do have a video tutorial, showing exactly how I do the Nautilus bun in every single step, it's very simple and slow, so you can see exactly how to do the bun. I wouldn't recommend using any kind of hair sticks or hair Forks when using a swimming cap, since it could puncture a swimming cap. And you don't want that to happen now say you're already at the pool or you're already at the ocean, and you completely forgot to do any kind of precautions for your hair. The best thing you can do is first detangle your hair and then go into. Maybe one of the public showers that they have completely saturate your hair in that clean water. This will prevent the chlorinated water from getting into your hair. Your hair is almost like a sponge if you ever completely saturated a sponge in water. At a certain point, you can't add any more water, because it's already filled up with water and no more water can get into the sponge. Your hair is exactly the same way. It'S like a sponge, if you completely saturate your hair in the non-chlorinated water, just regular, shower water. This will prevent the chlorinated or sea water from seeping into your hair, causing damage it's almost like a barrier. The whole point of all these tips is to create a barrier from the water and your hair. So those are my tips. I would still recommend, even if you wet your hair, braiding your hair and using a hair tie to tie it off at the end. This will prevent tangling in your hair, which you really don't want, especially if you have long hair, because it will take very very long time to detangle your hair, and it will just be one big problem that I don't want you to have to deal with. No, this is a very important tip after swimming in the ocean or swimming in the pool. First thing that you're going to want to do is rinse out all of your hair and rinse out sea water, all that chlorinated water out of your hair as much as possible, since this will help to diminish any chlorinated, water or sea water in your hair. Since you're doing it right after swimming, your hair will have the least amount of damage doing this will help to rinse out any of the chlorine or saltwater. That'S left in your hair after swimming the sooner that you rinse it out the better. The condition of your hair will be. If you bought a shampoo with you, I would highly recommend using it. I would definitely recommend using a clarifying shampoo like this one, the jamaican black, castor oil, strengthen, grow and restore shampoo. I would recommend this one since its clarifying it says on the bottle. You can use any shampoo that you have as long as it says clarifying on it. The clarifying shampoo will be another step to get the chlorine or the salt water out of your hair. I would also recommend using your favorite conditioner or a deep conditioner afterwards, since this will help to keep your hair soft and prevent tangles as well. So these are all of my tips. I hope I could help you guys with keeping your hair safe in the water. This summer, so I hope you guys could enjoy this video. Thank you so much for watching. I hope I see you again next Sunday don't forget to Like and subscribe for more videos. I hope I see you again next Monday.

Peachy Hime: Cool I did the oil thing to, because I remember hearing that duck feathers have a oil on them wich keeps them from getting wet. I still remember that, so I tried it as well. Braiding I could try that! Great tips!

McKenzie Harrison: This is nice. No one has ever told me that i need to protect my hair from chlorine or salt water so thank you for making this video

Kristen Klein: I had no idea clorine or salt water damaged your hair. Thank you so much this was literally so helpful i cant even explain. I've loved your videos ever since i was searching for a hair growth video, and i've watched your videos ever since. They are extreemly helpful. Please post more of your amazing videos i will be sure to watch.

Isabella Ochoa: i’m a lifeguard so I HAVE to get in the pool pretty much everyday for 2 months straight and what’s been helping me is putting in leave-in-conditioner before i get in. Also, i’ve been using coconut oil to protect it also

zirconium: what i like to do, is put heaps of coconut oil in my hair, put it in a braid or ponytail. go swimming and everything and wash out with shampoo and conditioner

GingerByrn1: Thanks so much! Those were great tips. :) I'll feel a lot better about getting my hair wet at the pool now.

Ocean lover: Hi, thank you so much for your tips, they are super helpful! Just one concern, this method is great for going into pools but I know a lot of girls who do this when going into the ocean and that's so terrible for marine life. Do you have any other method for protecting hair when going to the beach and swimming in ocean water? Would you maybe be interested in putting out out a PSA post about how swimming with conditioner and oil coating the hair when going into the ocean is harmful for marine life? There are many reasons but the biggest one is because conditioner and oil we use is not normally found in the oceans and it can cause animals to choke and can also cause reactions with coral reefs and other types of marine life (I would be more then happy to discuss this further if you want).Thank you <3 love your videos seriously have learnt so much from them!

Eunice Gomes: Steph thanks for all those nice tips some of them I'm already doing you videos are always so so enlightening thanks again for sharing

Barbara Webb: i love all of your videos. my hair is to my butt whenever i stand (down my back) and when i sit its in my lap, im trying to keep my hair healthy. i needed this video because ive been outside alot this summer and ive been trying to keep it protected from the sun and from the sea water as well. thank you for all of the videos your super gorgeous. xoxo!

GueyshArt: Great tips!! I love swimming but been avoiding it because I had bad damage :(. I will try these!!

Kylie Bradford: thank you so much for providing links to all the oils you show. you're amazing and I love your videos

Lisa Susanna: Thank youuu for this video! Comes in handy for vacation

Roberta Klein: Hi Steph, Holy Smokes! Your hair is looking so long and beautiful! Thanks for these tips. I was wondering, if you were going to be doing a video, on those ihebs haul, you did, and how you will use them? Are you using the shampoo bars or are you using SheaMoisture shampoo, this summer? You are such an inspiration! <3

Tie Dye: I’m a swimmer and I can confidentially say swim caps don’t keep your hair dry, they keep it in place. Water still leaks through your hairline and on the sides of your head by your ears. U can slow the water from coming in the cap with two caps but that also comes with the price of your head feeling tightly squeezed

Sahar Salym: Very helpful tips. Thanks Steph

Alice Kingsley: I recently went to an outdoor pool today (July 20th 2016) and it worked out perfectly. What I did was I added a small amount of jojoba oil and the Jamaican black castor oil deep conditioning mask, braided my hair and wore a swim cap. Combing and getting ready for when I'm done goes by fast. Then at least it wouldn't be time consuming to wash and brush/comb my hair. I have watched your hair growth journey and recently I went on a hunt to find shampoos that are sulfate free.

Muziclyricz66: I'm a new subscriber , your videos are really informative and different than other hair videos, Great Job and keep goin' ;)

carlyforniakid: Omg that water tip! I never even thought about that!!! Thanks

Anni Mae: You're so pretty, Steph! Loved the video :) it was really helpful

Osheen Wesley: I have really long hair but after following your methods my hair has got much healthier... thank you Steph.... Love from India..

Just A Girl: I am 5 years late but I rlly needed this! I try braids and protective hairstyles but I always find my hair is terribly snarled because I do a lot more than just “get my hair wet”. I had no idea that hair oils could help!

GeoTube Music Lyrics: I am watching your videos since 2014 and don't regret it! and your hair looks awsome Ariel!! :D

Amelia Torres: I want to shave my head in summer break. So it can grow back healthy again. I know that will take years. Especially cuz every summer break. I go to my family in Ibiza. So I go swimming in the sea almost every day what kills my hair. So this video will be pretty help full growing it healthy:).

Hollie Mae: I love your channel. My hair is about 3 inches below my shoulder blades, can you give more information about that length of hair. Thanks!!!

Hazel Eyes5: I love your hair! I wish I could have healthy hair like that

Rhaira Vanessa: you are amazing, your videos helped my hair a lot. Thank you! i´m from Brazil

Mary Perezoso: I really enjoyed the video! thanks for all your tips! beautiful ❤❤❤

elisheva s: So comprehensive & well researched ! Thank you !! Also vibrating bathing suit !

Mamanicole I: Aww, I love these videos, so very sweet. Love your hair colour outdoors. really lovely.

bizarrasp: Excelent Video, thanks very much ! I have a very sensitive hair and I use swimcap in the pool... as you said, it's not a popular choise and I feel very awkward to wear a swimcap in the beach... Do you actually wear a swimcap in the beach? do you have any advice about it ? thanks again !

that girl: I recently began dying my hair with pure red henna, I went in the pool yesterday and it was dripping orange water. Is that normal? I also put my hair in braids. I’m not sure if it’s cause I struggle to wash out all the henna or if the chlorine was taking it out

PuddyTat: Great tips :) Do you use the Babo Botanicals sunscreen while swimming? I'm looking for a natural one that stays on well in water. Thanks!

Natalie Dowis: Please do a protective hairstyles video!!:))

Melanie: I LOVE swimming caps. Great video!

ellen klebold: Agh I love your hair color. I'm so jealous. Is it natural? If so do you know anyways to naturally, and safely color your hair without hair dye. I saw somthing about putting hibiscus tea in your hair but i'm not sure if that would work. I have natural dirty blonde hair, with some natural red tones which make my hair look strawberry blonde sometimes.

Breanns Life: My Hairs Been getting thicker and my Auntie Told me this Saturday when I saw my Grandmother in the Hospital :) was Like Yay one of my Hair Goals Come True all I told her i use horse shampoo and put some oils in my hair

Jayaraj: Very logical thank u so much : )

chinnupapa: It's fun watching you have fun with your hair. Lol

Kayla Mally: I bought a cute 1950s swim cap with flowers on it :) they do make swim caps that are super cute so you can be more fashionable while protecting your hair

Nathan Campbell: Always the perfect way to start my Sunday, especially before working all day.

Rajeev Pandey: Thanks it helps me a lot

Doreen Buc: which mask is your favorite, or do you have one? My hair is very dry and naturally curly.

Bren M: I'm a swimmer and usually swim 5 days a week sometimes twice a day. Should I use a clarifying shampoo after each time?

Bill M: Thanks for educating and inspiring! BTW Steph looks pretty awesome in a bikini...♥

MsFlame: Your hair looks incredible in sunlight

Sara Haghighi: I bought the Shea Moisture shampoo that you recommend in this video . But is it okay to use clarify shampoo as daily basis? I thought maybe we should use clarify shampoo once a week or once in two weeks !

Eleni Tyler: Please tell me where you can get these hair products please? I love your videos!!! You ARE AWESOME!!!

you emily: hi steph is it ok if my hair mask containes silicone? and do u use silicone i would like u to make a video talking about silicone in hair product

Lafar X: Water gets in all swimming caps

Susan G24: ohh, nice tips :3 but i have ony coconout oil and after this my hair doesn't smell really nice :( ..another question so this is the best rubber band for hair? i want to buy some and i dont know which is the best for not damaging hair :0

më hëngsh koqen e mutit: how much do these products cost and where can i find them?
