Keeping Hair Dry While Swimming | How To | Nurseaggz

thanks for watching!

Hello friends was nurse axe back with another video, and this one is not nursing related. It'S actually a hack for how to keep your hair dry. When you go swimmin all right, so I've been taking swimming lessons. I know I'm a grown-ass adult, but hey I got to do what I got to do right and for me the biggest dilemma was how I was gon na keep my hair dry because I'm natural, I have 4c hair, which this is another way of saying. I had very a course in textured and whenever it gets wet it just messed together, so I guess knew I would have to keep my hair dry by whatever means necessary. If I was gon na take these swim lessons there trial and error, I found something that works for me now. My edges get a little bit wet, but what matters to me is like the two ends of my hair and the crown of my head and majority of my hair, to say the least. So so what you'll need is to swim caps. I have one that's just like a regular one. It'S speed, O'Brien. I have another one that I got through Amazon and this one's a little bit different. It come out um girls below your ears. This is the one that I started off with, and I thought I was key because I guess it started off with just putting this on my head and nothing else that did not work for me. Okay, so this is my second swim cap and then a good. A shower cap, a hair tie, and then I have one of these headbands and it's not cloth material. It'S more of like I want that. Polyester maybe, but I didn't want to get kind, because I was trying to keep water from soaking into it as much as possible. So that's all you'll need so to start my hair is it's my little um a set rocky braids which helps a lot, because if my hair was all out, it would be really hard to put into these foam cats. So all I do is I take my hair tie and I guess tie my hair on top of my head as to keep the water from getting to it. The purposes of this video, my hair, is I've been washed and cleaned and I don't want to put on you know that chlorinator swim cap on my head, so I'm gon na protect my hair using one of my rats, but you do not need this when you Go swimming okay! So what you really do you start off with swim cap number, one the one without in the ear - and I guess stretch that over my head, okay and then put on your swim cap and you get your headband and you put that on. This. Is gon na help secure the swim cap to your head, okay layers to this people layers to this? Okay and lastly, you just put on your last one cut the one that covered your ears. Okay, like I said, I got that one from Amazon and I am ready to go swimming. That'S it. People try your best to cover up that that band, though, yes, you will feel like you have a base left, but all that matters is that your hair is dry. So this is all I do and my hair has been able to stay dry, especially this part. The perimeter does get a little bit wet, so all I do is I'll just rinse it off with water. When I get home my shower and maybe sometimes I put a little - you know shampoo or whatever, but the most part. That'S all I've had to do and I've been good to go. So, yes, you too can swim as an adult if you're, naturally stuff or if you have a lot of hair. Yes, you can swim as well. I hope this helped someone out there

DestinedLyne: Just got back from my first swimming lessons. I practiced/learned the breast and back stroke. At various times my head was fully submerged in the water (mainly because I panicked). It works!! I did as you suggested, swimming cap (typical size), then shower cap, then headband (I used a polyester material that you tie around), and then finally swim cap again (used Lahtak- large swimming cap). It actually wasn’t too tight and only my back edges got damp. Thank you!

Natalie Carcamo: I CANNOT wait to try this!! Just found out 30 mins ago that one swim cap really doesn’t do shit for me either lol so I’m 100% packing layers now! You’re a blessing!

Neesie Cieslak: I just learned to swim 2 years ago at age48! We are doing, our age doesn’t matter, right? It took all these years for me to get over my fear. Thank you for this, this is so encouraging!

Moments With Marge: Thank you! I can't wait to try this. This is a big part of why Black women don't want to swim! My daughter trains with her instructor every wknd and I usually just keep it crocheted because she has very long, thick, curly beautiful hair. She's natural and recently for her 10th bday I took her to the salon to get it silk pressed for the first time. She's been on break from swim since Christmas and is starting back this wknd and I'm freaking out over here hair. This video gave me hope. I hope it works because I told her I'd let her silk press it every other month....then I remembered swim and panicked like why did I tell her that. Now I'm on a mission to finally find a way to keep her hair dry when it's not in crochet. From the comments and seems like this might be the answer. I've been researching this since she started swimming almost 3 years ago. FINALLY, THANK YOU and I hope this works for us! P.s. kudos for learning to swim. I feel it's such an important skill and I think it's empowering for Black ppl to learn to swim...too many of us can't and I don't like the stigma. I want us every where they are and able to do every thing they can!

victoria alexxis: this is really neat and good for swim lessons, but to all my competitive swimmers, don’t do this i feel like if it’s worn over a 4 hour practice you’ll have a brain numbing headache

CooCooFor KittyCats: I do not have the same hair type as you but mine also gets matted and is a horrible gross mess after swimming because of how damaged it is. (I have Caucasian hair that is bleached platinum) and the chlorine has been killing me at the gym pool making me almost want to give up on it. Thank you thank you thank you.

Hanna L: I swim almost every day so I had to wash my hair everyday. I noticed that my hair has been getting really dry and it started breaking. I found out that it was because I was over washing it, i had to wash it every day because of the chlorine and I even considered giving up swimming because my hair was that bad. I have been searching for a solution for sooo long. Thank you so much, this is the first video I could find that helped me. Ur literally the best I just subbed btw

Aisling Peartree: Swimming is like therapy for me but super damaging on my hair. I usually swim in the ocean and ponds. Going to try this. Thank you so much!!!

Udo!: Yes Sister girl, I was panicking as my 8 year old was heading to the pool. After spending 5 hours last weekend removing braids, washing, deep conditioning and then mini twists I was defeated thinking of her swimming. I quickly checked YouTube and saw your video with seconds to spare. THANK YOU!!!!!

Mary Frawley: I am proud of you for learning to swim as an adult!! I coach swimming!!

Sam W: I love this. I'm also a grown ass woman who is hoping to take swim lessons, and to be honest, my hair getting beat up by the chlorine was a huge concerns, so thank you so much for the tips!

UptownGirl27: Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve been natural all my life and wanted to take swimming lessons with my toddler son and was very concerned about this. You have helped a lot of naturalistas with your video!

N. D. Risley: Brilliant! I have extensions which, as you know, don’t come cheap. This is a great solution to keeping it tight! Thank you for your transparency and congratulations on having the courage to start learning to swim.- especially as a grown-a** woman!

Nikki B: I just pressed my hair a few days ago but will be going to a water park in a few days. I planned on: 1) Pin curl my hair 2) Put on a fitted cap (doo-rag, stocking cap, etc...) 3) Put vaseline right below my hairline to create a moisture barrier 4) Put on a swim cap. After watching your video, adding a 2nd swim cap is a good idea. I'm just worried about my head sweating, which is why I would forego the plastic cap, albeit a good idea.

Edy Loves Life 🌸: Thank you!! I am training for my first triathlon and I am natural too. Keeping your hair dry is so important because I think bring a black woman I always try to do whatever athletic thing I want and not worry about my hair. It can be so hindering!

Erykahehill81: Thank you!! I'm going to try this on my daughter she has long thick curly hair, and shes about to start swim lessons. Lord knows I can't be doing a wash day in the middle of the week. I'm going to try this with a few twists underneath. Thanks again!!!

Intensely Jadwiga: Thank you! I have completely different hair type than you but it's on a curly spectrum so does require quite a lot of care. I train for swimming marathon but have been extremely frustrated with the impact chlorinated water has on my hair. Will definitely try swim cap layering next time in the pool!

Lorraine Gosnell: Thank you! I've been experimenting for weeks now and still have wet hair every time I swim, so I'm going to give this a go and hope that it works! X

Katelyn Eileen: I tried this without the clear cap inbetween the 2 silicone ones (still used they polyester headband) and it worked fine. Only the varry bottom edge of my hair in the back got damp where the headband couldn't stay put got damp, and even then it was only damp not wet. I have hair almost down to my bellybutton so even getting a cap to stay put is a challenge. This method helps the caps not move so much either. Thank you for making this video.

Sadityxo: This works!! Thankkk you.. I did not wanna mess my sew in up I’ve been taking swimming lessons and was underwater/deep swimming the whole 30 mins and only one small section in the front got wet. I will take my time tomorrow and putting on the caps! Thankkk you

Deenaturally23: Yes girl I start my swim lessons next week you got me feeling ready!

Karen D'Arbres: Thanks for this! it’s tough learning to swim as an adult, especially with course and natural hair!

Emily Munn: Omg THANK YOU for this! I started swimming after a running injury and have been STRUGGLING with extremely dry hair. Could I ask where you got the base layer before you put on the first swim cap and the final black swim cap? Going to purchase those and try this out.

April Mason: Thank you for the tips! I will add those items to my shoppinglist:) also thinking about swimming lessons for adults. I got my first diploma as a child but wasn't able to continue. But for now I'll go on my own^^

Cheril N. Clarke: I wish I watched this with more than 15 minutes before my next swimming lesson. lol. I'm ordering a 2nd cap now so I'll be good for the next one. Hopefully, this works for me too. Thanks.

Misha M: Thanks for this video. Do you find the swim caps pull your edges ? I currently just use one (your first layer) and I'm worried about my edges. Do the extra layers add more tension to your edge's?

Nadz Chetz: Thanks. Going to try this out. Bought cheap and expensive caps, but my hair stays wet! Don't have a showercap like that, but going to try the two swimming caps and headband!
