From Grown Out Long Hair To A Manageable Medium Length Hairstyle

Victor came to the Regal Gentleman Studio because he wanted to lose a lot of length from his long hairstyle that had just been grown out from a short hairstyle. He didn't want to go short though, and still wanted to keep a longer/medium length hairstyle.

All right guys welcome back to the reagan gentleman youtube channel, the reagan, gentlemen studio today, we've got victor in the chair. How are you mates, i'm good? Thank you, you're good, i'm good man good! Thank you! So what are we doing? So i'd like to keep my head long, but not as long as this okay, i was thinking maybe around like jawline level or mid-neck, okay right here, kind of and uh and yeah that's about it right, okay, um! So when you say around the jawline, do you mean the the fringe or do you mean the whole whole vehicle, because obviously that will change in the same time, because the whole haircut the whole haircut, maybe around like okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah and then okay yeah? It'S gon na say because if it was jawline, it would be, it would be very short yeah, especially the back. All right yeah, so probably around like shows are here, is that we wanted to go to yeah, okay, maybe always any particular style. You want to be cussing to no really no just like a longer well, it's gon na be this would be more like a medium length. You know you'd be quite, do you realize how short this will be going for the neck? Well, not really! No! No! Okay, because, if you don't want to say, do you want to take a lot off? Is this two? Is this way too long for you now? Yes, yeah, okay, okay, because if we cut it to the neck right, it's a mid-neck. Just don't forget! You'Ve got all this at the back as well, and if we look at where the middle of the neck is so, if you keep yourself up nice and straight for me so we'll be taking off, this is just from hit this part here, we're taking off that. So it's about half the length of what you've got now so it'll be about half of what you've got. Is that going to be too short, or is that going to go? I think that's fine, because i feel like it's way too long right now. Okay, it's bothering me for pretty much everything. I'Ve always got tied up even for sports. It'S just yeah, it's too long, okay, okay, so it'll become more of a medium length. Then, if that's, if that works for you, yeah cool man, all right well, what do is if you haven't, got any particular sort of styling plate. You want to have a little look through some ideas, or do you want it to be just to be so you can brush it back and it just falls as it is now yeah, but just a short evasion. Yeah yeah cool, all right yeah. That makes sense. Yeah cool man all right, then well, what i'll do is lengthwise here. I think the best thing to do is, i think, if we cut the, if we cut the back, so maybe it's a tiny bit longer than the next. Maybe it just sits about here, because, where your neck is the mid-neck is where your hairline is so that that could finish there, but i think i would recommend the back being just a tiny bit longer. Just so, it looks a bit more balanced all right, because otherwise, if, if it's all the same length all over because the neckline is so low at the bottom, that'll be really high. Looking and the rest will be quite long. Looking especially if you want to wear it, just as it is now, so i probably recommend the back coming to maybe just on the collar or just about here and then the rest of it being a tiny bit shorter. If that's all right, just, i think it'll balance it out a bit more sure yeah. It'S all right, yeah cool man, cool all right. Let'S get your ground up in there get you started, then miss right guys. So we are going to start by sectioning the back and sides off from the top, so i was i was debating whether to do it a different way, but i think because i wanted to fall so naturally from so easy for him. I think doing it at doing it the way, with the horseshoe section actually bit better than just doing, like a sort of one length cut um, just because i think we'll be able to allow victor to have a little bit of some. You know a little bit more movement and um a bit more shape in there than what than what it would be if it was just cut one length, and i think because the way we said about doing it, where it's sitting a bit shorter on the or Bits of the neck on the the sides and the top and then the back being a tiny bit longer a bit more and actually see the word masculine, and probably it's what i mean by that is that it fits the face shape a bit better of a Man, i just think it'd be better for him um on a day-to-day basis. So what we'll do is we'll get a horseshoe section put him starting from the sides here, i'm working all the way around. So just a standard, horseshoe section. Please don't shout at me. I never told them to cut it off. Okay, i get i get sheltered for cutting it all off, but the reality is vic. That was your decision. Mate we haven't, i haven't uh persuaded you any other way. Have i to cut it off? No? No! No. So i know you'll all be going. Oh man, what are you cutting off for man? Don'T be cutting it off, but he has to live with it every day you have to dry it every day. You know it's just coming from the rain. You know i mean even that's an issue, you know there we go charlotte. Is it growing two years and a half? So what was it before that? What was the hairstyle like before? That was just short like showing the sides a bit longer on top, but that was it. I had a buzz cut at some point as well. No way really was that was that was that jaw in the pandemic or from the pandemic uh. No, but i was before right and then i was like i'm gon na grow. It out uh a little bit right, quite short, again, not much cut short but shorter yeah, and then i just threw it out, and this is it pretty much, and this is what it become, and you did you say when you sat down that you'd had one Haircut or something beforehand, yeah about uh during christmas last christmas, it's been a few months: oh wow, okay, and what did you have done just to tidy up then? Basically yeah pretty much, because it was like a bit of a mess. It was okay, a lot of hair yeah. She had the back. It was just completely disorganized, yeah yeah, so i'm just getting the horseshoe in just making sure that's perfect again. We need the symmetry, because we're going, you know, obviously taking a fair amount of length off. So we need to make sure that's completely symmetrical before we start cutting, because if this horseshoe isn't symmetrical, then the whole shape will be symmetrical because one side will be higher than the other or lower than the other. Whichever way round, you want to look at it enough for me, that's perfect! Now i'm happy with that now right. So what i'll do is i'm gon na take sections roughly two fingers in width? That'S what we're gon na do today, because we're taking a you know fair amount of length off so we're looking at doing. We want this to finish about there. Okay, so bear in mind it's wet. It'S got a bit of a kink in it as well. We'Re going to cut it to about where the collar is there. Okay, that's the the length i'm going to cut it to pull it out, so we're best interested to put down see what we want to finish and pull it out. Okay, just about that much off! Okay, work our way down to the middle and what we do we'll cut that a little bit later on once it dries through a little bit more like that. Take a section from our previous section for the guide. Let me bring that out like so keep working. The house, so we find our guide, there's our guide ruin that else there we go take a section from the middle of our previous guide, pull out there. We go just repeating what we're doing all the way around to the back. Now we just keep doing the same thing all the way around here's, our guide, nice and straight enough tension. So you can feel the hair is being gripped between the fingers, but nothing that you feel like you're gon na pull too much that it will sort of shorten and shrink back down when it gets drier there we go making all the way into the bottom. You see it's getting very, very thick down the bottom. Now split that away a little bit there you go. There'S my guide, wow, oh so so so there we go now head down. For me, a second buddy come all this hair out and i'm gon na start back on the right hand. Side. Now we go so that is setting in my guide for the perimeter i'm going to graduate a little bit longer just towards the back tie tape. I'M going to separate it from here, i'm just going to cut the guide in for the bottom as well, just that i'm not influenced by that side. I just want to take a very small section and cut this in just a little bit longer than what that bit is there right there. So that's going to go up a slight just like a tiny bit and then i'll bring this across i'm going to match what we can do here as well. I'M going into this little over here i'll point into this little bit here as well, just to get a slight bit of graduation from here to here. Only ever so slightly. Nothing major bring this around now and go straight across like that. Just point cut around later. Just like that, i'm taking small sections so it's easier to follow the guide just because how thick the hair is, but also it's quite nice. Let'S do it for the right and saturn just follow the small small sections just so you can keep on top of the guide as well head down slightly for everybody. If you get all that neck area there we go. I'M doing this just to frame the face as it falls in i'm just separating the sides. I'M trying to point into that a little bit just on an angle to create a bit of graduation. Let'S move on to the region just give it a little bit of shape and texture with the razor start from the back and just slide in a little bit just a little bit just to give it a little bit of something so thick. We can get away with this. I always wanted to use a brand new razor blade as well. It does does really help when doing something like this put. A brand new blade in just gives off such a sharp finish pretty hard to replicate, so we're still keeping some weight in there, which is nice. As you can see the weight's still sitting there. It looks okay, we're going for a kind of shorter version of what victor came in with, which is what trying to do just by leaving the weight in there and then cutting the neckline and the sides a bit higher up, create that more longer. Lighted finish well. Is it looking like we've just done a one length cut, so we've got a lot of movement in there as well all this length here, i'm going to do to keep it in with that longer. Layered finish, that is what victor came in with i'm going to do. This is i'm going to work this from horizontal sections and match it up down to the sides best way to do it? Let'S start at the back, then a t-section match it into the back. First and then doing it that way, so essentially we come to disconnect at the front through to the sides a bit like when you cut a sort of 90s finish. It gives a very nice heavy um finish for your masculine finish as well. What we do match up, the back to the sections we've been cutting in our palm to palm section about two fingers wide as well. You do put that slightly for me, pull slightly down. There'S our guide under there pull point just on this angle. Here: okay, there's our guide: we cut nice and straight pull it straight out and that section gets a bit wider. Now we'll do pull this one straight out now, so we drop the other one to maintain some weight and some length i'll pull this straight out. Now. What this will do layer over the layer underneath to give some movement, pull this straight out? There'S our guide underneath there as well. So please help there. We go and that fall that natural part and it wants to fall in, and then i bring everything down from there clear section just off center. That way can't pull this over now do the same outside. There'S a guy underneath and i'm going to take these side pins in a bit now to finish it off nicely down and just cut the points right, i'm going to dry it off a little bit now and then i'm going to point cut into little bits, how's That i'm talking for you, though, is the length all right. Yes, perfect, yeah sure yeah, cool man, so new some of the balmain texturizing salt spray. I mean it's go to man, it's so good. It smells incredible as well, and this will create a really nice just natural wave to your hair. Okay, i don't even know if we're gon na have to point cut into this. We may not have to actually we'll show it tries and then we'll see. If i need to all depends, if i can see any anything that i don't want to be in there, but i don't know if i can just look at it at the moment it looks really cool. So there we go, i'm just going to blast it through finger dry like so i don't want to make it any more curly. I want to give it a little bit of a straighter finish to it. You know just the natural way of what you're going on now, so you see you can wear it both ways. Whichever way you prefer, i think it actually looks really cool. That way. Do you have the height in there as well, but it just depends on how you want to wear it. Therefore, it's just natural part, if you want, which is just there for that four again, how it depends, how low maintenance you wanted to be. That'S why it's quite nice doing it freehand like this, because you can really start to see when it's drying through exactly what you need to do. There'S a little longer bits coming through. It can always happen if it tends to be from like quite long to short. So they killed me how's. The lens, perfect yeah looks nice. That doesn't mean it looks really nice man. I like that, a lot of the way, even your hair, just looks so cool man like just so easy for you to replicate a bit of salt spray on a hairdryer, no, no diffuser, no, nothing just a regular nozzle yeah and you get that same length. So if you can see that's sitting in the air, in fact you know what you hold it for me, so you hold that mirror for me, i'm gon na spin you around and then what you can do if you look through that mirror to see yourself in The big mirror behind you, oh yeah, that's when you can see the shape and the length okay. So what you've got is the length it's just a tiny bit longer towards the bottom, a tiny bit shorter on the sides only a little bit, but just i just don't want to be too high up here and then cutting down forwards. You know what i mean, so what you've got now is you've got just like the kind of texture that you had before the nice wave sitting through it just very natural, very, very natural, and also you've got the tidy side bend. So if you want your hair behind your ears like that, you can do as well. So it's just like a medium version of what you had yeah, i would say um, even when it sits behind you, it's got a nice shape to it as well. That'S exactly what i'm imagining yeah awesome man, so samia, thank god, but yeah! That'S that's it! So if you don't talk about the ideas of that, you can always pull this little section above the ear over. So that way it stays covered yeah, but it just keeps out your eyes as well all right just doing one here, all right cool. So that's all we need to do. Thank you. Mate looks awesome thanks a lot cool man looks good, but you can still tie it up as well. You know you can still do all that with it as well. You just haven't got to worry about it being down to. I think it was like here. Middle east yeah, i mean yeah, it was about here, yeah man, yeah yeah. This was so much fun looks good man look, i mean i'm so envious right, you're, here honestly mate standing looking at my perfectly straight gray, hair i've seen the youthful wavy hair that you've got me. Oh man you're going to look back on this and think you know joe. If you ever cut the shorts, please don't well, don't ever because it's your butt you'll look back and think god i want the hair back again. You know if you ever decide to go short. I can just see it. Just imagine it. It looks awesome man. Is it yeah, like suppose, i'm very impressed thanks man yeah, because i i i kind of had a feeling. That'S what you were you yeah. I know because i think what you see when you go on it's like here or the jawline. I think what you mean is what you can see straight on, but it's all here, if you do that it would have been cut up to your neckline. That'S why? I thought if you just leave that a bit longer and then cut it in it's just through people. Not i mean look, i've done it in the past, where, when i first started off, somebody asked for it and i've done it and it wasn't what they wanted them. Then we work out what that was, so it just does just take trial and error. Half the time you know, so that's why we're doing the videos just to try to stop people from having that trial and error? If you know what i mean, so you

Vaibhav Sharma: It was so nice to see that you actually didn't want to cut it that much because you were loving the initial look, but seems like the client had other plans. As usual, a job well done.

JACKSONXBARBER: Been watching Dan from when I started hairdressing / barbering, even though at time I may forget certain steps, these videos reinforce what I should be doing and let’s me know I’m cutting hair the correct way.

Marvin Fanny: I am so envious of this guy and his hair. What a great job he did on Victor's hair. Spectacular job!

Kalvin Patel: question for Dan and Regal Gentleman: My hair is thinning and I usually just try to comb it over but it is all frizzy and weird usually. How can I ask my barber to section off the hair into a horse shoe shape and then cut it, etc? I feel like they wouldn't know to do what Dan does. Let me know, thanks!

Mike Brumbaugh: Always spectacular work, Dan!! The kid looks amazing!!

Reece Humphries: Amazing work Dan !!!!!! You’ve made me enjoy scissor work so much more.

miganoosh petrossian: Beautiful, well done

TheMillionthDollar: I have the same exact hair, but it's just a tad more curly in the back. I have to grow it longer if I want it to start weighing itself down lol.

Peter Nguyen: I thought his hair was awesome when it was long, like a lions mane He totally pulled off the Team Jacob wolfpack look It was good after the cut too, but defo long lengths suited him more.

Joel Rivard: Hi Dan, any particular reason you layered the hair before cutting your perimeter at the bottom? As opposed to cutting your perimeter then layering the hair according to your perimeter. Also, on the sides and back, vertically the shape is square, but horizontally is it round? Or do you create that corner around the mastoid? I have trouble deciding when I should keep it square and when I shouldn’t because sometimes the squareness can add too much bulk just behind the ear. But I find it annoying that I can’t tell when I should keep it square and when I shouldn’t because I feel like I’m just guessing sometimes.

Sajad Solati: I hope,you keep going for ever,thanks bro❤

CINEMA STUDIOS: His hair looked so cool when it was long.

IgA: incredibly skilled, wow
