Especially if you have monolids, the top lid tends to push that lash down so if you are in that boat, I GOTCHU! Leave me a comment letting me know what kind of eyelids you have!!!

Hey guys it's jen, and today i wanted to share with you a really in-depth, focused micro tutorial on just the lashes, how i get my little short downward, pointing asian lashes to be up and stay up all day. Stay super super curled and to just get as long as possible, which can be kind of challenging if you do have lashes that are really resistant to being curled and staying up. So i really hope this is helpful for you who are especially like monolidded, have hooded lids have just not curly lashes to begin with, or if you have short lashes like me, this is definitely your video. If you want to see these tips, keep watching hello. Welcome to the close-up of my face, we are up close, very tight to be close enough, so that you can really get a good idea of what we're doing right now i have my lash curler with me. This is my best buddy i've had this exact curler, probably for more than 10 years, it doesn't have any springs or anything. So there aren't really any pieces to break, but i do have to replace these little pads. Pretty often this is shiseido, even though i might recommend the shiseido curler if it doesn't work out for you, there are a lot of different curlers out there on the market. So, honestly, you just have to do some trial and error and find one that fits your eyes really well, but i do find just as a broad statement. A lot of the asian brands tend to work better. If you have flatter eyes like i do so a lot of um asians, they don't have as like concave of an eye socket. They need a flatter curve right here. So in my experience, shiseido is great. I'Ve also tried shumura that one's really great and even drugstore level ones that are japanese or korean i've actually come across ones that are pretty stellar that are really inexpensive as well. So i would recommend checking those out if you have a similar eye shape to mine. So that's the first and foremost most important thing even on days that i don't even wear mascara, sometimes i'll, just curl my lashes, because it really opens up the eyes. If i'm just looking straight forward, you don't really see any lashes because they kind of hang down in front of my eyeballs a little bit. So our goal is to try to get them pointed up, but not in a way that looks really awkward. If that makes sense, so what we are aiming for is having a little bit of a natural curl type of shape. The first thing i do i'm going to open this up and i almost kind of push this top bar right here against my top eyelid, but don't go too high up because you don't want it to accidentally pinch your eyelids skin at all, and i'm concentrating on This inner corner, so the inner corner right here on the actual curler you want it to meet the innermost corner of your eye, even if the rest of the curler isn't hitting all of your lashes perfectly we're going to just start with this inner corner. So i do this push it against that skin and you can see it kind of pulls up the lashes just a little bit when i do that, i'm going to pinch it so that it brings this bottom one up to meet that line. So i'm going as far close to the base of the lash line as i can and i'm just pumping this curler and then i'm just going to pull the lashes out a teensy bit like that grab it almost sort of in the middle and then we're going To do a few more pumps again and then we're going to go up to the tips grab it again and then pump a few more times. We'Re going to try that again, i'm going to the base squeezing a few times going to the middle, squeezing a few times and going to the tips and see how much more you can see that curl already another method you can try doing is instead of doing Three different sections as you go, you can actually just go to the base and with each little squeeze you pull it up a little bit more, but i feel like that, has more of a tendency to potentially pull out any lashes. So i prefer the three-step process, but you can do it either way so now that we've really enhanced that inner half of the eye we're going to do the same thing, but focusing on that outer corner. So now we're going to go in this point to meet up with this point right here to just get those teensy outer lashes right there, the squeeze at the bottom in the middle at the top. So here you can see the difference of the before and the after. I feel like it's a pretty dramatic difference, and this is without any mascara to begin with, so i'm going to go ahead and do that to the other side. Sometimes i also like to angle the lash curler, as i'm going up so that i have more of a dramatic and natural curl so at the base i go like this and then, as i go up, i kind of tilt my hand upward. Okay, now we're going to move on to mascara the most important thing you want to keep in mind, especially if you have really downward pointing lashes. Is you want to find a really dry formula, probably going to be a waterproof mascara and even better? If you can find one that is specifically holds a curl really really really well like a good japanese mascara like this one. This is from heroine, make long and curl mascara super waterproof. It'S a little more frustrating to remove syllabaries. If you use an oil cleanser, which i always do, but this is going to be the magic sauce to hold up those curls. So i'm going to take this little mascara guard because we have pushed our lashes up to the point where they are practically touching. Our eyelid skin, so if i were to just put the mascara on it's definitely going to get all over my eyelid, i'm going to be putting this guard right up against that inner corner and i'm just going to wiggle the mascara side to side. I also really want to make sure it gets to this bottom area so that it holds those lashes up. So just like what i did before the first part, i'm aiming the mascara at these inner corners with the guard sort of tilting this. So it's right under there and then i'm using the outer edge to get these little babies out here and usually after the first coat with the guard, i can just use a regular coat of mascara on top for a second layer just to get the lashes a Little more thick and voluminous and again i just do a really light side to side motion. My sister once made fun of me because i was shaking my head as i was putting on mascara, but you know what it doesn't matter. If you look silly or if your mouth hangs open, while you're putting on the mascara whatever gets, the job done, is the right way to do it. Sometimes that's the hardest thing about doing a video is like this scenario, with a camera in front of my face. Is not how i would be doing my makeup every day, but hopefully it's close enough that you guys can still get a good idea of how to do it at home all right! So now you can see a pretty dramatic difference with mascara without the mascara and then we are going to do the lower lashes. So the difference here is that i'm not going to start off by curling the lashes i'm going to go straight in with the actual mascara. So for the lower lashes. I usually like to tilt my head down so that the lashes are sticking out more because if i tilt my head back the lashes kind of hit my skin a little bit more. So for the top lashes i tilt my head back and apply it for the bottom lashes i tilt my head down and then i just try to do a little bit of a shaking back and forth motion like that. Next, i'm going to be using one of my favorite little tools. This is a heated lash curler. I don't use this every day, but when i really want to get very perfect lashes, i do pull this out and i use it as a secondary step. So i don't use it on the first pass to get the lashes up. This is after i have. My mascara on mine is from panasonic, i'm just gon na turn it on right here and then i just wait for the little coloring sensor in the back. To turn pink instead of purple, that's how you know it's heated up all the way. I probably should have done that at the beginning, so that it would be heated up enough. I will say if you naturally have super long slightly curled lashes. You can actually get away with just using the heated curler without manually curling, your lashes first. But if you have lashes like mine, where they naturally point straight down and they're very kind of stubborn at holding a curl, this isn't going to do it for you, like it, doesn't matter what kind of mascara you put on first or second or whatever. If you only try to use the heated lash curler, it's not going to do anything. However, it does make a nice little difference if you do this after the mascara. So while this is heating up, i'm going to go ahead and put mascara on my other eye and then we'll get to the heated part. Okay, my heated curler is now pink, so i'm going to be using this on my lower lashes, i like to start at the inner half - and i just tilt my head down so that my lashes are sticking out the most and then i just push this down. Like i said, if you're starting from ground zero, it's not going to get it all the way up, but once your lashes are pointed up, it can just help fine tune things a little bit. So i don't know if you can tell too much from looking at it straightforward, but this is after i used the heated lash curler on my lower lashes they're, just a little more lower and fanned out, and then this is without they look a little bit shorter Because they're sticking out instead of going down, you do want to be a little bit careful because these do get quite hot. So try not to have this actually touch your skin. We'Re just gon na push it against the hairs so that it just kind of presses it down a little bit. So this is the final look for my lashes. You can see they're, nice and lifted up, but they're very high they're, just about as high as i can make them without using false eyelashes. So this is what it looks like from the front and from the side lifted and gifted my eyes. Look so much bigger than they did before, and it's just a really fresh bright. Look that i really love. If you have lashes that are just sad and droopy like mine are, i hope you found some of these tips helpful. If you did, i would love if you would hit that thumbs up button subscribe. If you want to see more of my micro tutorials. Actually let me know down in the comments what you would want to see me do like a hyper focus on beauty wise. Let me know in the comments i love you guys and i will see you in the next video. I was thinking that way back

sherry vang: I’ve loved your mascara 101 video ever since you uploaded it! Always went back to it whenever I struggled with my own Asian lashes. So happy to see this new updated one! Thanks so much Jen! ❤️ I can’t wait to try out these products and tips!

kimberly: Love your vids Jen!! I’ve been watching your channel for years and you still look as fabulous as ever!

adevyish: Thank you so much for this video! My lids are monolid and hooded as well and I've p much just given up on doing my eyelashes, but this makes me want to experiment again!

Gina Pino: This is a great video with very detailed tips! Thank you, Jen!

Su-Li D: Just tried this technique today and it totally worked awesome. I think focusing on each "corner " of the eye was a really good tip. I use that mascara too!

Kimberly Jimenez: Jen, thanks for another great video. I’ve been watching your channel for years and every WP mascara I’ve tried from your recommendations has been awesome for my short Asian lashes.

Jasmine S: Interesting tips! I'm going to try them. I previously tried a heated lash curler, as well as heating my regular lash curler with a blow dryer and with both methods found that the heat damages the lashes and causes breakage if you use it frequently. My lashes aren't super long but they aren't short. I actually gave up curling my lashes at all and noticed that my lashes grew much longer... Probably because you aren't messing with them as much. Also I found that using waterproof mascara formulas also dry out my lashes.

dawnnpark: I have had so many problems where my lashes won't stay curled so this was super helpful for my Asian downward facing lashes

Regal Lineage: You were one of my first make up videos I saw on YouTube. I have been following you ever since. You are amazing! Your tutorials are simple to follow and you always take your time getting to the point. I love how you teach! Thank you for doing such great work.

coconutpanda: This is my eyelash routine too! One thing I would add is that, depending on the humidity of your climate, your lashes may be too 'damp' to hold a curl. In order for a lash curler to work well, your lashes must be as dry as possible, void of moisture or oils from creams, etc. I suggest giving them a little dusting of setting powder or neutral powder eyeshadow before curling - your mascara will hide any powdery residue. You can also use your heated eyelash curler to 'dry' your lashes before curling. Also that little bit of extra heat helps to hold the curl when I go in with my squeeze-y curler. I agree with Jen - the heated lash curler alone is not quite enough.

bingin15: These were fantastic tips! I tried out the curling technique and worked so well for my short lashes!!

KittyLover: Subscribed to you ten years ago and started my make up journey! Lashes is the ONE thing I still struggle today. I have the same lashes as yours and I can’t tell you how helpful this video is! THANK YOU!!

GOCHLOE: Finally learnt how to curl my lashes thanks to you !

Kim 💛 Unearthed: Thank you sooo much for this!! I have insanely long eyelashes but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get them to curl! They're so straight I can't stand it! I didn't know how to use am eyelash curler properly until you just showed me so I gave up using mine lol. I'm going to give it another shot now! And I just ordered a mascara guard as well! Can't wait to put it all to the test!

Kim Ngân Nguyễn: I have this combo of curler and mascara. They are amazing on strainght lashes. Been using shisheido curler for years, nothing can replace this product

Chee Thor: I purchased my Shiseido curler long ago because of you, one of the best purchases ☺️

carneaglariel: Thanks so much Jen! These are fantastic!

Grape Skunk: I’ve had my cheap gold daiso curler for a decade and only had to change the squishy pad once! And believe me it’s is verrrry well loved and works great.

LD Lee: Thanks for the tips! I love your brow shape—-how do you get them so perfect? What products do you use for the brow color?

Julia St.George: This is so helpful! Thank you for this. I have hooded eyes and have more long and defined lashes than the average asian eyes, but I have a hard time getting my lashes to hold their curl. Can you do a in depth video on how to put on eye liner?

muchomalasada: Thanks for sharing your tips! Eyelash perms work wonders. Downside is the cost and only last a couple months.

Finni Chang: my short stubborn straight downward pointing lashes are the reason I’m too lazy to do mascara you manage to work it SO well!! thank you for the tips!

Carmen Tam: Thanks for sharing, it is such a useful tutorial

ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっKatelyn: Thanks for making this video! Going to try this and see how it goes.

Mo Lo: Wonderful that you addressed this issue! Bravo! It took me year’s and your manual recommendation is spot on. Another phenomenon product is the Hot Lash eyelash curler. The plug in is better then the battery. Great job!

LuluTube: Also in the short lash club! One thing that really really helps is to blow hot air onto the lash curler! It's a little hot at first, but it makes my lashes stay up for so long!! Would definitely recommend :)

Evelina: Thank you for this! My lashes are pretty long but downward pointing too:’( Latisse also helps!

SueLyn Cheang: A lash serum changed my life! Made my natural lashes grow so much!

JoAnn Parker: Thank you thank you! I’m not Asian, but my eyelashes are pretty much nonexistent. They are super light, short, and point downward. I do all this great makeup on the rest of my face, but no matter how much mascara I lather on, it doesn’t look like I’ve done anything! Plus, since my lashes grow downward, the massive amount of mascara I put on irritates my eyes and I end up with bloodshot eyes. I’m older than you. A lot of the problem stems from eyelash curlers ripping out my lashes. So I’ve stopped using them. I couldn’t even get the curler to grab all my lashes. I’m glad to know there a different shapes. Thank you for showing how to use your eyelash curler so it grabs all the lashes!!!!!!

Van Thai: I’ve watched a similar video from you 10 years ago. Thank you for sharing again!! God bless you for sharing how to combat short stubby lashes.

5-Minute Indonesian : I actually know how to put on my mascara & curl it, yet I watched it because I love your video content, your tone and pronunciation.. It’s soothing

hnublove: I have that same mascara introduced to me two years ago from my sister and love it too!

Ms. Tammy's Art Studio: How about a video for super easy, everyday daytime smoky eyes? Thanks!!

perlynnn: thanks for the tips! i have asian short lashes and never knew i can lift up to curl my lashes! tried shiseido n the normal shu uemura but it just cant catch my lashes! recently discovered the shu uemura S curler and it worked! need to be extremely patient though

Sherry W.: Super great for asian eyes. thank you!

jeeezy: Have you ever considered lash lift? Helps skip the curling part. I go straight to mascara and it’s been a game changer! Saves me so much time

Lizzy Bradley: Hi Jen! Longtime follower here - so I’m in my late twenties and starting to wrinkle haha. I would love to see a tutorial on minimizing forehead lines when doing makeup. Mine aren’t so bad until I do makeup and it exacerbates my forehead lines! I guess because it creases or dries out my skin.

Cactus Creates: I’m Asian and also adopted...I was just given my mom’s curler which I’ve noticed is quite big and round and was always hard to use for me...I will def try an Asian brand

Usagi Moon.X.O: Thanks for sharing this ❤ i have short stubby lashes too

wisdom: okay, just have to say you and your eyes look really exotic and gorgeous before you do anything to them! (and I totally get it that you want a different look sometimes). Just wanted to say I was struck by how lovely you looked before you even did anything to them ;-)

Ashley Chung: I use the “eyelash blow dryer” from Korean brand. Apparently it’s better for your lashes since it lets warm air to blow dry your eyelashes instead of using direct heat. Big fan of your videos!! I struggled with my monolids too

R Y: A trick i use is to hold a business card on my eyelid when applying mascara. This protects from trying mascara on my eyelid and you don’t need to buy a special guard for it.

Veediddy: Omg I really needed this tutorial! Gave up lash extensions and have been trying to figure out how to live without them again with my stubborn and straight lashes...

deedee6820: Hi I've also got short straight eyelashes so will give it a go!! please can you do more videos on fashion as well as beauty, hair too. miss those ! thanks x

sofia ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ: my mom is half asian, and literally the only asian feature i got was my straight downwards lashes but, my mom decides to not pass down the no sweat and no body odor gene, mk hopefully your tutorial helps!!!

Saje610: Love to see different eyeliner looks

Izlu C: Would you recommend the shu uemura or shiseido lash curler? And how often do you need to replace the curler pads <3

Mai Tran: This was a great video <3

kar: Hi! I love your look here! What lip products did you use? Thank you!

Yejin: Its quite amazing that this tutorial came up coz i was searching for heating eyelash curler just yday and wasnt sure if it was worth it or not

Ms. Tammy's Art Studio: Thanks for your informative videos! Can you do a nude lipsticks for yellow undertones? There are no videos out there on this! Thank you!

Lafalot54: I was using a cheap eyelash curler from the drugstore last week, and literally it went off the pad and chopped off half my lashes on one eye which really hurt since like ripped it out of my eyelid or something. Now I’m terrified of the clamp style lash curlers and I bought a heated one to use by itself. I have short Asian lashes so you can’t see half of it’s missing anyway, but I’ll probably wear falsies now since it looks so sad and bare

swtxaries: if you use your hairdryer on your eyelash curler and use it when it's warm, it's like curling your hair and it works much better and stays longer!

Carol Zeng: Could you maybe do a video on eyebrows? Whenever I try to do mine, the pencil looks chalky and weird :(( much love!

Chopsticks for legs: I haven't seen you in about 10years and you haven't aged a day!!!

Katherine Yee: Do you replace the rubber pads from the same brand or just the generic ones?

nebula shine: nice ❣ you've been so family focused, been missing your makeup videos ❣ tyyyyy

Jung Lee: You have beautiful eyes, but are just straight up beautiful in general.

Shantel Perez: After this I’m so confused as to what I was thinking before This makes so much more sense lol

Vicky Chen: Jen looks young foreverrr

Winnie CoffeeToGo: She is glowing!

jeanchristie: Can you do an eye lash curler review that is best for flat asian eyes. I heard innisfree is good too

Jassie Yong: You are such a genuine

teyenb: My eyelash problem is no matter what waterproof mascara I get, it starts smearing under my eye i have really folded monolids so you hardly see it after you curl it and the smearing issue... Not sure if anyone else has a solution other than false lashes lol... I pretty much stopped wearing mascara years ago

Lexi Jones: Great tip pushing down.

xoxoL0V3xoxo: Lifted and gifted

Karen Grace: I'M LOVING THE SEDUCTIVE VIBE WE ARE GETTING FROM THIS LOOK. IS IT THE EYEBROWS?? IS IT THE EYES?? TELL ME FRIENDS

Chris : Hi Thank you,so much for the tips , Where can I get the Heroine Make long and Curl Mascara and the heat eyelash curler in hk? Can I find them in SASA? thanks

Masshole4Life: The ONLY way I can curl my lashes is to do it with mascara on.

Nugget: Omg what are you wearing on your lips? sooo pretty

Mimi: Oh my gosh I was searching for your channel yesterday but, couldn’t remember the name and today you have showed up in my recommendations!!!

Marika Labbé: asian lashes. I hate mine so much hahaha ! Thanks for that video !

Tasnim El: Whats the number of the curler?

leeena: Do you find that asian mascaras hold a curl better than american drugstore mascaras? I feel like with mascaras like L’oreal or Maybelline (waterproof), I have to wait for a new tube to be semi dried out for it to hold my curl.

Yane YanYan: My eyelashes are naturally curled but they're short

jb.random: How to Remove it?

Allison🙀😇: What’s the mascara called??

Shinebright: Your lipstick name please ? ❤❣️

R V: Shu Umera curler is amazing

Cherylene Choy Can craft: You're lucky you still have lower lashes. Lol I gave up on mine a long time ago.

Christina Ngo: What did you use for your brows here?

LopsidedCircle: any asians can recommend cheap eyelash curlers for asian eye? the elf one is good, wondering about daiso or other asian brands?

Rachel Park: Uh any clue as to why it hurts my eyes go pump my Shiseido eyelash curler?? What am I doing wrong?? Why does it hurt??

Tanya Vien: Use a spoon!!!

carlo cv: Alguien mas vino por la pelicula de netflix?
