How To Style Medium Length Hair | My Edgy Hairstyle

Today we're talking about how to style medium length hair. I'm showing you my edgy hairstyle!

My hair is like me… for the most part it’s fun and laid back.

But if you make it do something it doesn’t want to do (or even suggest it really) it will make your life a living hell.

I should give it a name.

I’m actually kind of disappointed that it’s as I’m writing this email that I’m realizing my hair doesn’t have a name.

For the love.. I named a zit Sharon this week.

My hair has been with me thru a hell of a lot more than Sharon, that’s for damn sure.

Anywho, I’ve only tried to force my hair to do something against its will twice, the most recent being just a couple months ago when I thought it would be a great idea to cut some fringy pieces around my face.

-- Cut to a full scale hair revolte… not a hair on this head would hold a curl!

Since that dark day my hair has calmed down and we’re on speaking terms again.

Sometimes all you need is a good knock-down-drag-out to clear the air and get communication dialed it.

So it seems like the perfect time to show you how I style it.. INCLUDING the flip!

Hi guys welcome back to my channel today, I'm gon na be talking about how to style medium length, hair, and this is my edgy hair style. So people ask me all the time how I style my hair. I curl my hair. I get so much texture and I'm gon na walk you through it. This is what we're dealing with today. I watched my her four days ago and I let it air-dry, and this is new territory for me. I usually blow-dry my hair and then style it, but my hair has been very unag. Riya belies the whole blow-drying thing. It'S like yo we're tapping out tap out. Now you tap out. I think I think that's what you need. It'S tapping out. It'S like I'm over styled. You need to stop it, so I stopped it. So what I'm doing is I washed my hair. You know like every 6 to 8 days or whatever. Then I let it air dry, totally or dry, don't put any product in it whatsoever, and so you'll see it's greasy. When I take it down, I new style it today um because I'm doing a presentation on confidence, yes and it's going to be a grand time. So anyway, it's crazy right now, but when I'm air drying it, I just kind of scrunch it while it air dries pulsed it air dries. So I scrunch it to give it like a little bit more volume. I don't brush it when I get on the shower. So I brush it before I get in the shower and then I wash my hair get out and like scrunch it while it's super wet and I don't brush it at all, so this has not Annan brushed in days and days and days. I only brush it right before I get in and then also these little pieces cuz a while back. I got like sort of like fringy bangs and they they could be real hookers. So I have to kind of like coerce them into what I wanted to do, and so I twist them while they're drying and that's just a good rule of thumb like no matter what I was doing, you know I would if I was air drying it. I kind of just twist it so imagine my hair is a web if you will and then I scrunch after a twist and that just like you know like do my bidding hair, you know what I mean. I just kind of beat it into submission, sometimes anyways, and that helps it to like hold its shape perfectly. So obviously, my hair is a little bit of a mess at the moment atm. So what I'm gon na do is I'm gon na find my part, I'm gon na part it in the middle, and I mean we'll see what happens - I'm not locked into a particular hairstyle. If my hair just doesn't want to do it that day, fine by me we'll figure something else out, it's cool, so you know I usually start out with an idea, but if it, if the plan goes to pot as people say, that's cool with me. So I just get my part as good as I can kind of like check out what's happening, and then I'm gon na put some dry shampoo in the fragment, because it's definitely a little bit greasy in the front. So this is the dry shampoo that I'm using same stuff. I always use so I'm gon na go back here and then I'm gon na go right here, the front of my hair and I typically will sleep on my hair after I wash it I'll wash it. Let it air dry scrunch it you know and then I'll sleep on it and then I will style it the next day we're dealing with like at least four days right now. Okay, so once I've got the dry shampoo, where I want it and like soaking up the oil, then I can start styling it. The reason why I wash my hands is because I don't like to get dry shampoo on my ends because I feel like it makes your ends dry and crispy, and nobody likes that. So if your ends get a little bit crispy, then you can just use a little bit of fit. Rocker chick skin hydrating Beauty, oil on your ends and use like the most miniscule amount and make sure that it just gets your ends yeah and then they won't be crispy anyways moving on. So when I'm styling I like to take it in a couple different sections. So I'm gon na start with this, just like right behind my ears and pull that up and I'd like to do this, because if the underneath of my hair isn't laying right it's gon na annoy me all day, I have to styling tools. I have a curling iron, the plague or, I don't know, half inch inch. I think, and then mr. iron, for my ends. What I'm gon na do is I'm just gon na grab like little sections. The under part doesn't matter quite as much as the top section, but I am gon na alternate and I let the ends stay out and I'll show you how I'm curling this better when I get to the top, but I actually do need to style my hair. So you're just gon na be in it for the long haul with me guys, so I'm just having the end stick out like that and I'm not getting too close to the root and then I'm pulling out and I'm just letting it sit there for a sec. She'S gon na want to hang out for a second and the reason why I'm doing that is because you could always brush out a curl, but when you keep curling your hair over and over, it's just gon na damage it and you run the risk. I got ta check it out, see how I'm doing back here just a little section here, you were in the risk of it, just not holding the style all together, so I just like to let it sit there and let it cool, let it do its thing And then I'll brush it out when I actually won't brush it out I'll show you what I do whenever I'm done with all of my head. So now I'm kind of gon na go like right at the temples and I'm gon na pull that up these little pieces. Oops, it's gon na mean real hooker. Okay. Now I always start with these first pieces right here. I curl them away from the face. So just start like right around here and then curl away from the face, and sometimes I pump the little doohickey and then you just kind of pull it out. So it'll look like that right. If it's too tight, you can pull it and I'll. Show you what I mean when I get it to like some of the top pieces. They will get a little bit tighter a little bit tighter than I want them. Yes, that's what I'm looking for and so I'll pull them out, so they have a little bit. Looser of a curl, so it looks natural because I'm not curling my hair to look curly, I'm curling in time. Texture! So I'll show you when we get there, but then this one will go in the opposite direction. So they'll go towards the front of my face. So away from your face, then the front of your face and then you just kind of pull it out and then I'll do this all the way around my head and you can always go back and curl. You know something more if you want to like. If you miss pieces, it's so not a big deal. That'S one of the things I love the most about having a messy hairstyle is that you know when things don't look perfect great, because it wasn't supposed to so story. Checks out, leaning end out, though, is really important for getting that messy. Look. Now, I'm going to go to this side and then I'll finish the back later so away from the face, and then I kind of pump that handle pump it. Oh good, it's fine! It'S fine and towards the face - and I don't like to get so - that's gon na curl it again. I don't like to get too close to the root of the hair, because I feel like that just gives you like volume in a weird place. My hair is naturally course so just that way, I it's pretty decent, I'm real happy with my hair, it's pretty cooperative, although it's like me, it's a little temperamental. It'S like mmm! Never over that! Now that blow-drying thing you're doing so you're gon na figure something else out, and so that had to figure out what it needs. So the back is looking fairly curly right now, but I want when I'm done, it'll just look like texture all right, cool, we're doing a guy's styling the hair check. This part, my part, is very persnickety. It just wants to be. It doesn't want to be straight at all, so I have to really manhandle it and which is why a lot of the times, my hair slipped, all the way to one side or the other side, and not only does it look cool, but it just you know, Helps because my hair is not always super collaborative all right, so I'm gon na pull this section out these bangs here these little right here. Oh my gosh, Claire styles - are here like this. Sometimes guys she's like yes guys. What'S up, I'm ready, let's go and I'm like. You are rocket sister, you rock that all right so again, curling away from the face and that's pretty decent. What I found is that like product was weighing my hair down in a very real way, and so that's why I don't put anything in my hair anymore, except dry shampoo, and I only put it like where I need it. It'Ll come out of it. It'S not the first time I look gon na doggie Doo, hey guys, hey Sharon how's it going. I hope you like it, this blog it'll, calm down and I'll be able to like put product in it again. It'S like not gon na be a big deal. This is definitely too big of a section. Oh well, it's fine, I'm just learning, but right now, I'm just trying to go with it and give it what it needs which what it needs is rest from product and from a ton of heat styling, which is why I just let it like air dry. All right cool, none of those are done what those cool I'm not going to figure out what I'm going to do with these here. I'Ve got two little sections here and what I want this to do is go away from my face, so I kind of pull it down with the curling iron here and that's a little tight, so I'll just pull out the heat and kind of hold it like At one they're, significantly more cooperative probably grab this little piece too. That'S behind it. I don't want it to be a tight, curl I'll, probably pull that out a little bit and you just curl it, and then you can just pull out the heat and it's not going to totally undo the curl. It'S just gon na make it a little softer. Well, like I said with this stuff, I don't really care if it's soft, because I'm gon na mess it up anyway same stitch over here. My name is slightly more dry schampoo onto this side. This side tends to be a little bit. My hair, like I said it's course, but also it likes to grow forward so this last time when I cut more layers in my hair and like kind of like shorter pieces, I kind of want it to be like this, and it's like so I kind of Pull it down just like that, so I it lays a little bit more like this, and then I can twist this piece. I just kind of pull it down and twist that I'm gon na kind of set like that. Now, with this, I want it to definitely kind of go down, so I'm gon na grab this piece that I just curled - and this might mean by like figuring out kind of what what works for your hair. You know kind of figuring out like how you need to move the curling iron to work with your hair, because you can watch YouTube tutorials all day long. But if your hair is like not down with that life, it's just not going to do it. So you kind of have to figure out how to you know, do your own thing, so those are laying pretty decent. I might have to play with this a little bit more throughout the next couple of minutes, as I'm styling it to kind of get it to do. What I wanted to do on this side, but also it could be as simple as this. So I always have this cuz I want to go through before I like mess up all the curls. I want to make sure all the little ends are perfectly straight, so I can probably go up here and just kind of like do that. With this end, and as simple as that, sometimes just coercing that end is in the direction that you want him to go, and I careful not to like grab too much like literally just the ends and grab them really quickly and just kind of straighten them out. Cuz, I want them to go straight, it's Anna pearl under or they flip out too much okay. So now that that is done, I'm gon na grab a little bit of this. This is Jonathan dirt, texturizing paste and I'm gon na grab. So little just a little bit, I love the way this smells so much and I'm just gon na kind of get it. I don't want to put a bunch of product in my hair because, like I said my hair is in the season, though this is weighing me down, and I don't want that, so I'm just gon na get it kind of all over the palms of my hands And I think your dips on the start right here - kind of work it in here and we're good we're, get working work it through this first portion around my face and then what I'm going to do is I'm just going to kind of take my fingers and Just kind of shake out the curl that I just did, I'm just kind of you know messing it up so that it doesn't look like any curl. It just looks like you know, texture, and you can go back and you can straight now anything that looks too curly or something that's you know not to your liking or any place that you really miss something that it's like not going in the direction that you Wanted it to go in but, like you know, like these, I kind of want a little bit of PCEHR curls. That'S too big of a section to me, so I might go over like right here. I grab a really small pieces and kind of pull them out. A little bit so, can you see that so it's a little bit not as smooth a lot of people, also ask me how I get the flip in my hair. The volume might not cooperate today and that's the whole thing guys it's like. Sometimes I cooperate. Sometimes it doesn't and that's fine whenever I am well first of all, here's the texture go for it. You can always pin these back like if these aren't sitting the way that you wanted to do. You can always pin them and then let them go when you're about to walk into wherever you're gon na work into and they'll be fine, no look perfect, the flip. So whenever I am air drying my hair, I will usually pull it over in the direct in opposite direction that I wanted to go so like, for example, let's say ultimately the next day. I wanted to flip this way. Then, when it's drying I'll flip, it the opposite way. But the trick to that is to get back to take your fingers all the way back to like the crown of your head and that the flip has to be pretty big for it to stay and have that kind of volume. And you can like pull this side back if you want to and have it be kind of like that, that's really really cute, and I always you know I go back and forth and I'm like which side looks better when I flip it today, like I said, The secret is to taking the flip all the way back to your crown, and if I were to leave it like this today, which I mean what's cool and super cool, I would probably come back in here and curl these so that they lay and that they Stand out a little bit more, so all I would do is, I would come in here with this curling iron and I'd grab like this piece, and I curl it so that it kind of lays more down in this way, and I actually might do that depending On you know, I mean why not flip my hair today and kind of do that when I could show off Sharon Sharon's on this side. She came to visit. Let'S show her off yeah, so I just take okay. I just take the part all the way back here and that's what gives you that volume, but anytime, I'm going to flip my hair to one side of the other. I always style it in the middle first and then I kind of go back and forth and I decide which way I like it better today. I like it better this way, but, like I said if I was going to keep it like this, I wouldn't - and I will probably I will go in and I'll curl this so that this section lays a little bit nicer with the rest of this. That'S it really really simple and you could see that my hair was flat and greasy when we started a couple things. No extra product definitely waste my hair down. So if your hair is a holding curl and it's not doesn't have a lot of Hawaii, you might consider air drying and been styling it because my hair comes to life a little bit more and then also if your air dryer. If your blow drying and that's totally cool for your hair, like if your hair is like yeah, I love the blow-dried life, then blow-dry your hair in the opposite direction that you want it to flip. So if you want it to flip this way, then blow-dry it all that way and then flip it and go all the way back to grant okay, you guys, I hope you like this edgy hairstyle and medium length, hair style. If you have questions comments, leave them below, don't forget subscribe, and I will see you guys next time people are like ooh. Can I see your messy bedroom? No, but you know what you can't see you Sharon, you see Sharon. If you can't see Sharon. I look like an. I have actuals it right here, cuz aunt, Flo's in town and then I'm just too good with my concealer and you can't see Sharon. Let'S see what is this call today we're gon na be talking hold on baby? Oh, my god. I have the funniest things to tell you Leslie. I think I'm using that wrong. So I always drink grape. Azizi and I've been living a somewhat sheltered life. Apparently my sister loves the cola, flavored zzs and so does bendy, and so I tried Cola flavored Zizi. It'S good olan, flavored zuzibe, with the ranch flavored siete chips takes me right back to my childhood. All I need is an episode of The Golden Girls and a bologna sandwich, and I am good to go so good. So thanks for the tip at the neck thing, so yesterday I did a workout it's from a new workout program morning, meltdown 100, so I was trying to work out of it and it was freaking hard so hard. So i unlock later with Levi's. I was like dude hold on money anyway, so I was on a walk with Levi later and I was telling him. I was like oh, my gosh, that workout was so hard, but then at one point she's like dig in and and you can go harder - you can do this - you can do this and I was like you know. No again, I can't do it and then I was like wait a tick. What, if I can do more and go harder than I had before, like what, if I'm capable of more than I've done before whoo, and then I just went harder and harder and harder just to see if I could - and he goes, why do you can finally Become a Navy SEAL. I was laughing about that for days and I go no babe because I'm like what, if I'm I'm, you know, I just want to see what a mentally capable of it wasn't like I'm physically incapable of pushing myself it's just like mentally. I can't do it, I can't do it wait you think, in what, if I can, he goes Aaron like when in life are you gon na be like faced with like a really tough mental situation and be like you know what I can do this, because that One time I did a really hard work that I was like hey some people you can. Some people are like. I was this really hard situation and then I remembered that I run marathons. It was yeah Erin, that's marathons, that's not! Some Morning, Glory 100, Oh Levi, and then he says to me: is it because Aaron like whenever it gets really hard like that you're like I don't think I can do it just take a break, stop and hang out with the dog for a second, oh wait! This is a different than you would be, I'm like wow and lastly, the tuna hotdish that I text you about Betty. Oh my gosh, I don't know exactly what I is indifferent this time. I think I can pinpoint it it was so freaking good. I don't know if you're up for like the prep that goes into it, because it's like from scratch, you know it's, not tuna hotdish, look like a can of chicken mushrooms. If you know I can make it, you don't make this a feeling. You know fresh mushrooms and things and fresh vegetables, and it I'm Midwestern, give me a cola seasons, even a tuna hotdish any day, and I am good to go doing good to go ahead.
