Hey YouTube Steven de salón guy here in today's video I'm going to be talking about how to grow out your undercut now. I know I've done probably three thousand videos on this already, but I still get questions and I still have people you know reaching out to me saying how do I grow up my undercut, or you know my Barbara - doesn't know what to do where my stylist doesn't. Whatever - and I said, let me do another video and explain to you my best approach, because I do haircuts like this pretty often and I bait, I help people grow out their hair into a certain type of look or you know, get it ready to grow out. So, there's a few different things before I start showing you different like mannequin heads and look when it comes to growing out your hair. Okay, this is something that you have to be very, very patient with when it comes to. Whoever is cutting your hair, whether it's your barber or your stylist right, and this is where I think the biggest challenge comes into play. Is these people don't really care, not not for nothing, but they just want to do your haircut. You know if it's a barber or they have you know every 15 minutes every half an hour or if you're going to a salon chain that you know they're trained to do 15-minute haircuts. They just want you in and out okay, not to take away from their skill. It could be amazing, but they work off of time and they may not have the time necessary to really analyze your hair or cut it in a way that you know may normally take you know a half an hour of 45 minutes or maybe even an hour Or two kind of think ahead of I'm gon na cut your hair to grow out right, which may sound like a cliche, but for people who actually you know who are watching us who I've cut the hair before they know that I basically cut hair. So it grows out and that alone is like, I call it reconstructive surgery. So when it comes to undercuts, what's happening is - and I mean let me get an example right here - alright, here's an example of a very traditional type of undercut. Alright, this mannequin head. Basically, you know it's like a skin fade or not even a fade. It'S just. You know skin all the way to the line of demarcation. Here, it's completely disconnected very, very traditional undercut how on earth would you grow out something like this? Okay? Well, what you need to do is you need to actually start growing in the sides now once the sides get to a certain point, because obviously it's hard to do anything when it's freshly done like this okay, when it's freshly done like this, your only other option Is to shave your whole head to be honest with you to make the whole thing this length, but what you need to do is you need to grow the sides a little bit all right and then, depending on the type of look you want, you know I Would say, grow it in two words, maybe a half an inch in length or it starts to look a little bit out of control like oh, my god, but if my hair is getting along, especially if your hair is like this length or it's like you know, You'Re getting like a zero guard or a one guard, you know grow it out to about a three guard right or a four guard. We have a half an inch or so of hair to work with throughout the sides. Then what you can do is decide how you want the top to be because it really depends on the top. If you're looking to grow the sides and then cut it, you need to actually cut the hair relatively short, for example, here's another. This is my Hawkeye haircut right here, which is, I did make a video of this. So if you've, if you're a big Avengers fan whatever I did, make a video on Hawkeye just search, Hawkeye, hair, color toriel, and this will come up. But, for example, something like this, you know the top of this hair isn't nearly as long as long as you know this one. So what you need to do is you know, realize that by growing this out here, it'll actually look a little more blended into something. Like this, when the tops of it sure so, you may have to cut the top quite a bit in order to create some sort of illusion of it being balanced, all right and also the long term goal with your hair right. If you're looking to grow something out, you have to think what am I trying to grow it out into because the top may be long enough, the top! It'S already you know, that's why it's an undercut, because the top is long and there's the sides are short. So you have to think you know: what are you trying to grow your hair into? You may have to cut a lot off the top and leave more on the sides. So, for example, something like this. Okay, here's a perfect length of where the sides can end up being now. This could take you three months, so it could take four months. Hair grows between a half an inch to three quarters of an inch a month. Alright, so you think you know it could take you 3-4 months to get to that length you want to be, but, as you can see here, even if the top is a lot longer, this has the illusion of it being connected, because you got some hair in Through here, so you want to get your hair to a certain point to where your it can actually be trimmed and look relatively neat right, but still having some length in there. So you really need to have someone. You know a real expert that can really analyze your hair and you need to say them. I want to grow my undercut, you know and and make sure these professionals can actually do this. Okay, you have to really find someone that can you know match up the look that you're going for, so I don't know what else to share with you guys about this stuff. I mean you know when it comes to growing out your undercut. It really depends on you and your end result and who's. Cutting your hair. Maybe try some styling options for at the top. You know maybe try to camouflage it with. You know going a lot shorter on top and even though it's disconnected it'll kind of grow into the look, you know that's what I'm saying cutting it for the future. You know you could psyche and say: yeah I'll cut this, but in like a month and a half it'll actually be close to exactly where we need to get it. You know, try some different styling options in the meantime. So guys. Let me know if you found this video helpful. If you want to know more God, you know tips and tricks, and things - and I like doing stuff like this, because they're these are relatively easy to make these cut this type of content. But I know that it's valuable to you guys. So you know, let me know in the comments below don't forget to Like comment and subscribe. If you have any challenges with your hair right with, you know, have you been to a barber or a stylist who just doesn't know how to you know, do something like this? Just let me know I'd love to hear from you, alright, so thank you guys. So much for watching and I'll see you next time for more videos with a salon. Guy

sauce chef from ratatouille: The most knowledgeable barbers are the bald ones.

Yen: thesaloonguy: i lead people to treasure i cannot possess

Base Alchemist: This guy, defines hairstyle while unable to have one single hair in his head is one hell of an inspiration for me, it feels like, you know you cant write but you teach people how to unlock a skill of decent writing.. Dayummm ❤❤

Gina Furie: Stephen, always great info.. even for someone who does cut hair. Love all your videos!!❤️

Arii: This is really helpful. Every 3 months or so, slightly trim your top, and in about 6-7 months, (for my style) all your hair will be grown on all sides of your head.

Austin Pricer: I started with an undercut in October and I've been letting it grow out and my long term goal is to grow it out to where it's all the same length and reaches my shoulder blades. Need advice on the best way to do that please.

david buganan: Man thank you this video is what i needed to hear , im at that awkward uneven phase of my hair, need to grow the sides for sure to blend it right, so right alot of barbers , salons dont take the time to look at your hair and suggest anything. Again awsome video thank you! Definitely subscribed!

Steven Mattocks: Yeah mine the top is really long I can tie it up like a ponytail but I want the sides and back same length so your advices are helpful but I m just gonna let it grow naturally and accept it's gonna break all the mirrors for a while not stressing about it that's key for hair growth! :)

Desmadre15: crazy, i just fell onto your channel yesterday looking for info on the undercut and subscribed cause you had the best advise about it. Now you got this out today. Thanks for all your info on this..

BOTCHWEISER: If I were you I’d be pulling out my hair dealing with these repetitive questions but....you have none. Love your vids dude thank you

Jenny Davey: ‍♀️ Lady here.. growing out my undercut.. trying to look cute again. I have MAJORLY thick hair and got the undercut to lessen the stress of "doing" my hair every day... Got more stressed about how often I had to get my undercut taken care of. Also, it was getting really expensive going to the salon every few weeks to a month. Google brought me to your video. ❤️

Rasmus Nobel: I’ve grown my hair out for about a year now. Startet with a cut like the first example, but actrully longer on top. Trust me its fine. Do not get any cuts. It looks awesome now

ZeroSurviv0rs: I rocked an undercut for a long while, usually had my friend do it for me with a #2 on the sides and back and just trim up the tips of the top (about 6-8 inches in length on top). Then I decided I wanted to grow it all out and I just started to let it grow and only had my friend trim up the tips of the long bit. . The top is almost 24 inches in length and its weight keeps it very straight but the sides and back are about 8-10 inches and quite wavy, but just falling onto the shoulders. I am waiting for the sides and back to weigh themselves down to cut it all to one length.

MoDom713: I salute you good sir! Leading others to a treasure you cant posses. Mad props my dude!

Selene Guida: This video was so helpful. I still have problems with my hair. I have a side shaved since forever, which is getting higher each time by accident. My top hair is suuuuper long, and I don't really want to cut it so short as you suggest in the video. Is there any options? I can't find a decent stylist here in Argentina to analize and help me. Thank you!

Kiko TheToast: It’s not babble! It’s actually the helpful information I’m looking for that no one talks about

Christine Hodgins: When the top of your hair is almost two and a half feet long and you want to grow out the undercut

Miguel R: I was growing my hair out. It was going good. I cheated on my barber. Ended up with a hard part comb over. Had to buzz all my hair off and start again

L7L7L7L7L7L7: 2:46 The biggest issue is that some people's hair grows out straight on the sides of their head(more typical with Asian and Latino hair). So basically you end up with potentially a very unattractive look trying to grow it out it will cause your front facial profile to look weird. Until the hair grows out long enough it won't lay down :(

Tu Gfa: "Especially if your hair is like this length" he said as he touched his bald scalp

nithin.k shaji: Can you do a video for curly hair leave a like who wants a video about it

Kye Angeli: Actually helpful. Precisely what I.plan on doing - cutting the remaining long part

Jessica Reeves: I had an undercut , I loved it very much but I’ll never do it again bc of the high maintenance of the cut & time it takes to grow out . It took a whole year just for the hair to grow to the end of my ear and it didn’t blend at all with the rest of my hair . You have to kind of keep cutting it into a bob . Love your videos !!!

Nik W: My hair grows back very fast :) I might get it done again. Great video

C at: Had a side shave for about 2 years, now letting it grow (i loved it but looking for more styling options with a different cut). What im doing is have a middle part to hide it

B M: Hey, I am hoping you or someone can help me. I have very thick hair and it’s always been notorious for growing fast. I had/have an undercut, the hair on the top of my head cokes down to past my chin and the back of my neck, but the issue I am having is the back and sides don’t seem to be growing AT ALL!! They have grown in a bit about a year ago and stayed about an inch for at the whole time. It’s majorly stressing me out. Any tips or advice or explanation would help a lot as I am majorly stressing about it now! Thanks

KingofJuice: I've grown my hair out, and I'm worried about the underneath that grew with the top... What should I do?

Frost Oblivion Gaming: So umm i have a question...when we do that undercut and grow hair to one side ,should we comb in the direction we always do or the opposite?

Marti G: What if we’re trying to grow it out to eventually be long enough to braid into the “Viking” styles? Quick Video on that please? Do I keep putting it into a pony tail/manbun and shaving the sides or just let the sides grow and not even bother getting a haircut?

Janette Patterson: Loved this video. I love my undercut but keeping it trimmed sucks.

Amy K: I have a tip on growing out an undercut. If you got and undercut with NO taper, growing out is going to look porcupine-ish. So....when it starts to look porcupiney: If you started out at 1/8", do a skin fade. When that grows a out little, undercut it again WITH a taper.....say, 1/2 " down to 1/8". Next month, drop that taper line down towards the ear. So now you're starting at 1" and taper down to whatever. Keep going like this and it will get to a point where ot blends in with the top part. And you can avoid the bushy sided.

king_phrog: Thanks i have a growing out undercut and i wanna cut my hair short again, but i don't wanna shave the undercut again lol..it's gonna take some more time than i thought

Elisheb Jo: Greetings from Guatemala. I watch all your videos and love most of them. .you even taught me how to cut my own curly hair, MUCHAS GRACIAS!

Shz: Hey my hair is pretty similar right now to the first doll but I want my sides to grow so I can have a slick back look. Maybe some hair out the back when I wear a beanie. Will it grow into this from the first doll style?

Jon Theman: it is so difficult to find a good hairstylist. found video very very helpful. and your so right about being rushed out .

blueeyedbb777: Thank you sir. I recently cut my hair well I had it shaved on the sides and long on top. This is going to be a challenge for me as it has grown out only a little and I want to shave the sides BUT I want it to grow out at the same time ughhh.. Im letting it grow out this should be interesting.. although I'm pretty sure I can have a bob by spring.. Thank you again sir

Anxious Vampire: I wanna grow out my undercut but the only issue is that I bleached my hair that was longer for the undercut and I’ve been dying it I mean maybe short colored ends are in lol. If all else fails, dark red hair dye

MASTERKUSH626MAIN: Would anyone have recommendations for someone who doesn’t want to cut his top? I’m willing to trim but I have grown it out past my chin. About a half inch past. I haven’t cut my sides in about 5 months.

Smol Mishka: Glad I found this I’m trying to grow my hair back out

JM: My hair is almost the length of the 3rd head. I like my hair combed back but it's hard since it kinda does a weird curl to the left at this length and then I have a cow-lick going to the right. It just looks awkward. I feel like I'm almost there but this awkward look makes me want to just cut it short again

NEVERMIND: Guys just let your undercut grow. I grew mine out with the top of my hair, I didn’t get a trim or anything I just lend it grow until it finally blended in with my top hair and now it looks like I never had an undercut.

Draven Deisley: I just got an undercut it's like a 2 on the sides and back and it's about an inch below my chin and the top is all the same length I'm letting the top grow past my chest and keeping the undercut...if u want to grow out the sides then go in and cut about half an inch to an inch a month off the top then keep growing the sides so while the sides grow the top stays the same then eventually it will catch up to the top

Zombie Bot: thank you very much, the advice was raw lol but you got right!

Bletwort: Can I have some advice? I’m planning to grow my hair into a 90s mushroom cut/curtains hairstyle a very generalised look based on what Leo had in Titanic and River in Indiana Jones. Also kinda like what BTS have. I got an undercut about a month ago and planning to get a haircut next month so by the time I’d have about two inches of length in the back and sides. What should I tell my barber to do? Or should I just keep growing it out until it becomes really long and then cut it?

Draven Deisley: If your hair is long on the top then I'd just part it to where it covers the sides and back more, then wear a hat or a beanie to keep it in place

Slytherin Forever: I got bored in isolation and tried to do my own undercut. I fucked up. It's a hidden undercut so I can hide it. But I would like it to grown it out quickly

ImmersiveGamer83: My hair is nearly to my shoulders and it is undercut sides only , a bit like hawk eye but much longer on top. I was trying to go for NYX hair from final fantasy kingsglaive but now I just struggling with yet another awkward stage. I not sure if I will just keep the side short and eventually do the NYX cut or part it over like Nirvana JJ

BOTCHWEISER: That first mannequin head with the extreme undercut, is there product in that hair? Or does it look that badass just on its own? I’m trying to grow my hair out like this and just want to know what I might be in for

Bycee Frost: I use a wig until it grows to 2 inches then I trim the top a bit and use box braids until it grows to 4 inches then hello buns and ponytails with gel…

Ok: hey steve if i wanted the first maniquens haircut but as a fringe and around nose length what would i say (i have wavy/curly hair)

Danf Dog: This man needs a trophy or something

Olivia Mooradian: Ok so im tryna grow out my hair.. i have a bob length up top, then shaved on the sides and back... not quite sure how to go about that tho

Richmond C: Very helpful thankyou

i_tell_u_h'wat hill: I wish this guy could cut my hair...

Keyler Klein: I got a under cut 3 years ago and as you can tell from my picture it’s way too high all the way around so I have one patch of long hair, I’m so tired of this style and I want to grow it out but I still have to go to school as an 8th grader and people suck so do you have any advice on growing out all of my hair.

Vinny_wit-da_stick: What if I just want to get rid of the undercut man bun and grow the whole head man bun to have long hair all around

beautifulchaos13: everyone who cuts their hair it grows back out u make it out like u cut hair to make it grow back out when it grows back out anyways lol & i have shop in my home so not every stylist or barber doesn’t have time to care otherwise they wouldn’t have same customers for 40yrs so not everyone works for a salon chain some have their shops in their homes ‍♀️

Taylor Bowers: Hi I really want an undercut but my hair is sort of thin and my barbers cant do it What do I do?

Oblio1942: yeah sometimes you just no4 your sides and back. It looks good enough I guess.

Londzale: That's the most stupidest question ever. I would slap his face with my slipper if I could. TheSalonGuy is too kind.

125 365: Great job steve...

Bailey swinamer: Your the best barber/hairdresser I’ve ever seen I’m gonna be so sad when you pass away and there’s no one that’s good at cutting hair

Warbonez808 Foodking: Yeah I tell my barber I wanna grow out my undercut so just leave it long and disconnected, she gives me a fade………

Nobody: My hair is exactly like this and it fights me to stay to the side and not be straight and fall all weird plz help

polkadot: Why do you need to grow the sides out? Why can’t you just grow the top and get regular trims on the sides?

Luis Espinoza: My hair is like 10 inches on the top and my sides are maybe 3 inches at best I’m just dealing with the awkwardness

Felix Spoor: I'm trying to grow my hair out from a fade on the sides and 3-4 inches on top.

Chris Collins: TL; DR. Grow your hair long all the way around and pray your stylist knows what an undercut is.

Jax: I have my sides shaved all the way to the top like the first mannequin head, but I’ve been growing the hair on top for 2 years. Now I want to grow out my sides but it’s gonna look sooo strange. My barber just left her job so now I don’t have a barber I trust to help me with this :/

A literal cancer: I'm trying to grow out mine. Please lend me your strength.

Void 00: could you do an Eddie Vedder early 90's Tutorial?

Yahyaah XD: Please help someone If i fade my sides and let the top grow. Will the top grow like this in 1:59 ????

Vivien Lobo: I love this haircut

Zeuro Maker: People keep saying "haha barber bald no hair can't get what they work with" I would prefer to be entirely fucking bald then have a bald spot, comb over or a extreme receding hairline.

Kent Ramales: Can you grow your own undercut?

William Yanez: You know some barbers do take their time

JJ C: Is there a video on how to grow out a side part?

MavicAVF: “What would your ideal girlfriend have?” 3:00

D Shmoney: Have a undercut with top hair up to my throat sides and back like a 1 and i also want to let it grow now it's october so im just going to wear hoodies

phoreignOutcast: What if I have a front line taper ? How do I grow it out

Kolby Hardy: I’m 15 and my hair is past my chin and I can’t get it to stay how I put it at all lol EDIT: yes I have an undercut

stopdropandroll: everyone is telling me to grow out the sides for an undercut but no one can tell me why. why do i need to grow out the sides if i am only keeping the top????

Ben Hole: What a legend

Yuki Rozen: Can you do like a clippers 101? I used them to cut my husband's hair and just go for it but I can't find info about to properly use it to see if I actually am using them properly , tips and care of the clippers.. . Please.. .? ☺☺

Jobo: The best barber in my city is bald. He’s a badass too. You don’t have to consume a trade to have mastered it.
