In this video I perm my own hair at home during the Covid-19 quarantine. Just trying to have some fun and bring some levity to the world!

Hello, I am about to perm my hair at home quarantine style, so we will see what happens when I do this myself. I have had my hair permed professionally before it was about a year ago a perm usually lasts about six months. Right now only about half my hair looks permed, I'm still able to get some curl when I diffused my hair and try to make it look a bit even, but it is definitely more relaxed up top until you get to the bottom and I'm wanting a more Even look right now all of the salons are closed, so I'm gon na do something stupid and perm my own hair at home. You definitely shouldn't do this. Nobody should do this, but I'm going to so do. As I say. Not as I do. I bought an acid perm, which is supposed to be it's one of the three types of perms and it is supposed to be a bit less damaging than most. This is also a pretty soft. Curl is what it says on the box. I did get three-quarter inch. Perm rods so they're a bit larger, so they are the largest kind of perm size. If you're going with your standard, perm rods - and it is the size I would did last time - and I also had an acid perm the last time we are going to see how this goes. First, I need to wet my hair or I need to shampoo my hair. So this is my hair dry right now it's a bit fluffy because I have had it in a ponytail for like two days and I did have it styled curly yesterday. So I've got a bit of extra body in here that I don't normally have, but I do like it also. My hair is like three different colours right now, because i i've been dyeing my hair dark for years, and i tried to do a hair dye remover and it worked on a good portion of my hair, but the bottom is third of my hair has stayed dark, So a perm will also lift some color. That'S in your hair, so i am gon na see how it turns out, but if it still looks half and a half, i've got some dark hair dye that i'm going to put back. In my I do like it dark, I was just trying to do something different and it didn't work so yeah I'm going to do a shampoo alright. So the next step is to wrap my hair with the tangerine curling rods and the perm paper. I am happy that you do this just with your hair damp, because it is the part I'm the most nervous about. I am a bit scared, but things aren't going to look even it's the part I'm the most nervous about is try and make sure it's not frizzy, because then I'm making my hair permed frizzy alright. So my hair is nice and brushed, and I'm going to divide it into four sections. Hopefully this is something that will help distract people from the current Korona climate that we are in and just provide some entertainment for you. I don't want to miss any hair. I'M a bit nervous about the back of my head, because I have a slight eight line. Well, I have not seen my ear without that jewellery in it, since it's been pierced, which was over a year ago No about a year ago. I did a lot of big things about a year ago. Didn'T I yeah yeah, like I said this is the part I'm most nervous about so and I feel like it's gon na. Take me a while to do all of these. I got ta just stay all the way up. Let'S try this again all right. It took me forever, but if I only got it to stay up against my head, that's it. I got ta, send a picture of my mom and ask her if it looks bad. My mom is very honest, like very honest, she'll tell me if it's just straight-up stupid. This is not me giving a tutorial, I'm just telling you what I'm doing don't do this and then bringing this around the bottom to try and get it to be tight up against my head. My mom texted me back we'll see if she thinks it looks really bad. She said it okay, just kind of when I get to the top I'll start to curve it back, and I think it's going well. I hope so at least more the half my head is done. I know these probably aren't the best rules, but it's better than some others that I've seen so it'll be fine, I'll, be fine. All right, my head, ripped net. My whole head is wrapped mixing the activator with the waving lotion. Let'S go and do smell like poopoo. All right here goes really need to make sure you protect your eyes if your perming, your hair, it literally has the word acid in the title. Okay, I am just such getting each and every raw, nice and saturated. This doesn't come out too fast, so I'm actually sexually. This part is actually easier than I thought it was gon na be okay. It'S all I've been they're not supposed to be applying any heat or anything. This is just so it doesn't get everywhere. Okay, so just at a timer for ten minutes, I'm gon na check on it. It'S this process in time is 20. I didn't do a very good job, keeping my face from getting wet. I only did my makeup because I was gon na be recording anyway, alright, so my hair has been rinsed for five minutes and I am just how blotting like the directions say. Alright, now we are going to add the neutralizer so that it stops permi. I don't know if my skin has mad at me because of the perm or from the shower cap I was wearing. Who am I kidding? It'S probably at the perm. I got burned my forehead a little bit and right here where this curl is setting against my face a little it's kind of red, it's not so bad middles are hurt. I didn't even feel it, but just unfortunate I've started taking him out. I'Ve got this little cute, curly Q back here, so pretty thrilled. There isn't any like major catastrophe or anything right now. Everything feels pretty good um everything's staying attached to my head anyway. So what I'm gon na do is I'm probably just gon na put my head over the bathtub and really really saturate the neutralizer on my head cuz. I don't feel like. I can use too much of that um and then I will need to rinse my head for another five minutes or so, and then I am just going to style my curly hair. The way I normally would I'm just gon na put a little bit of product in it and blow-dry it with my user, and then I will be back all right. Here is my hair. It got a bit lighter up top. Then it was before kind of took some of the brassiness out but had been left from the dye remover that I used, but it is still very much not the same color at the bottom that it is at the top. So I'm gon na give it a few days and then I will probably die it you're not supposed to shampoo or condition a perm for a few days anyway. So all I did is, I put some coconut curling cream in there by Cantu and I used a diffuser to blow-dry my hair. It'S a little bit messy right now and I don't love the way it's laying up top, but I feel like I mean it will relax a little bit and I was a reading brush it or put conditioner in it or anything like that. So I'll be able to style it a bit better in a couple of days, I will give you an update, but the curls turned out pretty fantastic and definitely have more volume to my hair, and that is what I wanted so, and my hair is also parting. Weird because of where that all the rods were so yeah, but I think it looks really cute, it looks super fun a little bit 80s, but nothing like too crazy. I am into it I'm digging it but yeah. I will give you an update in a few days um when I'm able to style it a little bit more. How I like sorry this is like my first video. So of course, I'm like looking in that you find her way too much hi. So here is my hair for days after being permed, I washed it 48 hours after and loved the way the curl looked, but I still really didn't like how many different colors my hair was so I dyed it yesterday and I just styled it. I just did my usual curling cream and diffused my hair on a low heat, and I am obsessed. I love my hair right now. It makes me so happy when it's curly, and it makes me so happy that it's just like this all the time I took it out of my hair wrap after my shower today, and it just was automatically curly and beautiful, and I was thrilled. I'M obsessed with this a little like lift up here. I feel like it frames my face so well and I just feel like it adds some liveliness to my demeanor. Kate Marlowe: I’ve been a stylist for about 30 years now.....don’t worry, I’m not going to lecture you... experimenting with my own hair is what led to my career choice. Having said that, I thought it might be helpful if I bestowed a bit of product knowledge upon you: Hair color removers do 2 things, usually. 1) they soften and swell the hair 2) they shrink the pigment molecules, allowing you to rinse the color out. The ends of our hair are usually tougher and less malleable than newer growth due to environmental factors, chemicals, and general wear and tear. Also, our ends will often have color overlap, making it much harder to rinse pigments out. However, if you try the color remover again, my advice is to rinse for a VERY long time with warm water, then use a 10 volume color developer and pour it on a test spot. If there are still pigments, they will reoxidize immediately and you know to repeat the process. If you skip this step, even if it looks like the color is all gone, the pigments will oxidize again anyway, just slowly. You would likely wake up after 24 hours or so with dark hair again. ☺️ Since the perm solution is highly alkaline, it will also soften and swell the hair, opening the cuticle and allowing some pigments to be rinsed out (which is why color fades a bit during a perm). The “acid” refers to the neutralizer that locks in the shape that your softened hair has taken-on wrapped around the rods, resulting in a “permanent “ curl-formation. I hope this helps!
Carol Sperduto: You did a great job. I have one suggestion should you ever decide to do it again. You should roll the curls under. It will give the hair more volume at the root. By rolling it the way you are, you're pressing the roots against your scalp, not getting much lift at the root.

blue eyed siren: I hate to tell you but the front part is not going to sort itself out it was the way that you actually rolled the hair because that is beyond important especially if you want volume you should do completely on base and yours were about half onhalf off and you probably should do a directional perm next time and pay attention to the direction and placement. that’ll help a lot! Julliana Jimenez: cute but suggest something lighter than cantu, cantu is made for more thick natural tightly coiled/curls. If you use something light you will get more definition
