I think I've got it. I figured out my hair at least for right now: hey there guys welcome back to my channel and, if you're brand new here, if this is your first video, your first time hanging out with me hi my name's Courtney and I love playing around with all things. Wavy curly hair. Yes, I know my hair does not look wavy curly right now. As someone with fine High porosity, wavy hair, it does stretch out a lot but we're going to style it today today is wash day and I'm going to show you all the secrets. I have discovered with my brand new head of hair in December, I decided to do a big change. I spent the entirety of 2022 growing out my hair with the thought that I would donate it. My dreams came true. I donated my hair and then for funsies. I highlighted my hair turns out that that did change quite a bit, how my hair behaved, how it wanted to curl which products it liked. Also, getting a lot of hair cut off changed the way my hair wanted to curl, but I have been playing around with this brand new head of hair for about six weeks now, and I think I think I have figured out what my hair likes. I'M about to show you my favorite routine, that I have been doing as of late and disclaimer. This video is not sponsored in any way shape or form. So keep that in mind when we take a look at the products that my hair have been loving before we get started, I want to show you the entirety of the before hair. This is what my hair is looking like before we wash yes, I know. I know it looks almost straight, but watch watch how it transforms. Let'S head into my bathroom - and I will show you exactly what has been giving me my best waves and curls as of late starting off this routine, with soaking wet hair, I'm going in with the curl Smith essential, moisture cleanser. Oh, my goodness, this has become my new favorite shampoo and conditioner set of all time. This is an extension of curl Smith's original line. The co-wash and the Hold Me Softly balm. This is a shampoo and conditioner that is designed to be quite moisturizing. The fragrance is so similar to their co-wash. I love the scent. This product has amazing slip. I could not find a shampoo that didn't make my hair feel all snarly and tangly. Until I tried this one. My highlighted hair is really prone to Tangles, so this works great co-washing is still not for me for my fine wavy hair, but this shampoo is where it's at once. I have thoroughly cleansed my scalp. I do pull the lather through the tiny Links of my hair to cleanse them and then I rinse thoroughly continuing to scrub with the pads of my fingers as I rinse before, going in with essential moisture conditioner, I love how rich and hydrating this product is. Can you see how much of a tough time I'm having getting it out of the bottle I'm going to set it down while I pump some out now? Something I noticed when I got highlights in my hair is that my hair almost felt Hollow like that's the only way I know to describe it, and even though my hair is less than half the length it was before, it needs double the amount of conditioner and Styling products than it used to so that's why I'm grabbing so much conditioner. I love how slippery this one is, and you can see that I've started did putting it on my bid links to ends, but I went ahead and worked it all the way up into my roots, gas Courtney. Don'T you know that that will make your hair oily greasy? Well, I have hair up there on my scalp near my roots and it gets dry and it needs some love. If you are finding that you are really struggling with Halo, frizz, don't be afraid to condition the hair up near your roots. I am particularly oily greasy and I don't find that putting conditioner all the way to my roots makes that problem worse. Once I have thoroughly finger detangled and really taken my time detangling my hair, I go ahead and finish Distributing the conditioner through my hair with the brush, I'm not using the brush to detangle per se, I'm using the brush because it really distributes the conditioner well, but Brushing your hair before it's detangled could cause damage. So that's why I use my fingers to detangle okay. I hope that makes sense now that my hair has all that conditioner distributed. I am adding a tiny bit of water to my hair. I am not rinsing out all the conditioner. What I am doing is I am preparing to do a squish to condition this is a game. Changer, your hair can go into what is called curl shock after a haircut, especially a big haircut like the one I had. It can be difficult for your hair to find its curl families. It'S curl clumps again, thus curl shock doing a thorough squish to condition every time you wash your hair can lessen the effects of curl shock. It'S also a way to deeply nourish and hydrate your hair. So, if you've just gotten a lot of highlights and bleached your hair to the heavens doing this step, not skimping on this step will make a world of difference. It definitely did in my hair routine. Now I'm rinsing that conditioner out, because it is a rinse out. Conditioner before I go in with the Featherlite protein cream, this is awesome. You remember that Hollow feeling I talked about this product was almost too rich for my hair when it was low, porosity virgin hair, but it is so perfect for my highlighted hair. I am grabbing a lot for me anyway. Most of the time I grab just like half a pea sized amount of leave-in conditioning product nope, I'm grabbing a Fair bit. I would say that that is at least half a teaspoon and I'm going to be applying it very similarly to how I do my rinse out conditioner, I distribute with my fingers and then I'm going to do my version of brush styling. This is a new newer version of brush styling that I have started doing. I kind of did something similar before my hair was this short, but now I really take my time, brushing through my hair and giving my hair a little shake so that the curl clumps kind of come together and form you can see. As I shook my head, some curl families happened. It'S so cute. I did like brush styling my hair right side up. It gave me more control than this method, but this method is quite a bit faster and honestly easier for me now I am parting. My hair and adding one more section of brush styling. I found that the crown of my head needed some extra ink encouragement to Clump together and really get nice and smooth and organized. So I'm really taking my time to brush that section quite a bit before I give my hair a good good shake and I do my swing. Curl Clump method. Yes, I know it's a little silly to swing my hair around like that, but it does help my curls really come together. It keeps the hair from getting stuck on the back of my head when I do style upside down for all the volume. This won't work. If you don't have enough water in product in your hair, it will only bust up your curl clamps. So if you've tried the swing, curl, Clump method and it hasn't worked for you add more water, add more product before you swing your hair around now I am just scrunching and pulsing that product into my hair, before I lock everything into place with the fragrance free Shine gel hold level nine. There is a jelly in the same line. It has less hold we're we're using all the hold and lots and lots of gel. I know this is stunning to me. I did not think my hair would ever need this much product if it were this short, but don't be afraid to adjust your product amounts just because a certain product amount works, for somebody doesn't mean that it'll work, for you don't be afraid to experiment and play Around with product amounts, this routine is really shooting for a nice crunchy cast a cast has become my best friend as of late. I am applying these products on hair. That is not quite as soaking wet as it used to be like it's more damp than soaking wet, as I'm applying the gel that's going to help the cast and using more gel is going to help me get a good cast. Now there is still enough water in my hair that there's a good squish when I scrunch the gel in there's still enough water in my hair to help the gel distribute evenly, but not as much as in the past. I also really take my time scrunching this gel into my hair. Not only does this help kind of activate the waves and curls and help them figure out where they want to land, it helps distribution. So if you are finding that you have a section in your hair, that is just more stretched out and doesn't want to curl up as much, it is quite possible that it is not getting enough product to help that hold it style and you're, not scrunching it. While you're styling so really dislocate your shoulder reach all the way around in the back your head and make sure you're scrunching in all the sections and areas. This is what my hair is looking like after product application. Yes, it's not perfect. There is some wet frizz. I'M really trying to demonstrate here exactly what my curl clumps are looking like before we get in to diffusing, so I have not been plopping. My hair, like I used to I've, been loving the scrunching towels from the perfect hair care to micro pop my hair. This was a phrase coined back in 2019 that basically just means that you are scrunching your hair with a towel. This is a very gentle way to sort of blot the excess water from your hair. If you were finding that your curl clumps are extra, delicate or fragile, this will really help them stay intact before you go into diffusing. I have also switched up my diffusing technique and I have been loving doing hammock diffusing. I just set my blow dryer on my counter: it's on high speed and high heat shh, don't tell the curly hair police, but I gently scoop up my curls and just hold them like in a hammock with my scrunching towel. As I diffuse my hair, I found that pixie diffusing. My hair really made my curls wonky, and this really helps them to dry in a nice shape. I still hate diffusing, but it is quite a bit faster now that my hair is short and the last part of this routine is patience after I finished diffusing my hair. Normally, what I do is, I diffuse it to 90 dry, and then I wander around my house for a little while, like an hour, tops let it finish air drying, and then I scrunch out the crunch. However, I have found that my hair is doing way better when I leave it in the cast for longer. In fact, I've done this routine a couple of times in the evening. Let my hair get 100 dry, so diffuse to 90. Let it finish air drying to 100 dry and leaving it in the cast. While I sleep overnight now, I can't necessarily pineapple my hair up, which is something I used to do when I would sleep with my hair in the cast, but I just drape it over. My pillow and that worked really well, I wake up in the morning and scrunch and fluff really. The crunch gets scrunched out over the course of the night, while I'm sleeping and rolling on my pillow, but I get up in the morning and fluff it and boom. I'M ready to go so the cast has been in my hair for several hours at this point and if it's a little crunchy so now, let's scrunch out the crunch or smooth it out, I'm kind of doing a prayer, hands situation and a scrunch to get the Cast out of my hair and fluff - and here are the final scrunched out results and there you have it - that is the full routine in case you've forgotten already. This is what my hair looked like when we started not too bad, but a little bit greasy and definitely stretched out and again. My hair now looks like this again. It has been so fun playing around with my new head of hair. If I had to leave you with something from this video, it is that a big change in your hair is not something to be afraid of. You may have your routine down. Pat, you may be totally content with your hair. That is wonderful. If you find yourself getting frustrated on more wash days than not frustrated on wash day, it might be time for a change. It might be time to shake things up. This has definitely been fun if you found this video helpful feel free to give it a thumbs up and share it, and if you want to hang out some more go ahead and subscribe, click that notification Bell, because we will continue playing around with all things: wavy Curly hair all the wavy curly hair science experiments you're not going to want to miss it. We have some really good stuff coming up, as always, I hope you're having an absolutely fantastic day, and I will talk to y'all later bye, foreign

Jess G.: I shower at night and I always sleep with my hair in the cast. It definitely helps my curls to last longer. No pineapple, no bonnet, just a satin pillowcase.

Erin: I've been loving the shine gel too! I also do the overnight cast thing since I wash in the evenings.

Andrea Basaure: I thought it was just me who thought that my hair had to get used to the new haircut, but you confirmed it Generally, it takes a couple of weeks every time I do a radical change of look. Oh, that included the hair dye when I used to dye my hair as well.

Gretchen Mosetter: Can I just say how grateful I am for you bleaching your hair!! I have come into my curly hair journey with very compromised hair, and I have been thinking that my hair will never be very curly. However, seeing how your hair has changed after highlights gives me reassurance that, as my hair gets healthier and grows out, it will become more and more curly! Love your end result! And I will have to try the propping up of the diffuser!❤️

Ondulada 2a: Oi, sou do Brasil mas amooo os seus conteúdos para cabelo ondulado, seus vídeos me inspiram a cuidar do meu cabelo 2ab!!!!❤

oracleofdreams: I have naturally low density fine high porosity hair and I do 80% of this routine especially the smooth out the crunch! I live S and E of you Courtney and the humidity here is how I designed my routine and ended up near 1:1 for this routine here:)

Marci Gitler: Thanks so much! I didn’t get a new haircut but I had a bad health year. My hair is thinner and just reacting totally different to my old routine. You’ve made me feel a lot better about feeling like I’m starting all over figuring things out. Fyi-my hair and I are starting to feel healthy again!

Caitlin Modine: i always need a TON of product! Fun to see you need more for once ;) I recently broke my arm and have been loving my lazy routines inspired by you <3

Deandra Johnson: I condition my roots too cause since my hair is super fine it can be prone to breakage and I have some in the front of my scalp that I am trying to grow back in. Since we shampoo mostly our scalp if I put no product or conditioner up there it gets dry and even more prone to breakage. I feel ya girl.

Ioana Schifirnet: So cute! Also so excited about curlsmith moisture shampoo and conditioner! That product line up looks amazing

Lauren uploads: This is great! Your SCC method works so well for me, and seeing it on hair more my length was really helpful. I find that styling upside down makes my many baby/regrowth hairs want to stay pointing away from my head (sooo much halo frizz!) But volume is so tricky! I'd love to see a series where you test out drug store dupes for these products- curlsmith is hard to find in Aus, and exxy, and also seems to make me itchy

Chrystal Thornton: Growing up, I was never allowed to wear long hair. Always had to wear a very short haircut or at least a ponytail because of my bushy frizzy "straight" hair. I was nagged constantly to cut my hair and even threatened to cut it while I slept. I'm quite old now with 50% grey (or silver) and have decided to grow it (even dream my deceased mother is nagging me to cut it), and I would look like a mermaid except when you're this old, it's more crazy cat lady. Anyhow I'm happy my hair looks as shiny, healthy and full as it does at my age so just going to see what happens.

Lu G: I love it! I was so inspired by your haircut video that I showed a short clip of it to my curly specialist. (I showed her the last part where Alyson explains what to ask for) I was told that I would end up with _mushroom hair_ as it grew out, so she needed to make adjustments. I told her the length I was wanting (either just brushing my shoulders or just above, not chin length) Unfortunately, she kinda went all Edward Scissorhands on me and 2 1/2 weeks later, I might still be a little salty about it. It'll grow, I know but I now have *so many* layers and I didn't before. Sorry for venting, but I guess I'm just still frustrated that I didn't get what I asked for. Anyway, thanks for sharing! ❤

Mandy Maney: Loved this video. So glad that you have found the best routine for your new hair. Mine is also highlighted and very fragile. Using Treluxe products atm and Curlsmith bonding treatment. Which has been AMAZING!

Celeste: This is exactly how I style my short wavy hair! I can't believe how much product you need now! My low porosity hair needs barely any lol.

I'm WWinning: Yayy! Hi beautiful sister in Christ Courtney! WOW! Your hair transformation was AMAZING! I was so HAPPY to see your hair routine, I find it so educational (and cathartic, hehe)! Something about watching the whole process is so therapeutic <3 Thank you for all that you so and I pray you ad your beautiful family are keeping well. Blessings, LIsa <3

Syl B: I'm right there with you, I love putting conditioner into my roots. My hair is so dry that if I don't, it gets super frizzy.

Michèle Meyer: I really need to try this technique ❤ I cutted about 20cm of my hair last month and I'm really struggling to find a routine that works like it did before...

Whitney Long: Your swing method has been so helpful for me! The best results I've had so far. Before trying your method I was always frustrated with my results. However I've learned to let go and have fun with your method! Love the feather light protein cream! One of my fav products from curlsmith. I love your hair. You've inspired me to do the same thing!

sophiemariecurly: I absolutely love your new short hair! suits you so much! :) xx

Chelsea Pickslay: So cute! I want to try that kind of diffusing + sleeping in the cast Thanks, Courtney!

Derrick Jennifer Watkins: Your hair looks so lovely, Courtney!

Mandy Ratliff: It's interesting to see how your styling products and techniques have changed. I have hair about the length of yours, medium texture, and it's high porosity due to me coloring it so I've always had to use way more product even though my hair was half as long as yours. At first I thought I was doing something wrong. But it seemed to be what worked for me so I kept doing it. I'm glad to see your new routine here. It is some much needed validation that maybe I wasn't doing it wrong after all Also sleeping in a bonnet really helps my longevity!

Anne Siska: Love it!!! Thanks for this video my hair is short and I may try this method!!!

AL: You should give K18 another shot now that you have highlights! :) I love it so much for my highlighted fine wavy hair. And I’ve been on the same bottle since April!!

Cindy MS.: Just ordered these products. My hair is a couple of inches shorter so I'm happy to add to my Curlsmith collections. They always work so well in my hair.

corne swartz: Hi Courtney! Just want to ask you something, do you sometimes style your hair without a leave-in? Especially in hot summer weather? Or do you find it is always good to use a leave-in product? I have fine hair as well, but low porosity.

Kerry J.: Thank you! My hair is about your length now and I always feel like I use too much product but maybe I don’t!

Ara: It will help if you do some layers. And don’t stretch out while breaking the cast. Just scrunch the crunch gently. You will get better results and will not affect the curls.

Tj: I soo enjoy learning from you!! Several "new" techniques I will be trying!! Also just want to share being old enough to be your Momma I Soo APPRECIATE that you always wash your hair bending over the tub (which I'm sure is hard on your neck & back) I TRULY APPRECIATE the Modesty of not sharing your routine in the shower!! I've watched you for some time now and have never shared that but wanted to say I TRULY APPRECIATE that EXTRA EFFORT!! LORD BLESS YOU Sweet Girl in ALL you do!! You are a BRIGHT LIGHT for JESUS!!! P.S. think you could invite Melissa Doughtery on and have her share her curly hair routine and a quick message ♥️

Monica Bush: My hair is shoulder length and I Medusa clip my hair on top of my head at night. It helps to preserve my curls and add volume.

Julia's Hair Journey: Your hair still looks wavy even when it stretches out. My hair can stretch out too, and then look wavy after washing

Emily Durkee: I'm so excited you just uploaded this! This is exactly what I needed!!

Rian: Your hair grew pretty fast in almost a year!

Marcy: Thanks for the routine update! Not hair related but your eyes look amazing, can you provide a makeup tutorial? Or if there is one you follow, please share!!!

pixiedust pages: I'd really like to see how you get your hair to be straight with no frizz. Mine curls similarly to yours when I style it but when it stretches out its never as consistent all over. I know its a bit different to the usual aim on your channel to style for curly hair but I'd still love to know :)

D Ebner: I find it easier to bend over and lay my hair on the counter, on a T-shirt. Saves the back, having something to lean on. Courtney, do have layers in your hair now? Since I've been on this journey, over 2 years now, I know I need to get it cut, but debating whether to get layers, I think, for me, like Jannelle O'Shaughnessy, my hair is curliest in the ends, to layer it makes the curls sparse. So, she does light layers on top. Does anybody else have weird hair, parts that are clump so nicely and another part is almost refusing to clump and wants to be frizzy? I think that section is just so low porosity, water just beads on it. How can I help that section that section? It also were my white hair is.

AliciaGrave: I’d love to see this routine but completed upright, I’m pregnant and cannot upside down wash my hair. Also love the product recommendations! I’ll have to check them out since I still highlight my hair and wear it curly.

Mar Cruz: You channel helped me figure out my wavy hair!

vicky sicling: I have your hair! Finally! So, above shoulder, coloured hair......so happy you managed to donate so much.....even happier I can now try some products along with you

Faye Berman: You look so happy in this video! A whole new energy.

Jenifer Wrighte: My hair is the same length but a bit curlier. I sleep in a Buff at night! Love the Buff!

Elizabeth Reed: I've watched a lot of curly hair videos recently and I'm curious about the difuser drying. I haven't used a blow dryer on my hair in a few years. I just let my hair air dry (with lots of scrunching sessions until it is). Do you really need to dry your hair? Does it make/keep the curls better? I'd rather just keep letting it fully air dry... But now I'm questioning that. THANK YOU for the videos! I also have fine, short-ish, wavy hair, so I always love hearing from others like that. (I feel like in most of the curly hair videos, the people have super thick hair, which I can NOT relate to at all.)

PS Mauney: Your hair and style looks so pretty!

aimee: your eyes pop wayyy more with short hair! really brings out the blue

Angie Pattillo: I think some layers would release your curls so beautifully.

emily vay: I like putting my conditioner on my roots I find it helps us detangling I don’t know how I could like detangling my hair without putting conditioner throughout my hair and only putting on the midst ends I don’t really find a problem with making my roots greasy I think you just have to be more thorough when rinsing it out

Brighteyes72: Curl Shock, now I know why my hair is not curling like it was when it was long. I got it cut off end of last year and to this day I can hardly get it as curly as it was when it was long and I thought less hair more curl, 100% not true. Thank you now i know i need to play around with it and try stuff that I couldn't when it was long.

FrizzyPoofyScooby Fan: I loved this video. I was missing watching you wash your hair. I don't mind at all that you use curlsmith a lot. I recently bought the Essential Moisture Cleanser and Conditioner with the Hydro Style Flexi Jelly and the Curl Defining Styling Soufflé and I LOVE it all! My hair is so happy and I get day 2 hair!!!! I also bought the curlsmith hair dryer and it is perfect. I love how it doesn't get to hot. Thanks for all you share. It is very helpful! ☺

T. K.-S.: One question, do you think you can make a video postpartum about your hair change? My hair's texture is so different post partum (11 months now). It used to be much wavier naturally without products, and now it is super soft and more stretched out but gets easily oily if I use products. Hugs!

T. K.-S.: I got into your channel because I needed/wanted to do background research on Curlsmiths Bond Rehab Salve. I definitely went down a rabbit hole of 1) your videos and 2) Curlsmith products, but I also enjoy them a lot. So, YES, I was influenced by you, but I am also happy about it.

Caitlin Modine: i think the higher porosity is making your curls tighter too!

Star 123: I love that Shine gel but I add water to my hands. Weirdly, my hair has become protein sensitive so I’ve had to shelve some of my previous fave creams

Gina Blanton: Love this!!

Diane Patrick: I love your new hair color!

Jessica Mcguiggan: Can you try the pasta strainer diffusing technique? I saw video and been wanting to try it. Still getting used to diffusing though.

KatyandJoemac: I like you diffusing technique. I have a similar routine on my fine hair.

Marleen G.: I see you struggle at that tap so often. I would ask for a handheld shower for my birthday, Courtney. ;) :p It's life changing! I promise.

Vanessa: My waves are way too dry after the first scrunch... I try to be gentle and not squeeze the water out too much, but it just dries so fast.

Karen Keith: Wow! You have curl / waves on the top of your head! I do not remember you with waves on the top of your head before. Great video!

Star 123: I love that plant shirt!

Mattar: Does the treluxe shampoo tangle your hair? I remember you saying it was one of the few shampoos you could actually detangle your hair with. I wonder how it compares to the curlsmith one

Julie Gaillard: I also get some wonky curls pixie diffusing with the CS diffuser bowl but love to hover diffuse. Did you know that the old beloved BLACK ORCHID diffuser fits on the CS dryer snug & secure with inner ring inside of BO❤the deeper bowl May help

Kimberly Hazy: Thank you this was helpful for me. I do like your hair this length. How are the kids???

Victor Cirone: I like your short hair straight....longer looks good curly imo.

Deb S: Too cute!!!

emily vay: I love your hair I love the curly hair

Emily Carriker: I really like curlsmith a lot and I assure you they don't know who I am lol . I have a ton of bumble I got through Octoly (pr) and I still doubt they know me lol . Curlsmith I'd really good . I need to get the conditioner, I got the shampoo from that line

Karen Grove: Im going to try curly smith new shampoo and conditioner

emily vay: I don’t know how you wash your hair with a full face of make up my make up with look like a mess by the end of it but yours looks good

Sharon Knutson: I’m wandering what brand or type of brush you are using. I looked on the website and it’s not listed on the accessories list.
