Hey guys crystal here from elite here kusa, so today's video is going to be very, very different. The reason for this video is merely to show when it comes on to natural hair in short, styling. How texture can sometimes make this a little more of a lengthy process and sometimes can also make it a little bit a little more difficult? I don't well, maybe I shouldn't say difficult: the process can be really lengthy for things in this case, so my client here is 100 % natural. Her hair texture is coarse, but she does have a looser curl pattern and she's also salt-and-pepper. For those of you that don't know, gray hair is actually one of the most resistant types of hair. There is - and it is also one of those types of hairs that requires a lot more work, sometimes to manipulate it to make it match with the rest of the hair. So what I had to do - and this process like I said, was very lengthy and it's not something that I suggest for everyone. This is more like a for the day kind of style. I had to first shampoo and condition her. Then we dried her blow-dried her and now I have to actually hot comb her just to get that cuticle to slightly lay and to get that salt-and-pepper hair in a more even pattern which, even with that it doesn't happen right away, guys, um. The reason why I had to do it this way number one is because I needed to cut her or trim her, because she actually is coming from a place where she had dreads. So her hair was very uneven. We did a hydration therapy treatment today we did a couple of different things in regards to her hair care and for me to be able to really give her a full-on cut. That is even that will mimic. You know anything of a short style. I had to actually do this part of the process first and then you'll be able to see why I say this can be a very lengthy another heads up for this video. I did not actually get to show the Finnish style only because I ended up having to go back and do a little bit more silking, so I ended up having to cut the video, but you actually see up until about 80 % of the style is completed. So you just keep watching what the main purpose of this video is to really educate you on what process we have to go through some times just to mimic a short style on natural hair. It is not one of those things that I absolutely suggest for every person, because this can be something that is just more say. It'S almost useless at some point and I'll tell you why and I don't want anyone to get upset, but I'm very honest. So after this entire process of you know straightening her trimming her, you know making this style look absolutely amazing. You have to take, in effect her hair texture for hair type in her hair length. This style is not going to last her more than 24 hours, and I know this from experience. So this is one thing that I always tell my clients who come in. For short, natural cuts to mimic pixie cuts or short cuts, they do not last. Why? Because you have a thing called a heat zone. The heat zone is about an inch away from the scalp itself, so from the scalp to one inch out. That is the heat zone. That is where you perspire the most. That is where your body heat really comes into play and guess what? If you are natural and on top of it, your coarse textured natural, that hair is going to do exactly what you taught it, which is revert, there are going to be stylists out there. That tell you, oh you know it's achievable absolutely. It is achievable, but I am also one of those status where I'm very honest, and I am NOT going to waste a person's time, if not absolutely necessary for a special occasion. So that was the main reason why I made this video. So I just completed the trim phase of the actual styling portion of this. So so far, we've watched her blow-dried, her hot combed, her trimmed her. Now I actually have to go back and mold her, because I had to cut her first and I have to straighten the hair enough for me to be able to make the hair lay. Why? Because she has a very coarse texture and that hair was not going to lay down in the state that it was in, so I actually had to go back and read wet the hair with wrap foam. Yes guys. This is a part of the process and at this point of the process, you have to be very, very quick. Why? Because that hair begins to revert, I'm using wrap foam, that's moisture so that hair automatically wants to revert right away, which is what it is supposed to do, and that's a good thing guys. That means that she has no heat damaged by the way. And then I have to wrap her like she is the mummy okay. This takes a lot of time, so when I'm wrapping the hair, I'm using at least in this case, I used three different wrap strips to wrap her hair and now I'm going around and actually making sure that this hair will lay all the way down while she's Under the dryer, so when you have natural short cuts, you cannot leave any space for expansion. That'S why I had to wrap her hair with all these wrap trips, like that, so that her hair would stay in place and stay compressed while she was under the dryer. So once the hair dried, it took us about 45 minutes to dry her hair, and I want you guys to notice, as I comb through her hair. Her texture comes right back out that, even though I've already hot cold, her I've already trimmed her I've already blow-dried her her texture pops right back out because she has a coarse texture of hair. So when you hear me say not all textures are created equal. It is absolutely true noise, so you do work a lot harder with hair textures of her kind, where, while I can say her hair is beautiful. She has a great texture of hair for natural hair. She has a beautiful grade of hair or a great grade of hair. I love the color, but is this hair type suitable for a short pixie style? Probably not because you want something, no matter what that is going to have longevity, and this style is not going to last very long. Why? Because of number one, like I said, for texture of hair number, two, her heat zone and a lot of stylists won't tell you that they'll be glad to take your money, they'll, be glad to style. You they'll be glad to put you through this entire process. For you to go home and for your style to last no more than 24 to 48 hours, I've had clients come in and do this process and their hair last three hours and it's not because of technique. It'S not because of skill. It'S not because of any of that, but you have to know that you're dealing with the natural elements and you're dealing with what God gave her and her hair. But you have to know what the hair will do and how to advise your client. So I want you guys to take this video for informational purposes, not to deter anyone from ever getting a short style. But I definitely always recommend doing a consult just to confirm that you have the right, texture and type for a style of this sort. And what your prognosis of longevity is going to be so always keep that in mind, guys it's not that we don't want to do these kinds of styles, but any honest, stylist is gon na. Tell you the truth and they're gon na make your expectations more realistic. They don't want you to walk out and think that you now have a pixie cut and all as well. It doesn't always work that way, guys it doesn't and she's already gone through about a two-hour process by this point, including the hot comb again. So this is now my second time having to go through and hot comb, her hair, because guess what her texture does not like the hot comb, either. That'S salt-and-pepper hair that she has is resistant, and it's not one of those types where you can do too much. While I can apply the heat to her, I still was not able to lay her the way that I really would have wanted it to lay, because I have to deal with what I have to deal with. So you guys just like I said, take this as an informational video, don't forget to subscribe to my channel, I'm more than certain they're gon na be 800 stylist out there. Oh, I could've did this. I could've did that absolutely you can we all? Can we all shouldn't we all could but who's gon na be honest about this process? I am so definitely use this to your advantage. This will give you an idea of how to advise your client based on texture and type, don't forget to subscribe. Once again. Don'T forget to thumbs up this video and also guys, if you have ever had a style like this, where you got a pixie cut and your natural tell us. How long did it last I'd really like to know, but once again this is Christopher, really haircare you as hey guys, don't forget to go to eat haircare usa.com for any of your product and beauty needs and I'll see you guys in the next video

Lorbeth Donhar: While I was transitioning from relaxed hair to my natural hair, I underwent a similar style process - twice, though not a pixie cut - that lasted until I left the salon. The first time due to moisture outside the salon, my hair went limp almost immediately. The 2nd time it looked silken and luxuriant for about an hour - long enough to be photographed; then it reverted. So on both occasions, less than eight/24 hours! But years ago when I was going salt and pepper, I had a hairdresser who did a bang-up job by mildly texturizing my curls to loosen them and then style my pixie cut with the blow dryer and a bristle brush. That always worked until the next cut. #nowilovemygraynatural

Ebony C.: ‍♀️ I mean I think it could have been straightened better. I’ve seen natural hairstylist straightened the kinkiest hair and coarser hair and it’s LAID!! I’ve heard that it all starts with the product you use and the blow drying part that will give you the flat, straighten hair. However, the back didn’t look so bad. I wish we could have seen the finished look

Michelle B.: Omg! I needed this video. This has been my struggle for many years. Even with relaxers my curls still come through. At least I understand why and that I'm not alone.

agoddessadiva: Thanks, Crystal for sharing this. I am one of the people that requested a video of this. I appreciate your honesty, and I can now see that this is a tedious task. I have salt and pepper hair and I really wanted to see how it could be naturally styled by heat. Again, thanks for your honesty.❤️️

Robin D: Another great educational video Crystal I have been natural for 20 yrs. I use to rock a bob. I have a vid of myself wearing my bob. I got tired of the bob. Now i rock a short cut. I have no issues with reversion. Several reasons. My hair has been trained (20 yrs), hair not super thick. Or very coarse. HOWEVER I want a pixie cut ✂, but like the lovely Crystal said at that VERY short length the hair will draw up, won't lay like a permed pixie. Just my 2 ¢

Niky9965: I absolutely love how educated you are and how unafraid you are too tell the world the truth that others would try and shut out just for money. Thank you for all this information. You have a wonderful technique.

Mary J Flanagan: I'm getting my hair done exactly like this. I was searching for a video in which the oersons hair is close to mine. I donthave as much grey, but, the texture is twinning. Thanks for sharing. I often use sleek n shine line from Garnier. I will only flat iron or re curl my hair twice and then brush it down when it's done being straight. My ionic heat brush usually straightens my hair enough to make it smooth. I very rarely put mousse on my hair after it's straightened. My hair would fight everything coming it's way to pop eight back up into those tight couls. Lol

Karon Dix: GM, hope you are well. I wanted to find out what type of hairdo you would suggest for natural coarse medium length hair. Thank you always for your knowledge and I love your show. I am going to make an appointment with you to have my hair done, possibly October if you have availability

Tamika Davis: I have a pixie and am natural. I go through almost the same process but minus the hot comb. Lasts a good 1.5 weeks if I use a silk scarf. This is only obtainable in the fall, winter and early spring. I have super soft thin hair. I’m trying my hardest not to perm it. Perming it would guarantee a longer lasting style as well as enable me to do my own hair at home. Nonetheless I’ve vowed against perms.

LLP1: Your patience and persistence are admirable. I wonder if straightening and curling wax along with marcel irons would have made a difference.

OhSoMarvalus: You were absolutely correct on the education! I have the exact texture like hers so I know first hand! When I say thick..lawwwd! But I love it. It can depend on how you sweat too tho but considering that heat zone...you are right on point!!! Flat irons make a great difference as well!! 1 press with mine and its laid straight no lie!!

Deborah Johnson: Moving slowly with the flat iron, and a style off the forehead will add to the durability of this change. Bath in moderate temperatures of water will also help. Showering is a no - no until the hair becomes trained. To help train hair style roll hair up with smaller hair rollers and tie hair up after removing rollers for a few moments if rollers cause hair to be too tight.

lucielle09: I definitely agree with what you said, When I use to get styles like this, mines would last no more than 2 or 3 days. I wish the stylist would’ve been more honest and transparent. These styles work best on relaxed hair.

tracy f: Well I really appreciate the knowledge and information shared about this. I wonder what it would have looked like if you would have worked with her natural hair and done a twist out?

OG SMilz: I absolutely love your honesty

OG SMilz: I absolutely love your honesty

huneybunn87: Hello.... You're a master pro with anything hair. Thanks for sharing your knowledge about hair

Natasha Abdullah: That was hectic....but yet your caring and honesty were there as always..... other stylist would have charged more for all this work.... thank you for that as this is a rare thing you get from a stylist, keep doing you♥️

Darchelle Foster: I loved it. Got a lot of info from this. Thanks.

Ashley Castillo: It’s been 3 weeks since I got my natural hair cut and styled. It’s still good, I hit it with the flat iron if it gets moist but I’ve been using a durag when I’m in the house. I went to the Dominicans though and idk if they use different tools/techniques. Essentially she used a blow dryer and flat iron to my curls. I know my hair starts getting frizzy if it’s moist out though and on those days I wish o had a perm

Jo Williams-?: Big facts I barely do leave outs because once I blink I become Big Red from The Five Heartbeats... lol and I've always been like that even when I was getting relaxers...my hair just don't last in curls. Trust me its nothing more embarrassing than walking aroung with two textures hair...well in my case it is... To each its own. So I just wear big curly wigs to blend in my natural hair if need to. Again you are right and great job on trying as well as your honesty... Keep up thr good work...Jah Bless

Bridgette Batts: Thank you posting this video. I have salt & pepper hair and I'm natural. I tell people all the time my hair is stubborn when it comes color because of the gray and thats why I stop coloring my hair. You are telling the truth and I like that. Keep up the good work

Maria: Our hair can be beautiful, but it's a task. I've been natural for 5 years and I don't even bother with the heat, because I know what the outcome will be. It will not last.

Nala wms: Wow I never thought about that, when it comes to short styles on natural hair... ❤❤❤

T Claud: If you could reccomend a short style. I just had a baby and looking for a cut and style that is manageable and low maintenance for natural hair(only looking to flat iron and style on occasions)...I was gonna do a (transitional) pixie cut...but after listening to your video...I decided to inquire your opinion first...

tmreed: My hair is the same way. Also, my hair dresser detangles it, and then it tangles again in two seconds.

Joyce Cunningham: I'm natural and my pixie cut last almost two weeks during the winter months, but during the hot months i don't use any heat.

Annalisha Goring: This information is so good to know. Cheers

jaynel919: Thank you so much for sharing this is reality.

DG: Thank you so much for this info

Nona Yobiz: Taper it...leave nappy on sides and back...leave the top 2 inches long graduated layers...wax the edges. WORKS FOR ME.

Dj Naee: I've been struggling with my natural pixie, and now I know why, damn heat zone lol.

Darnise Jennings: I have a pixie cut and the horse shoe on top of my head is natural because I color that part. I will completely agree that the rain and humidity will ruin that part of my hair.

Itsthehair4me: Thank you ✂️

Shronda Smith: This is one of those times I think a mild perm would have been better because of her hair texture. To pay to get your hair done and it last one day doesn't make sense too me... This ladies hair has to become trained to all the new process...

Paula Carter: Her hair will revert back before she leaves the shop cause still pressing it before she finish the style for the client

Elaine Taylor: Even with a light perm my hair reverts within 2 days, I be like what happened I just get it braided with a weave.

Jae Bea Blessings: Hello Crystal ... Try cutting after the blow out with hot comb. If she is going to where it natura state ( curly) just cut it curly. What you are doing here is wasting your time and process to end up with curly hair. It does need to be straight for a precise cut. My hair is tighter than hers I cut it with clippers today. First time and it is natural and salt and pepper. Just a suggestion. I'll be your model when mine grows out.

Ella Mitchell: there are some stylists who do not have the correct heated implements for afro short hair in terms of size and quality. i have been quoted a price tmfir a procedure only to find because I handed over a note of high denomination was then told that price had increased double the price as she did not want to return my change. she did a poor job and I had to return minus any charges. i always check the products that are used in the salon before booking given some use cheap products and charge high prices. Not all afro hairdressers can manage natural hair and always feel the need to incorporate chemicals that alters the structure of your hair so choose and watch your stylist carefully.

Renita Davis: Textures would been my go to. That heat zone is messy.

B. Nicole: How do you book?

Ray Holloway: Just say you can handle this instead of making it seem more difficult- seems very negative -

Jamie Romero: :),I love your videos, I buy the same one from newigstyle..com two months ago, shipped by Fedex, great quality !!!!!

Amanda Smith: Unbelievable

SignatureStyle: I command. You go girl bc umm no ma'am I would've stopped at the word go that transition looks like alot of work maybe am just lazy

Dee Scott: Having natural hair myself, I would not even bother with such a style. Just wear a wig

Joyce Cunningham: Stop complaining, if that's what the customer wants give it to her.

Bee Silva: I would’ve been like —- I’ll be right back ( w a relaxer)

Joann Byrd: I might have been tempted to put a relaxer in her hair. But it's the customers choice.

Kisha Green: Who wants to pay 85-100$ if not more for a 24hr hair cut? At least you're honest. Just give me the creamy crack.

Phoebe Lovett: That was a good video

Betty Parks: I know this type of hair my hair is turning gray. So I went back to a perm.

Niicole Reenay: We didn’t get to see the finish results

Annie Freeze: Honestly i feel like her model was the wrong person. She use to have locs sooooo her hair hasnt been manipulated in x amount of yrs. So this "honesty" is semi useless. But thanks

FashionSense518: Couldn't you have just used something to bring out her curls instead of trying to style with heat?

Josephine Dunn-Sproul: I have a lot of gray hair, need a Pixie Cut but...have no skill with Flat Irons, also work out so the results would sweat right out I wanted to see the finished product.. I need a style that I can go from the Gym to the Office in half hour, no patience or skill with Flat Irons

Joyce Cunningham: That maked sense

Kia Pal: Well damn is the hot comb even hot ???

Crystal Brisco: Th And you I Am in the same Situation So glad Ad il Saw this before I did it

marcia plump: I had one and it only for that day

Jakya Jones - Student: Ooooo Chile you seem heavy handed.

Gayle Sheppard: I would have tried to ok talked my client into getting a mild relaxer.. or the stylist should have used some curling wax and Marcel irons... I'm not trying to be mean but the really looks bad. I have seen your work but this one is NOT GOOD...

Thais Goodwin: Why didn’t she want a perm? The cut is beautiful but I definitely think she needs a perm

Nitta Vanitta: Omg her hair looks exactly like mine except mine is more gray than hers. I tried to hot comb and flat iron my hair today and it would not curl. I hate it because it wont hold color or a curl, and on top of everything, its thinning at the crown. I want to relax it so bad but it will only make the thinning worse. I'm sick of it!

valeria candida: sou do Brasil e gostaria de saber que goma é que vc usa que modela o cabelo

LaDonna Greham: I think it's very silly and inconsiderate for someone to come in natural with her grade, length, and texture, and expect great results. This is too damn time consuming and tiring... Hell, I'm exhausted just watching

Kia Pal:

Amanda Smith: I work with this type hair constantly an if you use pressing oil it would Have been straight. So again are you a cosmetologist?

Amanda Smith: Are you a cosmetologist
