Welcome or welcome back to my channel in today's tutorial, we will be cutting a salon classic pixie haircut using a combination of round graduation and layering techniques. We start the haircut by assessing the existing haircut. We have a bob haircut with triangular graduation. The existing shape won't compromise my choice to use round graduation we zone or map out our haircut by sectioning, a horseshoe section. The section runs from the crown along the parietal ridge through to the recession in the front fringe area. I start by combing the zone in the opposite direction to my cutting distribution. This helps to control the hair and to work with clean precision. We take a fine diagonal back section using our fingers width as our first cutting guide. Section 2 is directed back to section 1 using the same 45 degree elevation and the same cutting angle. Section three is now directed to section two. We continue to direct every new section back to the previous moving around the head shape. The elevation is cut at 45 degrees straight out from each section. This process builds ground graduation, as we start with shorter lengths in the front as we work around the head shape. The length builds moving towards the parietal ridge and crown areas whilst creating shorter lengths around the hairline. I have chosen to use round graduation over layering, as i personally feel round. Graduation creates a more elevated result for your client when cutting short haircuts. I use my comb to elevate my guide to my new section from underneath. I then comb the new section into my guide from above, to reassess my elevation before cutting when cutting. I slightly move my scissors back every time i close them. This helps to cut a clean line by preventing the scissors from pushing the hair before or whilst it's being cut. This will ensure your cutting lines are cut more accurately. Once we reach the area, we take our section down to the nape continuing our diagonal back sectioning round. Graduation is a great option if your client wants short length in the front and around the ear area working towards longer in the top, and crown this technique is one. You should pay a lot of attention to if you're serious, about mastering short haircuts. Now i am reaching the lower nape area. I am simply connecting the round graduation into the previous triangular graduation, remember to maintain even hydration and tension throughout your haircut. It is crucial to cutting a precision haircut shape. We continue to direct every new section back to the previous section, maintaining a 45 degree elevation gently, placing the section into your fingers without stretching the hair. Your fingers are tools to simply hold the hair in place. Becoming aware of your tension and learning to maintain even tension will help you cut flawless precision haircuts round. Graduation can be used in short, woman's and men's haircuts continue to assess your shape by using your mirror and stepping away from your shape. We want to see a gradual round build-up of weight when cutting round graduation. I flip my hands cutting position to the eastern grip for a more comfortable, accurate approach, stay tuned for an in-depth tutorial dedicated to improving your scissor skills, continue to comb your graduation forwards and backwards, whilst using your mirror to view and assess your work whilst working around The head, so you will notice how round graduation complements your client's head shape, creating a fluid head hugging shape. To be honest, i struggled to learn this haircut remember to take time and have patience with yourself stay focused and determined to continue to grow at your own speed. Don'T compare yourself with anyone else. If you have invested the time to learn here on youtube, you are seriously on the right track to success and to all my loyal subscribers. I appreciate all of your amazing comments of support. You definitely encourage me to continue to evolve and share all i can to help. You fast track your skills. We continue taking diagonal sections until we reach this point. We will complete the back section when our graduation crosses over when we work back to this point from the opposite side. I love how round graduation builds a beautiful soft androgynous shape. This technique is a game changer for your clients who love short hair. We now repeat the same process on the opposite side. Where you choose to start your graduation will determine your shortest length. Graduation is a gradual, build up of length and weight. Graduation is the opposite of layering. Instead of reducing weight, graduation builds weight and shape continue to stand in front of your cutting section. Whilst you move around the head, this helps you to maintain a consistent round shape when sectioning place your index finger on the tip of your comb. Use your finger to add pressure to your comb and when you reach the end of your section, simply utilize this finger to hold the larger section of hair in its place, whilst removing your new section with your comb. These two tips will help you to work with clean, precise sections. You should always aim to work with clean, smart sections, how you approach your hair cutting greatly reflects your style of hairdressing. I am using my smallest comb to maintain greater control of my sections. We continue to lower every new section on top of the previous, as we move back towards the back of the haircut. Continue this process working with clean, fine sections, maintaining even hair hydration and tension focusing on your elevation and your body position moving around the head shape. We are now crossing over to the opposite side. Our sections will be taken the same way as the opposite side. As we cross over. You will see the guide from the opposite side. This process will give us perfect symmetry of how the weight and length is built over the curvature of the occipital bone area. We now flat wrap the graduation into natural fall, simply drying the hair around the head shape preparing the hair for the refining process of our haircut. It'S important to flat wrap as we want the shape to be dried in natural fall with zero root. Lift. This will ensure that we are able to refine the haircut with precision. I start the refining process of the ear area. I start by sectioning the bulk of the hair. I now use point cutting to create a curved line following the hairline by working up towards the top of the ear using a pointing technique will soften the line, creating texture whilst flattening the line. Once we have our guide, we continue the same process with the rest of this section. We continue this process around the hairline until complete. Take your time when point cutting be patient, refining your hairline to avoid any mistakes, i prefer point cutting as it's a softer approach compared to club cutting when refining the haircut. I take this time to observe any mistakes. I could have made and assess how i could approach the haircut better next time make it a habit to assess your work in a constructively critical way. You can learn a lot from our mistakes and trust me. Even the best hair stylists make them once the hairline is complete. We gently go over the shape with scissor over comb. A light dusting helps to clean up any unwanted graduation in our shape. We rest our comb on the shorter lengths as our guide, whilst directing the comb up to the top of the graduation. We focus on carving the shape with our comb, placing our scissors on top of the cone moving straight up the section lifting higher and higher as we move up the head shape scissor over comb polishes our graduation and really helps the shape to pop stay tuned. For a tutorial dedicated to scissor over comb, we now move to the top section in this section. I want to retain as much length in the fringe area whilst connecting the top. With my crown. We take a center part from the crown through to the front hairline. We start this section in the crown we use the length from the crown area as our guide increasing our length as we work towards the front. We cut every section on base following this guide until the top section is complete. We continue to take vertical sections. Cutting a triangular layered shape, the top section will connect through the crown area and will be disconnected with the side sections. Once the hair is dry, you will see how the top seamlessly blends into the sides the disconnection helps to avoid unwanted bulk in the parietal ridge area. I have chosen to use vertical sectioning, as i find it to streamline the top section as apposed to horizontal sections that create width. Now we move to the fringe area. I'Ve decided to cut a side sweepy fringe. We cut our guide on the side. We want the fringe to fall. This helps to remove bulk and aid the fringe to fall with a side sweepy effect. We now direct and cut every section. At this stationary guide, we now wrap dry, the top into natural form, preparing the top for the refining process. Now we have cut our fringe, we refine and personalize the length we do this by combing, the fringe to each side, refining the line with a point cutting technique. If you value my work, do me a massive favor and hit the like button and subscribe? So you don't miss any new tutorials, i'm now using a technique called channel cutting this helps to remove bulk from the interior of the shape. We now refine the top section by elevating each section straight up at 90 degrees point cutting deep into each section. This helps to remove excess bulk and also creates texture and movement in our shape. Once your haircut looks great without product. You know, the refining process is complete. I'M now styling with a dry texture powder, applying the powder to the root area and gently, creating texture to accentuate the shape, stay tuned for triangular and square graduation tutorials coming soon.
