It what's up guys Steven a salon got here and I've gotten a lot of requests to do a short pixie haircut on curly curly hair. So, as you can see, I've got a mannequin right here next to me - and this is like super super curly hair - I mean really really tight curls. So I'm going to do a makeover on this. I'M gon na do a pixie cut, just like you've been asking. So I'm ready to go. Let'S get started all right, so the first thing I'm going to do to save myself some time is I'm going to cut all this hair off right here. It'S all coming off! It'S all going to go short! So just save me some time just chop it all right off here we go all right believe or not. This actually looks like a pretty good haircut. Just like this all right so now, what I'm do is we're going to go really really short. I'M going to go around the ear, we're going to cut this really tight and make it kind of fun as well all right. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to just cut a straight line down here in the hairline in the nape just to make sure that it's all even and balanced, because we did cut it in the ponytail. I'M not even a point until we cut it all in one shot, so this is going to naturally make the corners longer. So I'm doing is just evening this out, so it's well balanced and straight across here. Okay, so now we're going to do is we're going to pull everything out from the head 90 degrees, okay right here in the nape, and we're going to cut downwards and we're cutting it to where it's about, let's say an inch and a half in length and We'Re going to continue this pattern throughout the whole back and we can push this hair out of the way and we're going to go in panels start from the center, then working towards the left and then working towards the right. So, for the most part, this should be pretty straightforward and simple to follow and the thing about curly hair, especially when you're trying to cut it really really short, is if you cut it short enough, you'll actually cut most of the curl out and it will lay Down a little more Italy differently than if you had it a little bit longer like this length right now, so the the longer it is, the more the curl you're going to see the cruel, but the shorter it is what's going to happen is obviously it's not Going to curl up as much and it's going to be kind of like a shorter kind of wave, barely a wave just a little bit of movement in it, and that's that's the thing about curly, hair and pixie cuts is, if you want to keep some of That cruel, then leave it a little bit longer just kind of like this. Actually you can leave it like that, but then you have to figure out we're going to do on the sides we're going to do in the back. The top I mean everything, so you know since we're going relatively shorter on this. I am taking it a bit shorter, so it's not going to be curling up as much it's going to be a little more of like a wave okay. So now I'm just going back in and I'm cutting everything now just horizontally, just a cross-check to make sure it's all even and all balanced and cross-checking is something you always want to do. To make sure that you're on track and at your balance, because if not and you skip it, you're going to end up having to go back and cut a lot of hair, I'm going to switch body positions and I'm going to cut above my knuckles. This way, here's my guide from before and now we're going to cut up this way, I'm just doing it, I'm cutting upwards, because it's easier for my my body positioning, I'm not putting my shoulders my arms or anything in an awkward position. I can come over and cut this way and I probably do that towards the bottom half of this. But what happens is if you put yourself in an uncomfortable position and you that's too high holding upon the palm it's just going to be very, very uncomfortable. So you really want to put yourself in a position to where you're going to feel comfortable when you're cutting that's one very, very whether you're doing here for 10 years or one year body positioning is everything. Okay, that's really really crucial to your success and also for your physically for your physical health, because you don't, you know, make yourself a carpool terror, a muscle believe or not. I'Ve torn muscle, a shoulder muscle, cutting and bloat. I'M not cutting blow-drying once and it was not fun all right. So now we're going to push this hair out of the way and we're working again in the back area. And now what we're going to do is we're coming straight out and we're cutting upwards, and you can also reverse that if you want pull it straight out and cut palm the palm cutting upwards this way, but we're at that point where again, the body positioning is Starting to feel a little bit unnatural because I have to lift my left shoulder up a little bit higher pointing towards the ceiling, and it puts me in so almost an awkward state. That'S why I'm still doing it, because it's not as much of an awkward State. It'S still okay, but here is where I'm going to come over now palm the palm, because my body positioning now feels a lot more comfortable cutting into this corner in through here. So you can see so the best way to do this is palm the palm meaning. A palms are facing each other that is going to allow you to get also a little bit closer as well, because you can put your fingers rest them right against the nape. We'Re just going to continue to work upwards, we're getting closer to the ear area right behind the ear and just go back in and you can cross check even cutting the opposite way. So now I'm going back in palm the palm right in the back and cross checking. Now you can cross check simply by cutting the opposite way or the opposite direction. You just cut. So if I cut this way, I'm going to cross check going the other way, which will actually the hair will, if anything's off or uneven or longer it'll jump right out at you, so you'll be able to cut it. So here now I'm cross-checking a horizontally in the back and everything is matching up. Thank God! Hey! Let'S get this right in the corner here and because it's curly hair you're going to see hair just kind of flying all over the place, all right. So now we're working up now towards the top back of the head, almost really right, where the occipital bone is right in through here and now we're going to continue now with our body positioning going upwards. This way cutting on barnacles all right. So I just want to show you guys a little bit of a view further back, so you can see so right now, I'm cutting over my knuckles like this, so my left elbow is on top this way. If I was cutting palm the palm what's going to happen, is I'm throwing this way up like this, and now I'm putting my coming over the top look at my body positioning all right, it makes me feel very uncomfortable because I'm throw I'm stretching my back out In an unnatural position, so now all I'm doing it's facing this way literally, my body is basically parallel to the section I'm cutting and you're going to be in a much more comfortable physical body position, and I highly highly suggest doing this and your body will tell You as well when you're when you're at that point where something doesn't feel right, just switch your body pushing around and you'll, be surprised on the difference and also it'll help improve your cutting. It will improve how you feel while you're cutting - and it's also again it's better for your body all right. So what I'm doing here is really literally I'm just coming around following the guide from everything that was cut before now, we're right behind the ear we're going to take this relatively shorter around the ear. But again, what we're doing is matching our guide from underneath, which was relatively short, not super super short, but we're at about an inch and a half to two inches or so right in through here. But now I'm pulling the hair towards me this way and now I'm cutting over it because I want I am going to get a little bit closer in through here. So what this is doing is it's making sure that this is all nice and tight right in through the hairline in through here, because, if you don't, you can have all these long hairs coming out. So now we're going to go back. We finish that side comb. This hair out of the way you don't need to use Clips, if you want to that's fine but as you can see, I'm not using any clips because sometimes Clips end up taking a lot more extra time than needed in a haircut alright. Now, as you can see, we're just following same pattern: cutting up and we're going to continue this all the way until we get to the corner, alright, so hopefully you're following along well with me - and I know this can be somewhat intimidating with curly hair. But you just have to really really go for it and don't be afraid to do it. You know a lot of times if you just feel you just go with your your confidence and you go with how comfortable you feel and you have that vision go go for it, a lot of time to get held back, and we don't want to do it Of fear, I say just eliminate that fear and don't even think about it. So here we are now in the corner, all right and now I'm pulling it combing it straight towards me this way down towards the hairline here and we're cutting it. So we can get that shorter length right around the ear area, because we don't want it super super long around the ear and we don't want it too heavy around here as well. So it's okay to go back in double-check, make sure everything is balanced and now again we can go back and cross-check coming over it all right now. My body position is so the same like this. Now I'm just cutting the other way. I'M cutting vertically going this way where, as I went up that way - and you can even comb it and pull it straight out this way right and as you can see, it's well-balanced and even which is what we're looking for. All right so now we're going to go into the top back right through here right in this area and then we're going to start to create the shape on the top of the head all right. This is a very crucial part in the haircut, because here's where we're going to decide on what the top is going to do and what I want to do is I want to continue the shape go in from shorter right in through here and keeping it pretty Consistent going in through the front area right through here, but I do want to take the front a little bit shorter and create almost like. You know a little bit of a fringe and that's going to happen naturally because of the length that we're cutting this all right. This is going to naturally create a fringe, so say that, for example, this whole haircut in the back right here and going towards the front is maybe an inch and two inches or so or three inches well. Think about how long someone's fringe or bangs are going to be. You know that could be about three inches or so all right, because so you're actually going to naturally create a bang or fringe just by cutting this haircut and that always works well with curly hair. I like to give them an option to be able to either you know, wear it back where over to the side wear it forward. I mean you know. That'S a good thing about these types of cuts is that you want to give clients options all right, styling options. If you want to go super super short and buzz, you know buzz it really tight. You can do that as well, but it's always good some. I always fill sometimes with shorter hair that you can have more styling options, believe it or not in some scenarios. So now I'm just once again. A lot of this is cut and cross-check cut cross-check make sure everything is bit well balanced. So now we've got this in through here. This is the length now right on the top. Alright, this is the length on the top. So now what we have to do is we have to now connect this with everything else. So what we're going to do is we're now going to work towards the here's, the front of the face right here and we're going to work towards the front now, because we have our guide from before it's going to make it easier for us to continue that Shape moving forward, because that's what that back piece! That'S when we connected that's what that was for all right a lot of times. People will just take this right off the bat and cut this straight across. Where that's going to do is that's going to create like a harsh line, alright, and then you got to go back in and blend it all in well, we were past that now we already skipped out on that and cut that before. So we don't have to worry about the back now now we're working in towards the top, and that's why I like to work going from bottom up this way, because this is already left out. If we start messing with this again, then we're finished we're going to create more cuts on top of cuts, which we already did so I'm basically keeping the horizontal straight across all right. Keeping my body positioning level you wan na make sure that your left arm is parallel to your sectioning as well. You don't want to drop down that left elbow because, what's going to happen, is that old me? If you drop down your arm like this you're going to cut this way, if you lift up you're going to cut upwards, which is creating short longer, we want to keep everything balanced and even so now we're getting probably closer to one more section in the front And, as you can see, I'm not touching the corners. Yet I'm not. I haven't even touched the side, I'm literally just staying right in through the front, because why? Because I want to keep balanced - and I want to keep organized being organized in haircutting - is very, very crucial - all right so now we're in the very front and comb it up and there's the guide from underneath now a lot of hair is going to be coming Off right here in the front, all right a lot of hair and don't be afraid because remember we are cutting a pixie cut and we are transforming this now. What'S going to happen, is by pulling this straight up, let's get it's going to leave some length in the front because we're over directing straight up, which means we're going to have to go back in the front and cut that a bit shorter, which is totally totally Fine all right, but we're pulling it straight up like this, which means it's going to over direct and come longer this way, so now that the top is done, okay, I'm liking how the top is looking right in through here. What we're going to now is we're going to cut this around the ear now and work in through the sides we're going to start right in the back and we're going to pick up where we left off. So now we're basically around the corner area right in through here - and this is a really really simple pattern to follow and we're doing is we're picking up into the corner piece, pulling it straight out. We'Re keeping everything 90 degrees because we're following the head shape and then we're going to angle our fingers downwards like this and now cut it closer towards the ear simple, simple pattern now here we are see right above the ear, pull it straight out and there's a Guide, we're going to follow, follow around the head shape, and this is you know, becomes after you do this so many times, you're, probably like. Oh, it's just a normal pattern seems I'm not doing anything, but that's what you want. You don't want to make. This super complicated, you know you want to create your base shape. First, make sure everything has a good flow good pattern to it. Then you can always go back in and reshape everything. So, as you can see, we're getting closer to the front and everything is matching up which you want, everything is going to match up right in through here and then you can go back in which we're going to have to do alright. Look at all this hair. It'S coming off. This is right into the front area right here. It'S a lot of hair coming off in the front, but don't be afraid because it needs to come off and then you can go back in and cut those any longer pieces. So now we've got this left over right into here. It depends on what we're going to do now to create this shape right in through here. Do you want to go shorter? Do you want to leave a little bit of length? You know it really depends. So let's take this and we're going to cut upwards just a little bit and we'll leave a little bit of hair right around the ear area, to give some like to give some softness and some styling options right in through here. So, let's see how this looks so you've got this shape done and that look. It'S a really really nice balanced, pixie cut on this side. We'Ve totally created a nice shape. It'S still got a little bit of curl to it a little bit of wave to it, and now we've got to work into this side. Now, what's going to happen, is look at this? This looks kind of cool, let's spin us around, so we used to see what we have so far. So now we have to work on this side of the head and what we're going to do is the same exact thing which we did on this side. But now I'm going to stand right in front of the mannequin and I'm going to follow the same pattern, I'm standing in front of the mannequin and because of body positioning okay, my elbow is once again right in through here I'm not putting myself in an uncomfortable Awkward position and I would feel it right away if I had this mannequin and in a direction where I had to come over this way, I'd be very, very uncomfortable and it just would not feel good. So again, it's all about body positioning. So here we are in the corner and now working towards the ear right above the ear area and here's that one piece in through here there we go and now we've got probably one or two more pieces right into the front to blend in now again, what We'Re doing is we're blending in and connecting that's what all this is remember, you're going to keep a solid shape. You want to keep that silhouette going and you want to keep everything balanced. The key is to remain balanced throughout your haircut. Then you can go back in and change it up. You can shatter it out. You can do anything. You want to do so. Here'S this right in through here this piece. Now we're left with the front so we'll get back to the front a little bit, but now we're going to go back right in through here the side - and I mentioned I'm going to cut this straight across right in through here, just like it. On the other side, but I still want to leave a little bit of length if you want to cross check, you can go in and cross check again to make sure it's all even and cross checking will help you see if there's any longer pieces and when I say longer pieces: I mean pieces that just don't match up with the haircut. You know like if this piece is like three inches longer than then it means as it gets rough. So here here's a couple little pieces that I missed, which is totally fine, so you're gon na go back in and cut them, there's nothing wrong with it. It'S totally fine, and by doing this really really helps improve your cutting skills, don't ever be afraid to go back in and recut. Okay, don't ever be afraid of. Do that so now we're combing this towards the front. Let'S take a look at what we have in the very very front. We'Ve got this piece right into here now. I think I want to leave a little bit of length right in through here, but remember we have this shorter piece here and we've got this shorter piece here. So what we need to do is pick up where that was left off and now, let's cut upwards on an angle, to match this side and to connect it. So we'll have a little bit of a slight angle, going short to longer on this one side, and now what I'm doing is I'm just combing all this forward to make sure it's not so heavy right into the front hairline all right. This is softening it up and making sure it's all. Even so, here's what it's going to look like when it's all combed straight down and here's where you can kind of shatter it out a little bit, and so it creates a nice kind of cute, somewhat different angle right into the front here. So you can. It allows you to style it a little bit longer like this and gives you some flexibility as well. It can also kind of scrunch it back and leave a little bit of a fringe right into the front there, the new, so you can kind of bring back and tuck behind the ear if you want to so now. What I want to do is go in now and create a little more texture in this, and we can do that by I'm. Just simply going to take my shear and you've seen me: do this on straight hair as well, but I'm doing it now on curly hair and I'm just going in and chipping into it like it's just having some fun being creative and all these little pieces are Going to add movement to the hair, all right, it's going to break up that heaviness, so it's not so heavy with the curl, because that's what you want this to be wants it to be very loose and fun. You want it to have a lot of movement and texture to it, and that's a great thing about this is that you can have creative freedom, especially with curly hair. You can really go in there and shatter it out and really have a lot of fun with it. I believe it or not guys we're pretty much finished. We'Re done, I think, with the haircut and this this really didn't take too long. You know this was really really easy rules fun, as you saw before it was really really curly. I know I've been talking non-stop for the last like 20 minutes or so, but I want to do a step by step, because a lot of you guys want to see this and you like, when I do more in-depth tutorials like this. So I'm just going to put some finishing touches on here and then we'll talk about a few ways head of stylus alright. So the first thing I'm going to use is my title: wave sea salt volumizing sprite. Now this is probably the most amazing sea salt spray. I'Ve ever used, I'm not saying it because it's mine, but the thing about this and you know if you use sea salt sprays, they end up feeling really grimy and crunchy and over almost to sea salty. You feel like you're, coming out of the jersey shore alright, so this not only smells phenomenal like this literally smells like you think, you're in like the Bahamas, or something like that. It'S such a clean, amazing, fragrance men and women can use this. So you want to want to use a spray that you can literally let air dry and it will dry right into place and especially with curly hair, you don't want to mess with it too much. Alright, you don't want to brush it out. You don't want to create any sort of. You know, roughing of the hair, because, what's going to happen, is it's going to mess up the curl, so that's one option that you can do and you can just literally just leave it. The second option is this: is my cream called power cream and also again, it's good for volumizing, but it's good for control and also for locking and curls. So if you have wavy hair - and you want something - that's going to really have a stronger hole to it, especially for guys, then you can use this as well and will really really help control the hair. So you want to work it in like this and then now you're, just going to literally go in there and scrunch everything out and really start to apply and apply this to this product in the hair and here's where you go in and really really curl it. So here once the products all in the hair, then it's all about scrunching it. But again you want to be very, very careful, okay, you want it to scrunch and let it go scrunch and let it go. You don't want to rough up the hair, because it's curly, you want to be very, very kind of loose and scrunch it, because that's going to keep it's, not it's going to keep prevented from frizzing, and that's the one thing that's great about this product is that Once you scrunch it in it's going to stay there all right. This is couple more little pieces right into here and then I think, we'll be good to go all right. I'M going to spin this around so here is the back. This is all about I'd, say an inch and a half to two inches going in through here, three inches, the most probably all the way through out here. It'S all balanced and all cut proportionately, and then here we left a little bit longer around the ear area. Just to give it a little bit of softer texture, if you want, if you know you wanted your client or yourself to pull down a little bit we're going to keep going around this way. Obviously this is a mannequin, so it's going to lay a little bit differently same thing on this side, a little bit longer piece, and then you want a little bit longer going towards the longest point right here on a slight angle, just to give a little bit Of texture, but I think this looks awesome and I really hope you guys enjoyed the tutorial thanks. So much for watching and I'll see you guys soon, a move over a little bit. Huh and I'll see you guys next time for more tutorials, with a song guy

Claudia Lacoskie: Thank you! I just did my mom's hair and it turned out so! good. She was not satisfied with the recent hair cut she had and by studying your tutorial, I did it! You are an amazing teacher!

Valle: I'm going to attempt to cut my 73-year-old mom's hair since she can't go to a salon right now given the pandemic (and I wouldn't let her even if she were in a state where they were open). I have NEVER done this before. This looks like her texture and I'm really liking the details you're giving in this tutorial. Hoping for the best for both our sakes!

2LIVCREATE: Awesome!! It's because of your very concise instructions, I now believe that I CAN execute this cut! Thanks for posting!!!! ✂

Medusa Gorgon: Thanks for the video! My daughter has super thick, curl hair and we've had zero luck with salons! These are trained professionals. Why go into the business if you can't do all hair types.

Chelsea Bartlett: Just used this video to do my mom's hair she's 63. It's the best cut she's had!!! Looks so fabulous. Thank you!

Marty Baldwin: I’ve been using this tutorial to cut my own hair. It’s given me the basic technique and then I can make slight changes to suit myself.

Verokee: Loved it! I'm growing my pixie and that haircut probably will fit.

Amy Miller: I just want to say thank u my mom is bed ridden I watched ur tutorial n cut her hair n it came out amazing u have helped me alot thank u!!!

Zoe English: Thankyou! This really helped me envision what I would look like with this haircut and I do love it! I am thinking about going for an undercut now but i'm not sure if I'll be able to pull it off

Renata Santos: This video helped a lot! thanks man you do an amazing job. Take care :)

Miyeko Yoshimi: Hey, I think you're great btw! Since the Corona pandemic my 73 yr old mom needs some work done on her unruly hair. She's always worn it short. As short as a pixie cut but she's got thick curly red hair. Im an amateur and play around with it. Id love to see a tutorial for women in their 70 + who still got it. Lots of women cut their hair very short. I want to surprise her with a haircut. I already have red hair dye, just need to know how to do it. Not sure if you even read these or take random request to do specific cuts/styles for your fans. Again, that was a great tutorial, I already learned something ‍♀️

TheJohasir: Thank you very much, finally l did it by myself (l'm curly hair) at home. You are a great teacher. Regards from Milan ♡♡♡

Cindy L.: my hair looks like that when it's wet but when it's dry it's super puffy

Brenda Lucian: That's an adorable haircut- it reminds me of the black wig Lucille Ball tried on in an episode of I Love Lucy.If I were going to cut my hair short,it would be this haircut.

Kristel Jimenez: Desde hace tiempo he querido cortarme el pelo así, pero no lo he hecho por miedo a que no se vea tan bien porque mi cabello es muy rizado. Pero usted me convenció :D me encantó el vídeo muchas gracias!

George H.: When I asked for a pixie cut from my hair dresser ( with the same texture as your mannequin) she said it couldn't be done. I now understand that she was probably inexperienced. What terms would I use t o describe a curly pixie cut more easily to a stylist?

Gabriele Benden: well my twin and me have natural curly hair, so always look for videos, and we got to this one, we just could not stop laughing, the cut got worse and worse, first we thought it was satire, but it obviously was not..... we definitely would not come to you but you gave us a good time laughing.....

Rohan Phillip: That's exactly how my hair is..when dry gets all puffy

Blake Nightshade: Well I think I might get my hair cut like this after my buzz cut grows in. There's not really a whole lot of guides on how to help women with curly hair grow out their buzz cuts.
