Years later come to find out we had the same hair type but the shrinkage was making a huge difference. And I mean like her hair would shrink to her arm pit and my hair would shrink to my neck but separate the curls and you can literally see that the hair type is the same. Due to me having a lot more shrinkage, my hair would get matted a lot faster, and would have a bit more breakage because it wasn’t as manageable as hair [even with the same texture] with way less shrinkage. So because of that, I got the relaxer and she didn’t. Granted the relaxer didn’t take in my hair [it was under processed from time to time so when I decided to go natural my hair reverted back in a matter of months. I’d say 4 at that. No big chop needed.] Mind you this revelation as of today came to use like weeks ago when we were both looking in the mirror after church and saying “bro we literally have the same hair” and sure enough we did. I was able to grow my hair, not to the same length as my sister because I’ll be honest as much as I love long hair the maintenance behind it is something I don’t think I can do. It’s all about patience and learning what your hair loves. ❤
