Setting up hey guys, it's Lisette here and in today's video I'm finally doing the very highly requested video how I grew my hair. I honestly think this is the longest that my hair has been in my entire life. So let's talk about it. What did I do? Are there any tips and tricks a lot of these tips? You may know already, you may not know, but this is just what worked for me: make sure that you click the link in the description to check out all my favorite curly hair products, and so, let's get straight into it. If you've been following me for a while, you know the journey that I have been on. It was my dream. Ever since I went natural to have my hair blonde and I finally achieved it, I was pretty good at maintaining my blonde, but I realized that my hair never really got past shoulder length. My roots would grow in, but then my hair would be here. I'M just like, if my roots are growing, how is my hair not getting longer like things just weren't making sense, and that's when I realized that a lot about hair growth is about retaining length? My hair was growing out my scalp, but it was staying around the same length because my hair was breaking off. My hair damage was really showing towards the end of 2019 and in 2020 with quarantine and everything. That'S when I really started to try to really get my hair healthy, because I realized like it's not looking cute. It'S not I'm, not happy. It'S not looking cute. Something has to change. So if you're, not keeping those ends looking healthy, you will eventually have breakage. So, as you can see, obviously I'm not blonde anymore, and all of this is my natural hair grown from my scalp, no color, nothing. Ironically, I feel like what has helped my hair grow. The most has been trimming, my hair. If your hair is damaged, there's only so much you can do. I wanted to start fresh and, to be honest, I haven't had my hair healthy and natural and curly. Since I was like 11 years old, I completely stopped coloring, my hair. I get a professional trim twice a year, but in between I'm doing my own at-home trim, I style my hair and I apply a lot of gel like I apply a lot of product, so I can really Clump My Curls and really get my hair super defined. So I can see how the curls naturally want to Clump. Together, I dry my hair and I dry it in a more elongated State, not worried about volume, not worrying about anything else, but just trying to get the curls to really be defined. And then I go curl by curl and any ends that look weird or super thin or just they're. Looking see-through I'll take some scissors and I just snip it. I'Ve realized the power of cutting your hair, don't be afraid of the scissors. Go at your own pace. You don't have to do like a big chop or anything I just snipped off, I would say a half an inch every two months. I realized that I had to cut off the damage to be able to move forward. Listen to your hair everybody's always trying to tell you like what to do and don't use this and use this and don't use a cream and use a cream and use the oil. Don'T use oil if it's not following a rule or whatever I do. What works for me, it's all about learning, your hair learning, your textures, your hair, porosity, if you're protein sensitive, so I highly suggest that you start to learn and understand your hair and your scalp. When I shampoo, I used to just shampoo like the scalp and then it's like okay, I'm done now. I shampoo twice so the first time I just Target my scalp and the second time I bring the shampoo all the way down cleansing. All of my hair. I want the strands to be clean. I want everything to be clean and fresh so that when I'm doing my curly hair routine, I have a completely clean sleep and I wash my hair once a week every 5 to seven days. It really depends on the shampoo as well. If it's a really clarifying shampoo, then I would only do it once, but if it's more like a gentle shampoo I'll, definitely do it twice every time I shampoo. I always make sure that I deep condition every single time and the thing is like I'm: a lazy natural hair girly. I like to use my hair mask in the shower after I shampoo and just use that in replace of conditioner, depending on how my hair is feeling is what type of mask that I'll use. So I deep condition every single week every single time. I shampoo. I just leave it in my hair tie my hair up, so it's like in my hair for like a good 10-15 minutes and honestly, I feel like it gets the job done so and of course I always use a microfiber towel to dry my hair once a Week before I wash my hair I'll also do a scalp massage with some oil just really massaging and bringing that blood flow to my scalp, and I feel, like that's, helped a lot too. I'Ve also decided for the meantime to completely cut out heat. I'M not a curly hair girl, that's going to be like, don't ever straighten your hair. If you want to straighten your hair straighten, your hair just know just know that every time you straighten your hair, it is a gamble. I'Ve straightened my hair in the past and my hair has been completely fine, but this last time I could see that my hair wasn't the same. It didn't feel the same. The curls were acting weird. They were going different directions. Just understand that every time you straightening your hair, you are gambling with your curls. Also when I'm detangling my hair, I'm very, very gentle I put the product through, I feel for Tangles. I kind of break them up with my fingers gently and then I start the detangling process. I really like using like a detangling brush, one where the bristles are really really just flexible and soft, and it just makes the tangling super super easy. I'M personally not tender headed, but if you're watching this video and you are - or you have kids that are tender headed, this is the direction to go. I find that, like the flexible, brushes, just allow you to detangle your hair without really ripping it out. Hear me hear me out here: low tension, hairstyles it's a hard one. It'S a hard one. I'M not gon na say that I never ever ever do a slickback style, but it's been a while and it's more like a rare kind of special occasion, type situation. So I love my slick back ponytails and my slickback buns. I love them, but I started to notice the very very back like towards my nape that there was like hair missing. There was like a chunk of hair gone. I was getting a haircut and I saw that my hair just had like this hole in the middle. That'S the exact spot that I'm tightening my ponytails and I have my buns right back here and I have a hole missing. You know you take it out quickly or you pull it or you're, using those like small little elastics, and sometimes that kind of snags, your hair and truthfully the less manipulation the better. I am a satin scrunchie girly and I use them for everything I use them for half up half down. I use them to go to sleep. I use them for ponytails. When I would go to the gym. I would always do like a really tight, top-not bun or like a fan bun and now I just use a satin scrunchie and I do like a low ponytail or like a cute little half up half down moment every night. I also use a satin pillow case and a satin scrunchie. I don't use a bonnet or a satin scarf, which I might have to start implementing as my hair gets longer. But as of right now, I just put my hair into a loose bun with the satin scrunchie on the satin pillowcase, and I'm good. It'S all about preventing that friction. When you sleep, especially like around your edges, if you're having like a cotton pillowcase when you move you're having a lot of friction and that can create a lot of breakage, these are my personal beliefs. Okay, I've had blonde hair. I'Ve had colored hair I've had it all you name it. I'Ve done it when you lighten your hair, your hair changes. So I know that there's going to be people and stylists trying to tell me that you can have healthy hair and have it be lightened, I'm not going to say that you can't, but the structure of your hair has changed so there has been damage it. Just matters on how you can maintain your hair if you can't keep the maintenance up you're going to see some damage, my hair, the way that it feels compared to how my hair felt when it was blonde, it is completely different. It'S smoother. My hair just feels healthier juicier, the curls like they absorb product better, so I'd recommend. If you really want your hair to grow and you really want inches, I personally would recommend no bleach, no bleach. This next tip is a little weird, but it's something that I've been doing and it's just practicing letting my hair be letting my hair just be and exist and not feeling like it has to be manipulated, 24 7 products. And this and that, like washing my hair, letting it air dry and just letting it be letting there be frizz, I just completely have my hair for at least a few hours, if not overnight, nothing in it, natural, completely clean and fresh, and also when I first Was doing this, my hair was really really frizzy, but, as I've been taking care of my hair, I let my hair air dry and the curls actually start to Clump. So it shows me that the hair still has definition without having product in it, because there is curls that are forming because they're healthy curls. I don't know if there's any science behind it, but it's something that I've implemented within the past two years. I want to say - and I feel like it's definitely made a difference. To be honest, the real secret is the less that you do. The more inches you're gon na have keep it healthy. Keep your scalp clean, keep your hair moisturized! That'S when you're going to start seeing results so yeah. Those are all my tips. I hope that you guys like this video and if you did please make sure to give me a big thumbs up subscribe to my channel. If you haven't already and I'll see you guys in my next one bye,

Mel Ho.Martínez: No color. Trim regularly, curl by curl. Learn your hair. Shampoo once or twice, depending on shampoo. Deep condition weekly. Microfiber towel. Scalp massage with oil. No heat. Detangle GENTLY. Flexible soft bristles are best. Low manipulation hairstyles. Silk or Satin scrunchies! Along with pillowcases. Let your hair be. Give it a few hours or overnight post wash to just chill.

Amor Antasia: Your natural hair color is just gorgeous on you! The best color

Alexandria: Everything she said works ! My hair is at mid back length when straightened. I quit bleaching. Leave it in a loose bun 5 days a week (because I work from home). Only straighten and trim 1-2 times a year. Shampoo and condition once a week and my hair has CHANGED. Even my friends and family noticed when they see me how healthy my hair is. The secret is really low manipulation and time

A L: Girl your hair looks so healthy and gorgeous . Definitely going to keep these tips in mind for my daughter

ashlynne paige: I haven’t bleached my hair in a year and can see a difference in the thickness and softness of my hair. It still isn’t long because I’ve been slowly cutting off all of the dead part. I can’t wait for it to be long

Avaylah Kin: You’d be so surprised about the simplest of things that can help your hair grow healthier. Thanks for the tips girl & keep posting we always miss you sis

Fay-Ann Olivia: I love these tips. My hair got to its longest when I stopped bleaching it, did trims and let it be.

jennifer ramirez: Kudos to you for sharing this message with us. We need to learn and understand our own unique needs for our hair.

Ananda: This is why I love your channel so much! So many great tips. I also noticed my hair wouldn’t grow past my shoulders whenever I first went on my healthy hair journey. I did everything: I ate right, drink water everyday, do protective styles and use satin bonnets/pillow cases and I still couldn’t get it to grow. My hair is definitely healthier than what it use to be BUT I still have really dry hair especially in the winter and I’m also, still struggling to to this day, to find a very moisturizing product that lasts more than 3-4 day’s moisture wise. So that means I’m constantly having to touch and take down my hair from the protective style just to keep it hydrated and I feel like I cause breakage by doing that. My New Year’s resolution was to get my hair past shoulder length and this video is very helpful. Although we have different hair types, I feel these steps can be used for anyone with curly hair so imma give it a try but first I need to find a moisturizer or deep leave in conditioner full of butters or make my own if I have to.

Jahné Tiana: Literally here since day 1. We have the same hair type, you helped mine become so long & healthy ❤

Jazmin Jordan: Amazing tips! Your length retention looks amazing! I want my hair to get this long. I need some satin scrunchies.

Naturally Brittney: Love this video so much! & all these tips are great. I want to add one more that I notice A LOT of curly girls do not do & it is a REAL game changer. Adding heat to your deep conditioning routine weekly will work wonders on your hair!!! Yes,! Invest in a heating cap & doing it consistently over time you’re not only going to see growth with your hair, but the health of your hair will be out of this world. I have been deep conditioning with heat since I was a little girl & I can attest to the fact that my hair stayed healthy through all types of stuff. I was platinum blonde at one point as you can see in my profile & I had NO damage that’s right NO damage & I accredit that to me applying heat on my deep conditioning like clock work again since I was a child. Definitely gotta tap into that.

Heidi V: My 11 y/o has waist length curly hair, and it's so thick that I can't get my hand wrapped around it all. I swear it's because I didn't do the tight braids and slicked styles. She was uncomfortable in them and I have never been good to braid, so it's been a lot of loose ponytails for her. Now she has more hair than we know how to properly handle!! and it's soooo gorgeous.

Olivia: Hey lisette, thank you for this tips for hair growth because growing your hair can take forever so this definitely helps thank you again

missmia196: Please help us with more low tension hairstyles!

n y a h: I've always followed any hair routine you've had for yearsssss, so yeah I'm utilizing these tips!

Mariah Stewart: finally someone who will admit, bleaching and lightening your hair CHANGES it and not always for the better. i had such curly hair until i started lightening it and i only did it because all my hairdresser friends said you just gotta moisturize it and it won’t be unhealthy after bleaching it but that was a DAMN lie my hair never curled the same idek what happened but my hair texture changed and even felt different like more brittle. tired of these ppl saying you can achieve light blonde hair without having to chop it all off because that ain’t the reality for everyone

Sam Trahan: Girl your hair. You are legit my curly hair idol. And you helped validate my own love for my curls. Love following you

m'rabet nadine: Hello everyone I just wanted to add to what she said that personally I’ve been doing these tips for years since I was 14 yo and yes they do work I have really good hair but this last year my hair was thinning out a lot and I realised it’s due to my low iron so yeah if someone is on the same situation don’t forget to check your iron levels☺️

Bev: NOTE: 1. stop coloring your hair; trim your hair once / twice a year 2. listen to your hair (use products that works for you) 3. shampoo twice; wash every 5-7 days 4. deep condition your hair! 5. use a microfiber towel 6. scalp massage before washing 7. cut out heat 8. detangle your hair 9. low tension hair (the less manipulation, the better) 10. use satin scrunchie 11. also a satin pillow case 12. no bleach 13. let your hair be (without products after washing) 14. the less that you‘re gonna do, the more inches you‘re gonna have ( keep it healthy, keep your scalp stay clean, keep your hair moisturized)

Talia Loves: The second I saw this video I clicked so fast! I would love to see “Week in my hair” video to see how you style on a weekly basis.

Kiara Renee`: Let me TELL you. I can relate with the not seeing my natural hair since 11 I first put color in my hair when I was 12. I became obsessed. That was in 2014. The last time I dyed my hair was back in 2021 and that’s when I got it professionally done (and I couldn’t get the color I wanted because of the damage from the other dyes I did to myself so I had to get brown). I big chopped back in 2016. Added heat, always wore two cornrows until my hair grew longer and ALWAYS up until 2019 wore slick back buns. Dyed my hair every few months to the point that my friend asked me if blonde was my natural color because he’d never seen me in anything else. Stopped wearing buns in mid 2019 and just started wearing puffs or my hair out and it was better but when Covid hit, I stopped. I still was constantly dyeing my hair but being on lockdown and not in school I could just wear my hair in twists or braids under a scarf or my bonnet and call it a day. But my hair never really passed shoulder length. Graduated HS 2020 and got my hair straightened and she cut off maybe an inch of ends but my hair was at my shoulders. Didn’t get it. But my hair grew a lot in that time frame. Fast forward I dyed my hair like two times in lockdown and once after. I also bleached it that year . 2021 came and I got my hair professionally straightened and it was almost mid back. The LONGEST my hair had been while straight. I dyed it two more times and then I permed it ???? March 2022 came and I cut it all off. Big chopped again. Got box braids twice and just wore wigs or a scarf. Let me say. My hair. Now. Is long. I mean it’s short but for it to have been almost a year since I big chopped, my hair is the length now in one year that it was in 2020 after four years. All I’ve done was 1) not dyeing it. And it’s hard. Because I want to so bad. But no she. No chemicals. I’ve blow dried my hair a total of 4-5 times. 3 times on no heat just for box braids. I’ve FINALLY after three years found products that work well for my hair. I stopped listening to tiktok and just tried for myself. I wash my hair as often as I need. Lisette says once a week for her. For me it’s every 2-3. I can wash it once a week but I’m DEFINITELY not doing a hair treatment. I also don’t always use hair masks. Just not for my hair. And I think a big issue is people try to listen to others. Like lisette says listen to your hair. I was listening to tiktok and other YouTubers and was trying to figure out why my hair didn’t look like theirs until I realized my hair and their hair aren’t twins. Just bcuz we have the same curl pattern means nothing. My hair works best put AWAY. My hair does so well when I do some twists (preferably medium to mini sized but 8 twists work too) and it retains moisture more rather than styling it everyday or trying to wash it 2-3 times a week bcuz someone on TikTok said so. When I first really looked at my hair a few weeks ago I was just shocked. For one I didn’t know my hair was black from it looking brown from perms as a kid and then constant dyeing. Two, I didn’t realize how thick my hair was. My hair wasn’t thin before but I’m even having trouble gripping it because it’s much fuller and lifelike. And three, my curls look different. I honestly thought they were damaged until I saw them right after washing. I didn’t even know my hair could curl like that. I also didn’t know I could have shedding that didn’t look like I just shaved a dog. Like shedding is obviously normal but I used to shed like I cut chunk of hair out and now it’s just maybe a very small ball after I gather it all Lisette was 100% on that do what works for you. But also low heat and low maintenance. From 2016-2019 my hair was the same length until I just started leaving it alone. I do trim my hair myself just because I don’t know where to go in my area but when I did get it professionally trimmed that helped. Especially if you don’t take great care of your hair with chemicals and heat a trim is a MUST.
