Hey guys, it's Megan, so I've seen a few of these scrunchies with zippers in them going around on social media, and I thought the idea was genius. I'Ve seen these go from between 7 to $ 17 on Etsy. I knew I could make something similar for a lot less, but I wasn't able to find a tutorial. So that's exactly what I decided to do today before we get started. I just wanted to quickly. Let you guys know that I finally made merch. The links are in the description and without further ado, let's just get into the video for this project. You'Ll need fabric, a plastic, zipper, elastic, a ruler, scissors and a needle and thread. I used a sewing machine as well, but you could always hand sew this. If you don't have one start by cutting a piece of fabric, that's 4 inches by 18 inches then use your ruler to measure 3 inches down from the top of your zipper thread. Your needle tying a knot at the end bring the needle up through the backside of the zipper and back down over the teeth of the zipper like this repeat this about 8 times, bringing the needle up through the side closest to you and down over the opposite Side when you're done flip the zipper to the back and slide the needle underneath the threads bring the needle back through the loop of thread, that's left, creating a knot. Do this a few more times to make it extra secure and cut off any excess thread. This will be the new end of the zipper cut off the part of the zipper below the thread and your short and zippers ready to go. Lay out your fabric with the right side facing up and place your short and zipper in the center. With the right side of the zipper facing down, pin the zipper onto the fabric and unzip it so it's easier to sew sew a straight line just outside of the teeth of the zipper. When you reach the zipper, pull, stop sewing and do a back stitch. Lift your presser foot and bring the zipper back up to the top then lower your presser foot and continue sewing along the edge making sure to back stitch. When you reach the end of the zipper. Here'S. What it should look like so far now bring the bottom edge of the fabric up to meet the unsewn edge of the zipper make sure that the right side of the fabric is facing the right side of the zipper and pin them together. Unzip the zipper just like we did before and sew along the edge of the teeth of the zipper when you reach the zipper pull back stitch, lift your presser foot slide the zipper up to the top and continue sewing until you reach the end of the zipper Using a back stitch to secure it, here's what it should look like when you're done fold the unsewn edges up to meet each other, pinning the fabric in place, use your ruler to measure an inch away from the edge and put a pin vertically at the one Inch mark this is where you'll stop sewing repeat this. On the other side, bringing the raw edges together, pinning the fabric in place and placing another pin vertically one inch away from the edge of the fabric sew along the open edges, with the straight stitch, making sure to stop and back stitch. Where you place the vertical pin after you've sewn everything turn the tube of fabric right side out bring the two ends together. Lining up the edges with the right side of the fabric facing together, pin the fabric together and sew along the line shown when you're finished you'll. Be able to pull both ends of the fabric like this and you'll be left with the tube of fabric, with the small opening measure out between six and a half and eight and a half inches of elastic. Depending on your wrist size, I made mine, seven and a half inches, but it ended up being way too loose, so I'll probably try using 7 inches next time. If you do end up making the elastic too big, don't worry about it, you can just overlap it. A little bit more take your elastic and thread it through the opening in your scrunchie. When I reach the zipper, I unzipped it to make it easier to thread the elastic through continued until the elastic reaches the other end, overlap the elastic and either hand sew it together or sew it on your machine. I decided to just hand sew it since I had the needle and thread already to go to close up the remaining opening in the scrunchie. I did something called a ladder stitch. This is a bit difficult to explain, but basically you fold the raw edges of the fabric down and only so through the folded part of the fabric, so that the stitches end up being invisible. I'M going to link you guys to a tutorial that I found down below if you aren't familiar with it, it's fairly easy to do just a bit difficult to show with the white thread. If you don't want to do a ladder stitch, you could always sew this up with your sewing machine, but I think that the latter stitch that just looks nicer and that's it now. You have your very own scrunchie with a hidden pocket. This is a great way to store money, keys. Chapstick, really any small item that you can think of this would be a really cute gift idea for Christmas. Coming up since I bet it's something that most people don't have and I'm sure you all were wondering, but it does actually say in your hair with all the like money and stuff in it. So that's pretty cool too. So, thank you guys so so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed this video if you did make sure to give it a thumbs up and make sure to subscribe for more videos, just like this one and also make sure to follow me on instagram and tik-tok. They are both at Weller Meg's. I also have a website which you can find at wwm, aegon, wal, org and yeah. I love you guys, so so much and I'll see you guys tomorrow, bye
