Are We Over Natural Hair?? | Biancareneetoday

Question... Is the Natural Hair Movement Over?? Seems to be a lot of talk about not wanting to deal with natural/curly hair anymore. It's too much work. You've been natural long enough. You want to explore the versatility of natural hair. Straight hair is easier. WHAT DO YOU THINK?? Join in on the conversation in the comments. I'd love to see where you all stand.

Hey curlfriends, i'm bianca, renee and you're watching bianca grenade today and today i just have one question for you guys: um, are we over natural hair? Is the natural hair community like y'all? Still there you still out there, because, according to my timeline, my algorithm, it seems like a lot of people are um over it. I feel like a lot of people are like giving up and don't want to deal with natural hair anymore, and i'm just like how did we get here? I'Ve been doing videos making videos having my channel for almost 10 years now and i feel like we made so much progress and like we were like gung-ho natural hair and like love yourself, love your hair. You can't tell me to straighten it. You can't tell me that only straight hair is beautiful and then like something happened in the mix and now we're at a point where people are just like. I don't want to do it anymore. I just want to go back to my straight hair and i'm just like i don't know, i'm torn i. I understand a lot of perspectives on the other side of wanting to give up. I totally get it, but it's kind of like, but we've worked so hard and i just don't. I could just easily see this being another reoccurring cycle of everyone's origin stories of i used to straighten my hair every day and now it's so damaged and it's not healthy and it's falling out, and i feel, like everyone is starting to like forget how bad it Was when their hair was chemically damaged or very heat damaged, because they've been natural for so long that they almost like forgot the struggle in which they came out of, and i i really don't care what you want to do with your hair to an extent. I just don't want to see you upset again. I just don't want you to feel like ugh and i have to big chop and start all over again because that's it's a lot, it's a long process. So yes, it's a lot in itself, but trying to get it back is probably harder. So i thought we would just open up the conversation today talk about some things. I'Ve been hearing online as i attempt two different curly hairstyles today, as some of you may know this year, i'm doing a curly hair challenge. I think i technically skipped two weeks. My last two videos - i don't think i did a hairstyle, because i was trying new products and i like to see my hair down when i try new things. So let's try two hairstyles that i found on instagram. While we talk about this, the first hairstyle i'm gon na do is a ponytail hack. Let me show you how a normal ponytail would look and then we'll see if we like it better this new way, i'm using my ouchless scrunchies, which are the greatest scrunchies of all time that have never popped on me. This is how a normal ponytail would look. What do we think, but now let's try the ponytail hack. This involves me pretending, like i'm, going to do a half up half down, but then i'm going to bring the bottom layer and bring it on top of my ponytail. But okay, back to the topic at hand, let's talk about the pros and cons of natural hair reasons why you may want to give up that? I understand one. It takes a lot of education. A lot of you have come a long way and you had to literally learn how to take care of your hair, because there wasn't that much information out there or maybe your parents didn't know what to do so. You just were lost so you're, like i'm over being in school, i'm an adult. I graduated, i'm tired of learning. Some of you are upset about the prices of curly hair products. It can get expensive, yes, but at the same time we are choosing the products that we want to pick and if you keep buying high-end products, then that's what you like. There are great, affordable products out there too, but the amount of work as well and a lot of us are product junkies. So we don't even need any more hair products, but we still buy them because we feel like we do and then you have like very persuasive influencers, showing you new products every week, and i understand i am tempting you and i'm feeding into your urge of addiction. I apologize, but there's just so many ones out there and i still like wearing my hair natural. So when i find something new, i get excited and i share with you, but i'm gon na tell you right now, and this is not what brands want me to say you don't have to buy every single product. I ever recommend i mean that's just that's. Just the truth, i like to give you guys options, so you can try them. So you don't waste your money on things that don't work. I'M your guinea pig, but as long as you find something that works for you, you don't have to keep buying the new one, all right now, i'm gon na take! So now i have my top ponytail and now i'm gon na take this bottom half split it and go on top. Then i'm flipping the hair back, putting it on top like this, and then i think i'm putting them all together. This doesn't seem right. Where'S, the video okay yeah we're creating a second ponytail on top of the ponytail. It also is easier with some of these girls that have longer hair. Yes, my hair is long, but still not even as long as theirs all right. The ponytail out, i'm so bad. At sections okay hold on: let's hide you! You stay there that way. I can get all the hair here and here. Okay, now i'm making another ponytail up here. Let'S see what this does well, i i um, i don't think my hair is long enough. It it just looks like a weird ponytail. I mean i guess it's giving more height, it's kind of like a reverse double ponytack hack. Some of us may know you could do one ponytail up top and do a second ponytail underneath it to make it look longer. But i haven't tried this above ponytail situation. What do we think regular ponytail or above ponytail? I don't think this is it? Let me do the original ponytail hack, where you make your ponytail look longer: okay, more more cons wash and goes, whoever named wash and go's wash and goes really just set up the whole natural hair community, because you're starting off with unrealistic expectations. No one has ever washed their hair and went anywhere except went to their diffuser their dryer. Then they sat for an hour until their hair was dry. I understand wash day can be a long process, especially because naturally curly hair tends to be drier. So we have to do things like deep condition and that can take a whole 20 to 30 minutes. Some people are doing hot oil treatments like this. There can easily be a lot of steps. I try to make my curly hair videos as simplified as possible. I recently added more products to my routine, but you still know i'm a one and done type of girl. If i can use one gel and no other product cool see now that looks even better. The elongated ponytail that's the real hack for us, with not as long hair as someone's instagram video, so you do one ponytail there one ponytail there and then you just hide it, and now my ponytail looks so much longer. You can only do that above ponytail. If your curls are super super long now, i'm going to try one more hairstyle. I really think we also got mixed up around like the diva curl phase, because once you lose trust with people, it's really hard to get it back, and not only did that just affect the trust with diva curl. It kind of affected the trust with brands, like some people get mad at me, for for working with curl smith and they're, like man, carl smith, just feels like they're doing the the same, like divacurl marketing, where everyone's talking about them. It'S like. Why are you mad? At a brand for marketing correctly, like you're, saying you see them everywhere, that's literally what every brand should be doing if no one's talking about your product, that's not a good marketing strategy. You want it to be in everybody's face, so everyone knows about you. That has nothing to do with their ingredients or their products working. It'S just good marketing, but everyone's like on edge they're, like oh i've, seen it too much. It must it's probably gon na make my hair fall out like what is that correlation. There'S there's none and, as we are now becoming more educated on the products that we use now everyone's learning about ingredients. And then you have half the community trying to understand the ingredients trying to avoid certain agreements that will dry out their hair or create build up or whatever may be, then there's the other half of the natural community. This is like i use what i want. I don't care, i don't read my hair's fine, i don't know i just feel like lately, it's been more trendy to be like anti of the good like at one point. We were like pro natural hair, loving our hair, loving our curls, and now it's like more cool to be like. I ain't got time for curly, hair i'ma straighten it every day and then, like i, just see people post his videos and, like all the comments are just people like praising praising them for giving up and being over it. And that's like the cool thing. I also get people try to send me posts like silicone's, not that bad sulfate's, not that bad yadda, yadda parabens, there's no hard facts about cancer. So then they're like pro bad ingredients. I don't know. I just feel like you can't win anymore, like you. Try to do your research to help people find products with good ingredients, and then people get mad, but then, if i would promote something with bad ingredients that actually did give you build up or did try out your hair. You also be mad at me, so i just i just don't know what you guys want from me anymore and i just feel like i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Sometimes speaking a hard place shout out to her today is actually her birthday. All right this next hairstyle involves two braids in the front. I need some long pieces. Okay, let's take this piece. Is that long enough? Let'S take this much and then this piece right here. I also understand that there is some hesitance about caring about your curls and just going back to straight, because sometimes people think that having their hair straight is just easier like. But people also say that about protective styles, i almost don't even care. If your argument is like, i don't have time for curls, i'm just going to be in protective styles and braids forever. That'S understandable, and i don't really you know, that's fine at all. I just don't want you to go back to destroying your hair and then having to start over when you're over this new phase of wanting your straight hair back. That'S all i want so i'd much. Rather, you have your hair in braids forever, or maybe even weaves and like wigs, and we never see your curls because you want to switch it up because your hair is not getting damaged in the meantime. But it's just really really really hard for me to like switch gears and encourage you to go back to one relaxers. I i don't think i can ever endorse. Relaxers the chemicals alone should should make you not want to do that again. It'S just it's just intense straightening. You can get away with it. If you use a heat protector, if you do it correctly, you don't apply too much heat, but not every day. Just be careful. You guys are just making me nervous. I just feel like we've worked so hard to go backwards and even like this week, the crown day is coming and that is based off of a whole actual legislative act that was made to help people not be discriminated by their natural hair and protective styles. Like people are getting fired because they came to work with their hair curly or in an afro or in braids or in dreads or locks, because that's how much discrimination is still left in america that we need a law that allows us to wear our hair. The way it grows out of our head, like that's crazy, so when we have things like this going on, where we're still fighting to have curly hair, it's just hard to hear that people are like giving up when we're really trying to make some progress and at The end of the day, the whole point is yes, it's your hair. You should be able to do what you want with it and if what makes you happiest is never seeing your curls again, i'm not telling you to be miserable. You know i just want you to be safe. I don't really have the same experience as a lot of people. I understand that some people consider my hair, the more desirable curly hair type. I totally understand that type 4 hair is a whole different beast compared to maybe looser curls like mine, but it's just like. I also think that type 4 hair in its natural state is also beautiful, and i think that nobody can rock like a legit twist out or bantu knot like type 4 hair. But that is the hair texture that i feel like. I hear the most complaints about or like it's just like the most heart, it's the hardest to maintain. So that's why you're like i'm just over it, and i just rather press my hair every day. I don't know what to say. That'S just what you want to do, but overall, this is this is what i think i just really want to get across. Is it's fine to want to switch up your hair because you want to switch up your hair and you're just over being natural, because you've been natural for years now? But as long as you still don't believe that you are more beautiful or people will accept you more. If you go back to assimilating to the more common look of straight hair, you can never convince me that curly hair isn't like the most unique hair type. We can have curls, we can make it bigger, we can shrink it, we can straighten it. So i understand why you'd want to explore all the versatility that your hair can do. But i just don't want us to fall back into the trap of thinking that you are not beautiful with your curly hair and it's funny that a lot of the girls that are like over their natural hair are girls. That literally have the word curly in their. Like screen name and a lot of girls are like trying to drop the curl part in their name because one it's a very limiting brand thing. But it's like some of the most gung-ho pro-curly people are just done and maybe because they have done it for so long. If this is their new journey. I just hope it works out and i hope it's like you can have your your straight hair and if you want to go back to curls, your curls are still there waiting for you at the door and still love you. I just don't want to see. Everybody walk around with damaged hair in a couple years because they got over it. That'S all i'm saying so. Man cons the cost of products, the work it takes to understand the ingredients, the time it takes to detangle for wash and go to style. But for me being someone, that's always been natural and kind of skipped, the whole relaxer phase and wanting to straighten my hair everyday phase. It'S easier for me to do my curls and if i want a straight look, it's just so much easier to buy a straight wig. I rather invest in a straight wig and pop that on in 10 seconds than have to blow dry my hair and then straighten it for two hours and then try to avoid sweating, humidity and rain all week long okay! Now let me show you what i'm doing with these braids, so in this video i saw from lana summer. If you don't follow her, she is killing the hairstyle challenge, she's, not even doing the hairstyle challenge, but she is posting really cool styles every day, but she got her two braids in the front. Then she put in the back and she crisscrossed it. And then she went underneath all of her curls and then i think she tied these together, probably with a smaller scrunchie and then ponytail like this. How does it look? Oh wow, that's really pretty. I did it look at that the braid and like the little crisscross ponytail wow, i'm here for this look. I definitely should have done a middle part. That way this would look the same as this, but the braid part that was really cute and really easy. Definitely try this one and tag me on instagram, but speaking of instagram, i did go on my stories and i mentioned this topic of people kind of just being over natural hair. Now - and i wonder if this is like the new move, the new trend where we're going - and i was like okay - where does that leave me because um i'm someone who's very team pro natural hair and that's the kind of content that i make so like? Do you guys still want me to even talk about natural hair, anymore or nah, and then i recently got some comments and dms of people saying like they used to always have to straighten their hair because their parents told them to they felt they had you for School they felt they had you for work. They just never felt comfortable or beautiful in their curls, but then they found my channel and i was able to educate them on what to do, and now they like love their hair. It'S the longest. It'S ever been. It'S flourishing they're, so happy, so i like really needed those messages just to even encourage myself to keep going, because i felt like everybody was like giving up so i had to just remember i remind myself that there are those of you out there that still love Your curly hair still want to learn about your curly hair or maybe you're, a parent that really wants their kids to know how to take care of their hair and love. Their hair know that they don't have to change it to fit in to society. So thank you for those comments and those that tell me those types of stories, but let me know where you guys stand. Are you someone that's like over it because it takes too long? It'S too expensive. It'S just too much work. You rather just have your straight hair every day, or are you someone that still loves their curls and they want to continue on this journey, despite how long our wash days may be, but i'm also open to suggestions if there's something that i can do to better Help you guys to make you not want to give up on your natural hair. Let me know one thing that i do think that i can do is even be more mindful of trying to promote more affordable products. I see that comment all the time i hear you, i'm going to be trying some new brands to give you guys some different price ranges. So that way you won't be as discouraged, and i also want to work on, like my word choices when i say like curly, hair rules or like do's and don'ts, because that could be taken the wrong way. But even if i do say that that doesn't mean that you have to do that, there are no real rules to curls they're, just suggestions and they're things that i have done that have definitely helped my hair and have helped other people watching. So i just know that your hair will thrive more if you do certain things or avoid certain things. So that's what i like to share, but just know that i am just a curly girl on youtube. I am not in charge of your hair, you could take the information that i have or not it's your hair. I just want to help. That'S all i want to do. I'M just i'm just honestly, really nervous right now, i'm nervous that we are going to start being anti-curly, hair again and everyone's going to love rocking their straight hair for maybe a couple years, and then you guys are gon na realize how we got to this point And your hair is not gon na be as shiny or as long or as healthy as it as it is now before you give up. But if you are someone that is leaving the natural hair community, we will miss you, and i wish you the best on your journey, but i want to hear from you guys, let's blow up the comments below. Let me know where you stand. Are you over your natural hair? Do you want to keep going on your natural hair? What do you want me to do to continue to encourage you to stay team curly before you switch sides? What'S your opinion on some of these other big curly influencers not wanting to deal with curly hair at all, leave all your thoughts below if you enjoyed this curl talk, make sure you give me a thumbs up and subscribe. I post new videos every week well before i say that um we are currently at the end of june. I'M gon na try to give you guys, maybe maybe two more videos and then i think, i'm gon na pop to be honest right now, i'm wearing a t-shirt, because this is the only thing that fits me, because i am now five weeks away from giving birth. Here'S a little belly shot. This is how big i am so i am getting to the point where i just want to nap and nest. I'M gon na try to give you guys some more content, but this is a pre farewell until post postpartum and then we will continue with more curly hair videos. Christina-Claire Georges: I think it is a cost and time thing. I also think the policing of products has made people feel the need to be the 'perfect natural'. Rather than just finding products that work for you, sometimes the online natural hair community can make you feel 'bad' for using a product. I also think there is a pressure to look like the curl you see rather than the curls you have. Natural hair is so varied and it is virtually impossible for all the products recommended to work exactly the same in my own hair. I think the community is tired, especially if something does not work right away, or in the same way they see from the influencer. Natural hair people, like me, have so many different curl patterns in their hair. I had to learn that you might give me recommendations but that is all they are. I will do what works for me, because at the end of the day you cannot know my hair better than I do.

Jane Smith: I’m not over my natural hair, I am however over the “curly girl method”. I have reintroduced silicones into my routine now that my hair is healthy, and I was sulfate and silicone free for years. It was wonderful for a while but I got board and it was so much work trying to find products that fit into the rules. Now that I have reintroduced silicones, which opened up so many more product options, I’m super excited about my curly/wavy hair and have been trying so many products. I have found products I am in love with and fell in love with my hair all over again. I do agree with the more affordable stuff. I don’t blame you or anything but I get excited to see more curly videos from all the YouTubers I follow, and then when I see it’s Curl Smith, or some other high end brand, I honestly just don’t watch those particular videos sometimes. Everyone is using the same products on YouTube and I cannot afford products like that and honestly if I could, I don’t know that I would even buy them because $28 for 5oz of product is a little ridiculous (yes I know it’s good quality). Don’t give up on teaching about natural hair! So many times I have been tempted to give up, then I come on YouTube and see one of your videos pop up or one from someone else, and I am re-inspired to keep going. I have come to love my curly/wavy hair more than when I straighten it or brush it out. If it’s not natural, I feel like I’m not me ♥️

Brittany Lugiano: Team Curly hair forever! I’m one of those people who straightened their hair EVERYday for years and years. I’m getting married soon and I WILL be wearing my hair curly all because the inspiration and confidence you have given me through your channel. Thank you ❤️

MiVidaBellisima: I agree. There was a time where most of us were harassed or made to feel what we were born with was hideous and undesirable. This movement started because of the oppression against curly hair, especially for black women, so there’s a lot of POWER in overcoming that and embracing what you were blessed with. Pushing your hair back into the standard of beauty just feels like a step backwards.

Elise Patterson: I've been seeing it too, but as someone with almost exactly your hair type (3B/3C and fine) we need to acknowledge our privilege in this conversation. Our hair is much more socially acceptable than someone with 4C hair, that's just the facts. Of course we have our struggles, but just not to the same degree. Similarly, I've found that I have a way larger array of products that work for me than my sisters with tight curls. Just something to think about.

Medina Que: I think having the mindset that Type 4 hair is difficult is a self-fulfilling prophecy. So instead of accepting type 4 needs x, y, and z, people are comparing their hair to other hair types. Then finding fault in type 4. It's a choice. We can either fight against what's growing out of your head or embrace what your hair is.

Curly Worshipper: I think people are over feeling held hostage by their hair. They want something easy to care for with less time. They want convenience. They are tired of the stress of worrying about heat damage or color damage. They are willing to try different things and are willing to take the risk even if it's not long term. People aren't afraid of starting over any longer and that's actually liberating. The curly hair rules seems like bondage or imprisonment and people are freeing themselves of the fear of the possibility of damage hair.

Jaay Kaay: I went to Chipotle yesterday with my hair thrown in a bun & the cashier complimented me on how I take care of my hair & told me she’s jealous. It was a bad hair day for me but she made me feel so grateful

Deandra Johnson: Going natural is probably one of the best things I’ve ever done. I am so obsessed with hair and love my hair so much and this finally made it healthy so it is certainly not over for me. ‍♀️

patoguadia: Well, everything is going backwards at the moment so... I'm not giving up though. I'm more motivated than ever!! #naturalhairrocks

Shale: Personally as someone with extremely fine curly hair, it can be so frustrating when I’ve been taking care of it with all the satin accessories and the consistent routine and then get breakage so easily the one day that I use a bobby pin a little too vigorously On those days I just want to shave my head. but Not giving up! :) ❤️❤️ love your channel Bianca! Thank you for helping me be confident in my curls!

Evy1081: I've kept my hair natural most of the time. I don't bother straightening in the humid summer months. I buy products that are for curly hair but never really thought about the ingredients until watching your channel. Keep doing what you're doing. You are helping all of us.

Tierra Anderson: No I’m not over natural hair! What I am over is all this weave and people calling all these styles protective and they’re not! Healthy hair generally takes time and patience!

Dami Herrera: Honestly straightening my hair every single morning took WAAAYYY more time than dealing with refreshing and wearing it curly. Then when I walk out the door in the humidity in 15 minutes it was all frizzy again. Time completely wasted. And don’t even get me started if it was raining outside. yes wash days take longer but I do them a lot less because I don’t have the build up on my scalp itching and driving me crazy or the excessive oiliness or dryness flat ironing was causing. I had almost lost all my definition from heat damage and it took sooooo long to get some back. At this moment in life I would no want to have to start over again. If people don’t like how it looks now vs then, oh well. It’s my hair and I don’t have to please anyone else.

Nicole E: I will be team curly hair for life. I must say, one of the life changing things I learned from Bianca that made curly life SO MUCH easier was how to refresh my curls. I went from thinking I had to rewash my curls each time I wanted to wear my hair out, and that refreshing would only make them frizzy. I use Bianca's exact refresh method and now I can get a week out of my curls. If you're one of those scared to refresh your girls people, just try it and see. It is honestly a game changer.

Jaay Kaay: I’m actually more in love & more motivated to rock my natural hair only, especially after finding you. You keep me accountable.

Susy: I'm #CurlyGang for life lol. I've done all of your yearly curly hair challenges. I've been lagging a little with this years "curly hair styles" challenge. The "deep condition" hair challenge from a previous year really made an improvement in my hair. I've learned SO MUCH from you about curly hair & curly hair products. I'd be sad to see you stop making making curly hair content. Everyone's YouTube journey & curly hair journey is different so I understand if people go in a different direction. Maybe YouTube was over saturated with "natural hair" channels & that's why some people are "over it now" ???... I personally still watch curly/natural hair content. I even go back & watch old videos. If it wasn't for YouTube I wouldn't know nearly as much as I do about curly hair.

Sunny 247: Styling my relaxed/damaged straight hair was way more time consuming and for the first time in my life I have really healthy hair and truly love my versatile and happy 3c/4a curls. You were my first natural hair influencer. You taught (and teach) me so much! Thank you and rest up

Rechel Moreno: I have to say I'm still obsessed with my hair like I went natural yesterday and it's been almost 8 years! I guess it's because I don't have rules I do what I want to do, what works for me, if I want to smooth it out, I do it. if I want to bleach it, I do it, if I want to cut it all off, I just do it. my hair is fun to do because I don't think negatively about it. I don't live pending the products, what if I have to wash it today yes or yes, if I have to comb my hair! No! none of that I let my hair do what it wants to do

A B: I am dominican, born and raised, I started my curly hair journey in 2015 after moving to Florida, 7 years being curly and I still find myself believing that I would look better with straight hair and that for formal activities I have to wear my hair straight ‍ 2 days ago I went to a funeral and of course I blow dried my hair, at the funeral I saw people with all types of hair, from wavy to type 4 hair and I was so mad at myself for still thinking that straight is fomal and curly its not… that same day I went to the salon and cut off 3 fingers , I also made a promise to myself to love or at least accept my curly hair for what it is, even if its frizzy, uneven curl patterns , not “juicy” enough or bouncy enough and just let it be.

Gemini Patriot: I could never find the right products for me. I’ve tried curl smith and none of the products made my hair feel healthier. I’ve also noticed that products I believed in either changed their formula in recent years or have simply stopped working on my hair. I haven’t given up but I feel discouraged. But I am thankful of influencers like you who continue to fight the good fight! Thank you

K.: we live in a vicious cycle where no matter what we do to our hair, we always want the opposite. girls with straight hair want it curly, girls with curly hair want it straight. we always want MORE. I love my type 3 curls but I do admit sometimes I want it straight, and that’s okay. it’s all about loving and accepting yourself for who you are.

Rue H: I absolutely don't want straight hair but I did get to a point recently after struggling to manage my hair in a dorm where I wanted to try shaving it for a while. My sister hated that idea and we settled with cutting half of it off which I'm really loving! I'm more so tired of the maintenance which was a lot when my hair was longer but I imagine it'd be worse for me if I wasn't natural.

Brittany: i’m over the curly girl method and curly girl “ approved “movement . i like the approach of curly girl friendly instead …. and sometimes that includes sulfates and silicones for me. also although i love my natural hair texture, sometimes i want it flat ironed or pressed and i lowkey don’t see nothing wrong with that. i have one life and ima live it. with that being said, bianca i’ve learned so much about my hair from your channel and i seriously appreciate the content you have put out over the years

Patricia Phillips: "Type 4 hair in its natural state is also beautiful. And I think that nobody can rock a legit twistout or bantu knot like type 4 hair." - Thanks, Bianca! Just past my 1 year natural anniversary. I'm enjoying the journey as I learn to care for my natural hair.

Noree Hix: I've been wearing wigs because my natural hair has broken off due to stress and depression. I can't wait to get my curls back and popping.

Rena66: Don't give up girl! I had my "come-to-Jesus-curls" moment after years of relaxing, blow-drying, and any other kind of straightening you can imagine, including Japanese straightening! I damaged my hair so much that I don't even know how I still have hair! I now love my curls because of you and other curly/natural hair channels I came across. So, I don't care who's giving up on natural hair or curls or if that's the latest trend, I'm NOT going back to straight hair! Yes, I like wearing my hair straight once in a while, maybe for a special occasion or simply to vary my look, because I love variety in my life, but I decided long ago that I would wear my hair in its natural 3C curly state 99% of the time. Because of that, my hair has not only gotten healthier, but it's also grown, and I get compliments often. And I just turned 56 on June 2nd, so that's saying a lot because we women of a certain age tend to lose hair or our hair simply thins out due to hormonal changes. Most importantly, I love your channel because not only do you have gorgeous curls that inspire me, but you have taught me things about my own hair and how to get my wash days to last. For example, your recent video on controlling frizz where you discussed Polyquaternium-69 is a godsend, and it literally saved my hair! I live in South Florida (unfortunately, because I'm a born-and-raised NYC girl!) where the weather is not just unbearably hot, but it's humid, sticky, and swampy. In other words, the WORST climate for my very fine, high porosity, dry curls!! I tried everything to get my wash days to last and it was nearly impossible. By day 2-3 curls, I already had "crunch" on the crown of my head and couldn't get my curls to look as luscious as yours do on your day 5! I had no idea what Polyquaternium-69 was or did, so when you posted your video about that ingredient helping to combat frizziness, I immediately went to my bathroom to check which of my gels had it, Needless to say, I tried a new method using my products with that ingredient, and I've been able to extend my wash days to 5 or 6 days now, rocking pretty curls! So THANK YOU, because it was because of YOU that I was able to learn this and apply it!! Of course, not everything you do on your hair works on mine, but that's normal because we all have different hair types. But you always give great advice and you suggest wonderful products that are both high-end for those who have the $$$, and other affordable ones for those of us who are on a tighter budget. I've learned about new products because of you as well and truly appreciate that you keep us informed on that in addition to educating us on hair type, ingredients, etc. So please don't get frustrated or give up, and keep doing what you do, because many of us are all here for it and we keep learning from you! You and your channel are awesome and, of course, so is your beautiful hair!!

Elizabeth Foster: I honestly wasn't aware of this "trend". I have spent so long of my life wishing my hair wasn't curly and straightening it all the time that I don't wanna go back to that. I confess that I do occasionally straighten my hair for nostalgia reasons and simply wanting to switch it up but am very careful every step of the way because I don't wanna risk damage. If I had to choose between natural and straight, I choose natural every time.

Mimi Lewis: I’ve been natural for about 6 years and even though it’s a struggle some days and frustrating with my busy schedule, I love the person who I became after I went natural and I wouldn’t trade that for anything ❤️❤️

Heather Kohler: Don’t give up on the natural hair community. I know everyone has a different story about their hair but you have changed my life. I used to straighten it or just put it up everyday. I never knew how to care for my hair until I came across your channel. Thank you for helping guide me on my hair journey, do t know what I would do without your channel.

Lurdelis Morales: Honestly my natural hair is so stressful. I’ve been natural for 8 years and feel like I’ve had soo many ups and downs in this journey. I had my daughter and feel like I’ve started all over again. Trying to figure out what products work best, how to actually make time to take care of my hair, etc. I’m now pregnant with my second child and have a toddler and I feel like it’s impossible to keep up with my hair.

Pandorica: I think we all need to just do what's right for ourselves and our hair.

Lisa Randleman: Some influencers with their time consuming methods that don’t do anything helpful, end up harming the health of hair have put people off. If your stylist /educated hair professional using one quality product on everybody….why are influencers saying, my hair doesn’t like this or that product and we take it as gospel. I appreciate your channel and have been watching since 2018. You made it very easy.

Maria Cline: I have saved so much money after becoming natural being natural is so much easier and cheaper my hair was becoming so damaged from all the heat and using extensions for micro braids and box braids I never understood why it's called protective styles I totally agree with you thank you for helping me with my natural hair journey

Tai Crumsey: Even though I’m 7 years into my natural hair journey and feel like I’ve mastered my routine, I still get excited to watch your videos every Sunday bc I genuinely love natural hair, and what other hair types do differently than me! Don’t get discouraged, keep going! We will always support you, and I feel like this is just a phase! In a year or 2 they will be back watching your vids to see how to revert damage.

BeccaBaddest: I tried really hard to embrace my natural hair, but I just cannot. When you have more bad hair days then good, it just weighs so heavily on your self esteem. The only reason I don’t straighten it more often is because I sweat too much when I work out. But 90% of the time I don’t feel cute with my curly hair. I can do my same wash & go routine & my hair will come out different every damn time and that is frustrating. I’d rather wake up with my hair blown out & not have to worry about it then go thru the refresh process daily. And don’t get me started on dry time for a wash & go When it comes to heat I think it’s all about balance. There’s a ton of ways/tools out there that can help minimize heat damage & get the blow out look without using a flat iron everyday. But overall, I’ve been over my curly hair and nothing will change that

Jive Jacob: Your channel helped me embrace my natural curls and help me get healthy hair, and even though it may be hard, my hair has never been healthier!!!! Please keep doing what you're doing!!!

Medina Que: I think the natural hair community is evolving. There's so many new products and new platforms. People who want to go natural have more options.

Latrice S: I am definitely OVER IT--at least for now. I got Keratin treatment and a short bob haircut, and it's exactly what I needed. There was never a nighttime routine that helped retain my wash n go. I stuck with blown out twist and braid outs. And that means you have to re-twist and braid them every night. Detangling my hair is a job (and part of that is putting it off too long because it's a job). I spent almost 2 years mostly doing mini twists, and I love them. But it's all just worrisome. I've been natural for 13 years. I can usually cut my hair, or watch a video for inspo, or get my hair straightened (usually once every 1-2 years) or get a get a protective style (usually 2-3x a year) to take a break from my curls, and then I would be excited to get my curls back. But I went about 6 months without having the desire to go back. So I started looking into Keratin. I would not go back to relaxers. I straighten my hair every 2 weeks when I wash it. And if/when I'm ready to go back to curly hair, I will big chop! I've done it 3 times, and I love to big chop! I don't mind "starting over" because length is not a goal for me. I haven't stopped loving natural hair or curly hair. I have 4a hair (well, the curls are looser now with Keratin). But I LOVED my 4a curls. I love the variety. I love the look. But the routine is no longer worth it. And I'm just at a point where I wanted to wear a short, straight bob. Not a wig. Not a weave. Not for 3 weeks. Every day, no fuss. I don't even put a comb in my hair most days. I run my fingers through it and part it. That's the place I'm in right now. That's why we call it a natural hair "journey!" ❤️

Angela G: I have a little different perspective than most. I spent my whole life with straight hair using hot rollers and curling irons to get curls. I didn't come into curly hair until my 50's. I started off being very restrictive in my products, etc. and as I have grown more comfortable, I find I am less militant about some things and let my choices be results based. I still love my curls and all that it entails, good and bad.

Marissa Vazquez: I think people are over the “obsession” people have with having “perfect/healthy” hair. It’s restrictive and at the end of the day if you really need to … you can cut your hair! And as much as people try to deny it sometimes having your hair straight is just easier and you don’t have to use heat every day to maintain it.

T Jackson: A couple of weeks ago, I straightened my hair just for the hell of it. I hadn't touched my flat iron in 3+ years (even before I found BiancaRenee). It was the most stressful week I've had in a very long time - and I just completed my Master's. It rained - my hair frizzed up. I sweat - my hair frizzed up. It was a good reminder why I started rocking my natural coily curls. I thank God every day for you, and all of the beautiful curly hair content creators I've discovered through you. Please keep going (after your well-earned, well-deserved naps). #teamprocurlyhairforever

G. Engel: No way am I giving up! You helped my hair become it's best! My hair is 2c/3a and up until a few years ago i used to brush it dry= big fluffy mess as well as many other no no's for curly hair. Thanks to you I learned not to do that. I no longer use sulfate or silicones and encourage my friends not to use them either with some success! You taught me how to actually take care of my hair and it's never looked better!

Paola Martinez: I'm definitely not over my wavy/curly hair at all... and I'm so grateful for you and other curly influencers that have taught and keep teaching me how to take good care of my hair... I wish I have found you all years ago!

Shal Perk: I’ve been natural again for 5 years - nope I’m not over her - she’s finally showing more so much more - there isn’t a struggle anymore - it’s actually easier -

truly_troyonna: Unfortunately when trends fade so does people's motivation. They're also more willing to admit they're either over it or learning to care and take the time for their natural hair is too much for them. I focused more on the science, products, and mechanics, so regardless of if the movement existed I would have still sought people like you because I actually enjoy learning and caring for my hair. It's honestly one of my greatest hobbies and forms of self care. I've followed and unfollowed so many because of the trend, but you've been one to remain consistent which I appreciate. Keep doing what you're doing. ❤️❤️❤️ At the end of the day it's all about what works for you and your lifestyle. Much love to everyone, and regardless of your decision I hope that your end result is beautiful, healthy hair.

Sabrina G: I’m still rocking my curly hair! But I think it’s a lot for women to keep up with sometimes. Between rising costs/inflation, family life, and work. I understand. It is time consuming. Thank you for the work that you put in Bianca, and best wishes with the rest of your pregnancy!

Roby: When I transitioned I vowed never to go back to straight hair. We knew it would come back one day, but curly hair will be back again. Just the cycle of life.

Diana Melo: I love my curly hair. I did my whole transition journey with your suggestions. We need them. Please don't give up. People is free to do whatever they need, but you have to stay loyal to yourself, and many of us still need you.

Daisy Rojas: I will never give up!!! I'm very grateful for all you do here to keep us on the right track for natural curly hair. I'm happy you're part of my curly life. Sometime I don't know what would I do without you. Thank you so much for everything you do for the curly community. I'll be with you to the end!

Ashana Mckine: no! you’ve helped me finally love my natural hair and i’ve learned to have sm fun with it. no giving up here

Storytime with Tristan: I’m still rockin my curls! It takes way too much work for me to straighten my hair. My curl hair journey has had its ups and downs, but I feel my hair is the healthiest it’s ever been right now.

Curlyana: Bianca, please keep giving us the content we've come to know and love. If people stray they stray. I think we should stick to who we are. I've said it before, you gave my daughter the confidence to want to only wear her hair in its natural state. We are team natural always!

Sophia Aloeristok: This is so true! Ive noticed this too, in both other people and myself. I just find its very time consuming and I struggled balancing curly hair and a full time teaching job. Its hard. I couldnt find time in the evening. Im hoping now that its summer I can reignite my love of my natural hair and my motivation so put in the work for it

Aglover90: I get it when other ppl want to give up on their hair. I've been through that myself, now I just compromise and straighten my hair maybe 4 times a year, but now I know how to take care of my hair when I do straighten it. Making sure I deep condition, use heat protection etc. I still love my curls and yes it can be a pain sometimes but it's worth it cuz I know I am taking good care of my hair and I can see the difference.

mcaeln: I’m so glad I’m not the only one who has noticed! Two of my favorite influencers recently became straight naturals which really sucked because they’re type 4 like me. The rest of them just do wigs with the occasional dookie braid routine or they’ve cut their hair. Even though I don’t need any help anymore with my natural hair, I like being in their comments sections encouraging others. The first video I watched from yours was the graduation cap hack that I did in 2020, and I’ve watched almost all of your videos since. At this point, I’m just doing my hair and waiting for the point where everyone starts going natural again to talk about my journey lol. But thank you for being a constant in the community; my goal is your length!

Medina Que: I finally have my natural hair in the condition I always dreamed of. So I'm not over natural hair. I'm excited about the future.

Brian Knouse: After flat ironing my hair for over a year, I am now 1 full year with totally natural hair. Because of you and a few other helpful hair goddesses, I will never go back to straight hair. I always wanted long, pretty hair as a kid, but growing up in a rather socially conservative household -- my parents made me keep it short. Now my hair is long, curly, and magnificent thanks to YOU! So thanks for helping the little kid inside me feel seen and validated! ❤

Books and Puzzles: Team curlyhair all the way, I've only straighten my hair once when I was 16 years old and it felt weird. I have learnt so much from you and I have seen my hair improved. Thank you so much

Maya R.: I'm the first one to admit wanting to shave my head at least once a month, but I cant ever see myself going back to relaxers. Keep up the good curly content

Mara Diaz: I think, like everything, COVID had a huge influence on this boom and bust. So many of us had the time and money to experiment because we weren’t going anywhere. Now we are back to real life and trying to learn how to integrate it into normal life.

Judy Richert: I'm definitely Team Curly!!! I've spent most of my life straightening and coloring my hair. When I found Ms. Bianca Renee and learned lots of "tricks" on how to manage my hair with products that were created for curly hair I was thrilled. I realized that I actually looked better with the hair that grows out of my head!!! So, thank you Bianca for all you've done to help me on my journey! My only suggestion that would help me is some advice on what to do with short curly hair. Keep doing what your doing!!! P.S. Best of luck on the new addition to your family! ❤️❤️❤️

Brittney Morgan: I mean for me I’ve always switched from curly to straight for years and I haven’t had any heat damage. I enjoy my straight hair when I want a break or am going somewhere and don’t want to worry about my hair. I never liked feeling like I had to be natural all of the time. I feel like sometimes the natural hair community could be kind of mean about who can be considered fully natural and who can’t.

Filipa Nunes: I feel so confused about people saying natural hair is hard! I look at my mother, she spends at least 1 hour in the toilet daily or every second day making her hair straight (and then it gets damaged). I go out of the shower, put leave in conditioner and gel and I’m good to go. Or I diffuse for 10 minutes with my Dyson before going out. My hair is 3c. I really don’t get the problem ‍♂️ it’s much easier than straight hair… ‍♂️ and I personally find it much more beautiful. In the street everyone has straight hair and it looks mostly boring and badly taken care of…

Krystal Steed: Honestly there are days when I want to throw in the towel and just stick to straightening my hair. I am still on that journey to find which products work best for my hair. I haven't given up yet, but I do wish it were easier.

Yolimarie Vazquez: Switching to my natural hair texture was the best decision I ever made. It hasn't been an easy journey, but nothing in life comes easy. My curly hair is way easier to maintain than my hair straight. I would spend hours straighting my hair, just to step outside and the humidity would ruin it. In my experience, now more than ever, I've seen women learn they have curly hair and love to embrace their hair curly. Its wonderful to see people feel confident in their natural hair texture.

Shanna Preston: I love my curls and I love your content!! Please don't stop sharing your valuable knowledge with us who still want our curls to flourish.

Paulette Moore: Going natural was the best thing I ever did. My hair and I have the best relationship now. Please keep the videos coming. I’m not going back!

Colleen Boyd: For over 50 years I just thought I had bad hair. I am white with fine, 2c-3a waves. No one ever showed me how to style my hair curly/wavy and YouTube wasn’t a thing when I grew up. So of course I washed/blow dried/ curled or straightened my hair every day! I could never grow my hair past the top of my shoulders due to breakage. I found the curly girl method 3 years ago and now at 55 my hair is thriving and growing. I just recently dabbled with occasionally heat styling just for a change, but I will never go back to torturing my hair like that routinely. Thank you to you and the other creators that taught me to love my hair

Gretchen Ingham: After years of relaxers and all sort of chemicals, it took moving to another country and my husband casually telling me how he loved my curly hair on our honeymoon that now I am 4 years natural. And thank God I did because 1 year later at 29 years old I got diagnosed with cancer. I am 100% convinced that all those chemicals caused my illness and thus I WILL never ever go back ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️

Bell Tillman: I absolutely love my curly hair. I never knew I had such thick beautiful curls. I’ve been natural for 2 1/2 years and I will never go back. I started my natural hair journey after finding out I had breast cancer. After my recovery I never want to put anything in my hair or body that can harm either. Plus I never knew how much I would love my hair. My whole life my mother either relaxed, pressed or I had jeri curls. I always thought new growth was a bad thing to have. Now I know the difference.

Leila-Diane Jackson: I just woke up looked at my hair and thought to myself “I’m so over it” and then I see this video

Cayla Monaé: Cause girl…I was feeling like this title, earlier this morning. I really might be over my natural hair! 6 years and it feels like I have nothing to show for it. Feels like every time I reach a monumental step in my hair journey, things go south✌️

TalaB: I've had curly my whole life but no idea how to handle it. The video you did breaking down the different types of products was a game changer! My hair is healthier than it's been in a while. Please don't stop. It so hard finding people to ACTUALLY show what's what and how to.

Shorty B: I love my curly hair. I’ve never relaxed it. I appreciate these videos. It has shown me how to take care of my hair better Thanks

darian upshaw: Thank you Bianca. You’ve done so much work. And it’s beautiful to see how much you care about the community. I understand peoples frustrations. But I myself won’t be going anywhere! I’m all for the natural & the healthy. You’ve helped me understand my hair more than anyone. So please don’t let the discouragement get to you girl. I know that there are plenty of us who want to keep it movin, right along with you.

Amanda LaShawn: I’m “giving up” as a loose natural, but I’m joining the loc community! The daily maintenance because I workout is too much for me and postpartum shedding had me in tears and now that I’m growing it out again after I cut it I’d rather just loc it and have the feeling of braids forever!

Ivy Riedlinger: Im still along for the ride girl! I love having curly hair and you are actually one of the very first people who showed me just how beautiful our hair can be. Thank you so much for everything you do.

Jasmine Marrero: This is coming from someone who is on the verge of being over curly hair. I started my curly hair journey 4 years ago. Things that have made it difficult to stay on path are: 1. The pandemic! I was home everyday for 2 years and never had to do my hair. I got so used to getting time back and not spending hours on my hair and it was amazing! 2. Products. The cost, the ingredients. Feeling bad because I accidentally used silicone or something ‘bad’ in my hair. Constantly being bombarded and overwhelmed with new products every week. 3. Weather! I live in NY where our winters are cold and I am a hat wearer. Do you know what it’s like to have to style your hair to just put a hat on then restyle it when you get to your destination?! It’s so much easier to put a hat over straighter hair. I can take my hat off and not have to worry. 4. And this one is the most recent! I just had a baby. So this is what really did me in. I just don’t have the time. But I am grateful for what I’ve learned to be able to pass to my daughter at a young age!

Dupe Ekhaese: I love my curly hair and would never go back to straightening it. I do have you to thank as you have really helped me embrace my curls and helped me find the right products. Thank you for all the great videos and the work you do to give us the information we need ❤️

Deborah Woods: I started watching you when I was starting my curly hair journey. I appreciate all the tips, product reviews and styling. Keep it up. Thank you

The Curly View: Just do what makes you happy! Life is too short to be bothered about hair. If you want to stay natural good for you. If you want to be relaxed good for you. Do you boo and live your very best life!!!

A. Burrows-Blair: I’ve had thoughts about this for a while since I’ve noticed the “ugh my hair” messages that play backdrop to this apparent shift in the curly hair community. Hopefully I can flesh it out a bit without rambling. Ok here goes: 1. Effort. Curly hair requires so much effort and it creates a level of stress and overwhelming pressure that a lot of people don’t have time/energy/motivation/ability for. It’s not easy to maintain and to deal with regularly. I know for me, my hair is short and shorter curly hair does not bounce back as easily in between washes so even styling my hair everyday is always a “ugh how do I get my curls to fall properly again”. There’s nothing the community itself has done, but the realities of natural hair is that it takes work and if people don’t have the time, the energy, the capabilities - perming might be easier to go since there’s less they’d have to do to style their hair daily. 2. Cost. I kind of feel like there’s this double-sided con happening between product lines preying on curly haired people and also this growing elitist/classist sphere with curly hair products. Let me see if I can explain. We know certain products aren’t good, and avoiding them is hard. The majority of the products that use good ingredients are expensive - even moreso do persons like me who live internationally and so I have to deal with mark-ups on products that mean I’m paying sometimes triple what US customers are. So there’s almost a level of privilege attached to being able to do curly hair “the right way”. And brands perpetuate it because of how much is charged for one products. And I get it. Things are expensive to make, but it doesn’t negate the fact that curly haired people need more stuff than others, so $30 on one item that’s only good for one step in the process…well, it’s a tough financial burden to justify. There’s pressure to spend hundreds of dollars to have products to do hundreds of steps. And if you’re not doing something in a routine, there’s this sense of “you’re not doing it well enough and you don’t love your curly hair enough” because I just can’t or don’t buy certain products. Yes silicone is bad, parabens are bad, all that stuff is bad - but some people legit cannot afford anything other than those drug store brands that have it. And yeah there are affordable ones that have good ingredients too, but do people have access to those? Because I, as an international person, do not. It almost feels like the “better for you” brands are pricing themselves into exclusivity. And yes they don’t need to be dirt cheap - but do they need to be AS expensive? I don’t really know, but I know the cost contributes a LOT to why people give up. They can’t afford the good brands, the bad brands are, well, bad and they’re often shamed for using them soooo they just stop. 3. Shame. Piggybacking off another point, there is some shame people feel if they don’t do xyz while having curly hair. Not prepooing? How dare you. Not using oils? Blasphemy. Not washing your hair religiously every week? Terrible curly girl. There’s a lot of gate keeping that happens and if you’re not doing something another curly haired person is doing, then it’s not looked at as being an alternative way, it’s looked at as being the “wrong” way. So people just don’t do it anymore because they have been shamed into thinking their preferences aren’t “right”. A lot of methods are often given without the caveat of “what’s right for YOU” and are presented as “the” way. I think the curly haired community started off well and did a good thing, but the natural hair world has become a bit lost in rhetoric and gatekeeping and comparisons and privilege that turn people off.

Julia: I love getting my hair healthy so I love my 2A-B-C curls and waves. Team Bianca Keeping the Curls, here!

SharonDJohnson515: I relaxed my hair for the last time on Oct. 1, 2010. I can't imaging going back to relaxer. I think we should understand and accept that sometimes taking good care of curly hair may take longer; make time to do a thorough careful job. Can't jump in the shower, wash, condish, and dash out the door. No McCurlification of hair care! Taking time helped me love (verb) my hair. ➿

Lorraine lori: I was just thinking about this yesterday. I'm always going to stay naturally curly for sure but... I have come to re- realize ( if that's a word) after 13 yrs natural that I can only have MY hair. I watch all these videos, changing and trying various products hoping my hair comes out like someone else's hair. I try to only watch people with similar hair to mine because it just makes sense. I've always wanted a more coily look but my hair is wavy then kind of twirls at the ends. I've finger coiled, brush styled, twisted and I have wavy hair. I like twist best. My hair is similar to yours except shorter right now and high porosity and my hair when wet is very wavy big waves. I think some of us are watching and trying products hoping our hair morphs into someone else's because it's similar or even not similar. I've learned so much watching you, don't give up you're great. You don't need as much product as I may with high porosity but you say that so those of us can adjust products based on our hair. Maybe keep mentioning that to remind us that we may need to slather on moisturizing products. Last night I took a hard look at my hair and said I have what I have and with my arsenal of products I'm going to accept it and see which product I like most, finish off what I have and be happy. Natural. Seeing my wavy roots beneath my forced coils is too frustrating. Can't wait to see you continue with new products. Blessings to you and your family.

Abigail R Matambo: I’m actually afraid my curls have lost and lost definition with each of my pregnancies even when I have been taking care of them the most during those times Also, when it comes to the new trends, I think that’s the problem with following trends. When the whole pandemic started many people went natural and it became a trend, and a lot of girls and women became natural because it was a trend and now they are continuing to follow the trend. Sad thing is that trends come and go so when being natural and caring comes back into trend people are going to be feeling it. I would say, the saying is so true “why try to blend in when you were born to stand out.” But in a society were being different or thinking different is sooooo frowned upon it’s to get people to actually believe and live out that saying.

Shal Perk: I have 3c/4a hair and proud - deep conditioning, henna, amla, and styling methods have saved my hair. Your videos have saved my hair - and kept my styles holding. Please keep us going hun !

Sydney Jean Porpora: It’s interesting that you’re noticing this. According, to salon research Relaxer treatments are increasing. Personally, I love my curls & have truly improved them thanks to you! Don’t stop!

Yuliana: For me, I’m not over wearing my hair natural but it’s so hard to make it look put together. I have tried dozens of products (both drugstore and high end) and still have not found a combination that won’t leave my hair VERY frizzy. Even products that’s are specifically made for frizz don’t really help. It’s pretty discouraging.

Geraldine Abreu: Thanks to you I've learned to care for my hair & eventually wear it curly more often than not. I didn't know what day 5 hair was until I finally figured out what works for my hair! But one thing I have to mention is that my hair has been its best since the pandemic since I wasn't manipulating it as much & also was pregnant. So I was home not being judged with my natural hair. If I was to go to work now (cause I'm still remote) I admit I'd be nervous to show up just cause I don't want to be questioned since they aren't used to curls considering I'm one of the few latinas. But one things for sure, I'm not trying to start over with this journey it took so long to figure out & it all happened after having my kids. They definitely helped with my hair glow up too cause my hair has finally grown the longest its ever been ( passed my bra strap stretched!)✊

Cheyeann Oliver: Have definitely come to love my curls since my HUGE chop! Wore it curly for my wedding and am still in love!! I’m in a awkward growth phase but making it work. And if I want something different… wigs are the best!❤️

Ange N.O.: I can't see myself going back to relaxers, that anxiety (of not scratching your scalp too soon before the next relaxer) alone is enough of a deterrent! And plus, for me, once I got use to doing my hair and finding out what it likes (took two years) it's easier to be curly than straight for me at 7 years natural. Woot!

Mae Mae is Here: Omg so glad you posted this, cause low-key, I was wondering the same thing. Especially when the whole series videos came out about “the natural community is toxic” and how “curly hair is too difficult and I’m over it.” I have come to terms that maybe (and big maybe at that) I will be a heat-trained natural and have a phase where I keep wearing hair straight, because why not? But you couldn’t tell me my curly hair isn’t amazing or that I don’t look stunning with it, because it grows out of my head, and clearly, God clearly intended me to have this beautiful, curly, healthy hair. I just feel like a lot people are just going back to straighteners, relaxers, texturizers, and so forth because “it’s easier”. It’s not. It’s same amount of work when it comes to styling if you actually want it to look like something. And if you’re just straightening your hair, you still have to deal with all the tangles, and you have to be way more wary of the products and treatments you use to make sure you maintain the health of your hair, because if you don’t, it’s gonna break off. Also, I get type 4 hair—especially thick type 4 hair—being harder to take care because it naturally tangles more due to being so curly and prone to shrinkage. And the natural hair community has made it seem like you have to do the most to take care of type 4 hair, which shouldn’t be such a requirement for the hair that naturally comes out of our scalps. I am glad that Black Girl Curls along with other stylists popularized the 30 day detox, because it taught us that our routines don’t have to be so long and complicated. Plus, they displayed this mostly on type 4 hair. Now though I disagree with a lot of the things they say and their approach to speaking to the public sometimes—the routine is spot on and in my opinion, has been blessing to the natural hair community, especially for type 4 naturals. With all that being said, we need to appreciate our hair—it’s the only hair we got. It’s beautiful, and society has told us lies for years that it’s not, and we shouldn’t be so quick to fall back into what society has tried to brainwash us into believing. Also, why we’re at it, let’s get rid of some other misconceptions like, “only long hair is beautiful”, “only thick hair is beautiful”, “short hair is not feminine”, “if you’re hair is not super defined, it doesn’t look beautiful” and so many others that need to be addressed yo. But yeah, that’s my rant lol. Bianca if you happened to read through this long thing, I wish you a peaceful, healthy, and happy rest of your pregnancy and a smooth delivery. I will miss your videos, but you deserve and earned the rest. And thank you for being an amazing curl friend to us all of these years and teaching us to love out curls and all the tips, tricks, and product recommendations! Love you so much.

Ameerah McSweeney: Nope I am not over it. I am going to stay natural. I love my curly hair . I will never perm it use chemicals or straighten it . One thing I am doing is stop jumping on the latest trend that the naturals have out. I am finding me a good set of products and a routine that works for me and I am going to stick with it

Stacee Johnson: I'm not giving up. I absolutely love it but I can't wait to put in braids next month My hair was never damaged or falling out tho when straight. it was actually the longest it had been.

Korri: I started watching you in early 2020 and went all in on the curly girl method, routines, etc and started to really love my curls for the first time! The pandemic and working from home gave me time to really experiment and I LOVED my hair. Prior to that, I would straighten my hair once a week. During the 2 years though I had my hair straightened only twice and never experienced any heat damage. I got my first weave with some leave out 2 months ago. It was straighten ONCE - during install. After that, I wore the weave curly the remainder of the time so I wouldn’t have to straighten my leave out. I just got the weave taken out and my hair has never been so damaged. The leave out is heat damaged and the portion that was braided is damaged, brittle, lacks so much of the density I had previously. I’ve been crying for 2 days and I honestly should probably do a big chop (but I won’t). It’s so upsetting to me that I tried to switch it up in a style that I thought was somewhat protective, and it turned out like this. I will NEVER do that again nor take my curls for granted!!

Nolmarie Silva: I saw a lot of that lately, but I am still natural and I don't change that ever ❤

feliciaG.: I’m so glad that you are still so very positive about natural hair. ♥️ However, there are just people who like to look at the negative side of things. Sorry!

Wlehglowdieh Burnett: Imagine giving up on an actual part of your body like I'm over having legs so I'll cut it off. Your natural hair is enough you just need to find what works for you
