Nazarene of THE WAY: That's doing a lot when all you need to do is stop using a pick, use either a denman brush or wide tooth comb (I find the denman gentler on hair tbh), saturate the hair with water and deep condition weekly, use leave in daily with some water and brush with the denman daily before going out (or at least wetting it, running your hands through and lifting it a bit then shake it), shampoo 1-2 times a week or co wash 2 times a week and use a leave in 2-3 times a week.
Most African Americans and those of diaspora bantu origin have already curly hair of 3 or 4 type cause of our asiatic genes, you just need to give them time to get used to curling if you've always cut them into waves or bald or kept it puffed out in an afro, the proteins need time to adjust and send signals to new hair to favor growing in different ways.
Only 2-3 products and 1-3 hair tools weekly are needed for that.
