Hi everyone, i'm andrew carruthers education, director for samvia, we've been doing this series about progressions and what progressions means is taking what you're already doing behind the chair and making it more excellent making. Just these little shifts these 10 shifts towards really mastering our craft and that's what we know it takes to master your craft. One of the tools that you're already using - and we know you - love because we get a lot of positive feedback - is the samvia sleeker iron, and what we want to do today is we want to show you a couple techniques to take your iron work even to The next level, so some of those things are going to be how we bevel the hair to the head, the pressure that we use, how we use our comb in conjunction with the iron and also making sure that we're cooling, the section we always want to make Sure that we're prepping our section with heat protectant and what we love to prep with is redken's iron: silk, zero, seven, the reason we love this is because we're going to be able to iron over it, have a nice hold to it and a really soft finish With tons of heat protection, so with this section, the first thing we want to talk about is beveling. Now. Beveling means that we're going to turn the iron and the reason that we're going to turn the iron is because, if we keep the iron flat - and this is what we see in the salon very often if we keep the iron flat and we iron flat out This way, what we end up with is kind of a broomstick effect, and that's not pretty what we want is we want the hair to be glossy and to hug the shape of of her face and of her head without having those really sharp ends. But the thing i don't want is, i don't want an old-school look where it's too beveled on the very ends. So when we talk about bevel, think about a bass clef and if you need to know what that looks like it's right there and you see, you have a lot of curvature at the top and then it comes down and it's fairly straight through the end. And that's what we want to create with the bevel when we use the iron so we'll get more curvature at the upper surface of the head and then down and straight through the ends. So that way we hug the shape of the head. But we still end up with nice. Crisp ends that look soft now with haley's hair. When we talk about pressure, she's got a medium texture of hair and her hair. I need basically a medium pressure to it. If we have finer textures of hair, we need to back off with the pressure. I don't know if you guys have ever had the opportunity to stretch too hard on fine hair and then all of a sudden it seems like you didn't iron it because it kind of puffs out and the ends go everywhere. Basically, what happened is you over stretch? The hair so on fine hair, we're going to use a very, very soft touch as we go through the hair. It doesn't need that much tension to get smooth on medium textures, we're going to be able to grip a hold of the hair, a little bit more put a touch more stretch and then for those hair. Textures that are really resistant, don't be afraid to get in and actually come up on, the iron a little bit higher. So you can really get a nice tension and nice stretch to the hair. One of the other things that you'll notice is what happens when i put my comb in we're actually going to put that out of the way so that i don't iron it again. When i put my comb in i'm actually putting in the fine teeth and i'm doing one pass to comb out the tangles and then i'm putting the comb back in and i'm following the comb with the sleeker. The reason i'm doing that is that our iron will put into the hair anything that we put into the iron meaning if this is tangled or it's kinked in a little bit of a way, if that goes through the iron, i'm going to seal that into the Hair strand, so i'm actually going to seal fuzz into the hair strand. So following the hair, through the fine teeth with the sleeker right behind, it is going to make sure that whatever is going into the iron is already straight. The final thing is after you're done with your iron after you have that perfect finished look and that drops into place. What we want you to do is take the wide teeth, then of the shortcutting comb and place the hair, and we want it to cool, very smooth. The reason for that is, those bonds are still forming as the hair cools. So if you let this fall like that, guess what it's going to cool into fuzz, so the things we really want you to focus on is we want you to create that bevel? Remember the bass clef nice curve into straight ends. We want you to adjust the pressure for the hair type. We want you to follow the fine teeth of the comb and we want to make sure that the hair is cooling, beautiful and polished. You follow those four tips guys i guarantee you're on your way to mastery of the sleeker iron and very beautiful polished hair thanks for watching i'm andrew carruthers

Rei Roll: Thank you for the amazing tips! I have medium length hair and started straightening it and I've always gotten a broomstick effect. I can't wait to try the beveled look!

edreamsincolor: Yes great video; however, I'd love to see a before and after photo to further demonstrate the technique.

OnyxFaith aka Chelle: Really love how you communicate Andrew.

Musicology: I love this video! And I love the bass clef reference!

Savanna Leonhardt: Oh my gosh I love this guy! He referenced a bass clef! Plus he is way nicer to his models.

ML Anderson: African american world, we call it bumping the hair

Honestly gio: thx for vid feedbk: thumbs down tho her hair didn't bevel on the ends they're still straight??

jen: Everything about the audio is annoying to the point of distraction. I don't want to hear your cord every time it barely moves or the sound of you swallowing your saliva. Then it just him cuts him off at the end before he can finish saying "Sam villa".

Jordana Fierce: I like it but she blinks a lot

Ajayninrs Rajpal also: how beautiful and cute girl, so sweet lovely

jen: This is really for people who have never used a flat iron. I just wasted about 5 mins of my life waiting for some kind of valuable information.
