Sometimes I just struggle with my curly grey hair. Since my grey hair transition 4 years ago, I've had to learn how to style curly hair. And because of my corkscrew curls, I have curly hair struggles.

#curlyhair

Today, I'm on The Struggle Bus with my curly gray hair, I'm wondering if I really made the right decision to go gray four years ago. For some reason I am struggling. My gray hair is causing me to be just not real happy with it. Lately I have got some crazy curl pattern going on today is not a wash day, it's actually second day hair. That'S why I have the bangs pulled up in this little ponytail, because I cannot make it look right and I thought I would share my struggles and my thoughts with you all in this video, because I know we all go through it. I know if you have gray hair like me, there are those days that you second guess your decision and if you have curly hair I feel like. Sometimes it just compounds the situation, so I just wanted to talk it through. So I stopped curling my hair and started the process of transitioning to Natural gray hair. Almost four and a half years ago. It took me two years to get all of this hair completely grown out, and I have been completely gray for the past two years. It is now winter time where I live. It is horrible weather. It has been raining for days. It is super humid in my hair, which is this long has shrunk up to here I mean what the heck second of all, I've shared this with you all before. I have a section of hair right here at the nape of my neck and only on one side. This side is completely different. You can see. I have black hair on this side and white hair on this side. This hair acts totally different. The dark natural color dark hair is pretty soft and normal it'll just stay down there. If I pull it the hair over here, that is completely white and crazy, shrinks up and fuzzes out like a bird's nest, I cannot figure out how to even give it a curl pattern. I had a haircut on Monday, I went to my hairdresser and I asked her what the heck is going on. How could I get this to make a curl it just frizzes up and it shrinks up. So when you look at me from the back there's a spot right here, there is a hole, so my hair, that's on the top. The top layer is longer than the hair underneath she said, here's an idea, Renee. I know you've probably not thought about this. Why don't you try to take a curling iron and just curl these couple little pieces underneath here to maybe give them some length or run a flat iron through it and then curl it to maybe give it a little bit of length. So it doesn't look so wonky, and I said oh, my gosh Betsy, you are genius. That is a fantastic idea. Well, y'all I don't own a curling iron. I haven't curled my hair or flat ironed, my hair and at least 15 years, so I ran out to get a curling iron see any problem with this. This is a three-quarter inch, curling iron, three quarters inch of a barrel. This curling iron made this curl. I did that just for you all. This is not my hair type. I don't know if you all can see this Mark right here, this wonderful little red mark. That'S where I burnt myself with my curling iron. I don't know how to use a curling iron. Y'All. Look how straight it is right here at the roots. This did this. I need a half an inch barrel, which I went to three places in my small town. Of course nobody has a half inch barrel, so I ordered one on Amazon, a super cheap, curling iron. It is supposed to be here tomorrow and I'm gon na give that a whirl I've been playing with this one all week. You can actually see some of the pieces that I tried to curl and the reason my hair is pulled up right here. It is an absolute disaster, so I'm taking some new medication and the number one listed side effect of that medication is hair loss and I'm here to tell you it's true: I am losing hair like crazy, full on full full length, hair, not just little pieces, not Just breaking off, but full hair, this long gray hair is falling out all over the place. It is all over my house, it's on the couch. It'S on my clothes. It'S in the shower. I am losing hair. So that is a problem in itself. You can see right here, look at this little thin spot and then the weather, the weather, is not helping, it is so wet and cold and humid outside. We have not seen the sun in seven days here. I think this is day seven. It is raining. It is Misty, it is humid like if I walk to the mailbox my hair goes, and this is what I'm left with. I cannot figure out how to do anything with this hair. I want to take the bangs down and show you all what I'm dealing with. I do have a little clear, little rubber band thing in here, because I needed it out of my face this morning I played with a headband a Barrette. I don't want to put it in a ponytail, because I have to go to work later. I'Ve tried to put a um, but a bobby pin over here I tried to fix it down. Nothing is working so I came in here. I tried to freshen up my hair look at this. All of this hair is sitting on top of my head and I look like I don't know what it looked like. I don't have a word for it, but it is horrible, and then we got the piece that I curled with the curling iron that no matter what I do. I can't undo this. It is permanently like that. Apparently, until I wash my hair since I've been completely gray, I've noticed definitely that my hair texture has changed. I'Ve always had very thin and fine hair, but I have a lot of hair well now that I'm starting to lose hair because this medication, I also feel like my hair, is getting straighter around my face and curly in the back. The curl pattern, all over my hair, is completely different and the gray pattern all over my head is completely different Snow White around my face with dark sections, sprinkled throughout and I'm just struggling with this I've been watching all of these young cute curly-haired gals on Instagram. Not gray, hair gals, just your typical young gal, with the beautiful blonde hair and brown hair, and they have these fabulous, curls and they're talking about all these curly hair products and how they coil their curls and it's all bouncy. And so I talked myself into thinking that I needed some new hair products. I ordered a bunch of new things, so I've been playing with this. I have washed my hair so many times this week. It is not even funny. The first day I put in some new products and my hair felt wet. It was dry, but it felt wet. It felt like I coated my hair with the layer of wet wet wax. It was horrible. I normally wash my hair every two to three days. I had to get in the shower the next morning and wash that stuff out. I could not even stand to be around myself so the next day I tried a little bit of another product and a little bit of a different product, and I tried to do this coiling method around my face. To give me a little help with some of this straight stuff, and all I ended up with was a bunch of frizz and on top of it, like I said it's winter, my body has not seen sunshine in like three months, and so, as my skin is Getting paler I'm feeling poopier about myself. My hair is looking horrible. I'M trying to give myself a pep talk, trying to tell myself it's okay, I'm trying to tell myself that I can work with this hairdo. Somehow I absolutely refuse to wash my hair again today. I'M gon na try my best to make this hairdo acceptable. I'M gon na put on some lipstick. I have on a little bit of makeup, which you really can't tell it, but I'm going to put on a little bit of lipstick, put on my earrings get dressed and see if I can just make myself feel better. What do you say? Let'S give it a go, I think I need to work on this piece right here, which is crazy, Bonkers and a little bit of this and a little bit of this look, how straight that is: that's crazy, straightness! So I'm going to take my favorite hair product, Curls Rock I'm going to get my hands wet and I'm gon na see if it is possible to refreshen these curls. My hair typically doesn't like it when I do this. It freaks out a little bit honestly, but I'm going to try this finger. Coiling technique that I've been watching these young gals do on Instagram sorry a little product on my finger and run it through to get this really wet, see how wet it is. It'S dripping and then I'm going to coil this up and oh, oh, no, that did not go well. I need the roots wet. This is the tricky part. Knowing what to do you run your finger down it and then you coil it up, and then you have to do it like that see it's it comes apart instantly, all right, let's do it separately. Maybe I got too much hair. Let'S go the other way nope! It'S digging out this way. Okay, straight curl. I don't know how to deal with that. I don't know what the issue is. Try this piece! Oh, you know, nope. Okay, that's a little better and this piece that I ran the curling iron through, let's see if we can put some curl in here, my hair Feels Like Straw. I get it from my dad. We always say my dad has a hair like a duck like it. Doesn'T want to get wet, that's what my hair feels like. I could get started on this and honestly sit here and coil my entire head, but look look at the fuzzy frizzies. I'Ve already put a silicone finish on this hair. Today, I cannot put any more product on this. It'S days like this, that I second guess myself, because I feel like the gray hair kind of compounds, my curly hair problems and some days it just makes me feel frumpy and old, and that's what I'm feeling today. To be honest, I actually am gon na. Try a little something: I'm gon na take a little teensy, teensy hair, clip and pull this. I don't know where this is going, this back just a little bit to keep it out of my face foreign better, a little bit of refresh a little bit of hairspray. Some lipstick some earrings, some bracelets, I'm definitely feeling better about myself. I think that I can live with this hairstyle today when I go to work and thanks for the pep talk. Ladies, I definitely needed it if you're on that Struggle Bus, whether you have gray, hair, curly, hair straight hair, we've all been there reach out to somebody just like I reached out to you all. So thank you hold up y'all. Look what just showed up my half inch barrel: curling iron, look, how much smaller this is! The minute my mail, lady, dropped this off at my front door. I ran into the bathroom because I'd already washed and dried my hair this morning, because I have to go to work and I look look, look, look I'm so excited. I did this little curl over here with my curling iron. I did this little curl right here with my curling iron and oh, and this little curl with my curling iron. Look how perfect that is! I was able to take some of my Straight weird spots, even though it was the best it was gon na look because I had just washed and dried my hair, I used the curling iron and I was able to blend in some of those not good curl Pieces, my hairdresser was genius with this idea, but I can tell you right now: once I get going and I start curling a piece, let me find a piece to do for you so much better. I can tell this could become a problem because it makes the curls really really perfect and uniform, and so where to stop is a problem. I don't want to get too carried away with this. I promise I don't, but on the days like today again today, pouring down rain, this is the perfect little solution to get some curls in my hair, where I need them and the right size curls with my half inch barrel. If you have super curly, kinky, cooly, hair like I do, this is just a cheap, Conair, curling iron. I got it on Amazon, I'll link, it below. Believe me, it's it's cheap, but it will do the job. I'Ve got it on low heat because I don't want to Scorch my hair, so I think I can just kind of fluff up what I've done blend in some sections over here. My hair looks much better today, since I washed it and used my old products. I do not like those new products I bought. I do not. I do not, and I I'm gon na go with this little side. Note see you later have a good day.

WELCOME TO MY CURLS: Oh the curls....and the grey....is anybody on the struggle bus with me?

AlabamaSpinnyMomma: Winter hair care is the hardest, always fighting frizz. That being said, I know you feel like you are struggling, but from here your hair looks great.

Miriam: I understand you are aware of all the things you don't like because you know your hair intimately. But I can assure you it's not as bad as you think. Certainly not 'horrible'as you describe it. Personally I still think your hair is very very cute and fresh. ♥️

Michelle Bilodeau: Renee I think your hair is beautiful. You were absolutely one of the reasons why I let my hair grow out gray. I'm 65 now and I have shoulder length gray hair and I get several compliments a week on my hair. Whatever you do don't make any impulsive decisions about coloring or whatever. Hang in there with your hair because it's gorgeous.

Jim Gramza: As a married man, who is bald, I appreciate how much time and pride a woman takes with her hair. A woman's hair is her glory.

Tracey Tatara: It's easy for everyone else to say your hair looks great but when you're not happy with it, it doesn't matter what anyone else says but I have to tell you, I absolutely love your hair!! ❤

Bonnie Ford: You know Renee, I think we all have these days. You have a wonderful life you are healthy ,have a wonderful husband, daughters , pets ,home everything . I know you are thankful but your hair is such a small part of you . Winter time is tough but it will pass . We all need to be so thankful for so much we have

Verneice Shearrill: Good Morning , I have the same issue. Just a little warning, be careful that you don’t give yourself heat damage with using heat every day. It looks good

Bernadette on tour: Just started my transition three months ago. I got already an idea about my pattern. From almost complete silver in the middle to dark in the back. I try to stay positive, what is hard, because I have had only negative feedback so far! What helps me most, is not to think about it too often. I know why I am doing this and this is all what matters!

Sally Smith: Renee...please realize that everyone sees you as beautiful in this community!!! PERIOD!!! You are adorable and you are not going to convince us that some unusual hair days will change our opinion!!! That being said...aging changes everyone's appearance!!! Shall we damn ourselves back to our youth??? NO!!! Give yourself a time limit to obsess over your hair...15 minutes!!! Then, leave the fate of your appearance to God!!! After all He's the guy that refuses to let you return to your youth,!!! Merry Christmas!!!

Leslie H: Your hair is like your crowning glory! I started following you during lockdown because I thought I would go grey and I’m curly. Lady-I feel your pain! I went back to coloring because I’m really only about 5-8% white. It kind of just looked messy on me, but someday when I reach that percentage tipping point, I’m doing it. Also the curls are not like in my twenties. I had tight coils. Oh how I loved it! But then thyroid issues followed by menopause. Oh my. I think my issues aren’t so much my hair as they are CHANGES in general. It’s like we’re teenagers all over again! Trying to figure out what works! Sometimes I think it’s easier to just have a wash day when it’s not time and just reestablish that cast on the hair. Also, and this is big, low estrogen not only changes our hair, but our outlook. Some women develop depression, others develop anxiety. Rather than lowering our estrogen we should introduce bio identical progesterone. What is really happening in perimenopause is our progesterone goes away and that causes us to have out of control estrogen. Progesterone keeps it in check. Estrogen is our friend! (Just not too much.) Renee-you and your hair are lovely. Your personality seems to match your looks. That is special!

bs1124: I’ve ridden the struggle bus too! I let my grey grow in when I turned 40, and 2 years later I had a moment of weakness and got a box of color and regretted it the first time I had to touch up my roots again. So I went thru the whole process AGAIN ‍♀️ and I can tell you I’ll never go back. You are beautiful and your grey is gorgeous! I don’t have the same texture as you but I do know that silicone or sulfate products don’t serve me well at all. I do need a very hydrating conditioner and sometimes a leave in. Try to push thru it! The rainy weather will end and the cold weather will probably make your hair happy. I’m in Florida and know what you mean about humidity! Good luck!

Melinda Daniel: I can totally relate to the hair loss! As soon as I turned 60 I started losing my already thin hair. Unfortunately, I'm not having great results. Ugh! I started using minoxidil with a little bit of results. Now I also take spirinolacton which is to help prevent hair loss. I know it's depressing to think you may have to deal with these products forever. I certainly feel this way. Personally, I adore your hair. I completely understand, though, the frustration of changing hair. Love you! It'll get better!

Gwen Graham: Just be aware hormonal changes play more of a role than we realize with hair. Also, even if you color your hair “underneath” is still grey. It will still behave as grey hair does. (From a 40 year plus cosmetologist)

Katherine Houseal: Girl! I'm going through the very same thing!!!! Thank you, Thank you!

Siouxie Homemaker: Yes, I've always been on the struggle bus. I have to remind myself that dyeing my hair again won't solve any of the problems of hair loss, curl pattern (maybe, maybe not), and frizzies. "I could not even stand to be around myself." I've never heard that phrase. Ha!

Edie Ohoxoxo: Darlin' I wrote about a year ago that this is what "could" happen when you begin the "menopause" journey. EVERYTHIG you are experiencing, happened to me. My hair was very thick, very curly and not fine. I went through complete menopause at 55 but the changes began a couple of years prior, especially hair loss, change of texture (became fine) and areas of straight vs. curly. I went gray 2 years ago, thanks to you but have been struggling of late with the decision too. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! You look GREAT! Keep on being your beautiful self. We are all on this journey TOGETHER!!

Peggy Enlow: I went grey during the pandemic and have been so glad I did….most days! Sometimes I look in the mirror and think OMG I look so old! But my hair is so much healthier. My grey hair is such a different texture than my dark hair used to be, but even with color the grey was still under the color and still the wonky texture. And the grey matches my skin tone much better than the colored hair did. It is hard to pull off dyed dark hair the older we get. I love your grey curly hair!

Angelina Vickers: Thank you for being real! It can only get better! I’m beginning the grey hair journey, also have curly hair.

Gloria Wagner: I am right there with you at the front of the bus. My curl pattern has changed, dry frizzy sometimes I feel like crying, heaven forbid I should use a curling iron.

linda beyenhof: Thank you Renee! I was just struggling this morning with my Grey wavy hair!!! You made me feel so much better! I'm ordering a curling iron and taking a breath !

Darcy Leszinske: A couple of suggestions- if you're having trouble with that section, it's likely the side you sleep on. Getting a silk pillowcase really helps your skin and hair. When you wrap your hair around the barrel of the curling iron don't flatten the section of hair. Twist the hair and then wrap around the iron. It will give a more natural looking curl. Avocados are nature's best moisturizer, eat lots of them in the winter. It helps my hair, skin, and nails. As far as hair loss, I started taking Emergen-C, immune plus D. These gummies were life saving for my hair loss!!! Have a Merry Christmas!!

Ossie R: Yes. Glad you’re doing this video. I’m curly and gray at least in CA the weather’s not too extreme. You also might need a different type of cut or a styler(gel or creme).

ruth lindahl: Oh girl, we could be hair twins. I just turned 65 in November, and I refer to my hair as “naturally crazy”. It’s curly, it’s wavy, it’s naturally crazy. My curl pattern has definitely changed since going gray. I am seriously thinking of shaving my head. I’m curious if my curl pattern will come back differently, curious if my grays will come back differently. The struggle is real. Plus I have to pull it back & wear a baseball style hat at work. So that doesn’t help. Took me a minute to write this cuz I was laughing so hard I was crying. Thanks for the chuckle, Renee. So glad you did this video. Happy Holidays.

Kuvasz 93: Thank you for this video. I thought I was the only one going through this. When I blow it out, I love my silver hair. But when I have no choice but to wear my hair curly ( Florida humidity, rain…) I start having my regrets. But I think you look great!

Angela Baljit: Thanks, I didn’t realize the weather plays such a great role on our hair, I would just get frustrated with mine but I realized with grey hair you have to be consistent in keeping it moist and you must give it the time and care it needs for it to look beautiful.

Karen Bond: Struggling too Renee. Finally all gray and my hair growth pattern has changed too. I have zig zag part in the back of my head that makes me look like I have a bald spot. Hang in there!!

Elizabeth Klonowski: Thank you so much for this video Renee. It feels like you are living my life! I grew out my hair to gray from March 2020. I have always had pin-straight hair…once it went gray I was faced with a whole new world. I have no idea what I’m doing…I’m now in the process of learning the curly girl method and buying all the products to support my new hair. As far as the hair loss, I have lost clumps and clumps of hair after a recent surgery. It is frightening. I use men’s rogaine every day. It has made a huge difference. Consider using it if you are truly concerned. I think you look incredible!!! Even with the problems you are going through, you always look so put together! But thank you sooo much for putting this out there. I no longer feel alone in the struggle! Merry Christmas! ❤️

Kefir Heals: Ha Ha - OMG. I know every woman out there that has gone down the path of growing out their gray - is feeling every word you spoke in this post. I don't have curly hair, but I've got the gray. And with every decade, the hair texture seems to change, and the level of waviness changes, and it's just a whole new thing. You're just starting to get into it. But when you said the meds you are on causes hair loss - now that would bother me. Good luck. You looked just great (before and after).

Barbara Henegar: I also have gray curly hair and I feel the struggle! It looks different every day! I do use a curling iron on my bangs!

Jennifer Booher: Thank you for this video! I went natural and grew out my color almost 4 years ago. My hair is a mixture of grey, silver and white now. I love the color, but it wrecked havoc on my curls. I have struggled with the new texture since growing out my hair (and menopause) and it threw my already interesting curl pattern way off. Thanks for the tips. You aren't alone on this journey. Just when I figure out my hair, it is a new day. haha!

Floxendoodle: Your hair is freakin’ gorgeous, Rene!!! But, I understand that we all have those days when our natural hair is crazy making. I have fine-textured hair and usually get a curly perm every 9 months so that I’m not experiencing my fine-hair issues. But, this year, I had a scalp condition and was not able to get a perm as scheduled. It was horrible!!! I had to deal with my natural hair (face tickles, piecey-greasy, tangly). I was ready to throw myself out the window! So, I get it! Happy to report that I was able to get another perm again a few weeks ago (Ka Ching, ka Ching), and I am loving life again (so I no longer have the desire to splatter myself on the pavement).

Mandy b40: I understand your struggle! I tried the curly method with my hair for about a year and I am also dealing with hair loss. I gave up and got a short bob so after I wash it I straight iron it and give it touch up daily and it is so much easier!!!

K MacC: I feel your struggle. I am 47 and feel like my hair is slowly changing and I've noticed that it is much thinner than it used to be and have spots that I see my scalp that I never used to. It's really concerning. My hair has been a part of who I am now for awhile and it makes me a little scared. I love your multi toned grey but I know it has to be completely frustrating at times because the textures can be so varied. Feelin for ya. Sending all the love. And really--your hair is gorgeous, even if you can't see it sometimes.

N C: Girl, me too! I've been fully grey for 2 years and lately I'm noticing some areas won't curl like it used to. I think its the dry air of winter, plus I've been working out more and I think the extra sweating is drying out my hair. I've been aggressively using deep conditioner and that seems to help. I also put the product through my hair and twirl it around my finger to get the curl to take. Curling iron works, but be careful because overuse will destroy your curl pattern.

Sandra Bazan-Olson: In our family, the women suffer from thinning hair as we age. My hair is thin and very fan, it doesn’t matter what I use- it’s in my genes! You have gorgeous hair, enjoy it.

Lisa Quin: I feel you on this one. I struggle with several different hair textures as well. I got so frustrated a few weeks back that I just got my husband's hair clippers and cut it all off. I don't regret it.

Shelley Lee: You are the first one on the internet with hair just like mine! I also went gray about 4-5 years ago, and let me tell you...the struggle is REAL! My very first suggestion to you is, STAY AWAY FROM SILICONES! I discovered that the biggest hindrance to my hair curling properly was the coating of silicones from conditioners and styling products. The hair underneath the coating was dry and course. No amount of conditioner would make my hair soft with bouncy curls. My hair also hates coconut oil...it causes so much frizz (we live in South Mississippi = humidity!). I use only silicone/coconut oil free conditioners, and use a touch of sweet almond oil after washing to help seal in moisture. I also use homemade xanthan gum gel, which locks in my curls, adds bounce and shine. I also never use heat on my hair...I air dry only. THANK YOU so much for your great vidoes on the reality of going gray with naturally curly hair! I am right there with you!

Christie Osborn: I got tickled at your struggle :) Let me tell you my hair is so straight and right now it is so humid and wet here in Mississippi it is hopeless! I am not kidding I will think I am having a good hair day and by the time I walk outside to my car...it is already straight and all my curl gone! The struggle is real...I feel your pain

Sylvia Rios: Your hair is beautiful Renee just the way it is, I get platinum highlights cuz I wish I had gray hair, and also you have a lot of hair that a lot of wished we had.

Cecelia Fuller: Hair looks great to me! Nexus Humectant helped my hair when I had curly perm. Made my hair much more manageable! The frizz smoothed out of hair, too. I picked out my hair and the Nexus made a huge difference in shaping of my hair.❤️☺️

bob2cleo2: I'm struggling with texture changes as my hair goes grey. It's always been thick and completely smooth and straight. Now it's more coarse and dry. I feel ya, but your hair still looks amazing. I think it's the humidity change in winter that is causing the issues.

Pam Rancour: I’m brand new to your channel and WOW! You’re speaking my language! I just started going grey 6 weeks ago. I have naturally curly hair too and I also have hair thinning in places. I seriously can’t see the things that you do until you point them out so girl, just don’t give it a second thought. Your hair is stunning!

Debbie W: Remember last week when you got all the compliments on your hair? It is gorgeous. I also have grey curly hair and I find that it changes seasonally. I re-wet potions on day two hair and that refreshes it.

Patricia Cullen: Renee, you are rocking that gorgeous hair. Have no fear.......it looks amazing!!

Jean Mikaloff: I love your hair!! I have been twisting, pinning and wearing it up. I often use a curling iron to balance everything out. I had to order a small barrel one off Amazon also.

Judy Bausch: I love the highs and lows color variation in your natural gray. So pretty!

Ros Teixeira: You inspired me to go "natural" so I stopped coloring my hair in June. Now 6 months later I decided to have a pixie cut to get rid of most of the brown. The hairdresser gave me a short boy cut, thus I'm shopping for a wig. My hair is straight and I always wore my hair long or a long Bob. Now that my hair is so short, I have waves and twists. I have to wash or wet my hair everyday to keep it decent. My hair changed with the cancer drugs but biotin helped with the hair loss. You may need to cut your hair short to find the new structure of your beautiful hair. Just make sure the hairdresser doesn't give you a boy pixie, it's only a good look for Annie Lenox. Good luck.

Celeste Ybarra: Your curls and hair color are amazing and so pretty. I also learned that when you shampoo and next step add hair conditioner, it's really helpful to use a wide tooth comb to comb the hair conditioner from root to ends, wait a few minutes then rinse. It helps alot for my curls. I also Catwalk. Great product!

Nina Hennebry: Renee I was just thinking how lovely your hair looks ! Don’t give up !

Karen Terrell: Your hair is beautiful, I never would have noticed the tiny details bothering you. The gray pattern is pretty!

Jackelpubs: My hair is thin, and I am so jealous of any gal with more hair. I know you are annoyed but I love it and honestly it looks so cool ❤

Stacy Fausett: I soooo relate to this!! Went grey, curly hair and dealing with perimenopause….it’s just makes me feel so old some days. I like you get the compliments often on my hair and wonder if they mean the curls? The grey hair? My hair has white sections and some sections with my natural auburn and then the blah grey as well. But I’m just trying to embrace it. I look back at pictures and think the color never looked as natural as I wanted it to. It’s like your my twin!!! But I’m not on medication and I can also relate to the hair shedding issue!!! You look great! As my dad would say….Don’t sweat the small stuff!

Debbie Caplan: I live in Northern California, and I have been feeling the same way about my hair. I have naturally curly hair that I blow straight. It has been looking dull and dry due to our winter weather. I usually curl it after blowing it out. The best curling iron I have ever used is the Kiss Professional Insta Wave Automatic Curler. It is inexpensive, easy and you will never burn yourself. You should return the other ones you bought and get the Kiss Professional. I also deep condition and use John Frieda Luminous Glaze Clear Shine Gloss. I love your hair. I share your struggles. Happy holidays.

Angela Holinka: Humidity does that to my thick, wavy, partially grey hair. I am struggling also. When I am frustrated with ANYTHING, I walk away and come back to it later, and it usually works!

cheryl maxwell: I am recently growing out my gray hair at age 52. I live in Utah so no humidity, but the extreme dryness is in itself a major problem. The winter is the worst for curly (so my hairdresser confesses). I have resorted to a tiny barreled curling iron. Start curling form the root and move down to the end. It takes practice. But honestly I've been using my hairdryer brush by Revlon, and been straightening my hair. As I do not wash my hair everyday, this method is genius for this reason. Have you tried any Olaplex products? Their number 8 heavy duty conditioner is great, and also number 6 leave-in conditioner is great, and number 8 is a smoother for frizz. I both a small round brush at Dollartree and after I wash my hair (while still in the shower, I do not dry my hair, its dripping wet, and put all the products it (some you've recommended) and then take the small round brush and so individual sections with the brush (clip up the rest). and then I have a teeshirt towel and wrap it up in that for a bit and then let it air dry. It seems when I use the diffuser it frizzes more sometimes. The Olaplex really helps with the straw feeling. I also loose tons of hair but I wonder if its because I never brush it? And I am currently going through menopause, so there's that. I love you and your channel! Don't give up! Your hair is goals for us!!

Faith Reyes: Your hair is always beautiful! The smaller curler iron is going to be your answer it looks like!!

Silvie_youtube: Yout hair looks amazing, Renee! I always envy it in your videos! Since starting to go grey, my curls are no longer what they were. Some weeks, it looks nice, other weeks it's a mess. Plus that I'm always shedding! I have no idea why! My hair seems confused, really, as Casandra Calin said in a cartoon! I feel like a fake sometimes, when I use mouse and gel and difuse it, my hair is curly. If not... Well, it's confused .

Christine Phillips: Your hair looks fantastic! It’s funny how we look under a microscope at our own stuff.

Jane Kreger: My lifetime of curls makes me feel your pain. You look just fine

kica172: I made the impulsive decision of cutting my hair when Inwas feeling the same way as you and now I have to start again to letting it grow. You are beautiful and your hair is also beautiful. Tomorrow will be a better day. Sometimes it is a reflection of what we are feeling inside. I live in Florida and when the weather is rainy, my mood changes. Tomorrow will be another day.

Jennifer Jordan: I just spewed my coffee when you said struggle bus! I know your hair is probably a hassle, but it's so pretty. I wish my grey hair looked that good.

Europa 17: Your hair is beautiful with all those lovely curls. When my hair is damp. I add gel, then scrunch and let air dry. I don't use heat because curling irons dried out my hair and I kept burning myself.

Iris Kehler: I absolutely love your hair. I laughed so hard when you pulled that one piece of hair and called it straight and realized you truly do not know what straight hair is. You look gorgeous really. Thanks for sharing that very real video.

Pam Dawson: We feel for you being frustrated. From a viewers point of view you are beautiful to us. Seasons ,medication , diet ,aging can all change our hair skin etc.the least of our worries. Looking at others who look good doesn't help...comparing to others is not helpful. Just don't look in the mirror as often....that's a joke ok You are your curls. Neat, tidy and clean is a blessing. You're just going through a low time , it will pass. Cover up all your mirrors! Lol We love you and feel for you. Go work at a charity shop :)

Bridget B.: I know it's frustrating you...but I think your hair is beautiful! I use to color my hair every 4 weeks...I don't anymore. I'm learning to embrace my grey. I wish you luck finding and embracing your grey. ♥️

Marj Nussby: I think your doing great with your hair! It really is beautiful. I hate that you're losing hair, but since you said it's medication related, it will regulate itself. I can relate to the struggle of adding new products and tools to the routine. Looks great from here. Merry Christmas all!

ildiko: You have beautiful hair! Count your blessings. I have been losing mine since menopause so I am envying your natural, thick and curly grey hair.

Audrey G.: Girlfriend, if you saw the stiff coarse curly locks growing out of my head, you'd be thankful for what you have - I wear my hair up 24/7. Now that you know that 1/2 inch barrel works for you, you might want a better one so you don't damage your hair.

Debbie Buchanan: I have naturally curly hair. I had the keratin treatment straightening done for 10 years and decided to stop straightening it about 2 years ago. I have been struggling with frizzy spots, an underside section that is straight, and hair that is starting to fall out. I am still coloring my hair and seem to be constantly trying new hair products, hoping to find something that will work. I definitely understand your frustration.

KYCN Media: Your hair looks amazing! Absolutely beautiful...

Sonoma County Real Estate - Lori Godwin: Your hair is incredible and so beautiful. It suits your bubbly personality. And you are so inspiring! So much so that I ditched the dye 5 months ago because of you. A clear Keratin gloss does wonders for my hair.

Peggy Baker: I love your hair and the curls..You look absolutely beautiful with grey/curly hair..just relax and deal with the curls

Lynn Niemi: hang in there - you made the right choice going grey - we all have bad hair days! I have wavy hair and everytime I try to curl it is comes out straight as a stick! I can feel your frustration~

Sandra Perry: Renee, you are absolutely so pretty… We ladies all want perfect hair and it’s so funny, most of the time we want what we don’t have. I think the smaller curling iron with be your answer. Your curls are beautiful ❤

Lisa McCloud: It’s currently 11:41 pm. I have the same trouble with my grey hair. My hair dresser told me that grey hair is very different than colored hair. My hair is also straighter in the front and super curly in the back. It’s just something I have to live with.

Charlotte Tyus: I love your curls!!! I also think you look especially beautiful with the darker color!! You look too young to be gray- headed!! But very striking either way! Merry Christmas!❤️

chocolate7810: Hey there fellow chrome ( that's what my husband calls it!) & curly, I here your struggle, but I found that after washing my hair I apply beard oil, yes beard oil, to my scalp and ends and then scrunch to the rest of my hair has helped alot!!! my hair is softer a lot less frizzy and my scalp feels so good less flakes too. In the summer I use a lighter oil. My have apothecary place that I shopped in and she recommended.

Priscilla French: I have seen your curl pattern change over the last couple of years so fascinating but frustrating , when mine mucks up I use a apple cider vinegar rinse and that sorts it out

Paula Smith: You look great with the curls and multi color gray. I was taking high blood pressure meds and it thinned my hair . I know how you feel.

Rita Book: Use the 3/4” curling iron on your crown or top of your head. Remember how it made a straight section of your hair stick out before the curl. While that isn’t helpful for the side of our hair, I have found my 3/4” barrel to give me lift and volume. Just an idea! Hope y’all get some sun soon.

QuickSilverHair: Renee, I have watched you for a while now and your hair is just gorgeous the gray the colors and all. If you want silver curl help get in touch. If I may, I do offer a consultation and I can see some issues that I can definitely help with. One issue is probably how and with what you are setting the hair as it dries in your humid climate.

Sylvia Comiskey: Renee, you always look beautiful. I know we all have those days but remember how many people ask you about your hair? I have straight hair always wanted curly. Remember your 12 pounds! Go on have a great day!

Minna Uyeda: First, you are hair goals! I also struggle with meds, age, and weather all taking a toll on my hair. I just did an oil treatment for the ends, and rosemary hair growth treatment for the roots. Maybe that’ll help you for some of the loss? I have natural curly, long, brunette hair. I am only 30-40% gray and it takes a long time to grow in. So, I only color the roots from the top crown to the temples, in front of the ears. I’ve been letting my gray in back grow in, because it’s the section that usually takes the longest to go gray. So retouching roots ever seven weeks from the ears forward isn’t expensive or time consuming. But my curl pattern is opposite of yours. It’s horrible, super curly from the ears forward super curly shrinkage in the fringe area, and loose waves the back. Ugh, I’m about to just straighten it all the time.

Melissa Culpepper: Hormones change our hair like crazy, peri-menopause and post menopause. I feel your pain as I have these same kind of bizarre hair “patterns”. I have loved using the olaplex hydrating products and Moroccan Oil Gel-cream. Also, try Aveda’s Flax seed gel.

AidaJof: Hey Renee, You managed to tame those curls☺️ As to the grey hair, the salt & pepper looks great and those darker spots I am guessing still part of the transition. Yes, some medication side effects are a nuissance and hopefully needed for a short term(?)

Paige Saunders: I actually love your hair.I have curly gray hair since 6 years ago and I love it get so many complements on it

Tori Gillispie: Also, I NEVER blow dry my hair. I’m 67, also stopped dying my hair 4 yrs ago. So my secret is use a little hair oil, and let it dry naturally

Birgit Raya: Love your curls Renee.i have fine straight hair, and have to use alot of mousse and hairspray to get volume. I use to get perms in my younger days mainly for volume.the curling iron was the perfect solution for your hair. have you tried a hair gel?

Lisa: I think your hair looks beautiful. I have slightly curly, frizzy, course hair which I still color treat. I imagine that changes in humidity and temps affect yours. I know that's what causes mine to frizzy or freak out. Menopause caused me to lose about 1/3 to 1/2 of my hair. I had TONS and now there's thin spots on top. My mother's side of the family had thinning hair and she also experienced hair loss.

Tamara Pace: So sorry for your struggles. After covid I lost most of my hair and the texture changed. Your hair will stop shedding, just keep cleaning your scalp. Maybe a trim? Is it over moisturized? Too much protein? I know it feels good to talk it through. But, please know that your curls are beautiful. Your hair may be acting differently, and you may need to relearn what it likes, during this season, but it still is one of a kind and many women see you and wish that their hair looked like yours. Merry Christmas and the very best New Year's.

Ella Altman: Ms. R - girl how we have ALL been there! I LOL at the side note 1/2 barrel curling iron because yes I can see how it could become a lil beauty addiction. I have long hair with a little curl (frizz in winter) and thank goodness for hair tools and accessories for days when the locks are totally NOT cooperating. BTW - you and the curls look great!

Mary: Have you tried weekly deep conditioners with heat? I find that really helps me. I have a fair amount of grey under the color and added balayage highlights last summer. I use richer/more moisturizing products in the winter and try to stay on weekly deep conditioning treatments with heat.

K Ham: Hi hon, I have gray thick curly hair and I feel your struggle. A good cut helps, but some days it is difficult. Your hair is not awful, maybe a deep conditioner treatment will help ( my hair loves coconut oil ). Its funny about the humidity, definitely not our friend. Remember silicone eventually coats your hair. I have played around with using foam rod curlers ( skinny) to perk up the dead spots. I may buy one of those skinny curling irons. You can always use a cute fabric headband to put most of it back. Leave the bits out in front that you fixed up. I do this sometimes. Look on Etsy for headbands. I live in So CA, so not as cold here, but I wash every three to four days, use a leave in, and jojoba oil. Put it in a hair towel, 15 min? Then add gel and air dry. Not too much gel. Scrunch and shape a bit. Hope for the best. I use a silk pillowcase to sleep. Results vary! Take heart, your hair came together at the end and you looked lovely. Sometimes the days I am hating my hair are the days others admire it. Go figure!

cora nation: Your hair is gorgeous, but I get what you mean. We have to be happy with ourselves. I hope you keep your gray and know you have been such an inspiration. I'm about 3 and a half years in and still loving it. Sometimes I gel my curls back and clip on a curly pony.

Kathryn Curry: What so funny is I don’t have gray or curly hair, but I still watched the whole video just because I love them so much! I’m 54 and recently learned that strawberry-blondes do not gray, we just loose the pigment, so I’m hoping I don’t have to go thru the hassle of dying my hair, especially since I’ve never done it. Lucky there! Just starting to loose the pigment at temples, which it just looks blonde & texture is the same. Lucky there too! Now we’ll just have to see where I loose the pigment next, wish me luck . Sry for the long comment ❤️

Helen L: I started transitioning to curly non colored hair when the pandemic started nearly 3 yrs ago. I still have a good amount of natural pigment in my hair but in the areas where I have more gray, my strands have their own mind! It does respond to certain products better than others and I find my curls don't hold all day. Your curling iron suggestion seems to be a good solution. Thanks for the video. P.S. your hair is actually quite lovely and I do understand your frustration.

Peche Turner: Your hair is actually very attractive, you're being too hard on yourself. And you don't look old, you have fabulous skin. You mentioned several times you don't like your hair in your face, maybe you'd like a bit shorter layers on top and around the face. A hair stylist once told me that frizz is your hair searching for moisture and she suggested I use a more moisturizing styler. Also, when my curls aren't behaving sometimes a protein treatment helps. When I first went natural I was buying lots of products used by those cute young curlies on social media and they didn't work on me. I finally figured out I needed to find folks with hair like mine (fine but lots of hairs) and use lighter (but still moisturizing) products. My best styling days come with Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-in on the lower half of my hair shafts, and Bioterra gel.

nina: I’m struggling with the grey dry hair as well. Moroccan moisture mask and oil helped me some.

ElaEG: Your hair is beautiful! But I do understand the struggles! I've had some of the same. I find my grey hair needs more leave-in conditioner, especially in winter. I find I need to add conditioner and styling product between washes to cut down the frizz. And I also have annoyingly straighter pieces around my face and forehead (for some reason the top styling doesn't hold up well and starts to look straighter, drier, and frizzy). One thing I do with the finger coiling technique you were trying is curl it up and hold it in place with a plastic claw clip till it dries. That usually works for me and looks better in the long run, once I remove the clips and fluff out the curls. Also, if your hair hangs unevenly in the back, I'm wondering why your stylist couldn't just cut it dry so it looks even when it's styled - or is the unevenness not consistent enough for that to work?
