Fact number one: they are the most common cat in the united states. The domestic shorthair is the most common cat in the united states, accounting for about 90 to 95 percent of house cats. It'S also said that there are over 80 million domestic short hair cats in american homes. Fact number two, not all short hairs are the same. Domestic short hairs should not be confused with british short hairs, american short hairs or other short hair breeds. Although domestic short hairs look similar to other short hairs, they do not have the same genetic composition. Fact number three: they are a mix of breeds. The domestic short hair is a cat with short fur. That is also a mix of unknown breeds. Considering that 98 of all cats are not purebred, it makes sense that domestic short hairs are very common due to their mixed ancestry fact number four: they are not a particular breed, since these cats have mixed ancestry, which can vary from cat to cat, the domestic short Hair is not recognized as a specific breed. This is similar to mixed breed dogs or mutts fact. Number five. These cats are hard-working aside from being hard-working domestic short. Hairs have also been long favored by humans. This is because, throughout history, people have appreciated their hunting abilities. As mousers they hunt rodents and other small pests fact number six. They were domesticated in egypt. However, these cats are prone to overeating, which can lead to obesity and other health problems are related to being overweight fact, number nine. They are low maintenance. The Purring Journal: Do you have a Domestic Shorthair? <3

Kartika Sofie: This one is my favorite type of cat. Love domestic shorthair cats <3 unfortunately especially in my country, there r still lots of people who underestimate this cat and called moggies as a low class cat. Hope people could treat all cats equally regardless their gen.

Leslie A West: Yes, I do, I think I've always had them. I find cats, cats find me. A good match.

Michele: You didn't mention how extremely intelligent and loyal they are.

no name: I can confirm some/most/all of these facts Idk if all of these are accurate for me or not, but I can say that I can relate to these facts, atleast some. My cat doesn’t overeat. My cat named Tabby is a domestic short hair cat and she likes so lay in the sun, likes both dry and wet food. She is pretty playful! Tabby’s name was inspired by her fur color which is a mix of tabby and calico.

Beth Peterson: With my parents we had a cat that almost lived with us for almost 18 years. He was our 1st cat. He was sweet and friendly when he got very old. He was so laidback to other cats, too.

Christian Solis: Those cats are the most common household cats here in Philippines it called "Philippine short haired" or "Puspin" short for "pusang pinoy" which means "Philippine Cat" in english.

Linda Stapleton: Yes I have an Orange tabby and he is a handful to say the least! He is unlike any other cat I have ever had!

AmyMeowmii: I have 2 tuxedo household shorthairs. Both are she-cats. The 1st one is Bluey, the 2nd one is Felicity.

Janbahavalli Pillai: Domestic shorthairs are not only common in united states, but all over the world.

Kachiri Beleza: I wouldn't say shorthaired is a favorite for me. I love my cat nice a nd fluffy, like one of the best ones I had, Chiiyata. He was orange with white from chin to belly and on paws. I also had a couple of black fluffy cats. I love a cat that's black and fluffy!

mee mee the cat: And don't forget how smart they are. I have one.

teihini-ane: I have 2 domestic shorthair babies, brother and sister. Mia is mostly white on her chest and has a mostly grey back, while milo has that cute white tux looking chest (like a gentleman hehe) body all dark grey with white paw socks. The domestic shorthair breed is one of the CUTEST breeds you can have as a companion, they are so funny in their own way and are really stubborn babies, but the sweetest when they cuddle & always wanna make bread on you while you try to nap❤they don’t care if you’re laying down and on your phone, they will be all up on your chest shoving their ass in your face

Michael Toney: They are furry teddy bears, that can’t stop your love and have stiletto claws. Name recommendation: Taser-face

anne gillespie: Very good info on short hair cats. I’ve always have had a cat I’ve had a short hair indoor Calico cat live to 20 years old & a black long hair ( that looked like a Maine Coon ) indoor live for 17 years old ! ‍⬛ And now have a orange & white cat !

Carolyn Nield: Moggies ! That is such a cute name.

Chiroptera: Domestic shorthair = Moggie =A mix of everything or that is what we call them in Europe and i have 5 :)

JAY: In the Netherlands, those would be considered: An European shorthair. And the American shorthair is mostly called: British shorthair.

Art Westefeld: The orange and white cat around 1:30 reminded me of my cat Marmalade. Short for Orange Marmalade.

Crys Bee: Lol I have a DSH named princess. I agree that they’re not that smart but she is loving and loyal ❤

Gillyfluffball: We have a black dsh , a half Himi ( we know her genetics on her moms side ) and we just lost our Persian .

Karin van Berkom: I did have a calico tabby with 4 white socks and, gone in March, a black one. They became almost 15 years old and 20 years old...

Gerry Burntwood: Are they also called tabbies?

Tasia Thomas earle: I have 2 black female domestic shorthaired cats

Nancy B.: They are not a "mix of breeds." Purebred cats (that is, cats deliberately bred by humans to create and maintain a specific look) are a recent phenomenon and account for only a small percentage of the world's cats. The domestic shorthair is simply the descendant of cats brought to North America by Europeans -- none of its ancestors were ever "pure breeds" because none of its ancestors were ever deliberately bred by humans.

Laura ada Cerri: si ho un tigrato scuro.. con due grandi macchie bianche sulla pancia.. sono sicuramente molto intelligenti..

gritty kitty: awww , my cousins !

Rachel Feng: im getting 1

Joseph Gardon: So like all humans all are mixed breed.

Daniel Gaskell: American Domestic shorthairs/mediumhairs can live to be 27 yrs. old. The longer they’re forced to stay indoors the shorter the lifespan….

Anita Glasgow: If they were hardworking, they'd take out the garbage.
