Ashley

Everybody it's Ashley from Ashley screen life and stay screen tip is how to plop for curly hair. So that probably sounds like a weird word, but plopping is basically referring to a technique of how you can style curly hair by plopping it into a t-shirt usually and folding it up tying it up and keep you in that for a few hours to get the Curls to set, and then you live release it from that and you end up with curly hair. So the reasoning behind the plopping technique is that by taking your hair and putting it up and wrapping it up into a t-shirt, it's not going to be us exposed to air and other things that will cause it to maybe frizz or flatten out, as it just Gets worn it kind of will pull down whenever it's all nice and tight and wrapped up and it's able to dry into the shape of the curl that you want it to be, and the best part is that it's very green and how you don't need any Fancy tools or you don't use any electricity to do it. It'S just quick and easy, just wrap it up in a t-shirt and you're all set to have curly hair. So the first thing I usually wash my hair at night umm. I find that the plop I'm good. I find that plopping seems to work best for me when I do it during the night. I kind of don't like wearing the thing on my head when I'm out and around the house during the day. I'D rather just wear it during the night time, mom asleep. So what I do is usually I'll take a shower before I go to bed and wash my hair like I usually do, and then I put it up in something called a Turbie twist. So it's kind of like a microfiber towel, I kind of have it up in there. It gets a little bit the extra moisture out I'll, adjust the dripping wet hair. Then, when I'm ready, I will take that out, but a little bit of my flax seed, hair gel. So that's, basically, what I use is my only type of hair gel and you can see how to make that recipe here. Basically, just flax, seeds and water is how you make that, and you end up with the gel. So then, I will take it out of the Turbie twist and I will start to put a little bit hair gel in it and kind of brush it with a wide tooth comb. So I'll do that I'll kind of brush out the ends any tangles. That might be there and then kind of just start applying the Kjell to it. I find that this helps to decrease the frizz factor with my hair. So I just kind of go through section by section I kind of pull down and then twist twist twist the end and kind of bring it up to the top of my head and then let it release and then I'd repeat that I'll just put some gel On twist twist twist the end up to the top and then release, and then I just repeat that for my whole head, I try to do it pretty quickly, because I know it's going to be in the in the t-shirt and the plop. For most of the night, so I'm not trying to have any perfection, but I just want gel to cover most of the hair, so after I've done both sides and it's time to start clapping so to do plopping, like I mentioned before, all you need is a T-Shirt, I love this t-shirt. Is my husband's t-shirt? It'S like a vintage shirt. You know it's like that. Texture, that's like super soft and worn in I've, tried regular t-shirts and they're so stiff. I don't feel like it's comfortable, so if you can find a like a vintage style, wear or feel type of a shirt that would be helpful with this shirt. As you can see, it's pretty big here, it's a size extra large and I also do one of my short sleeves. I think that's helpful too. Otherwise you have these long sleeves that are all wrapped around with the hair, and it's just more on my head. I'M like all right so to get started, you're going to lay your. I find it's best to do it on the bed, so I lay mine out flat on the bed. I put the collar of the shirt closest to me then, from there I put my head right in the middle and I kind of take my hair, and I do it like an accordion kind of whenever I lay it down, and then I put my head down On top of it - and I will start to pull the back of the shirt to my neck, so you can see I pulled the back up to my neck. I'Ve tucked it under and then I'm going to start rolling the front piece towards me. Now I'm going to start taking the two sides and rolling them together and I'm going to take those two like you're, tying a shoe and tie them together at the back and at the face of my head from there, I will kind of pull it up. Leave lift up and start to tuck it in I hate having extra t-shirt fabric, so I took it all in as much as I can about what it looks like another tip I have is find your front part and make sure you have it going the way You want your part to go if the hair is mixed, messed up, it will turn out messed up in the morning. So after, though, that in you can see here's what the back looks like I've got it wrapped around its kind of tied at the base of my neck, and I just love to tuck it all in as much as I possibly can so there you have it. That'S how I plot my hair and that's what I look like with it all nice and wrapped up and flopped up so from there. Like. I said I like to do this at night before I go to bed, so you can see here. I am getting ready for bed and obviously I sleep when it's a little darker, but I thought you might like to see how I try to position myself when I have it on my head and sometimes it takes some adjusting. I even wear an eye mask when I sleep and so to have the t-shirt on my head plus the eye mask it's a little bit funky, but um. It ends up working out. Well, it just takes them adjusting until you can get comfortable. So that brings me to the morning whenever I've woken up, I'm taking a shower done everything I need to do and I'm ready to style my hair. So from there I just untie it from the back and lift it up and, as you can see, it's kind of held it in that position. Everything'S been kind of flattened down smushed down, but, as you can see, the curls held really well. That is where I will start to do a little bit of recovery work now, as I have to call it I'll, put a little bit another round of hair gel in to bring it to life a little bit. So the next step for me is to apply the gel, the flaxseed hair gel again to my hair. So I just do it section by section and do the same technique I did before of the twist. I try to be a little bit more gentle with my twists this time around so I'll. Take this section I want to do get some hair gel and pull it down. I apply most of the gel to the top of the hair and then, as it comes down, I go a little bit more gentle on the into the curl, because that's what has held so well during the night. So if I try to pull it or reposition the end of the curl, it will change it. So I found that if I just go a little bit more gentle when I get to the tips, it holds the same pearl that got pressed in during the night. So that's key. Another tip that I have is that I always try to scrunch the ends. If I finish to finish a section, I will try to take it and scrunch it up all the curly girls out. There know that scrunching can be definitely key. It gives it more bounce to the curl, so I just kind of go around each section. I'Ll start, as you can see on one side of my hair and then I just keep going until I've gone to the other side of my hair and then I'm done with this style. I thought you can see. I have just styled my hair now with the popping technique. You can see the curl I'll show you a little bit of this side, and this is really just my favorite way if you ever want to know how I get my curls. The way that I do this is it popping is my favorite technique to get curly hair. So if you've ever tried popping you can share below or if you have curly hair sure what technique you do to get it to stay curly as well. So, thank you guys for watching and I'll see you next time for the next screen tip bye. You

Zieraell: For those who are just here for the "hair wrapping technique": 3:30

Ashley Harley: Oh, thanks for this video! My nine year old has super thick, long, curly red hair! (she looks just like Merida from Brave) And I have thin, stick straight hair. Maybe this will help! I'm at such a loss with how to style curly hair! We may try the gel recipe too!

Heather Bowman: I just plopped my hair for the first time. I watched a few videos before I was able to actually get my plop nice, tight & looking like all of the other plops. Your video really helped to clarify what to do. Thank you! Unfortunately it's noon here so I won't be able to leave it long enough. Can't wait to try it throughout an evening! Thanks again. You helped me so much. I am hoping to see a little bit of results for the time I am able to do this.

Bridget Strong: I will start plopping my next wash. Thanks for the info. By the way, your video was very helpful. Cheers

francesca V: Loved this! I either let my hair air-dry or do something similar to what you do but without any real knowledge of method: I'll try your technique next time, also I really want to make your gel recipe!! thank you Ashley ♥

La Avanator: I've definitely wondered about this before. I love that you shared your tips for plopping. I was wondering if you could tell us about your hair color.. is it natural? do you have it professionally done? or do you do it at home.

KristinaLovesMU: I have never tried plopping because I was scared of my hair looking more crimpy than curly, but I will have to try this on a day I don't have to go anywhere just to give it a test run lol. My way isn't totally green, but I just use a hair product designed for curly hair and a tiny bit of gel just for hold, scrunch it up and let it air dry. It gives more of a scrunched look than curly, but most days I don't have patience to actually curl each piece as you do :)

Nathy: This was such a great description of how to plop and refresh the next morning. I've never been able to plop properly. Gonna try this soon.

Sara P: I do this all the time, and love it!

Akshaya Billa: I love how explanatory your video was and it worked for me! Tysm!

StickItOutTillTheEnd: I usually bunch my wet hair, with product in it, together, and use a large butterfly clip on the top of my head. I sleep like that, and in the morning, I take the clip off, and I have my curls. I use the same clip to "pull up" the roots that the clip/hair sat on all night to give some volume - for an hour or so, and take it off before I leave for work. I will definitely try plopping as opposed to this, and see which I like better :)

Cluebug’s RV Adventures: I love your videos! I did the flax recipe yesterday. I can't wait to try it!

Brittany Allan: I have very curly Hair. Ploping does not work for me. I brush my hair upside down in the shower with conditioner in it, then apply the gel in the shower, I SCRUNCH a lot. Then after it is scrunched I take a t-shirt and I will scrunch more water out of it. Then I take the T-shirt and I wrap it like you would with a normal towel. I then normally do my make up routine and get ready for work, I take my hair out of the t - shirt, then I will defuse my hair low heat low blow pressure. Once it is really dry.. I DRY scrunch upside down, where you scrunch all the crisps out of the Gel. Dry scrunching is KEY for my hair.. It fluffs my hair and makes it looks amazing.

Who’s_A_Good Boy!: This is how you make a video. Show demonstration of steps while explaining them in under 8 minutes, show end result. Thanks again! I’m T-shirt plopping right now!

Ji Ja: Thanks Ashley. .I love your videos. .Thanks for all the great tios always

aubiegirl76: I've had pin straight hair most of my life. In the last year or so it's become a little bit curly which I absolutely love! I don't know-horomones maybe? I'm 39. I'm going to try this method tonight and see how my hair comes out. Thanks for sharing.

A. L.: Girl, you and I have the same type hair. Mine is long, thick, and curly. I feel blessed to have such thick hair as I'm sure you do. (We'll probably never have thinning hair, that's a good thing!) But, the process we go through is certainly not for anyone without patience, lol. Over the last couple years I've resorted to washing and then twisting into a bun style with a clip while wet/damp. I wear it like that even after it's dried alot of the time just because of time restraints and it's so much easier to just have it up! :)

Chillivata: This was really helpful and you helped save me some money - thank you!

T har: When I was younger, I did the blow dryer version of plopping. I would add product to my damp/wet hair, flip my head upside down and agitate the roots, then use a diffuser to blow dry my curls in, scrunching them up as I went. I know use Ouidad and twisting, or the plopping method (but I don't love it, as my hair holds too much moisture through the night.)

Kaylie S: How often do you wash your hair? For my hair, I let it dry half way in a braid then let it air dry which gives me nice curls and waves the next day :)

Cath Roulette: Starts at 3:27. Thank me later.

hey,hey hey, hey: Thanks for this vid, recently I thought I might try and see if I have curly hair but never new how to do it before

Daniela P: I commented once about how you get your curly hair with no frizz hehe I'm glad you made this video, even though you replied =) I also have curly hair & will try this method tomorrow night.

Sidhe13: Thank gawd! I hate morning shower so it's good to know I can plop overnight!

Mariana Barraza: Hmmm... the twisting and pulling sections of hair is not working for the curl pattern and volume at the roots. Have you done this without twisting?

P A: very helpful. thank you.

Amanda How: Beautiful hair! I don't see how any of these other ppl are saying your hair isn't curly. My definition of a curl is anything that curls into a loop. Wavy hair? Meh, not so much curl as much as just curves. I have naturally wavy hair that I love! Just for fun lately though I've been looking at heatless ways to curl hair. The Luxy Hair channel has a ton of great tutorials and ideas! And yeah you're going to find some crazy stuff, but as long as it works right? XD A friend of mine and I did headband curls this week and we loved the results!

Laura C: I have super straight hair and this is fascinating!

Stella Ilyayev: Wow this is great. But how long do you spend on doing your hair? When my hair was longer i curled it with a wavy hair iron than i braided it and went to sleep and i woke up with such pretty curls :D I can't wait to grow my hair back. Any tips to grow your hair fasteR? I cut it into a bob : (

Nicolette Ulrich: when literally only 7 seconds of was all i needed to figure out the technique but i mean get that watch time though.

Alka Joseph: Hi Ashley, so how do you care for your curls on days you don't wash your hair?

Sarah Sohn: I tried to do it overnight and when I woke up the curls looked great.. ..but they were all up hanging on the side of my head! It looked a bit crazy-any suggestions?

midtheory232323: What about when you exercise ? Do you put your hair up? Does it ruin the curls? I wash my curly hair at night too so I usually exercise before bed

kaleidoscopicmind5: What do you die your hair with and how often do you do it?

Opo Kami: Can you use a silk scarf?

Mi: Your hair is very pretty. But honestly I feel lucky to have straight hair, I couldn't spend so much time styling my hair lol. I wash my hair with ACV only is it doesnt get greasy at all. It works great for me!:)

Calm & Peace: Ashley Green can this be tried for all hair types and even the gel you use?

Smartie And Steveo: Very cool! :)

Ji Ja: hi Ashley ..can you please share which gel you are using

Vanessa Jones: what's is the recipe for the flaxseed gel??

Evie Ramirez: Thank you!

Demi Veenstra: I'm trying it out now, I'll update if it works for me!

TheRooWay: everytime I do this I wake up and the t-shirts not on my head

MimiDidi: If you're not a fan of the wet, crunchy look of curls, can you use a curl cream on it wet? Does this work with shorter hair? Shoulder length?

LaylaWhitmore: My hair is straight, but I want it to be curly :( I watched this hoping to get curly hair, but it just didn’t work

Alexis Amos: Does this work for natural hair? Not for natural curly hair?

Naruto Uchiha: well that was easy

Lena: THANK U BESTIE

Nico Ann: will it work with short hair?

Islem Abdennadher: What does plop mean pls

Sue Sue: Hi Is that it natural curl? Also have you ever had you hair SOUR? I have because I used to put it up in a bun wet BAD idea, you have to Apple Cider Vinegar wash like crazy! My hair is about 10 inches longer then yours, I found Infusium leave in conditioner works to keep hair under control I use ALOT of it though.

Aleen Rea Martinez - Cagatin: I just love your haaaair. ooooh

Nichelle: Looks like doing a pineapple

Bradley Taylor: Nice biceps

Scout the Spaniel: But your roots look so flat.

Shanice Harris: Well for anyone who has "wavy" hair sure this could help them. For me as a curly haired person this didn't help I didn't gain anything from this video but thats besides the point what I'm trying to say is I'm not hating I'm stating out the obvious. There are a bunch more comments out there talking shit about her why did you feel the need to respond to mine?

M. G.: Too much work involved.

Ruzzakaris Zee: not even close to curly

Marina: Hair gel is really bad for curly hair..your hair isn't curly but wavy btw

Hannah Biffel: She wants her hair to be curly....

Shanice Harris: Wavy not curly.

Karl Lastinger: honey you are pretty but the hair is WAY to long . color is fine but shorten and find some type of style or cut. worse in later video about decluttering. meant to be helpful no hurtful:)
