Hi hello, welcome to my channel, thank you for being here today we're going to talk about towels. What kind of towel is good for curly hair? What kind of towel is not good for curly, hair, ah and a few different options, a budget option more expensive options. I'M just discussing the subject of towels, but before we do that, i do want to point out something. That'S probably pretty obvious, and that is. I have silver blue turquoisey here right now. I can't even stop looking at it so shiny. It'S the curl smith hair makeup. In turquoise - and i was playing with it this morning, washed my hair filmed a video um for my instagram, which is maurice's, curls and yeah. I just love it. I really really really do so. If you would like to see how i did this, then keep your eyes on my instagram over the next couple weeks. I will be posting and the video of how i use the the curlsmith hair makeup anyway, we're gon na talk towels so before i ever actually learned about what ingredients and products were good for my hair, um or all the techniques we use for curly hair. One of the first things i learned i just came across it on the good old internet was not using a regular towel for my curly hair and just making that one change of not using a regular towel, made a huge difference to my hair. Even before you know, i delved into the world of curly hair care, we're going to look at a few different towels, what they're good for pros and cons and talk a little bit about the technique of using a towel on curly hair. What we should and shouldn't do so. The very first thing that i have right here is a regular towel, terry towel, the kind of towel that you would dry your hands with or dry your body with and up until now, maybe you've been drying your hair with one too, i know i certainly used To um they're usually made of cotton or poly cotton blend, and if you look closely, you can see that there are all these little fibers and they are actually little loops of the fabric. Um. If you look closely, you can see that there are small loops that are twisted and that's what gives it that plushy soft nice thick towel feel, however, for curly, hair or hair with texture like wavy curly, kinky, coily hair. Those little loops can cause the cuticle of the hair, which is the surface of each individual hair. Instead of laying nice and smooth, it can cause it to be all roughed up and stick up which can cause excess frizz and just cause your hair, not to look good um. So that's one of the reasons we don't use these towels also they can sometimes be just a little bit too absorbent and take away too much water from our hair, and we know our hair needs moisture. So that is why it's best not to use a regular towel, so we can get rid of that. The next thing we're going to talk about is a really good budget option. If you don't want to go spending any money, but you want to stop using a terry towel, you can do this and that is a t-shirt, a regular t-shirt. This is actually my husband's pajama top, so preferably a men's wear t-shirt just because they're, bigger and squarer um you've just got a little bit more fabric to be playing with than a typical ladies kind of slim fit t-shirt. So obviously a t-shirt is really smooth. There are no little bits sticking up to catch your hair um. It doesn't matter all that much what the t-shirt is made of. I find a stretchy t-shirt with a bit of giving it works best and when i made that one switch from this kind of towel to a t-shirt, it made a huge, huge, huge difference to my hair, like i said before, i even delved into the world of Product ingredients and all those other techniques. At this point, i'm just going to talk really briefly about a technique of using whatever towel it is you choose to use because, of course, traditionally we would wrap our hair up in a towel kind of twist all the hair into you know a towel twist. It tightly and tuck it under, but that's not great, for curly kinky, wavy hair, because actually that's going to break up the curl clamps stretch the curls out and probably remove too much water from the hair. So whatever towel you decide to use instead of using it. The traditional way you can do one of two things, there's probably more, but here's two ideas you can do something called plopping. Yes, one of those really bizarre words that we use in the curly community, i'm going to show you how to plop, lay the t-shirt out flat. Lay your hair onto the t-shirt, gently kind of allowing the curls to take their natural shape. You would take the corners of the t-shirt, pull them up over the top of your head twist. It together with the sleeves and then take them around and tie them around your head. Then you can tuck in the loose ends. If you want to - and that's you done, this basically helps the curls to form um gives them a chance to find their natural curl pattern. It'S completely optional. I actually don't tend to plop. Very often it doesn't really do anything for my hair, but some people absolutely swear by it. So that's one thing you can do the other thing you can do, which is sometimes known as micro plopping again sounds weird. I know, but this is what i tend to do, and that is when my hair is soaking wet. So after i've shampooed conditioned co-washed and conditioned whatever it is. I'Ve done. I take the the t-shirt or the towel and i just scrunch and squeeze um all the way over my head a few times so that my hair is less wet and then i'll apply. My styling products or you might apply your styling products and then do the squeeze with the t-shirt or the towel. So those are some techniques of how to dry your hair, using whatever it is. You choose to use rather than a rough dry or a twist, and a tie good budget option the t-shirt, let's move on to some other options of towels different types of towels that you can use that are on the market. So all of these i'm about to show you have been gifted to me um. This is not sponsored by anyone. This video, but these have all been sent to me. So the first one we're going to look at is this beauty. I mean it's beautiful to start with. Ah my favorite color, i just love it. It'S double-sided and this is from frankenfox clothing. So frank and fox clothing are an eco-friendly company and they make all sorts of things out of recycled fabrics. So this is genuinely made out of t-shirts, so it's literally a t-shirt. Towel looks even got a little pocket, so this is made up of lots of different t-shirts that are no longer being used. Oh hit myself in the face with it, and it's lovely and big. You can see the size of it um and it's double layered, so it's really absorbent really really pretty as well. This works absolutely fantastically absolutely love this, so you can check them out um she's on instagram. She has an etsy store, frank and fox clothing. I will put the link in the description for all of these, but if you are eco-conscious, if you like the idea of sustainable recycled fabrics, then this would absolutely be ideal for you number two is this one, which is from a brand called tea owls and they Use organic cotton um this one's got a really nice stretch to it and it's absolutely massive. Also. I love the color. If you have got long hair, then this is going to be fantastic because, like i say it is huge, this one is a little bit different. This one is the perfect haircare towel, it's got a fancy bit, it looks a bit like a hairdressing cloak and the fabric is different. It'S not t-shirt fabric, it's microfiber and it is very, very smooth shiny, as you can see there. It reminds me of you know the little polishing cloth you get when you get a pair of glasses or sunglasses. That'S what this feels like. That'S exactly what this feels like. So it's surprisingly absorbent and it has the little toggle here which helps when you're tying up. You can make it into a little turbine and poke the end of the of the twisted bit of the towel in there and tie the toggle. I'M pretty sure that swaby curly courtney has got demonstrations of how she uses this on her youtube channel. And if i can find them i'll link them, this is a fantastic towel. I really really love this and i use a lot. It feels nice, it's super good quality and it's just it's just excellent, highly rate this and lastly, we have something a wee bit different and so pretty so so so pretty. Ah, it's just gorgeous. This is by modistra sews and it is a little turban towel and it is made from mo doll fabric, which is super absorbent. It is also a sustainable fabric. It'S again got a lovely amount of stretch, just a gorgeous fabric. She has them in lots of different fabrics. You just have to see what she's got available at the time. It is also um, reversible, double layered, and it just looks so cute. So if you do want to plop - and you want to look nice while you're plopping, this is the one for you - those are a little lineup of my favorite towels so which one you go for depends on depends on you, if you're just new to stopping using A regular towel, then you know what you may as well just pick out an old t-shirt and see how you get on with it practice with that practice plopping and getting the hang of that twist and tie. And if that's something that you want to try or maybe you're, just not into using an old t-shirt, and you want something - that's beautiful or sustainable, or something else. Well, we have so many options, don't we so, and these are only a few of the options that are on the market and there we are. Oh, my lovely towels. I use them all. I love them all. I hope this has been helpful and that has given you a little bit of an insight into why we don't use a regular towel and what the other options are out there. I will link all of those towels in the description box for you to take a look. How are you today? I cannot figure out how to start this video hi everybody nope. I cannot stop looking at this silver, blue, hair,

nic: thank you SO much for the eco-friendly options! I wanted a microfiber hair towel but I read that they’re not good for the environment but I couldn’t really find any alternatives except t-shirts which don’t really dry my hair at all. I’m so happy I came across this video, I’ll definitely look into those companies

Abby Riley: Heya ! I have to say, I did a "before / after" wash to see the difference between a terry cloth towel and a t-shirt at the very start of my journey, and it was pretty shocking how big the difference actually was for me ! (I did the same with my pillowcase before buying more than one to see if it was worth it) Personally, I bought an "Aquis" hair towel, a waffle one (extra thick / absorbent) because even though my hair isn't coarse, I have so much of it, and I plan on letting it grow, plus I prefer damp styling rather than soaking wet styling. I have used it for quite a while now and I'm very satisfied with it (whether plopping or micro plopping with it). It's definitely a microfiber type towel. It's not as smooth as a t-shirt but it doesn't give me any frizz. Also, I don't always trust Amazon (or at least the vendors on Amazon) and it's easy to find elsewhere in France at least. (they have some on the Sephora website, I bought it on the website Lookfantastic and for those in the US, there is always the original Aquis website) Anyway, great video and thanks for all the info you put out here !

Dozey Mare: Great video Marisa, I love my microfiber yoga towel that I found on Amazon, really cheap and beautifully soft. It's made such a difference to my hair

RachTrav12: Does it depend on the microfiber towel you use? Smooth or fluffy?

April Kaufman: Your hair is soo beautiful!! Thanks for the info

Lori Bauman: Love my Perfect Haircare towel

Rebecca Laws: I need all of those towels!!!! I have a few,? I definitely need to get more!!!!

Beth Cooper: How do you use the modesta without twisting your hair in it?

Elizabeth -: I got my hands on a Curlsmith hair towel that came with a special they were running when the Shine line came out. Now I can't find another hair towel I like as much as that one & Curlsmith doesn't sell that one apparently. /cry

Mehraj Ahmed: very helpful, thanks alot, will start with a t-shirt, you saved us money many thanks
