I Tried Instagram Hairstyles For A Week (Short Hair) - Kayley Melissa

Hey everyone Kayley your friendly neighborhood hairstylist here and today we're doing another Instagram hair challenge, but this time with short hair or medium hair, whatever., (, upbeat, music, ) ♪, So don't hold back ♪ ♪, So don't hold back ♪ ♪, So don't hold back ♪. So, as with the long hair version of this, my sister Anna Laura has gone through Instagram and picked out five totally different hairstyles for me to try for the first time on camera. She's, also styling me she's, taking me out for photo shoots. This is a whole thing and a half. [ Anna ]. That'S why I love it: ( Kayley laughing ). This is my favorite week of the year, So if you guys enjoy this and Anna Laura pushing me involuntarily, out of my comfort zone, hit the like button comment down below. If you have any more ideas or things that you'd like to see me do, but I'm excited for this video. Already filmed all five days already think they're, all great there's some surprise looks. I think you guys are gon na enjoy it. Let'S get into it. ( upbeat music, ), All right new day, new hair. What are we doing today? [ Anna ] All right so today we're throwing a shout out to another hair, specific Instagrammer. Love, that., Miss @ milabu., Hey Yeah., How you doing girl [ Anna ] Well. This is one that you're gon na be doing today.. Alright, the three strand pull-through braid.. Now, if you guys don't follow Milabu, what are you doing? Follow her, but also she's the queen of pull-through braids. So like not only am I doing a pull-through braid, I'm doing a three strand, pull-through braid., I think normal pull-through braids are very easy, but this is both like a Dutch pull-through braid and a three strand which I've never done before. So I think it's gon na be a learning curve. All right., All right. [ Anna ]. That was my goal. I wanted to challenge you with one of these. Okay.. There'S a video on here too. If you need to watch it., I think I might need to watch it. I don't know how to do this braid. A few minutes later.. So as with all pull-through braids, you have a top ponytail and a bottom ponytail.. The top ponytail needs to come down in three sections, and the bottom ponytail needs to come up in two.. That'S the overall idea goes like this, and then this and these get clipped up and these go into an elastic. Got it All right. Let'S give it a try., ( upbeat, music, ) Ponytail number one is done cool. Are we done? Did I finish it? Is that it This ponytail comes forward and we clip it out of the way, and now we make ponytail number two. Literally the same thing just underneath it. ♪, So don't hold back ♪! That'S the easy part.! Now this top one needs to come back down in three sections so put that into three.. This bottom one needs to come up in two sections. So what I'm gon na do is bring up these two pull this one through this one back this one back and then clip these., And now these three all go together in a ponytail with some new hair.. Your face Anna's just looking at me like ... [, Anna ]. That'S how everybody's looking at you. ( upbeat music ). Now we repeat it again., So the cool thing is from here. Gravity can actually help you, so you're gon na go ahead and drop the outside sections. Let'Em go., Then, with the second ponytail you're gon na split that in half. So now you have these two and this one in the front.. This one just needs to go through the whole back here, we're just gon na tuck it in and clip these two up., And now the three pieces and some new hair come together in another elastic.. I hope this is making sense, I'm figuring it out as I'm going too., And now we let the top down, and we do it again or we just do this as a half-up, half-down hairstyle and I'm done. Nice try. I think I did it So now, as with any good pull-through braid, we must pull it apart, pull at all the little pieces between the elastics and make it all bubbly and cute. Sissy come check. My work. I don't know why I'm doing the `` Jaws'' theme song. ♪, Dun, dun, dun, dun, ♪, (, quacks softly ). That'S the sound a shark makes. They're very misunderstood, creatures. [ Anna ]. I would be significantly less scared of them. If that's the sound they made. ( quacks softly ). Oh my God, you did it. What the heck! That'S the coolest thing. I'Ve ever seen Pretty cool.. It'S freaking cool. Milabu, I see you., You know what I think we need for this week. I don't know if this is on your plate or not, but I think we need an evil. Kayley short hair. [ Anna ]. Oh, just you wait., Just you wait. All right! Well, I'm gon na fill up my hairline and let's go take some pictures. [ Anna ] Yay [ Kayley ]. Well, I got ta say this is definitely outside of the norm for me, but I do appreciate how secure the hairstyle is. I appreciate how cool it looks and I think once you have an idea of how to do it, it's actually not that hard.. So, overall, like just really fun. ( camera, shutter, snapping, ), (, upbeat music, ) ♪, I belong. I belong to you ♪, So I wanted to add some volume to my hair, today. Yeah, Hmm mm. Mission accomplished [ Anna ]. I'D definitely say you did it.. What did you do to get that? Oh man? I used both of the Bumble and bumble Great Body Products, there's like a mousse and a blow-dry cream.. This never happened when my hair was longer. Anyway. What are we doing today? Sis [ Anna ] All right. Well today, I'm super excited about this. Yeah [ Anna ] We're doing a super like cool, chill laid-back girl.. This is one of my favorite Instagramers., Oh really, She's great she's. Actually, a legal adviser., Oh hey Yeah.! This is from @ stephweizman, we're doing these signature waves. That she does in pretty much all of her pictures. Okay., Oh okay, I see it. Yeah. She's like a cool laid-back, lady. Yeah. Like very chill.. Her hair is really cool. Yeah. It'S really cool. We'll see how hard those waves actually are.. We all know I'm not a very good judge of that. ( Kayley laughing ), So the products that I used today already do have heat protection in them. So I'm just gon na go straight into styling and I think I'm just gon na split my hair in half instead of going in three sections. Okie-dokie. So when I look at these waves, I see a really defined ridge, but it is also relaxed in other areas. So the way that I want to recreate, that is by using a one-inch curling iron in large sections., Literally just grabbing a big ol' section, and then everything is gon na get crawled away from my face, and I think I'm gon na use my Instagram hair trick And slide the iron out and over the ends.. I have a whole video on that. If you want to see., Let me just run my fingers through it and see how that looks.. Oh all right, it might still be a little tight. So I'm going to add on running my fingers through right after it comes off the curling iron and then I think we should be there. And it does definitely look like. She uses a curling iron with the clip and not a wand for this. But you can get a really similar effect by just wrapping the hair around the wand. If that's what you have. Yeah that looks great to me.: Let's do it on the other, side. (, upbeat, music, ) And now we're gon na let the top down. First we're gon na put a center part in.. Now we're gon na curl, the top section. ♪. Don'T play ♪ ♪, I'm still in love with you, ♪ ♪ Don't play ♪. She has more of like a distinct bend right here. I feel like I just want this to be exactly right., So we're just gon na hit it one more time.. ♪ Hit me baby, one more time, ♪ All right, we're gon na. Let that one cool move on to the other side.. So I think what I might have done wrong with this side is that I was curling up a little bit closer to my root. Like I would usually do, but she really just has one ridge right here by her cheekbone, which basically means that she's curling, that top section at the same height that she's curling the bottom section that we just did.. So I'm gon na make sure that I'm keeping my iron a little bit lower on this side and again making sure that I'm keeping those larger sections., I'm gon na go check in the mirror, make sure I curled the back of my head short hair problems. Am I right All right there we go. Now I might put some texturizing spray in it if I hadn't already put all the volumizing products in. I know, as I wear this. Those are gon na come through a little bit and do some texturizing for me. So I'm just gon na add in some hairspray to hold everything in place.. I'M gon na use some of this Nexxus Comb Through Finishing Mist. It'S like very, very lightweight hairspray. That'S very touchable.! I feel like that's what we need right: now., Okay, sissy time for hair checks. How'd. I do [ Anna ]. I had to put the doggies down.. Oh she's, a cool girl.. Did I do it Yeah it looks really good.. It took less than 10 minutes., Really Yeah. [ Anna ] Okay, so she really doesn't put a lot of effort. In., No (, laughs, ) Okay.. I think she kinda, like knows her curling method and she does the same thing every time. It'S working, it's great. It'S easy., It might be a new fave.. I love it., I like it too. We love an easy hairstyle. [ Anna ]. We love that. I was right All right. She was right And now let's go to the wild, to take some pictures of this hairstyle.. I feel like I really like this hairstyle. It was surprisingly easy. I like the barely there bend, but it's definitely like defined still.. I think it's really quick and realistic for real life. I appreciate that and I feel super cute in it, which is always the goal. ( upbeat music, ), (, camera shutter, snapping, ), (, upbeat music, ) Um Anna Lara. What is this, What am I wearing? What is happening? [ Anna ], Welcome to evil twin Kayley. Oh wait wasn't that my first guess I was just like what is this [ Anna ] You'll be excited for today., Okay, I will Yeah it's a good day., So I am taking inspiration from one of your favorites. Yes., So I know you're gon na like this.. It'S from @ claudiasulewski.. I love her, See Yes. Okay., Okay yeah. I wouldn't call her evil, but she is like alternate-reality Kayley like I would love if, in some other parallel universe, I am Claudia Sulewski. [ Anna ], All right. So this is the look we're going with today. All right.. Oh, I see what you did with this outfit. We've got like the little bustier. We'Ve got the silver necklaces., So it's like a slick, low, bun, All right. Yeah, just slick bun, really chill. No big deal.. I'Ve been seeing this trend a lot lately on Instagram. Awesome., I'm gon na add some snap clips just for fun. [ Anna ] Yeah of course. You're Kayley. Of course, you're going to. For this you're gon na need a comb, an elastic and then my snap clips, which I have to go, find BRB.. Okay, I couldn't find normal snap clips in the color I wanted, so I'm using these extra grip ones from Revlon which are life-changing. If you have a hard to control hair., Just saying ,'cause, they have these extra little combs.. First, things first slick the hair into a low ponytail and then to make the bun I'm just gon na leave the hair looped on the last rotation and leave the ends sprouting of it, because the'90s are back and I'm here for ends these days. So we're gon na leave it there. And snappy clip all right. Um. Let me go just like check and make sure I like how everything turned out.. I feel like Claudia right, now., All right sissy come see. Coming. I know it's only been literally like 30 seconds, but I'm done. Wow Did not even have time for my coffee. Wow stop that's cute. Who can work a low bun? This girl? I can That's really cute. I like the ends: too. [ Anna ] Yeah. It looks super cute. I think you nailed it.. Yes, All right. All right! Well, let's go We're gon na go in front of a mural for this one. All right. ♪, Making my way downtown, walking fast ♪ Got ta pick a different song. If I'm gon na be this girl., Some like indie, music, no one's ever heard of. Well, I've got ta say the outfit is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I really like the hair. I see myself wearing it either messier everyday or to the gem slicked back. I feel like it's cute: either: way. ( upbeat music, ), (, camera shutter, snapping, ), [ Anna ]. Oh my gosh, I'm so excited for today Today feels very on brand already. I'M excited. [ Anna ], I'm stoked. Oh my gosh, You put me in a gorgeous floral dress. I'Ve got my usual makeup. On., It's gon na be a good day. Yeah. I know you're already feeling this.. I am hi. [ Anna ]. So today we are doing a hairstyle from one of my very favorite Instagrammers. Okay.. She is like my hair life, everything queen. It's from @ amberfillerup.. Oh my girl, Ambie Yeah okay.. Are we shocked by this No.? Are we shocked that I didn't use her in the last video [, Both ] Yes. [ Anna ], So I had to scroll quite a ways to get to her short hair. Yeah because she cut it off a while ago. Yeah.. So I think we need to acknowledge the somewhat elephants in the room that I wan na be @ amberfillerup when I grow up. She's younger than me, I wan na be her when I grow up. [ Anna ]. So this is the hairstyle that I picked for you.. Oh, very cute, very cute., Like a braid, a half up do a little fun situation.. Maybe I should pull up my little Barefoot Blonde extensions for my @ amberfillerup hairstyle.. I think you might need to. Yeah.. She has filler-ins, which are fillings, but I call them filler-ins and I feel like that was a missed opportunity on her part. They're meant for a lob and they're just meant to add a little thickness, not any length. That'S what I want right. Now. [ Anna ] Yeah. I think that might be the only hairstyle we're using extension. You're welcome. We heard you. Yeah. I heard you last time., I get it I do but like have you seen Instagram Alrighty? Well then, let's put in some filler-ins. Okay, I trimmed a couple inches off now they match my length.. What I decided to do was trim them, so they match when it's sitting kind of higher up on my head. That way, as my hair grows out, I can position them lower and lower, and that way I can get the most use out of them. And when I put these in, I just do it kind of like a halo. So I do a horseshoe shape around just below my temples and then set these one next to the other, all the way around, so you just get a little bit of extra hair around your head.. Another option is to double it up in the back, especially if you're gon na do some kind of like big half-up half-down moment that could be a fun option as well. And there you go quick little bit of extra fullness. We love. Before we do the half updo, I'm gon na - add in some little beachy waves. I feel like that is an @ amberfillerup. Staple.. I'Ve already done a tutorial on this, so I will link it above and I'm just gon na fly through this really quickly.. I'M feeling a little bit aggressively voluminous right, now.. Normally I would put in some product to kind of define tame all of that.. I got my hair so big., But because we're doing a half up style, I'm gon na do that first and then apply whatever products. I want after. So first, I'm gon na section off this hair up here'cause, that's not in the braid. Okay and then this part is gon na get pulled back. So we're going to secure that and then braid everything, else., (, upbeat, music, ) And now that I've got them just passed, my ear, I'm gon na switch to braiding normally and I'm just gon na clip at the end. While I pull it apart., I feel like in a @ amberfillerup kind of hairstyle the pulling apart. It'S not just for volume, it's also for a little texture., And now I'm gon na secure it at the end with an elastic.. I just think it's easier to hold your place with like a bobby pin or a clip and pull the braid apart and then put the elastic'cause. The elastic grips the end so tight. It can be hard to pull the braid apart while it's on there. So that's why I usually wait'til the end. Okay, now that we have the braid in we're pulling this stuff on top into a half updo and securing it with an elastic.. Okay, honestly, this ponytail is really cute, but I'm gon na do the whole hairstyle and do a bun., I'm just gon na wrap the hair really loosely and just make a shape and pin it as much as I can., Not a whole lot of science. Going into this one I just want it loose and tousled and a little bit cooler.. Okay, sissy. I think that's the hairstyle. I think I'm into it. You can't see, but I'm swishing my dress around a lot.. Oh hello, Amber I love that.. I did it yeah! You did., I feel like this. One was a little bit of a softball because, like @ amberfillerup inspires my existence.. Finally back in my wheelhouse with my flowers and my waves. [ Anna ], This is nice twin, Kayley. Yeah. This is nice twin, Kayley, hello, it me., [ Anna ]. Take all these feelings of happy and feeling like yourself and remember them for tomorrow.. I thought we were done just I did evil twin Kayley, yesterday. [ Anna ] Five days of hairstyles count. Them. Girl, this hairstyle is definitely very me.. I love just throwing the braid in the bun in. Felt like it was super quick and easy will look good on natural hair or curled hair. I mean it's just a good time. I'M into it. ( upbeat music, ), (, camera shutter, snapping, ) ♪. Nobody else ♪ (, upbeat music, ) Um. I look like my 10-year-old self tried to dress me like a high schooler. Or ..., Or what is it? Okay. Well back by popular demand is baddie Kayley., Oh duh Pulled out the name, necklace and the hoop earrings. I should have known. So what baddie hair are we doing [ Anna ] All right so going down the baddie lane we're gon na do a hairstyle from @ amandagonz/ @ justinemarjan., Okay., [, Anna ] @ justinemarjan? Did it on @ amandagonz. So this is the photo of it.. Oh hey, okay, yeah Justine definitely did that. Yeah. (, both laughing ), So we got a party pony, but this time we got some straight hair. It'S flipped. At the end, it's sleek. Yes. Hmm., It's the ultimate like baddie-fluencer hairstyle., [ Anna ] Yeah, with the flip and everything.. However, I think you need some more makeup on., Maybe some contour lashes and ( mumbles ) I'll, be back.. Ah, hey sis is this makeup defficient? Oh yeah., So this hairstyle actually works from the top down., So we're first gon na treat this section. That'S gon na go up into the party pony and then we're gon na. Do everything else. That'S hanging down once that's up.. So the first thing we need is for my hair to be straight and shiny, which eh it's almost there, but we have to get it the rest of the way. Heat, protectant spray and flat iron.. This one is the Amika one that I showed you guys in my FabFitFun unboxing.. If you want to see that linked above., But we're literally just gon na comb and straighten it., Pretend like it's 2004 and get the hair as straight as we can., Even though my hair is naturally straight and even more naturally straight before it was bleached. I straightened my hair every gosh darn day.. I think that might be why I curl my hair all the time now, just trying to overcome those memories.. Should I be sectioning this Probably and for fun. I'M gon na pull out the filler-ins and put them right up here at the crown right next to where the ponytail is gon na sit.. Once I put these in I'm gon na straighten them as well, because obviously they're still waved from last time or alternate option. I'M straightening these off my head, because that is just so much easier. And now, let's put them on., ( upbeat music, ) Love it cute little toupee moment what up Now we grab a comb, an elastic and some pomade.. I'Ve got the Kristin ESS Shine, Enhancing Pomade. It'S here it's ready to go., I'm just gon na go head and open it now. You'Ll see why., So we're gon na make a triangle section from the ears up to the top of the head behind the extensions. If you placed any and then you're gon na use the comb to get that as smooth as possible. And now that it's like 90 % there you're going to add some pomade around your hairline and then use the comb to rake that back again.. This is really gon na smooth things down, so if you need some baby hair or broken hair taming, this is gon na, be your step. But if nothing else, it's gon na make things very, very sleek., And now we secure it with an elastic.. Now, I'm just filling in my hairline to make sure everything looks nice and uniform.. I'Ve talked about this before I just like how this frames my face. When I do it - and this is the color Wow Root Cover powder in light brown., Now we hairspray and now to make this ponytail a little fuller, I'm going to back brush it first and then smooth over the top and then flip the ends., And I think, We'Ll be done with the ponytail finally.. Oh, I forgot. I need to wrap some hair around the base. Whoops, okay, gon na do that. See if there's any like minimally teased pieces under here, ha ha. And wrap it and pin it., And in case you missed the early 2000s. Basically, the way that you get that flip is you just turn the iron up at the end.. If your hair isn't already naturally straight, I guess you could straighten the whole thing before getting started, or you could just go through in sections now and straighten out the bottom pieces.. I actually think that might be it. Let me go look at it in the mirror, but I think I might have it. Okay sissy come check.. Oh my God. You remind me of like the Olsen twins when they were like teenagers.. Oh, I see it. It'S that era.! Oh my gosh.! I love it, though that looks just like it. You nailed it.. I did Yeah Woo.. It looks more you than the last baddie I did to you.. That'S for sure. All right. Let'S go take pictures. [ Anna ]. Let'S do it.! Hmm I feel like this. Hairstyle is probably the one I would be least likely to wear exactly again, though I kind of want to play around with flipping the hair out, and I do love a half-up half-down moment.. I'M also gon na be really glad when I can stop dressing like a baddie in public, because it makes me so uncomfortable. ( upbeat, music, ), (, camera shutter, snapping ), And that has been my week of trying Instagram hairstyles for short/medium hair.. I think Instagram is such a fun place to get inspiration, because it's everybody getting to be creative and post their most exciting moments of creativity, and you can look at that as like''. Oh, that's! Not what like everybody's'' real day-to-day life is ,'' and be like kind of bummed about it or you can be excited about it and be like `` Okay. So when I'm feeling extra ,'' I've seen this cute look and I wan na try it out ,'', and hopefully this video gives you a little bit of an idea of what that can look like, and I had a really fun time doing that'cause. It definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, pushed my own creativity and was a lot of fun for me.. So I hope that you guys enjoyed this video.
